Hello all,
Just wondering if anyone has had the same issue as me with EI22... I have had it twice now and eventually the 2g just goes away, wont connect and then i lose the signal completely... I have odined back to EC05 and it works good. I just upgraded to ACS ICS 5.5 from v2 of ACS.. I have noticed that signal seems weaker with EC05, wanted to go back to EI22 but didnt want to encounter the same issue...
anyone else have this? any ideas or help?
Thanks!

try installing a different kernel, than update your "prl" and "profile"... then reboot your phone. see what happens. a really good kernel that i recommend is the shadowkernel

im on samuri_gen 1.2 kernel now.. i thought that was a good one...
well it's suppose to be, but if your having problems with signal and speed, perhaps for kicks or trial and error, you should try a different kernel, just to see what happens. maybe better results, maybe not. only one way to find out.
I'm certain signal has nothing to do with the kernel try flashing other modems on ei22. I that sometimes others phones like other versions of modems ec05 and ei22 and not he only ones. Just the official "stable" but other are still usable. As for speed yes the kernel has to do with. Also try going back to ec05 not updating to ei22 but rooting and flashing a ei22 rom and flash the delta zip modemEc05toEi22.zip

If their phone wasn't rooted yet how did you get clockworkmod on? Odin? You can't flash with stock recovery.

no, their phone is not rooted "yet", but i booted into "stock" recovery and just hit install update zip. oohh, i think i know what happened. i didn't click on the file name and rename it to update.zip... thats why it probably failed. wow, how did i miss that.

You cannot do that. Only Samsung or Sprint signed zips can be done as an update.zip. So it would have to be renamed and ssigned or it will fail. He needs to root first and that is easy on EC05.

It is a delta script bulit to change your modem to the ei22 since there is not an official tar for ei22 modems. And it could help you because I know some people have issues with signal when they update rather than take the path of just flashing an ei22 rom and updating there modem thru the modem.zip and ill upload you it in a minute.

The only way to get the ei22 modem is to either accept the ota update to ei22 gb or to root and flash the ec05toei22.zip on a rooted phone... I think I still have the delta file somewhere I will post here when I find it...

I hope hoping to get some discussion going regarding Mobile Odin and how it's working for people on our device.
So far, I've exclusively used it to flash kernels, but has anyone successfully flashed a full TAR with it yet? More specifically, has that full TAR also flashed your modem? I tried flashing a modem.bin file last night using MO, and while it went through the whole process in a way that appeared to be normal, upon reboot baseband was unchanged. I've read about others experiencing the same thing.
According to Chainfire regarding the modem.bin issue ...
Chainfire said:
This maybe a problem specific to CDMA devices... I'm not sure yet though.

I also read about some kernel panic mode reports when trying to use MO to flash the latest FC05 TAR.
So if you've used Mobile Odin, please share your successes and or failures. It's obviously a great tool but I'd like to identify where it's working and where it may not, for our device specifically.
I have used it going from ics back to GB ....but have only been flashing eg30 stock tar and then el26 cwm kernel .....then I boot into recovery and flash cm 7 if going to aokp or whatever ....I have tried fc05 & fb27 modem and they don't work it goes to like it is flashing it but finishes real quick like 10 seconds .... And normal Odin takes like a minute or more to flash modem...

I have been using to flash kernels and modems up until FC05. For some reason it will no longer flash modems, like said, it goes through the motions.
Ah, just remembered, used it to flash 27 tar, whole ROM. Flashed modem/kernel/system no issues. Even used it to open that .tar and just flash the modem or kernel once or twice.
The only thing that scares me about MOdin is getting a force close during a flash and hosing my phone.

I don't think that's possible. It seems to get the files ready then actually does the flashing on the reboot, as some kind of preboot flash function. When I flash a modem for example, upon reboot a Mobile Odin screen comes up and does stuff then the phone's OS boots.

Hmmm. So it sounds like you can flash a modem as a piece out of a TAR image, but not from a modem.bin file. I've tried the modem.bins for EL29, FC21 and FC27 all with the same result, which is no change.
You can pick parts out of a .tar.
I've had no luck with .bin files either.

Could you link to the pre-rooted EG30 Tar you have? I downloaded this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20089082#post20089082
and not sure if its pre-rooted. So when I flashed it via Mobile Odin I played it safe and just manually re-rooted via my Mac. I should have just checked to see if it was, but it didn't hit me at the time that a simple terminal command would confirm.
It would be nice to learn how to package things up to flash with mo and avoid recovery all together. Not even sure where to begin on that one.

Indeed, but you need to be EXTREMELY careful, like even more so than you do when modifying a .zip file.
.md5, .tar, etc. -- those are risky business to tamper with, unless you can repackage it and sign it correctly after adjusting, removing, and what have you.

I don't think this what he means by "pick parts out of a .tar". I think he means Mobile Odin can select only certain partition elements of a TAR, like just the modem for example. Please correct me if my assumption is wrong.

yp yup. its doing the same thing as musclehead. says its flashing but afterwards just goes back to the homescreen.
its doing the same thing to me. im not sure if it matters but i did notice when i had superSU installed it wouldnt work but it was doing something different. after i uninstalled superSU and updated the binarny for the regular superuser.apk app it seemed to do an extra step that i dint notice it wasnt doing on prior tries. so if any of u are using superSU then uninstall it and see what i mean. maybe that can help us fig it out. cause i did notice at the bottom of superSU it says something about "injecting superSU"...sorry if my wording on that was confusing.
I noticed when I am using it to replace a stock kernel it doesn't reboot, but it does install kernel I wanted. I just manually reboot.

