Can't re mount External Micro SD - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

So ... I'm running the AOKP ROM and I went into Settings -> Storage and unmounted the micro SD Card, then I used Titanium Backup to restore and everything worked fine. However, when I went to remount the card it looks like it mounted fine, but when I go into Root Explorer the /mnt/sdcard/extenal_sd/ directory only has a couple folders, and only shows 7ish gigs available, not the 32 gb I have on the card.
It looks like Android changed /mnt/sdcard/external_sd to be part of the internal storage I'm thinking. I've tried shutting down, putting in the card and rebooting, and a couple other things with now luck
What am I doing wrong here?
Edit: Looks like it's accessible via /mnt/emmc now ... weird, I'd almost be ok with this, but now when I plug in the phone and connect usb storage the only drive that shows up is the internal one ... Help please?

They both should show when connecting to a pc. I'm running cm9, and I see both drives.
And FYI, the external sd mount default location will always be /emmc for any aosp rom (cm9, aokp, codename, etc).

Ok, maybe that's the issue then with the mount location, on other ROMs it's been /mnt/sd_card/external_sd
However, I still don't see them in explorer when I connect usb storage, first time that's happened it's odd

This phones whole sdcard setup is weird, Samsung basically forced the 11gb internal to be the main storage when I have (&wanted) my 32gb class 10 sdcard to be used as main storage. My favorite app link2sd now fails to see my 32 gb card because the 11gb internal can't be partitioned to ext3/4 like my external can.

On AOKP, the external SD card is mounted at /mnt/emmc with a symlink from /emmc to the /mnt/emmc directory.

It's all good, I can live with that naming and symlinks, my bigger problem is the external micro sd not showing as a drive in windows when I hook in usb mode, the internal shows, but not that physical external sd

Not sure why it isn't showing both. I just tested with AOKP Build 28 and the updated FC18 kernel and everything shows fine.
Are you able to access your SD card via an adapter? May be an issue with the card itself.

Yep, was able to access with PC via SD adapter. I even formatted the card and flashed AOKP from scraych, even formated via the system storage options on the phone, still a no go. No idea what's going on here, it is available via root explorer just fine, only the PC doesn't see it.

same problem here
same problem here running AOKP Milestone 4 with icy glitch on sgs-i9000.
Could really use some help here.

I'm getting the same problem here with an i9000 on AOKP build 28. Got to this thread by searching, but still looking for a solution.
All the file managers and media apps on my phone find the external SD fine, but still can't mount it on a Mac via USB; only getting the main phone storage.

Move to SD question

Okay so I am kind of confused by how "move to sd" works on the ET. Is it storing it on the 12GB internal sd or to my 32GB external sd? I am coming from EVO, so excuse my ignorance on how it works with devices with internal storage. I was under the impression from what I read that galaxy s 2 moves apps to internal but i'm not sure this is right?
Also, how can you view the .android_secure folder while USB plugged into computer? I know the folder is on my sd card when i look at it in Astro, but the folder is completely missing when trying to view in windows. I tried displaying hidden files in windows but that still won't show it?
Mounting with the ET is different than evo. With evo the sd card would mount as a drive and i could see everything. The ET doesn't mount as a drive, i'm not really sure what the MTP thing is that it does. Sorry if I seem like a noob, i'm really not, just confused about how this all works.
Thanks in advance!

Just tried moving apps to SD without an external cards and it said I didn't have a card installed so it is moving them to the external card.
With a card installed and USB Debugging enabled I can mount it as a second drive and see .android_secure on it. Normally when the card is mounted you can find it at /sdcard/external_sd. With USB Debugging disabled I see the card but .android_secure is not visible. I surmise that the phone is keeping .android_secure mounted so you can continue to use apps that have been moved to SD.

[Q] USB Storage setup

Confused on External SD card, Internal SD card etc etc. I have a 32GB Patriot Class 10 card. I formatted this card in Clockwork recovery on the phone with a 1024MB Partition. Don't think it even asked me about ext 3, or 4 etc. OK. Now, If I use settings, then under wireless and Network settings Usb Utilities, Click on connect the storage to PC. I connect my USB cable then I have the familiar Android and it says USB is connected. OK, now I have a drive I will call Drive Q. This drive has all the TMobile stuff such as QIK , Photo editor, etc. It also has a folder called External_SD as well as another Folder called usbStorage. This drive Q is roughly 12GB. OK...Now, my SD card which is 32GB is seen as drive U on my desktop. This drive has my clockwork folder with my backups and my Music folder.
I guess I am trying to figure out the best use of drives and there intended purposes. The External_SD folder is only 580Kb or so. The usbStorage folder is a zero byte folder. And finally, when I did run a backup using Clockwork recovery, it basically said it was skipping External SD card since folder was empty.
Now that I am confused on all of this, maybe someone here can actually follow my post and make sense of how the storage is working on our phones

