Any dev or non dev have the nous to make a tablet rom?
Maybe a AOKP rom that is tweaked so runs in tablet mode from first boot?
Really think this would be popular..

Reading is quite useful.
You aren't entitled to an answer, people help for no personal gain.
You have no right to ***** if you don't get an answer in 3 HOURS.
set screen density to 160 and next time use search before you start throwing a pissy fit.
Haha, exactly why people leave Xda, answers like the above.
I know how to Google to change density etc, just thought a tablet based rom would be good. So everything is working correctly from the start.

Exactly.
That is what is wrong with xda.
In the few years I have been using these forums people ask for more and are half as grateful.
Its sad that people aren't bothered to educate themselves and put in the effort to find out something.
I've actually been looking into doing this. I just got my first rom to compile without errors, so it might be a while... I probably won't have this finished in a timely enough manner for the op anyway

This type of conversation is not exclusive to XDA. It happens in most all forum communities including Rootzwiki. As long as people can hide behind a screen name and a keyboard they will become overly narcissistic. The anonymity allows us to be rude, impatient, and condescending without remorse.
If you are not embraced by the community to the degree you feel entitled, then perhaps you suffer from the above. So pause before you blame the community, or their gracious hosts, and consider that honey attracts more flies than vinegar.

Back in the day, and by back in the day I mean 2010, we used to have this thing called "bump"
You'd only be allowed to "bump" once a day to get your thread to the top, and hope someone notices it and responds.
Aaaah the good old days.
Sad thing is, if he went into the dev or themes section I believe he'd find what he's asking for. Not to mention there's one floating around in rootz as well

Ok maybe I was jumping the gun a bit with the quick post but i didn't think it would get answered until i posted again. So I apologise for that.
I know there are tweaks around but from what I've read there seems to be lots of incompatibility problems..
Just wondered if anyone had thought of creating a solely tablet based ROM - with everything working out of the box.

I think its more about people using this phone as their daily driver and I am not sure if tablet mode works for that.
I believe there is an easy flashible MOD for AOKP that does everything you need for tablet mode. It is just one extra flash so not horribly inconvenient.
I considered it for a moment but I asked myself what is the point really? Outside of a cool YouTube app other tablet apps could be more inconvenient due to actual screen size. Is there more to this than customizing for customazation's sake?

It would be cool if tablet mode could somehow be made toggable
Sent from my Verizon 4G LTE Galaxy Nexus.
This is actually pretty easy to do on your own.
1) Download AOKP BETA 28 and gapps.
2) Download AOKP BETA 28 (Tabletaokp.zip) from http://rootzwiki.com/topic/20451-mod-12-roms-tablet-mode/
3) Extract files (only system folder) from Tabletaokp.zip, open AOKP BETA 28 with winrar(or whatever zip program you use) and gapps. Put the files from Tabletaokp.zip into AOKP BETA 28 zip & gapps as listed below.
3a)In AOKP BETA 28 zip Put build.prop in system folder(overwriting), put system/apps/Phone.apk in system/app folder(overwriting).
3b) In gapps zip put /system/app/GoogleServicesFramework.apk & Phonesky.apk in system/app
4) Install new rom, gapps and have tablet mode from the start (this is actually how i do it)
Would you recommend it? Anything better or worse than phone mode? Such as tablet apps being difficult to read (like a news app), or accidentally taping the wrong icon due to the denser grid?

I used my upgrade from my Nexus S 4g and decided to come over the the S2 on Sprint. I intend to play with this phone till my wife upgrade is in August which she will take the S2 in hopes that I will get the S3 by then.
Been reading up on these posts on here and I think I got it but wanted to make sure.
1. I need to Odin to get root with el29?
2. Never flash, wipe, reset data in ICS CWM?
3. Is it me or are there no Kernels like AirKernel for this phone?
4. I plan to go with CNA as I had on my Nexus. Love that rom anything you would like to share about this rom?
Any advice on the questions would be great and to be honest I really only post here and there but I'm always on here. Been here since the release of the Evo 4G.

Welcome to the party and congrats on the new phone.
The only question I can answer is #1, which is yes, to get an easy start just Odin sfhub's one-click EL29 for root, then read, read, read in the development section for all the goodies available.
Happy flashing and remember, if you brick your phone it's all on you.
1. I rooted just fine without Odin.
2. Yes it's also recommended you do that with most roms overall to avoid technical difficulties later on.
3. Idk what airkernel is, but there seems to be a limited choice if kernels for ginger.
4. CNA? Don't think I've seen a ROM called that around here but what do I know? I'm just a newbie...

