I have my phone rooted and tried to install the stock ICS though Odin3, about 5 minutes into the installation odin said that it had "Failed", now i can no longer go into the recovery. I can go into Downloading Mode but the phone is no longer being detected by windows, it does not even make a sound when i plug into the usb, i have already tried it on another pc and same thing.
What can i do about this? I am really shaken up since i just got this phone with a new 2 year contract from sprint. i have always rooted all of my phones before and have never gotten into such a serious problem.

If you got this phone through Sprint, there is ZERO chance it is a GT-I9100. The I9100 is a GSM phone. Sprint is NOT a GSM network.
Sprint markets and sells their own version of the Galaxy S2, called the Epic 4g Touch. That phone has a model number of SPH-D710, and it has a forum of its own. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1281)
If you already flashed something for the i9100, it may have already changed the boot screen and about phone screen. Check the label under the battery for the model number.
Yes I imagined that I may have flashed with a different ROM (I didn't know there were different versions of the same phone). Is there anything I can do about this?
Have you checked the model number as suggested ? If so, what is it ?
Edit to add - If you do have an Epic 4G Touch, you need to post here.
The Model Number is: SPH-D710
I am not sure if there is even a way to at least get it back to stock since i can't even get it to be detected anymore, I am still under the 14 day warranty but i am sure that if i take it to the sprint store they will know that it was my fault.
Wrong forum. Post in the Epic 4G touch Q&A forum I linked you to.
Edit to add - Can you do anything to fix the phone ? Unfortunately I doubt it. If you can't get into download mode, that means the NAND is messed up & the phone needs to be JTAG'd. Either by a 3rd party repairer (probably cheaper option) or your carrier's authorised repairer/Samsung (probably more expensive option).

Umm he is posting in the correct forum. The XDA link you provided (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=934) goes to the OG Epic forum.
OP can you get the phone into download mode? (power + vol down) If you can you might still be able to flash sfhub's 1 click EL29 and restore your phone to working order.

Does anyone know if Sprint does this kind of repair In-Store? Problem is that if i send it to MobileTechVideos i will be without a phone for several days including the weekend.

Yeah, but he was intending it to be for the touch, based on the actual text of his post. Looks like an honest mistake. MistahBungle is usually very good at giving out info.
I feel bad for this guy, poor usb is disabled from international galaxy rom. Before you touch your phone, make sure you know what your doing first man, learn your device and everything before attempting something new especially with the GS2 since they're's a few versions of this phone.

You do realize that a "few" isn't a specified amount, right? if I said a couple that would be two. 10, 15, 20 different versions is not "a lot" or "a ton" other wise the Marines would change the slogan from "The (few), the proud, the Marines" to "The masses, the proud, the Marines" learn your english. A few means small amount, which is misconceived by different people, and thrown out of context due to the fact that everyone has an OPINION! on small amount. Would you like to attempt to belittle me more? Or shall I embarrass you again? Now go back to your own forum, and allow us to converse with others who have an IQ level above 12.

Fixed with Odin. Simple. Thanks guys.
Did you try charging your phone while in download mode? If so, charge with the phone off (Should see big battery icon) Another option is to go to a sprint store and see if they have used epic batteries they are willing to give away. I've read in xda that some sprint stores give them away. Also, maybe try using a different charger
Sent from my Epic Galaxy S2
Just go into a service and repair sprint store if you have one around you...they could charge the battery directly (we have a fancy machine for that), or they could flash it back to stock for you, and probably end up using a spare battery they have on hand....seriously, rooting doesn't void your warranty with us. And even if you don't have TEP, software updates are free. And most nice techs will do any software related things for free.

Sounds like advanced brickness.
Never tell sprint you rooted, just play dumb. I'd call sprint customer service and ask for a replacement. Did you get TEP? If you don't, get it. Maybe they can do a warranty replacement. Tell them you took it to the store and the guy you spoke to was rude and said he can't help you. A replacement phone sounds like your only option right now.

Normally I wouldn't answer, because this question should be posted in the Q&A board, not here, but....
You hardbricked. WHen you try to turn on the device, you just get a solid blue LED, right? That's a hardbrick. Most likely because you did not follow the instructions in the OP telling you DO NOT FLASH ROM/KERNEL FROM ANY ICS RECOVERY. Only flash from EL26 StockCWM
If you have device insurance you can get Sprint to replace it, so long as you don't tell them HOW you killed it If you DON'T pay for insurance, it'll cost $35 to replace.
Moral of the story? READ THE OP. TWICE.
well my bad thanx no way to get it to turn on

Most of this is true. However, Sprint doesn't care HOW the phone gets bricked. I work for a Tech Store in Buffalo. If any tech/rep tells you that they won't replace a rooted/attempted root phone, call them a liar. Tell them to check Sprint's M&P's (methods and procedures).
That being said, rooting STILL voids your warranty, but Sprint is supposed to work on them. Chances are we just flash stock and work on it from there.

