Hey,
I'm hoping to get some feedback from the Nexus (i9250) users here that either own or have previously owned a S2 (i9100).
I'm considering letting my S2 (running CM9) go for a Nexus and I only really have one concern: Battery Life.
I'm interested in 2 different scenarios, if anyone has a view on it:
1) Stock: Nexus 1750mah vs S2 1650mah
2) Extended: Nexus 2000mah vs S2 2000mah
Technically I'm more concerned with the Extended scenario considering that is what I'm running on my S2 in order to get through the day without any worries.
Thanks in advance for any feedback

Galaxy Nexus has better standby (means if you keep display disabled and have only things like Bluetooth, Data sync and Wi-Fi running it will last longer than the sgs2) but the Galaxy S 2 have better display-on-time (because of the smaller screen of course). I guess the display-on-time of the galaxy nexus is around 4 hours and the one from the sgs2 is 6 hours.

@blockbusta: Thanks for that bit of information. I will monitor my screen-time usage over the next couple of days to see if my usage would allow for the upgrade to a Nexus.
I used to have an S2 with a 2000mAh battery, now I've got a Nexus with a 2000mah. The Nexus is definitely worse for screen on time, but is a lot better for standby which makes a huge difference. The Android OS doesn't savage the battery like it does with the S2, and you can keep wifi on and the drain is minimal.
With the extended battery and Franco kernel, I can usually squeeze at least 5 hours out of it, with decent standby time.
To put it simply, I was disappointed at first doing the same trade you did, but have grown to get used to it and learnt how to squeeze good life out of it.
Hope that helps.

@Remoteconcern: Thanks for the info, it definitely does help. As long as I can manage to get 17 to 20 hours out of the 2000mah battery, it would be sufficient for me (but that all depends on usage, and in this case very much on screen-time it seems).

Here's a screenie from my battery screen, I know the battery is a common problem, but when I see shots from others battery screen their screen and OS percentages seem much lower. My screens set at about 20-30%. Just wondering if I'm doing something wrong, or any suggested apps/roms you have. Rooted CDMA.

Te longer you have the screen ON and are using the device then the more power it uses over a period of time
Tap on the screen % to see your screen on time. This device currently sucks a lot of power through the high pixel display. You can switch to manually adjusting seen brightness to save some battery.

Looks fine to me. My android os is usually around 15% or so depending on how much I use the phone and I get great battery life.

@rbiter I am curious how long has your Galaxy Nexus been running before it turns off? I have gotten about 8.5-9 hours the one time i ran mine all the way down. That is with auto brightness on and lots of browsing and no games and some calls.
Frankly I have been disappointed with the battery performance so far. I love the phone of course, but just wished they would come out with replacement stock batteries so I can go as long
as i need, without having to swap out the backs etc.

You could always just use the extended battery w/ the extended battery back cover. That cover works also fits pretty well with the stock battery.
So I have the Incredible 2 and I get pretty damn good battery life. I am 90% sure I'm getting a Nexus in May, and I would like to know how good the battery life is. From what I've read AOKP with franco kernel and 4.0.4 radios gives good battery life. Can some of you guys post some screenies so I know what I'm getting into? Thanks.
P.S. I know there's a GSM battery life thread, which doesn't help me.
Ill try to help
Hey Friend!
Not able to post pics (new here) but I can tell you with normal use (occasional texting, website browsing, fb, email, and llama) and the normal battery I last from 7am to 6ish pm.
With the extended battery (same use, if not more) I can go from 7am to 11pm.
I've played with app background data restriction (to keep my gb cap) and after using it I found you can squeeze 2-4 more hours out of it if done correctly
Hope that helps!
Kev
There are enormous amounts of posts saying the lte nexus gets substantially worse battery life, about 2-2.5 hours of screen on time for the Verizon, and 4 hours screen time for the GSM version. But I don't own the lte just what's been posted.
SoooooooOoOoOOoooo many threads on this. People listing their usage and screenshots for dozens of pages.
Yeah there are so many threads about this we should have a "battery life" sub-forum lol. But to answer your question it sucks, around 2 hours screen on time.
This was today...
Sometimes it's better, but this is about average.

That's what I get on my Inc2 lol.

