[Q] Arc S problem after flash ROM - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have flashed the arconium 8.0 ROM as in thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1325640, and have problems below (not sure related or not)
1. After turning the phone off, it always go back to the ex-factory status (the 7 steps starting with asking the language to be used)
2. The internal storage is shown as 0.00B right after start up (no app open, or installed except those coming with the rom) but in "Running", it shows i have 228 MB
3. Cannot download apps, error stating insufficient space on phone

- Failed to find "userdata" partition to mount "/data" at "advanced" => "Wipe Dalvik Cache"
Please kindly help!!

You must also flash the LT18i patch included in the post.
The thing is, your phone's internal memory partition is different from Xperia Arc and the firmware you flashed is for Xperia Arc not Xperia Arc S.
In order to make it work on Arc S,you must flash the patch included on the post.
Sent from my LT18i using XDA

Thanks. I did install the LT18i patch, after the main ROM.
(by using the CWM "install zip from sdcard, right?)

yes, that is how you install the patch.
But try installing the patch before installing the rom.
first istall patch then install the rom.
Give it a try.

Dear KingWickedd and others,
What do you think, this is a Kernel issue, Rom issue or phone hardware issue?
Thanks a lot

As far as i know, its the rom issue.
It happened with me too. After trying several things, i flashed .283 firmware on my device via flashtool and my phone was back on track.I thought your issue might be different from mine so I suggested the above mentioned things.
If you want, you can try flashing .283 firmware on your phone.I cannot guarantee a positive outcome but the fact is, it worked for me.
Or you can try PC companion's repair option as weel.
All the best

Would you please tell me where to find the .283 firmware you mentioned.... and which kernal it shall go with.
And the PCC... it works with custom kernal / rom as well?
Thanks

I cannot find .283 firmware file on xda as they were uploaded on multiupload.com.
That site is down and we cannot download things from that site.
So i found another way out.Flash your phone using the WotanServer. The flashing process is a bit different when compared to flashtool flashing style.
Here is the link and it has the tutorials as well.
And since your bootloader is unlocked, you must not use PC companion or any other Sony Update Services as it might brick your phone. So use the wotanserver and flash your phone. All the best again
The Link : http://www.wotanserver.com/en/sony-ericsson/se/xperia-arc-s-lt18/unlock-tool/debranding-flash
Edit: when you flash stock firmware,it automatically flashes stock kernel as its included in the firmware.

The firmware which you flash (ftf file) must contain userdata.sin file.
You can open the ftf file using 7zip software.
Or you can flash the Ginger.X rom..I flashed this rom on my Arc and got the same problem as you have because the rom is meant only for xperia arc s not for xperia arc.Since your phone is Arc s,it might reset you partitions.
Here is the rom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1516816&highlight=ginger+x

No luck, Ginger X Rom installed and same problem still there. Finally connected to Wotanclient, but always find "CRC fails" error whichever firmware/country I chose. Still trying though.
BTW, do you know anyway to flash .ftf file without flashtool?
Thanks as usual.

Dear KingWickedd, just to let you know that I solved the problem by flashing the stock ftf file using my friend's notebook, so relieved ^^

[Q] Bricked Samsung Galaxy W (GT-i8150)

I soft-bricked my galaxy and there's no way to fix it, help! Okay, this is a what happened, I installed a custom ROM which worked out perfectly well until one day all applications started force closing for apparently no reason so I reboot and got stuck in a boot loop. I can only access download mode, recovery is out of the question. I tried to flash back to stock with Odin and it "passed" but the screen was just blank. So, I removed the USB cable hoping it will work and it got stuck in another boot loop. I tried everything that I could have think of but nothing works. It seems that I'm not the only one and is common for Galaxy W devices. Please help!
Also, in the worst case how do I send it back to Samsung? I mean, I know how to but will they fix it?
Location ?

dont worry , you can just flash it again. A new stock ROM would do. Its no problem.

did you full wipe before flashing stock rom?
what stock gaming rom, it is full recovery?
you may can try:
- flashing again cwm using odin,
- if succesfull, boot to cwm, format data and cache, except system
- try reboot normally.
- if failed, format everything, except your sdcard,
- flashing stock rom using odin, (better use stock rom provided for your country), use original stock rom, not modified rom ! with size more than 350mb, its contain recovery, baseand and everything you need. of course your cwm will be replaced after. you can flash again cwm after your phone boot normally.
good luck.