I manage some repair shops. Last one I saw, last Wednesday, I couldn't get it going. I only had about an hour to mess with it, but I couldn't get anything to work. I wouldn't say I had completely given up, but given my resources at the store, it wasn't happening. Neither of the 2 computers we use in the tech room would recognize the device in Odin mode (while it read other Touches in Odin mode just fine). It would recognize the device if you booted regular and let it sit on the Galaxy S screen, but flashing wouldn't work and it would never advance past that screen. We just ordered a replacement for the guy. He had flashed a ROM from an ICS kernel.
Only problems I've had on mine is losing signal and the phone going into Airplane mode on rare occasions. Power button menu will actually say it's in airplane mode, too. Turning it off usually fixes things. My phone did have LOS problem initially, but that went away once Samsung updated the modem awhile back. So, it does seem that I end up in low signal situations now and again. Currently running the FC05 modem.

Oh if its hard bricked, we don't lol. I guess my point was more that if you bring a rooted phone into a sprint store, Mr. Hesse says we have to work on it or replace it if there's no physical or liquid damage

Because technically you voided your warranty by flashing software to your phone... It says that everywhere there is a big difference between rooted and custom firmware.... That would be why most everyone has a USB jig to reset the flash count in download mode ....

Glad to hear you're getting a replacement. I'd been think about this microcode thing, ever since you posted about it in the other thread.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microcode
I have a feeling the tech was using the word "microcode" as a synonym for the phone's firmware, taking the stance that the only way for the firmware to get wiped was if you manually flashed your phone. They're replacing your phone because 1) they really can't prove you rooted and flashed it, and the microcode thing was bull**** and 2) at the end of the day, they have to replace your phone anyways under warranty if you didn't drop it in the toilet.
If Sprint techs had some other way to identify that a phone had been manually flashed, other than the known methods, I'm quite sure the good folks at XDA would already know about it.

Don't feel too bad. I did something similar the other day and experienced a brick myself. I now have a new E4GT, free of charge. I made an elementary mistake, but I knew the risks.
I do not believe the new AOKP posted has a safe updater binary (since they did not say so) which makes it a bad deal to flash in ICS recovery still even a safe one.
Hate to hear this. But seriously OP. Thanks for actually owning up to it. When I bricked mine I did just like you. Sbrissen got me on Gtalk and apologized for bricking my device. I told him that I had not been aware that he had come to my house and flashed my phone for me. He said he hadn't and so I said then how is it your fault. I've seen so many times where someone bricks their phone and blames the dev. So props for being a stand up guy. Also. It is amazing what you can get with sprint reps when you just shoot straight with em isn't it. Glad you got it worked out.
Yea same here bricked mine and was titally my fault did it the same day I got the device and have no insurance really liked this device from the little I got to use it maybe one day I can afford another and nit be so stupid next time but least I know I'm not alone

@ruffneckZeVo,
First off no need to post the same thing in 3 threads. You'll get a reply.
Even though you didn't have insurance did you try taking it in to get it to Sprint for replacement? Samsung should also cover it but Sprint will probably be the easier solution if possible.
As for modified .PIT files we don't have one for the E4GT - it was quickly recommended not for long term use, so replacement has been the recommended solution. I don't believe anyone has been outright denied one yet - but I could be wrong.
Anybody without insurance that bricks there phone (b.l.o.d.) just go to an a.s.c. location (authorized service center) and tell them your phone won't turn on and you don't know why....you pay $35 and they order you a replacement that will be delivered next business day unless its back ordered. Then you have the option of adding T.E.P. going forward. They will also give you the option of a white or black device. (Unless the tech is a d.bag)

Make sure you odin to a stock samsung rom(it will fail at data.img, so just unplug it there. This most hints that youre on a non stock rom such as the warning icon.) and then use a usb jig(~$20) This gets rid of all binary flashes in download mode.
That's if you can turn the phone on. Some can and some can't

I've had my SG2 E4GT since the middle of april. Rooted it about 3 days after having bought it. And have been using Blue Kuban's Rom ever since.
Sadly, for some dumb reason, I decided to try out the new AOKP build -.-
Ironically I think I bricked it trying to flash from Blue Kuban back into a Gingerbread EL29 build...... But it had Team Rogue's CWM 5.1.0 or 5.0.1 one of them -.-
Either way, after flashing AOKP went to reboot and black screen, only blue blinking LCD light of doom.
I've ordered a USB Jig so I can try to use that to reboot into recovery... but I'm prolly messed eh?
Should probably try going to the sprint store where I got it? I do have T.E.P.