You just have to have thicker skin over here, people may seem a little harsh at times (me included) but at the core of their comments you typically find the truth you needed. If you read around enough you'll see there are a lot of good people in this community. I'd suggest you start with the thread below to see what I mean.

Most important of all, just follow the #1 rule of thumb for the internet, don't take things personally and you'll be just fine.
Oh, also, don't expect anyone here to a)kiss your butt (well maybe iSaint j/k lol), b)hold your hand or c)pat you on your wee little noggin when you f*ck up because you didn't read and ended up bricking your phone. That is all.

Coming from a Evo then a Nexus S 4G I can't believe the trouble ones has to go through flashing roms that are ICS.
Odin is easy so that is nice but still. Seems like a lot of effort.
This phone is sweet. I just got to wait till I actually have time from work, kids and family so I can sit down and root this think and flash away.
Excited.
I can honestly say if it weren't for Odin and sfhub's one-click goodies I would probably still just be an observer on this forum. But he made it easy and then I learned to flash recovery and in doing so was able to start flashing Calkulin's custom ROMs. Although that's as far as I've gotten for now it's a long way from where I began and I'm excited for what's around the corner.

Once the source is released and official ota's are out im sure all the kinks will be ironed out. Development for ICS is still early for this phone. Using Odin isnt that bad, you can still flash a rom in about five minutes.

It may seem a bit overwhelming at first but it really is incredibly easy. Just make sure your CWM is stock (just flash CM7 or GB Miui), and then you should have no issues flashing ICS.

We won't have too many ROM options, besides AOSP and TouchWiz, until CM10 is officially released. It's out for the international version, but only time will tell how long it takes to reach our version of the device.
If you want to take a giant risk, go ahead and flash ParanoidAndroid for the international version, but it'll probably hard-brick your device.

Hard Brick? If this were Wikipedia I'd tag that with [Citation Needed]
I agree it will probably make it non-functional, but I find it hard to believe it's something that restoring an original sprint partition wouldn't fix.

If anyone really wants this type of ROM, go to TMO GN2 forums and look at DaGR8s ROM. Or join #saurom on freenode. I asked if he could bring it over but he would rather have me maintain it but I know zero when it comes to modifying stock roms, smali, etc lol.

No offense, but I don't understand what you're asking. I say this because Android 4 is the same on phones and tablets. I have ASUS Transformer Infinity (TF700T) and this phone, and both are running Android 4.1. The difference are more device specific about screen size and particular hardware.
The mods I've seen are more about squeezing more functionality out the device, such a WiFi tether and mutli-app. They don't bring a more tablet experience than what the device already is in my use thus far.

Your cruelty knows no bonds. Making me search, LOL. Took me a while to find something that showed it. Most just videos on found on Youtube left in the ROM(s) in phone phone mode. This one showed it best that I was able find first.
But yes, I get it now. The sad part, only a few apps I use really have tablet interfaces. I like a similar interface across devices if possible. Although, it would be nice if K9 had a tablet UI. But I digress....
Haha sorry.

I like the idea of picking some apps to use in Tablet form. NFL Game Pass has a good tablet app; but I believe it's designed for 10" tablets, not the small ones such as Nexus 7. I like Chrome's interface on the tablet over the phone as well.
I have the ASUS Transformer Inifinity. Needless, some apps are interesting with their user interface.
Unfortunately, most apps on Android are still designed for the phone interface. As Android tablet get more popular, we'll see design interface incorporate the larger screens.
At the moment, I'm just happy to have a larger screen so I can see without having to zoom everything.

I am too scared to flash and try...its less scary to post a new thread ask you to try...haha. If a devo could shed some light or a brave soul could "test" it that would be great.

You can flash it. If you want to lose your radio. Unfortunately even if the 7100 rom does not include radio we have significant differences in our hardware that causes the radio not to work. Most likely something in the ril or kernel I believe (I could be wrong about the reasons). We dont have an AOSP kernel for the 7105 or tmo version.
Thank you sir... man, I really want that ROM. Was using XquiziT's ROM but the was having a couple problems with it and now the future for it looks bleak. (What I liked so much was the AOSP parts added in) Going to give Saurom a go now I guess.