The same was happening to me but it was with modems, and it was several builds ago. I was stuck with FD19 (not a complaint, seeing as how that's the best modem for me so far)
It definitely is not an overall Mobile Odin thing, for me... when I couldn't install a new modem it wouldn't do it from the unlocked stock recovery either. It would SAY that it was. So I was thinking that it was a kernel issue.. Doesn't Mobile Odin make himself a copy of your current kernel to use a "flash kernel?'
Also, are you using "open file" with a .tar or are you placing the zImage directly in the kernel slot? I have noticed varying results when I do it differently.
As a temporary solution, download "Hc-kTool" from the market.
This app is also a must have. You can dump your current kernel, flash zImages, install update.tar packets with a zImage, modem.bin, and param.lfs, backup and restore EFS...
Just until MoOd is up and running for you this should hold you over.

I tried out FE10 (Sfhub) the other day, and tried to mobile Odin back to EL29 and it wouldn't work. I'm guessing its the same scenario as you're having on FE16. Everything works as normal, and then right after it says "flashing kernel", it just does nothing instead of rebooting and flashing like it should.

I've noticed on some of the TW based roms when I would flash a kernel with mobile odin it just doesnt reboot the phone after flashing. I would then reboot into recovery and the kernel I had flashed would be there.

Sometimes I'd flash a kernel threw mobile Odin. And it wouldn't do the reboot at first I thought it didn't work. And would do it over again but one day I I checked to see if the kernel was flashed regardless and it was good to go. Plus it still happens here and there and every time kernel still flashes great. :what:

Also; I had the moble odin doing nothing issue, after you tell him what to do and he does nothing just immediately boot into recovery and he'll go about his business.

Try going back to gingerbread and flashing the EL26 kernal. Then flash the ICS rom you want through that recovery.
AOKP and CM9 have problems with data. every time you or system turn off screen say goodbye to data until 1.enable disable airplane mode or 2.reboot that's the main reason I stay away from these awesome roms until source arrives.
These roms are the best. IMO
1.odin back to stock el29 full reset oc
2.boot update profile and prl
3.copy the rom files to sd
4.turnitoff it off
4.enter download mode and flash el26+cmw for AOKP or el29+cwm direct boot for CM9
5.clear cache, factory data reset, clear dalvik on advance menu
6.go back and select install zip from sd card and choose the rom and flash it
7.flash gapps if apply

I think I FINALLY got it to work. I started stock with rooted EL29 Odin-OC, flashed the "StockCWM-EL26.tar.m5d" in Odin, flashed the AOKP build 37 rom, flashed gapps, then flashed the FE16 kernel AND modem. When I rebooted the data was working.
Not that I am advocating this, and I am far from an expert, but I odin flash a stock rooted rom (SPH-D710.FC22_CL287574_ROOTED-oc-sfx) without going back to el29 just to have a nice clean stock rom to flash over with something else (like FIFO2). I just try to make sure I do everything in the same session so I don't get stuck in a stock recovery.
My order when flashing (non-Odin):
calkulin's format all
Modem (sometimes...if newer is available)
Rom
Kernel (with a custom recovery; sometimes the roms come with a stock recovery so if you reboot before installing a custom one, you'll have to either use odin to flash a custom recovery or mobile Odin)
any additional items that the rom didn't include (like gapps, etc.)
reboot

Another thing to keep in mind is that AOKP was ported to the E4GT. That could cause issues depending on what you're coming from. Make sure to read all the instructions from the dev before flashing. If the worst happens, buy insurance on your phone and smash it...That's what I did with my evo when I bricked it.
Hey guys. I recently got an old Samsung Epic 4G Touch due to my HTC Evo 4G LTE breaking from water damage. I've been able to root the Galaxy and flash a version of jellybean (beanstalk). However, when I try to flash any other ROMs than this, the data doesn't work. I've tried flashing the correct modems (I think) to no avail. Any suggestions?
Can you post a screen shot of your about phone page that shows the modem. What carrier are you on?

You probably need to update your Profile and PRL. Flash back to a Touchwiz ROM to get it done... I would flash an ICS version to not worry about changing the modem.

Could you tell me how to do that? I'm not sure if I have been doing it the correct way.

I don't have info on FB27. If you are on Sprint it should be GB27. That is the modem. You should slow down before you brick the phone. You should have some one-click files on your PC to take your phone back to stock if need be. Also you should have a touchwiz modem as well as an ICS modem on the phone. I would suggest FL24 and GB27. A copy of EL29 direct boot. A copy of AGATs recovery. A copy of Philz touch recovery. A copy of Mobile Odin Lite. To update to the current PRL you can do as @Surj138 says just so you don't have to flash modems. I think you are on the wrong modem anyway. Flash a modem in recovery. Don't do it through Mobile Odin.

FB27 should be fine... Any gingerbread or ics modem will work. But I would update to FL24 anyway.

Sorry, this is all still fairly new to me. I'm used to flashing ROMs easily on my Evo lol. Could you point me to a tutorial that will show me how to do this?

Do I have to flash anything else than what is mentioned in this thread/video?

Ok, so I flashed that stock ROM but now it doesn't boot. When I flash the stock 4.1.2 ROM, it boots up and works fine. Any suggestions?

Just remember that if you want to flash a non-touchwiz JB or KK ROM, you have to be on a ICS modem (bigmike suggested FL24). If you are on touchwiz JB (stock, or one of the touchwiz custom ROMs for this phone), you can flash a JB modem (such as GB27).
I think you have to be on touchwiz to change the phone number. You have to be on touchwiz to update profile and PRL. But you can be on an ICS modem in touchwiz to do that.
If you want 4g on this phone, you have to be on touchwiz -- or at least you did, until last Monday (Nov. 3), when dastin released a version of CM11 for this phone that works with 4g. That's what I am running on my phone and it works for me.
