Generally the modem that matches your kernel is the best option. BUT that's not always the case. I find that the best thing to do is try all of them until you find the one that works best for your area. I've tried all of them from the EG modems on up to the leaked FC modems. I've had the most luck so far with FC07 and FC18. I'm currently testing out FC22 but haven't had it long enough to know for certain.
No matter what you do always be sure to update your PRL and Profile after flashing a new modem. If you don't nine times out of ten it'll be a terrible experience.
Good luck!
Haven't had as good battery and speed with the new FC's, id stick with EL26 or EL29. But its all location specific, a lot if people really like the new ones

Im running the latest calkulin modem per your advice . Pretty rad so far. We shall see. I really appreciate the help guys. Peace Ps I tried mostly all these roms and calkulin seems to be the go to dude. Really slick fast and rips 3700 or more in quadrant scores. No bugs either. FYI . Thanks again
Driving mode and tap and speak bloat "three in one " widget gone ??
This has probably been asked a lot but could anyone help with possibly with info or a link to the driving mode stock ,three in one widget that comes with epic 4 g touch. It was removed when I blazed "flashed" calkulins 2.9.2 rom. Kinda miss it because Im in the car a lot and I found it super useful . Ps xda crushes all sites !

This here is what I believe you're looking for. You'll need to push it to system/app and set the permissions but then you'll be good to go.
Enjoy!

I appreciate it man thanx. I feel lame asking but how would I do that. I'm using a mac. And it's strange when I use a Mac to download roms and such , once I try and flash in cwm it doesn't work ...but when I use my pc it works ?

Hey guys...im interested in trying out the eg22 mod. Im currently on eco5. Lets say i want to flash the eg22 mod...end up dont liking it...and want to go back to eco5..do u just hook up to odin and flash...or r there specific instructions in between? Im just so use to wipe everything 3 times i dunno wat else to do lol....thanks in advance....
You dont need to wipe anything, just connect to odin and flash what modem you want, if you dont like one flash a different until you find the one that you like best.

Highly appreciate the wipe answer...i shall visit these sites and soon will participate in the poll after i run something different than eco5!!! How is eg22 treating you personally?
EG22 is absolutely amazing ive been on it for some time now and the battery life is amazing and the speeds are faster than any other modem.
Just did a full battery test and ive gotten 44 hours from start to finish with cpu set at 1.2 Ghz and 3g speeds almost twice as fast.

Debugging doesn't matter because you are in downloading mode anyways. and i use voltage control i've seen that it works really well with SFR 1.2 and the Genocide 2.0 kernel

ya each phone will be able to go at a slightly different speed i find my phone is best at 1.2 GHz its really fast and really stable

Are you trying to put the genocide kernel on a EG22 rom?
Hey guys im curious is there anyone who has been able to fully replace EC05 roms with one of the gingerbread roms availalbe? And in doing so keeping the stability, battery performance, and speed of the EC05 roms? I've personally gone from an amazing experience with ACS SFR 1.2 to Ginger Bamboozled and ERA hurricane rom and personally have not seen any benefits with keeping gingerbread. I notice no battery improvements and the phone has slowed down significantly. The only plus i've seen with gingerbread is the cool CRT off animation. Note i've never run the commands to stop processes that update in the background i.e. DRM and SNS, which from what I read make a fairly big difference with getting better battery life on EH17 roms. So at this point I'm thinking of going back to SFR 1.2 or another EC05 rom. Is there someone out there that can give me some useful tips on how to make the Gingerbread roms run smoother for me or am I just wasting my time? Also I used to get random Reboots on Gingerbread but i've noticed that it has stopped, odd. Oh almost forgot I use my keyboard all the time for writing emails for work and not having the skipped letters fix is so annoying. I want to shoot my phone sometimes.
Have you tried Spare Parts and setting all animations to FAST in it? I am on Bonsai B14 EG22 and my phone is about as fast as it was on EC05 ROMs. I do stop all processes when I first boot and have a few frozen with Titanium.

I don't care if that does anything for the actual speed or not...its a hell of a placebo effect. Another thing is you could oc with tegrak
As of right now, I don't see any advantage of using a Gingerbread Rom. I was in the same boat as you. I tried a few of them but due to the random reboots and keyboard skips, I couldn't take it anymore. I'm now using the Epic Revolution Rom and I love it. I won't be going back to Gingerbread till the official release.