Boy i sure hope we get a aosp rom like that. Why is their development so far ahead of us?
The international variant always gets devs quicker than us variants. you gotta realize its available to more people than the us variant. but we will catch up dont worry

I am TRUSTING you!!! Don't let me down.... LOL (Ref: "..but we will catch up..")
we need some devs solely working on what needs to be done for porting from one device to another. the fact that the ROM even functions on our device without modification should be a decent indicator of how close we are.
look in the US SGS3 section, 4 variants all with small differences and porting roms between those 4 is a piece of cake.
if someone could make a stand alone CWM.zip that we flash after a N7100 ROM that gave us back the radio it would be perfect. then we could just run any N7100 rom we wanted, no porting needed.

well as much as i love the note 2 if we don't get any aosp love soon ill probably swap devices with my wife. at least her sg3 has cm10/aokp. again not complaining, i just hope development picks up. i was thinking about getting a nexus 4 to tide me over but i hate lg. if anything i still hope the note 2 see's android 4.2.
I am curious. I have had CM/AOKP for years with my other phones. With this one seems a lot of the features I really love are here. What do you feel is missing from TW that AOKP/CM gives you. I am not a fan of TW colors but overall it is good (and I xan theme colors away). Only thing I really miss from AOKP is the wigets popup from nav bar.
Aosp is lighter and for me runs better.

I would agree on most older phones....this one I have not had any slowdowns. ....that I did not cause (changing files in system causes FCs sometimes lol)
Im not saying options are bad or that I would not flash AOSP but just wondering why people feel they need it.

Personally I really look forward to having a ROM with mass storage support. Since Google removed it from Android, I am no longer able to connect my phone to Linux for easy transfer of files and have to use all kinds of alternatives.
Not sure it can't be done on a TW based ROM, but CM/AOKP ROMs seem to more commonly introduce it like the one mentioned in this thread.

I second the motion for USB mass storage functions. Maybe wi-fi direct or other technology will supersede it, but it would be nice to have the capabilities meantime.

This I can understand I really wish google made ums/mass storage an option. I understand why they went with ums but options are always nice.
Reasons why I think they went UMS
1) ability to keep sdcard mounted while connected to computer
2) ability to mount /sdcard on /data/media making the internal sdcard the same as the internal data memory
3) most people people use windows
4) the option to turn it on/off may confise some people.
The only one I disagree with is number 4. Stupidd people will find a way to be stupid no matter how much you coddle them.

*****Moderators: please move this over to a different Galaxy Nexus ROM dev area should it apply, but please leave a link to it under this Sub-forum.
I have created what is probably the first custom Android ROM that includes the files for Ubuntu internally, alongside the existing Android architecture. While this is not really a polished release, it has the ability to crash the phone, and requires some tweaking by devs and downloaders. However, for Galaxy Nexus owners (toro for now, soon to be other GNex devices also) this ROM (Rev 2) should boot up after removing one internal zip file. Go ahead to https://sites.google...site/andrevroot for the link about the project, and/or the bottom of this post for
Some things to note:
Comment back what you think about this project, and ROM.
Please keep all comments polite and on topic.
Donate, via bitcoin if you like, as it helps support us, and help create better, more advanced ROMs.
Please look through the whole site
Don't try this ROM if you are new to custom ROMs, try Cyanogenmod ROMs first so you know what you are doing.
I take no responsibility for screwing up your device in any way.
This version is heavily based upon CM10, to the point where it should even say the General CM10 stuff under Settings>About Device. Please do not beat me up over this, it is just because I wanted to get a simple pre-release out there.
This is licensed, please read the License agreement at the footer of my site, you are bound to its terms. Its Creative Commons, but still used.
Thank You for your time, have a nice day.
Above all, do not try to update the CM firmware, as you will lose the ubuntu files contained within!!!!!!

Holy cow, dude this was awesome. I mean... me and this thing clicked instantly. As soon as it booted within 5-10 seconds I got through the lockscreen and then just started dozing through all the apps and swiping. It is a bit slow, not in particular though, probably as slow as Miui. This is just a dev preview, imagine the real thing and I didn't lose to much battery life within the span of 20 minutes. I wanted to keep this on my phone just to test but I couldn't. I'm just waiting for the real thing :victory:

Here's the link to his site which has download links to his Revisions 1 and 2. I've downloaded both and haven't had any luck getting them to flash and his website isn't very clear with instructions on how you're supposed to do so.
EDIT: It seems that he updated the link as I was typing my post. The link to revision 2 is no longer there, and the first revision is hosted on a different site. I'm going to download it and flash it and see if I have any luck.
EDIT2: No dice Jim Rice

So you tried out the ROM, how well did it work for you? Did you like it, what do you want to see changed? I am trying right now to put together a hacked SlimBean version, which is much faster and better to use. Did the Ubuntu side work?