Hi! yesterday I tried to get cyanogenmod to my Samsung galaxy W. Firstly I used this tutorial to root my phone View attachment 1899558
Then I installed clockworkmod recovery with this tutorial

When I did the ''IV. Accessing ClockworkMod Recovery'' , I tried to backup my phone, but there wasn't enough space to do it, so I pressed ''reboot'' and this happens, it goes through the samsung and galaxy w logo, but after that the screen just turns black, this happens every time when I try to turn it on. I can access the clockworkmod recovery.
I have tried to ''wipe the cache partition'', ''wipe data/factory reset'' and wipe ''dalvik cache'' but it doesn't seem to work.
What should I do, I don't want cyangenmod after this haha I just want to know if there is a way to get the phone working.
Any answers would be appreciated

Some wrong sequence there :
Forgets the steps as per attachment.
In assumption the CM9 ROM.zip is in your SD Card...
Boot to CWM
Locate the CM9 ROM using and remember the location i.e. External SD etc
Now under Advance...Format all folders clean (not the folder containing the CM9 ROM)
Wipe / Format / Cache etc = the usual
Wipe Dalvik
Fix Permission
Flash the CM9 then GAPPS
Reboot...:good:
No need to back-up once you have used CM9...you will never go back to GB
If you insist on back-up just move all your treasures in your PC 1st, best to format the SD Card then move the ROM.zip to it

[Q] [HELP!] Phone bricked and CWM Restore Did Not Backup Everything!

Today, I downloaded a Xperia S Lockscreen Mod and noticed that it caused a boot loop once flashed. To save this, I downloaded the fix permissions script, but still no change. Later on, I decided to back up the ROM, and then proceeded to flash 4.0.4 with Flashtool. Halfway flashing, I looked into the backup folder I created with CWM, only to find out it did not backup my entire ROM, but only mere parts of it. (All of my Nandroid Backups were about 1GB, but this one was 200-ish MB) Since it was too late, I just proceeded. For some random reason, I decided to flash 4.0.3, and now my Sony cannot even boot. (Just has this Warning symbol once past Sony screen)
Is there any way to draw out the phone data that is still in the phone? I do not want to lose all of my Contacts, SMS, Call Data etc.
PLEASE REPLY ASAP AND THANK IN ADVANCE!

Ok, firstly(and obviously) do not delete your backups as they contain your precious data.
You can use either SEUS or Flashtool to help you fix your phone.
Flashtool: Flash .ftf file
SEUS: Needs Locked BL, Stock Kernel for it to work
After you flash to stock Kernal and Firmware, you can root, unlock BL, flash CWM Kernel and Restore your backups from it.
Hope this helps

Can I root and flash CWM when bricked? And also, the backup I made in the process wasn't done properly in the way that it did not backup everything, maybe because my SD Card was already running out of space. Im not sure how much it backed up, nor do I want to take the risk of wiping data prior to flashing.
Is there any other way of backing up my data when bricked?
And thank you for your help.
1. Yes, you can flash CWM while on fastboot. I suggest you flash stock ftf file, then flash kernel.
2. You can access CWM folder in sd card via PC to access your backups, but you cannot extract data from them.
This is the content you will see in your backup folder.

Dude i believe more or less your data is gone now. Listen to the above post and use Flashtool and flash the stock Sony FTF file for your phone. Then boot into stock rom and later install CWM (either with auto installer or by flashing a custom kernel with CWM) then try putting your backup.

The Flashtool is simply what it says on the tin, it's a tool that flashes Firmware to your device in a similar manner as SEUS or PC Companion does except the Flashtool requires .ftf files which can be downloaded from your devices General or Development forum. This is generally the preferred method for Repairing your Phone if SEUS or PC Companion aren't an option or you just prefer not to use them. You can also use the Flashtool to flash a Generic .ftf to your device which will remove any Operator Branding from your device.
This video by BlueChipJ explains the process of using the Flashtool...

Back to Stock Rom Without Odin

Hello, this is my first thread here. I want to share my experience using android lol. I'm a noob, so this is maybe for noob too .
If you always changing your rom only to test or whatever, you may have to go back to stock rom via Odin. So, here I will tell you how to go back to stock rom without Odin .
Click to collapse
First, you need to be on stock rom, then go to cwm, then backup your fresh stock rom.
Now, try install a custom rom with custom kernel inside it. Then you want to go back to stock rom. Follow this.
Go to your stock rom files (PDA...blabla, MODEM....blabla, CSC....blabla), and open your PDA..blabla using winrar or whatever and extract the boot.img inside it to your sdcard. DON'T PUT IT IN A FOLDER.
Next, you need to download SGYbiCWM.zip below. Then, go into cwm.
1. Wipe data then make sure that system is mounted (look at mount and storage).
2. Install zip from sdcard and choose SGYbiCWM.zip
3. Then go to backup and restore - advanced restore. And restore system, data and cache from your backup of stock rom. (Don't restore your boot.img because you may get failed to restore boot.img of your backup of stock rom.
4. Wipe data again then reboot.
5. If stuck, try reinstalling SGYbiCWM.zip from cwm then reboot.
I'm a noob, so please guide me if I'm wrong. And, sorry for bad English .
Tools.