After installing FoxHound ROM on Galaxy S3 i747, and it is absolutely dead now. Not even powers up. Please help. Cannot get to recovery or download either. Just black screen, no signs of life whatsoever.
thanks

That's what I thought. Sounds like a hard brick if you can't get to recovery or download mode. Search out mobiletechvideos they offer j-tag services and I have seen them recommended on here often.
The OP made a mistake and now needs help to fix it.

I heard you can pull battery and then attempt to get into download mode from there from a thread long ago.

Few days ago I just started installing ROMs for the first time on my rooted AT&T S3. Starting with CM10, then JellyBam, and so forth testing/trying out one at a time. I was clearing dalvik and wiping cache before and after installing each ROM. Each ROM worked fine until I finally reached the fourth or fifth ROM called Foxhound and that's when my phone when to crap. I went through the install and after it rebooted my screen went blank and never came back on. Unable to get into CWM or Download Mode, I did battery pull and also plugged via USB into my PC it still won't boot. I read that the USB jig works on the Galaxy S3, already ordered and waiting for it to come in. If that doesn't work then I'm gonna have to send it in for JTAG repair. I already read off another site that someone encountered the same issue and the USB jig didn't work (this is after I already ordered it) so I'm crossing my fingers.
And this is all because of Samsung Allshare Play isn't compatible with CM10 because it works off touchwiz. So I was looking for a touchwiz based ROM and heard about Foxhound. Once I get my phone back up I'm going to try Jedi Invasion ROM as I heard some good reviews.

Foxhound is for the i9300 as stated above so JTAG is probably your only option! In the future double check to make sure the ROM you are flashing is for your device!

Lmao I think I might understand. Sometimes even though the screen is black you can still do the button combo for download mode and it'll actually go into it even though you can't see that it went into download mode. Then plug in usb and hopefully Odin will recognize that you're in download mode and you'll be able to flash stock rom lol

Correct me if I'm wrong, after the combo press to get into download mode, don't you have to press either Vol Up or Vol Dn to continue into download mode? If so which one?

*Update*
I received the USB Jig and it did not work. Will be sending it in for JTAG repair in a few days. I have also been thinking about taking the phone back to the AT&T store and give them a bs story about it just stop working all of a sudden and get it replaced since I'm still under the 1yr warranty. But then again I hate refurbished replacements so I'll might as well send it in for repair.............???

Search around on here for warranty replacements. I've read a few threads where people have hard bricked and returned to AT&T for warranty replacements. One thing to keep in mind tho, if they were to look into and see that it was because you were modifying your device, after a few weeks you would have a fat 600$ charge on your bill.. I'm not saying its out of the question. Just read a lot and see what other peoples results were first!

Yeah, not to make the OP feel bad ( I feel your pain, really) but this should be a warning to all new flashers (myself included).
The International uses a quad core processor, and the AT&T uses a dual core. Not even close to being the same hardware and flashing the wrong rom is an invitation for disaster. This is not the first instance of this I have read either.
I know there is a tendency to say peeps need to watch what they're doing, but a big warning label would be nice, since the S3 comes in 2 hardware flavors.
I hope you get this worked out with a jig. I have read you can rig one up yourself if you're handy, but I have not seen the instructions to do so.
If you can get back in, I can personally verify that this rom flashes back to stock unrooted. Be sure to clear your cache too.

a big warning label (bigger than what they already post) is not necessary, nor is it the devs responsibility to baby-proof everything. if you find yourself hunting around the internet on 12 different sites, looking for rooting guides and roms for the S3, you're wrong. stick to one place, like xda. know your model number, make sure you're in the right forum, read over the kernel/rom page to ensure you're flashing the files meant for your device.
a "big warning label" would only be encouraging the large amount of spoon-feeding that so many (noobs and lazy peeps) on this forum already expect and somebody would still flash the wrong file like an idiot.
cheers