Depends on the apps you have
I'm running the ERA OLYMPUS 1.6 EH06 ROM. I hoard apps and that's really bad for performance of the device and battery. I haven't frozen the SNS/Updates but I freeze the DRM every time I install a ROM anyway. I just managed to get all the apps that like running in the background to not do that by messing with the settings and clearing widgets. I can now last at least 5 hours on battery while actually using the phone. My battery life has been about the same on every ROM I've ever used. I would say to try this ROM with Journaling enabled and running Chris' new EH17 Plus kernel. I am also using the EH17 modem. Everything is working pretty well for me now.
No good reason to keep the leaks. However, if you are converted to ext4 and use the v6 supercharge script its as smooth and responsive as sfr 1.2 at 1.4ghz.

I've been dealing with the same dilemma the past week. I've found that there's really no pros to keeping the gb roms. Although I really like the theme on bamboozle as well as my quadrant stats. Speaking of which, can anyone tell me where I can get the SII lockscreen that comes with bamboozle? It's definitely my preferred lock screen. If anyone can help that'd be awesome thanks!
Thanks for good responses
Thanks guys for all the feedback, I think i'm being swayed more towards the EC05 roms until the release of gingerbread source files. I think the biggest thing now that look at it is the keyboard letter skips. I rely on my phones keyboard far to much to write really fast work emails and no matter how I setup my virtual keyboard or auto correction on TouchPal keyboard or Swype, its just not accurate enough and I waste more time trying to fix the auto corrections. Thanks again everyone and I really hope this thread assist others with making a their choices on which Rom to Choose or which version of Rom to choose. Froyo here I come.... now i gotta figure out if I want to go with Era or ACS lol.
In my opinion, no. After trolling all around using GB Leaks I finally came back to Froyo (Bonsai 4.1.3) because of the stability and speed.
I think its best just to wait for something official when it can be polished and tweaked with.
I too have been up and down the development pages, trying out different roms an modems, froyo and GB. Froyo was cool when i was using it, but I like the way GB looks. I actually had more problems with the Froyo roms than with GB roms, but that could be bc im getting better at rooting.
Right now im running RandomROM 2.3.4 on the EG22 modem with generation x theme. I get a couple of framework fc's throughout the day, but it doesnt seem to actually fc anything. I seem to just get the notification. battery life is amazing. I used to have to charge my phone after only 6 hours, even with light use. Now I dont need a charger until the end of the day, even with moderate to heavy use. I even use it as my wifi at home for xbox and whatnot. Touchpal's hardware prediction is pretty cool, although I havent really noticed much key skipping without it. I'm still new at rooting, so I don't do too much with oc and such.
I get about twice the battery life using RandomROMs hawk v4 vs any of the ec05 builds. Haven't experienced any TV's yet and only one random reboot after running the v6 script.

I just rooted my phone today and now no idea what I am doing. I checked out the Cyanogen ROM and would like to get it on my phone, however I do not know where to get it or where to begin with this. I checked out a lot of the forums here to find a answer and google and was unsuccessful. I come to you for assistance in learning this process, in hopes to understand, learn and figure all this out!
My questions are : How do you install Roms? What is Rom Manager for and how do I get it working with my phone CORRECTLY? What else do I need to install and get on my phone to fiddle with Roms or any other cool stuff in the future?
I want to be able to have my phone setup to ultimately do anything that a rooted phone can do. Please help!
Ok...well..if you haven't already, hit the DEV section two doors down. Also one of the best pieces of advice I can give is to search out " qbking77" in there and on youtube. He is the hands down "King" at how to vids for not only this phone but many others. Just add "Epic4g" to any search with his handle and you're on your way!...ENJOY and see you on the darkside!!
ALL HAIL THE QBKING!!
well i figured out how to change the ROM's! i am curious what some good ROM's are. I tried out CM7 and i would rather not use it because of the nature of the no 4g and other things that dont work on it. If anyone knows of any good ones with a cool UI please let me know!
and yes i checked out qbking77 and hes is AMAZING!! his videos helped me figure out how to change the roms!
Syndicate frozen rom 1.2 with genocide 2.0 kernel. Flash the rom then the kernel.
All ROMs are good and all have different features. If you make a specific list of what you want maybe someone can help you. Otherwise go into Development and read the OP on each of the ROMs for what features they have. When you find one you like, then read the entire thread to see what kind of problems you can expect.
If u want clean stable rom go with bonsai 4.0.1 with the aio mod, if you would like it just let ne know on this thread and ill give u a link for it and a link for the specific all in one mod, it is a froyo rom but it is stable and mu favorite rom as I never have issues with it