does not restore the kernel & init_rd. So SGYbiCWM does it manually.
But remember, under some kernels like MT 2.0 even SGYbiCWM does not work, so to restore a stock kernel under such circumstances you must issue the "dd" command inside SGYbiCWM manually in a root shell, or maybe as a script.
In fact, you may find a root shell script more handy than SGYbiCWM or CWM backup/restore.
instead of restoring cache you may want to wipe it. restoring sd-ext never worked here, so link2sd is problematic.
to sum up: in this menu :
, read:
the advanced nandroid restore of
boot.img kernel

instructions seem accurate. CWM 5.0.6.2
does not restore the kernel & init_rd.

Sorry for bad english
Hey can I use this to install the new kernel like white kernel without restoring the backup
Guys I installed cyanogenmod 7 (1.8)by whitexp successfully with white kernel 1.0.
Before installing cm7 I backed up my stock rom using cwm.
To install white kernel I used madteams cwm. Now I want to go back to stock rom from phone itself as I don't have a PC right now to use Odin.
I tried to install the stock kernel (boot.img) using sgybicwm.zip but wasn't successful.
And when I try to restore my nandroid backup through advanced restore >>restore system,
It says md5 mismatch...
Please help friends..
EDIT: got back to stock by odin..
I just did a silly thing while using odin..
First I selected all the three files and hit on start.
Everything went fine but there was no progress after that checking and files ok message that comes in left corner message box.
I waited for 10 minutes but no progress was showing on phone also, so I disconnected in between.
Well I was lucky that my phone booted up.
I tried another odin file and it worked.

yes, but maybe you want to install stock kernel (using SGYbiCWM.zip) before installing a custom kernel. then you can use the SGYbiCWM.zip to install a custom kernel in a stock kernel. Just put the custom kernel boot.img on your sdcard (not on a folder).

did you use madteam's cwm? on this method, the cwm used is cwm_bla_bla.zip, so maybe you will try using it

about your problem, the pda or modem file is on your odin flashable files and not on your cwm backup files. You just only take the boot.img from pda files. Then, you flash it manually using SGYbicwm.zip, then restore the backup from cwm. Read the post carefully

ODIN
well, being able to reflash without the help of a PC & ODIN is a huge advantage.
So I believe flashing with SGY only and w/o ODIN is the easiest way to flash. But ODIN has extra capabilities of course.

Hello, this is my first thread here. I want to share my experience using android lol. I'm a noob, so this is maybe for noob too .
Tools.

[FAQS] [LT26i][4.1.2]{LEAK} Sony JellyBean Firmware: 6.2.B.0.197 (WORKING!)

Hey guys,
Here is the Thread of the original ROM : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252940
DooMLoRD ask to make a New Thread so that the original thread is not spammed.
I will try to answer as fast as I can and try to update this post frequently too.
So, here we go!!
Tutorial by maxgo1 :
1) Is This ROM work for Locked Bootloader?
No
2) Will work for Locked Bootloader?
No. This rom, and all others roms JB need a special Kernel to work.. so.. this need unlocked bootloader..
3) I got a bootloop after install this ROM..
On recovery, make sure that /System is unmounted.. (should be like this "mount /system")
4) I am on (XYZ) ROM.. What do i do before i flash this ROM ?
First of all make sure that you fulfill requirements :
-unlocked bootloader
-previously on stock .55 ICS ROM or roms based on that [since some components of THIS rom contain files from those firmwares]
-supplied ROM
-any existing kernel with recovery
-download the ROM and save it on SDCARD
-reboot device into recovery (make sure that the /system partition is unmounted, i have noticed that in some kernels the /system partition remains mounted)
-flash the ROMs update.zip (this will take some time)
-thats it now reboot device
-at first boot device will reboot once after bootanimation thats expected
-next boot will take a long time!!!
-it might happen that in after some reboots u get a "flashing firmware screen" thats ok.. let it complete... DO NOT DISTURB WHILE THAT PROCESS IS GOING ON!!!
-after a few reboots the ROM should stabilize!
enjoy!
So Yes you should be on a STOCK BASED ROM OR THE FIRMWARE ITSELF
5) Is the network now working ??
Yes
6) When will the official release be ??
Somewhere around end of MAY
7) Found a bug ?
Ok!! It will help a lot!! Post it on this threat and someone will help you with that.. Sometimes bugs are individual problems or general problems.. So, if was a General one, Developers will take care of it.. If it was a Individual problem.. try solving it..
Before You flash backup everything including sdcard..
8) I flashed successfully, how do i enter recovery ?
To enter recovery keep pressing VOLUME UP button AFTER u see the "PINK" LED at bootup (Sony logo)
9) Procedure :
Wipe data, cache, system and dalvik.. Then flash !!
10) Status 7 error ??
Read the OP carefully make sure that the /system partition is unmounted
11) Does the ROM include STAMINA mode?
Only Battery Management is included, but someone said that when you get to 15% it says that you can activate STAMINA to improve battery. We need to wait until final fw for that.
12) Does the ROM include Auto Superior mode?
No, it only has Superior Auto Scene Recognition mode, contrary to the last leaked fw.
13) After flashing this, will the root remain?
This is pre-rooted rom
14) Will Bravia-Engine work?
No, Bravia-Engine only works on locked bootloader
15) What about the kernel version?
Its 3.4
16) Since it is based on .55, will the leak work?
its not based on .55
17) Can i relock my bootloader after i flashed this leaked rom?
At the moment NO
18) Will I lose SDCARD data if I flash this firmware?
Only apps
19) So an overclock is possible?
No
20) Can not use 3g with data ?
Manually enter access points
I can confirm that when it goes down to 15% of battery it says it recommend to active stamina mode

