Does this just happen when you take a picture with the front facing camera does it vertically flip the photo meaning the inverse? Thanks

Naturally, it's the natural image that camera takes the pictures. Most of cameras have the function to reverse the image, so the final image shows the objects just like what you see. If the image from your camera is inversed, then it means that something has been changed on the camera option or intentionally not reverse the image.
Very old camera shows the image like that...
I changed no options is this just something the device does?

Which app? do you mean Stock Camera app?
[Update] never mind. I just tested it out and found the issue in here.
The stock camera does not reverse the original image even it shows reversed image on the screen.
So, one step missing on front camera app. This should be fixed on next version....
During the time, if you need to reverse the image, there's a workaround. Go to the photo editor and select the image taken from front camera and apply the 'reverse' by clicking the arrow icon heading left side....
Thanks very much just making sure because I was like why is the image flipped!

So when I look at myself using the front facing camera it looks right. Then when I snap the picture it flips. On my EVO it did not do this. I looked in the settings to see if it was something I could change but I did not see anything. This is really annoying to me.
Am I missing it or is there a workaround out there?

The flip is to adjust it like a mirror.
Have you not figured it out?

The front camera shows a mirror image, but when you take a pic it takes it as the camera sees it, so you are actually taking a self portrait.
IIRC, the Evo would always take a mirror image with the front camera.
So are you saying you want to take a pic with your front camera and see it as a mirror image? The camera won't do this that I can see, but you can easily flip the pic with the photo editor app that comes on the E4GT.

Why do you want such a feature? O_ o.... that makes absolutely no sense to me, when you can just take the image you took, and flip it with any or current pic editor, i understand that you might want it automated, but..er.. what i don't get is why would you want such a feature lol.
Look for my fixed camera in the apps and themes forum. The international galaxy s2 has this as an option. The zip I posted will give you what your looking for.
This bugs me as well...

Thanks.... Your modified camera fixed it! Also, like that when selecting the focus point, the flash lights up to capture focus. I didnt see that feature in the stock camera but its nice for taking a picture in dim lit areas where it can be hard to focus.
I've always had this issue and just never asked till now. It's not related to cm9 or any ROM as it's always happened. Pics will show the correct orientation in gallery/camera but as soon as I attach to send in an MMS message the picture displays sideways. Anyone know why, or how to fix this? It's annoying when I send a pic to my gf cause she can only look at it sideways, and her screen is much smaller than our Epic's so it's hard to see.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Additional info. Apparently according to her saving the pic gets it to display the proper orientation. However when sent it's still sideways. This does "not" happen when she sends me a pic though. They are received from anyone else in the correct orientation, it's only when sending.

The orientation is correct when I choose the photo. It "attaches" sideways and sends as such.

That's why I said rotate in gallery so when it attaches its correct

I shouldn't have to. Then I would have to go in and correct my pictures in gallery every time I send one. I should add this is only for "camera" pics. Downloaded pics send with correct orientation. I'm trying to get to the root of the issue so I no longer have it.

lost, thats not always true. it depends what type of "os" the recievers phone has. non-android and non-iphones don't correct the orientation.

zei, check on her prevail in the menu - settings - display, and make sure "auto-rotate" is checked marked.
Are you using the FFC or rear facing camera? And if using the rear facing camera, are you holding the phone where the camera button is on top or on the side (vertical)? I believe Samsung designed it this way. It assumes if you're using the back camera, it's to be taken in landscape mode, and it displays each picture as such.
I remember reading about this, or something very similar, a short time after I got my Epic and it was a known problem.
The opposite I believe is also true. If using the FFC, it assumes you're taking the picture in portrait mode (vertical) and will display the picture accordingly.

What messaging app are you using? Might be a setting in your/her app.
Stock messaging app. It's not her phone, it shows incorrect orientation in the messaging app "before" sending, shows that way on the other end, then corrects after she saves the attach and views it through gallery. And yes, it's only portrait photos that do this, landscape shows properly. Not sure the reason for the camera saving the picture in the proper orientation in the gallery but it displaying differently when attached to send as MMS. Why would that happen if the orientation is already correct before attaching it?

I'm experiencing same problem...on cm9
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
There's adobe photoshop express, a free photo editor fr the market that can be helpful w/ the orientation........however, this does not fix the actual problem..........get the mismatched setting less often, but am never sure when it'll reappear............so for those 'flipped' images PS Express is my personal quick fix!
..........sent from today's android = 4.0.3!
Problem only exists when picture is taken with phone in regular position...when using sideways like the camera app opens in problem is gone.so looks like that's our fix.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
That's not a real fix. The problem isn't in the camera. The camera takes the pic in the proper orientation, and it displays correctly in the gallery. It's in attaching it to MMS.

Its some issue in android iirc, its done that as long as I can remember. If you take a picture in portrait, it'll send it in portrait, but landscape pics get rotated(or is it reverse? I'm sleepy atm).
My "solution" is to "crop" the picture, but select the whole picture, it essentially copies it, and sends correctly if you attach the "cropped" picture. I know its an extra step, but it takes about 30 seconds so it's easy to get used to
I am Z.
I want to know if there is any script that can activate the zoom in the camera, for me is an important function in the phone, or if someone recommends a functional application in the Xperia Play
cropping your pics after u have taken them will give u better quality or slightly better quality pics instead of zooming which can't be implemented in the stock camera apk
And that goes as well with a third party app like camera zoomfx. Just bought the app thinking there would be a zoom function while using the camera.

You just need to change the zoom type in setting to zoom number 4 (i think)
It zooms in then

It's definitely Zoom type 4. Though, the picture quality is really bad with digital zoom. You're much better off cropping a 5mp image, if quality is a concern.
Will try that Zoom type 4.
Is there a way to mod the camera so your can manually focus the shot? Sometimes when in macro mode it over focuses and the image is still blurry.
Thanks

not sure if this is what you were asking for. simply touch the spot on the screen where you need focus before taking a pic?

No that just tells the camera to focus on a specific area of the screen. What I'm wanting to be able to manually adjust the amount of focus on an image
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
ok, you need "focus ring" like capability. I am not aware of any cam app that can do that. i don't know whether the camera firmware provides interfaces for such (low-level) functionality, but an indirect method would be to use a reference ruler in the pic for gradually adjusting focal length ( still a pain, I know).

Hi all
I've been using this device for long. Recently while taking few pics i realized that camera couldn't on near objects. It can only focus on near objects upto a certain focal length and for lesser distance it focuses on far object and hence subject is blurred while background becomes focussed.. Anyone else having this issue.??

I've just taken a picture of my mouse.
The spot I marked is the spot I let my device focus, its nearly exactly 6 centimeters from the camera away.
http://i.imgur.com/kMDewJW.jpg
I think that's a decent result... I tried to place my mouse a little bit closer, but then the focus couldn't handle it anymore.

It works fine here at 2-3cm, but not with button - You need to tap the screen on the object you need to focus. Try, maybe it will help.

Yep, the camera button doesn't try to focus that closely. If you touch the object on screen it'll focus just fine.

Any idea if this behavior can be tweaked? What's the point of a 2-stage shutter key if the focus doesn't work as intended?

Unless most of your shots are macro i'm pretty sure it works.
I think you can use "macro" setting when you take a close up photo.
I never use auto. Always select area and focus manually. Sooo much better