What Rom and kernel?

Coming from the original DInc, even undervolted with IncrediKernel, I find my GNex gets a bit better battery life and actually gets better signal (here in Boston anyway).
I recently purchased a seidio 3800mah extended battery. Currently I'm only on the first few cycles and I found an app that is supposed to read the battery may but it is reporting it the same as stock. Do I need to calibrate the battery or do anything to get the phone to fully take use of the extra power currently the battery life feels about the same as stock. Thanks in advance for any advice you might have to offer.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Battery calibration doesn't do anything. Well documented.
I also have this same battery and use Battery Monitor Widget Pro. While the app allows me to set up a custom battery, with a different capacity, the app has never been able to show a "estimated capacity" larger than 2048mAh. Rather disappointing considering that on my EVO 4G, while it never read the 3500mAh that it was supposed to be, it would reflect something closer. I think it was usually around 3300mAh. I never even bothered with the stock battery on this phone, and I have been in horrible reception areas whilst roaming the entire time I have had the phone. Should be going home in a couple weeks, if I can get the same 2 1/2 days out of it there then I won't worry any more.
Okay. So if there is no need for calibration that means I shouldn't need to do anything after the installation of the larger battery correct?

So, if I understand you own the battery that I do? If so I'm going to take a screen shot of its life when its near empty, I would like to compare them if possible.

This is the one I have:
BACY38SSGNLN-BK Seidio Innocell 3800 Extended Life Battery with NFC for Samsung Galaxy Nexus
Not sure what it is you want to compare? I will not be in a decent signal area until after the 18th. Once I get home, I can run a full charge/discharge cycle on it a take screenshots, until then i probably won't be of much help. I'm roaming 100% of the time with an average time without signal of 45% right now so I don't get good life out of it.

I'm new to the Verizon Galaxy Nexus (Toro), I just switched from a Thunderbolt.
So here's the issue: I am seeing much quicker battery drain than I would expect when running Carbon 1.1 (Android 4.2.2) or Carbon 1.0 (4.2.1). I'm going to try franco kernel today. Here are some screens showing stats. I replaced the stock battery (person who sold it said it wasn't holding charge) with Anker battery. I also disabled NFC wondering if maybe this battery doesn't support it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, maybe I missed something with installing the rom with this phone, as I said before, I am new to the Nexus.
You might can squeeze a little more, but </= 2 hours screen on time is generally what you can expect.
Seems pretty normal to me. With almost an hour of onscreen time 53% after almost 7 hours is pretty good.
Alright, thanks for the input. Sort of not what I expected, as this isn't much better battery life than my TB. Would anyone expect an improvement using just 3G? I don't typically use data on my phone anyone, as at home and at work I have wifi

Not a substantial one, no, but minimal improvement maybe.
EDIT: Unless the majority of your battery drain is coming from data usage.. Torrenting and such..
I somehow noticed a much better battery life in 4.2.2 than 4.2.1
I am running ParanoidAndroid 15th Feb release and AK 691 Pirates on my maguro.
I have disabled sync and only sync mails 2-3 times a day and complete sync once.
And screen on time between 2.5 to 3hrs is normal for the GNex.
Please my phone litterally died in 3 hours from full charge with 1hour screen on time
Running FINAL SOurcery and Faux 29u kernel underclocked at 1000 mhz with intelli demand
First things first, don't ask "best" type questions on xda. Everybody has different experiences.:good:
That being said, I am personally always running the latest AOSPA (Paranoid Android) and latest AK kernel. Great ROM, and absolutely perfect kernel. I usually get around 3 hours on screen time with that combo.
Of course, you have to remember that there are many many factors that impact battery life. For example, if you have data turned on (either 3g or 4g), gps on, or brightness high, your battery will suffer. Search the forums for various ways to improve battery life.
I always have the best results running stock for battery life.

^^^This. If you are having that crappy of battery life, its most likely the battery itself. No ROM or kernel is going to help you.
Mine too and i have baked +Franco.

Buy extended, cost me 5$ with case! XD
This is heavy use (3G only, no WiFi) also I'm with wind so having a crappy network signal kills it even more, yours will most likely look better.
Running latest CM 10.1 nightly and Franco kernel r378