As I remember it used to be like that even when I did nothing(unlock BL, root, etc.) to my phone...
Hi, sorry if this has already been covered. I did look but couldn't find any information. This is the first time i've ever installed a ROM on my phone, and I know you said that the install would take a while. I was just wondering if you could tell me roughly how long?
I think I'm just getting a bit anxious because there's no percentage bar etc to tell me if I'm installing this correctly or if it's doing nothing.
My phone's been sitting on "installing update" for about 30/40 mins now. Is this normal? Or is it safe to reboot my phone back into system and try again?

U have already lost ur warranty by unlocking boatloader.
So, just go ahead and enjoy ur phone.

I got a bug, after I lock the screen few times, the text line "Swipe up or down to unlock" completed gone unless I reboot the phone (stile can swipe to unlock phone tho).
I have 2 problems and fix it myself as follow:
1. For ppl get status 7 error come with phase "getprop.." while flashing rom : you can either follow this link (highonandroid.com/android-roms/how-to-fix-status-7-error-with-cwm-recovery-on-rooted-android/) or just simply flash the boot.img include in the leak rom (use fastboot mode to flash).
2. At first time, my map wont work, it wont let me get my possition. I have to open App draw > google setting > Location > Let google apps access your location: ON (the location service menu in system setting simply wont work for me )
thanks but need help

There's is just need to wait some time. It's create all indexes of all files. It's not scary.

I have to ask a preliminary question. What is your boot loader (is it the lastest (4.3))? If your bootloader IS not the latest then there are many ways to "start fresh" by flashing the Stock Rom in ODIN. Ill wait for your reply and guide you further.

Quite honestly I dont know how to check from the recovery but which version of stock were you on? 4.3? 4.1.2?
---------- Post added at 07:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:16 PM ----------
I also feel that you can wipe you data, internal data, system, cache and dalvik (which will delete everything) and then push the correct roms and gaaps thorough ABD so you wouldnt need to go back to stock

There is a difference that could be seen when you are in download mode due to Knox on the 4.3 update. Upload a picture of your download mode and we can advise you from there.

Okay, from everything you've said here is the best solution that has the least percent of messing up.
Follow everything carefully and you should be good as new!
Boot into TWRP
Wipe DATA/FACTORY RESET
Wipe CACHE
Wipe DALVIK
Format SYSTEM
MOUNT your internal storage to the computer
***TAKE BACKUP OF PICTURES, ETC. from internal storage***
DELETE everything in the internal storage once you take backup, if needed
*** Based on your phone model and everything else I did most of the work and found the correct links, if you dont trust them search CM and 4.3 Gaaps and download them ***
COPY Stable rom to internal storage - here is cyanogenmod 10.2.1 stable for ATT i747: https://download.cyanogenmod.org/get/jenkins/57775/cm-10.2.1-d2att.zip
COPY Gaaps zip to internal storage - here is PA gaaps 4.3: http://www.mediafire.com/download/n2a7nta3jrj1ltk/pa_gapps-modular-mini-4.3-20131024-signed.zip
UNMOUNT internal storage
Flash CM
Flash Gaaps
Clear CACHE
Clear DALVIK
Reboot! You should be good to go

I said internal storage cause then you can also clear it and delete any junk files left behind. Once again I am not too familiar with TWRP and if you are able to flash zips straight from external storage, thats also fine.
ALSO look at other person posting a few replies ahead of mine, He has a way to check if you have 4.3 or not. If you didn't have 4.3 then you can flash back to stock easily and start from there instead of flashing a CUSTOM rom.