I see you joined back in November. How'd you get so wise so fast?
No, I agree that it not the devs responsibility to make sure no one makes a mistake, still, for a phone that comes with 2 different mainboards, it might be a courtesy, just in case the user has misplaced one of the half dozen or so tabs he/she has open in their browser after power surfing for an hour. The OP made a mistake. It happens. Calling him (or me) an idiot or lazy, is neither helpful, or polite.
cheers right back atcha!
Note: Please put in correct thread if i posted in wrong one.
I think i'm screwed, but if there is anyplace someone might be able to pull a rabbit out of the hat would be here...
I was attemping to "help" someone today and it didnt go good, hopefully someone will be able to do something because i think i killed this person's phone.
They had 2.36 not rooted or anything. I tried to update to get phone to IC 4.04 but it kept saying no firmware. So after several attempts i said i will just fix it up like mine. (I'm using 4.12) but first i had to get the phone into recovery and rooted.
I went and put the phone in download phone, started odin 3 1.85 and got the comport and flashed the following PIT file, which is what i think i used on my phone 2 years ago to root it. u1_02_20110310_emmc_ext4.pit In options i left the defaults. Repartition, Auto Reboot, and F Reset time all checked. No other settings in Odin. I went and did the load and rebooted. Upon rebooting there is no display, no nothing.
Pulled Battery 100 times, power/volupdown reset, but no luck.. The phone doesnt do anything at all. When i insert the usb cable i hear it beep showing it sees the cable, but no matter what, there is no display.
HELP! -- Here i try to help someone and now i cost them there phone. I already said there is a 999.99% chance it's dead for good.
Usually when you mess up, the phone boots and displays "something" but this time without a display this doesnt appear to be good
I think the problem was with "repartition" checked in Odin. Usually I leave that unchecked. You can save th device though. You'll have to jtag it back to life. Do a Google search for J tag t mobile samsung galaxy s2 and either get the tag yourself, if you have the expertise, or send it away for a small sum and someone will fix it for you
Here's a link to a service that I heard was reputable. there's others that are cheaper. Good luck, hope I helped =)

Is this the only way? I guess 50 isnt too bad. Was the problem cause the repartition was selected?

Unfortunately yes, the T989 should not be reparationed with Odin. That pit file is for the international version (I9100). That is not good bro. Hopefully someone could chime in with something?

I was trying to help someone out and said 'this is pretty easy, let me just gather the files.."
I never really liked the odin process, always made me nervous a bit. once it's in recovery, it's simple but this initial first step... oh well if i dont hear anything else, i will contact those people and send it.
Thanks.
Should of been a PDA file not a pit file and shouldn't of checked repartition.

Fyi for stock non rooted updates for samsung phones always check samsung kies, especially if your not planning on custom roms

with the SGS2 Toolkit, isntalling a custom recovery and gaining root is easy as pie. It pretty much does everything for you. Hope you can fix your buddy's phone.
You might also try and order the usb jig from eBay (don't have the link, sorry) for a few bucks. It will force download mode and you can odin flash it with the stock ICS/GB firmware. It should work I assume (please somebody correct me if I'm wrong) and you will spare the $50.

But it cant force download mode on a phone without any display i dont think. That's only for a pseudo bricked phone that has the samsung logo etc.. We are just going to send it for the 50.00, im not paying out of my pocket, our company will pay though.

The funny thing about this is i tried this first but i was getting error 404 (the page doesnt exist) for some reason when tried to download the missing components (not sure what because i already had ADB and all the samsung drivers on the PC. but when it didnt work, i just went and tried to do it quickly while on the phone and not really paying attention, which doesnt work like that... laugh... I've flashed rom's as i was driving home from work twice (another dangerous stunt, for a completely different reason)...
yeah, maybe the site was down for a bit. I just know I've used it a couple of times before and it made my life really easy, lol. and yeah, I've flashed roms driving home from work also! definitely not a great idea lol

I did that this morning!
Repartition, killed the phone. well it deleted your "boot information". Jtag works from the the repair guys mentioned earlier in the post but i should mention that 50 dollars does get the job done, however, it takes about a week. give it a shot. They brought my phone back to life after i accidentally Repartitioned it through ODIN. Good Luck.

Dont waste your time buying the JIG if your phone is hard bricked like in this case. It will not work. Trust me. I bricked my phone the exact same way the OP did and purchased a USB JIG in hopes of getting into download mode, but that does not work.