Cm7 is da bomb diggity!
Runner up is miui!
Both are in alpha and beta states [near perfect but cool enough to be daily drivers]
Run an acs if you're not ready to go off the chains!
I prefered stock just cause it runs hardcored but if you run it make sure you stay as close to stock as possible and just get updated kernels to stay afloat til you're really ready to backup and try others!
Flash On!

SFR 1.2 with Genocide 2.0 is good I used it for awhile until the 10/22 release of CM7 which I'm now using. I don't have 4g in my area so no loss there for me. Everything else I use my device for it works great with so I've not needed to go back to SFR.
would there be any specific reason why the battery seems to drain super fast with SRF 1.2 / Nuberl kernal?
Could be the kernel or some specific setting related to it. I'm not familiar with each kernel. So I'm going to make some guesses and say perhaps O/C overvolting, CPU governor not optimal choice, can't think of anything else from the kernel. If you switched ROMs you are probably going to want to fully charge and then boot into recovery and delete the battery stats or use battery calibrator (by marosige is the one I installed) to do it when the battery reaches 100%.
Hey, I was wondering, I'm currently running AOKP milestone 6, with Darkside's Venom Rom using the UVLE1 radio, which are great! I love everything (almost) about the rom/kernel combo. But I notice that my data AND wifi speeds are horrible. I did a search on xda, and came across topics of speeds dropping a little but, but when I said horrible, I mean like it takes minutes (10, 15) sometimes longer or not at all for me to check/send messages through google voice. Its getting harder to use because of the sluggishness, but I don't want to try another rom because AOKP is amazing. I had originally been on UVLC8 radio, but I thought that was the problem, because I read somewhere else that the speeds depend on a mix and match, depending on your location (I'm in the North Eastern part of the US). Any help on this would be greatly appreciated! If I'm not detailed enough, please let me know.
What exact speeds are you getting?
Throttled maybe?
Did you try flashing again?
Try multiple radios

Hey Rob, thanks for your reply. So I tried to download some speed test apps from the play store...and even the small sized one (abt 76kb) wouldn't download correctly!. I'm pretty sure I'm not throttled because I haven't reached my limit in 4g usage. So is your suggestion now to just try different radios until I find one that works? or should i just wipe data and reflash everything over? Thanks again for your help!

Personally, I would try a different radio. however, if that still doesn't work, it could just simply be a bad flash all together and simply starting over would help out to fully diagnose whats going on
Try the new uvlg3 radio my data is rocking on aokp 7/15 ics after i flashed it .

I wish to have the following:
1. Good Battery
2. Similar to Original Samsung Rom, e.g. with all the S Apps etc.
3. Easy to use.

Try any of these 3 roms, they're the best in my opinion
1-Omega rom v6.0
2-Android Revolution HD v4.1
3-Wanamlite v1.5
And if u want the best battery life flash RedPill v0.5 kernel
What's the point in using a custom ROM anyway? People nowadays are crazy about them but I never seen the point!

No offense but you'll never "see the point" until you try one out for yourself. Custom Roms offer more than you can possibly imagine if you know what you're doing. All it takes to know what you're doing, is to read as much as you possibly can, because everything you'll need to know is located in these forums! There's definitely a reason why people go "crazy" over these custom roms!

I found HyperNote 0.4 with RedPill v.1.0 a very good solution. No matter what other ROM I try, I will be back on that combo pretty fast. IMHO it cuts out all the unnecessary stuff, while keeping the goodies alive (I love quick glance for example). Only downside is that the devs will only support official releases, means we are still waiting for an update to 4.1.2. Also I think their most efforts go now into HyperDroid (which is based on CM10). But then again, why fix something that works pretty perfect already.
The problem with hypernote is that they will reduce dpis further and it'd eventually get too low.