[Q] sdcard damaged after using usb mass storage

So I am using the infamous v4 Rom and I have been happy with it. I used the usb mass storage enabler app for the first time. After transferring my fines, I ejected the sd card and disconnected the phone. I then switched the phone back to mtp mode. This was when all the problems started. Now my apps can't find my sdcard but the es file explorer and gallery can see the sdcard fine. When I unmount the sdcard and remount it, I will get the message sd card damaged try reformatting it. I did a full reformat, not the quick one. Still says damaged when I mount it. Doesn't make sense that the file explorer and my computer sees the card fine but some apps says the card is missing.
What did you format the card too? FAT32?
yes, i formatted it as fat32

Mounting and Format Sd Card Not Working

I just maxed my storage on my Tab S so i popped in a 8gb sd card. Do I need to mount it for any reason? Playing movies off of it works fine but for some reason when I go to the option mount sd card and format sd card there both blacked out and I cannot click them. I reformatted the card on my PC and put it back it but I still could not mount the card.
Make sure your formatting it with a fat32 filesystem (not exfat or ntfs).
It should just mount automatically as long as it is the right filesystem format. fat32 works on Windows, Linux, and Mac but every other filesystem pretty much isn't fully supported across the board.

It should mount automatically when you insert it. The mount and format options are probably disabled since it's already mounted. There should be an option to unmount. It's usually recommended to format the card from the phone/tablet, rather than a PC.

exFAT will work on this device too. For an 8GB card, the only real advantage is that you can store files larger than 4GB.

Strange yesterday the format and unmount sd card were blacked out and un clickable. Today i woke up opened up my tablet and both options are functioning normally. I appreciate the replies either way.
A couple other questions....
Do I need to always unmount my card before removing it?
is there an option screen to choose what gets saved to my SD card and what does not? I was looking to maybe save a few apps to it as apposed to my internal storage.

You should unmount first to be safe (just like you should safely remove USB drives in Windows). I can't say I ever really have a need to remove mine though.
Different apps have different options. For example, camera apps often ask where to store the photos. There is no generic option screen.

No, when your internal storage is full, you're done. Android 4.4.2 has severely limited what can be done with the SD card - you can't write to it without using an internal Samsung app - or rooting your tablet. You can't move apps to the SD card anymore...they've really crippled SD cards - maybe because none of their Nexus devices have SD card slots...very frustrating. Samsung could fix this quite easily but don't appear to be doing anything about it. If they would sell the 32 GB version of the tablet, I'd have that one without worrying when I run out of space...which will be very soon at this pace. Not impressed...

You can easily move apps from your device to the sd card through the application manager in settings.

LG G3 D851 external SD Card problems

I have a freshly formatted 32 gb micro SD card (fat32) that I put in my Freshly rooted phone using Bliss Pop Rom. When I boot up my phone, go to storage and mount the micro SD, it automatically says that it now has 15bgb on it. Using ES file explorer I examine the contents of the card and there is nothing on it but yet it reads as 15gb left. What's worse is that when I try to copy or move a file to it, a message saying not enough space please free up space to proceed. I Googled the crap out of this issue. No luck. Please help. I use a lot of storage and the SD card is important to me.
Try on stock rom. If it works then stay on stock. Can't stress this enough. CM is to play around with but not as a daily driver. CM is garbage

Just to follow up. . I formatted the card on a PC using a an SD card adapter. After that I had the problem. I researched it and apparently that can mess up, corrupt micro SD cards. So I popped the same micro SD card in my Galaxy s5 and formatted it and the tried it in my LG G3 and it mounted and now works great.
Your microSD card isn't formatted properly

SD cards and microSD cards should not be formatted by the Windows, Apple, or other default program. If you're running Windows, download and install SDFormatter. SD cards have special hidden files that are deleted by the Windows regular formatter. SDFormatter handles the removable media properly.
If you are going to use the SD or mSD card in a particular device, you should >always< format the card in that device before using it.
Yes, what the previous poster said... I wish you could have asked before you did it. Windows is bad at formatting for anything other than NTFS and so is Mac. If you have to format at all, use TWRP. But me personally I recommend to never ever format. I have always managed to turn them into RAW due to multiple formatting because like ivanabq said, Windows just deleted those files. These files are used by Android to read where everything is and if they are gone, it doesn't know how to read the card anymore. Good luck. Hope you get the space back.
Also could you tell us the brand of your microSD? Sometimes the knockoff brands will advertise more space and once you format it, it reveals that it is far less. You might be able to get a full refund knockoff or not.
