Hi,
First of all to change permission of particular file, you need root access.
After rooting you need an file explorer [many available in Google play, search, download & install]
Then you can access the file that you want to change permission.
Do u have root access?
no i don't have ..
unless you root you wont be able to changed the permissions.
If you have 2.3.4 build .42 then root its easy. If you have.62 root is not possible unless unlockbootloader.
Read the stickies in general and question

Hello, you should look this post of DoomLord: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582 This is ZergRush method, it works on mony phones (of course Xperia Arc/S are included) and grants you root acces. After that now you can change permissions, remove junk apps install a recovery and many other things.

Hey is there a way to soft root the Xperia play? So i would be able to download and run root only apps on my play until i turn the device off and on. I dont need to fully root my play i just want to delete some system apps.
I know this is possible with SuperOneClick but at the moment not possible with the Xperia Play as the Play is not currently supported on SOC

This is what i would suggest to, but leave out pushing the superuser and su to your phone. As i understand it the files you push to the tmp folder gives you temp root in adb shell and therfore you should be able to preform adb shell commands as root user and be able too remove bloat in /system/app (ofcause you'll need to know the commands to issue in adb shell to remove apps, but that shouldn't be to hard to google).
This is just a guess and as i haven't tried it out i can't say it would work, but then you would"mt need to unroot just remove the tmp folder afterwards.

You can use flashtool to reflash the firmware while retaining user data if you don't have a cwm backup
i m new to rooting and dat al stuff . And i have rooted throug zegrush and ive not unlocked the bootloader. Can you please tell me how to or give the link. Will i lose anything.,?
Oh, you did not set the right permissions of the zip file
Flash using flashtool

There are many android 2.3.4 ftf. Just download it
You can retain your downloaded stuff by removing the tick mark on wipe user data
Or flash via SEUS since you have a locked BL
I just did the exact same thing and luckily found this post, i see you said something about changing the permissions how exactly do you do that?

Using root explorer from the market
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer
Mount R/W
Long press the file and select permissions
For bootanimation.zip in system/media
Owner: RW-
Group: R--
Others: R--
If you flash using flashtool, when you select the firmware there's a checkbox top right to keep/delete user data.

Gingerbreak doesn't work any more. The exploit it used was patched.
I unlocked my bootloader then installed a kernel with root built in

Flash the firmware using flashtool, or request some Miro user to share the necessary app, push it to system rw,r,r permission using any root explorer
