Aroma Installer and some question - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 General

Hello guys.
Since it's my first post so i hope this's can usefull and can help my problem.
Did you all see thread this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1461712 It's aroma installer that can build custom rom with UI in recovery mode (if no mistake) and success in htc device. From this forum i know that sgy have dev and mod that success to build rom, recovery, and now MAROK kernel. It's sound good if we can build in with the installer to make our device more better.
So, is there any dev or mod try or start to this stuff to build our device?
You know that i'm newbie in android device, but i've start to learn the installer and make some modification (just a little part) and you know it's not easy to develop something if we are a newbie.
After i read about android i know that i must have tools to help us, so i've start to download any stuf to help me. Some of my tool that i have in my PC are cygwin, dsixda kitchen, apk manager, xUltimate, notepad++, 7zip, winrar, jre 6.22, jdk 6.20, microsoft.netframework 2 and 4 client user, and window xp sp2.
Is there any tools that i should have to help me playing with my device?
From all stuff that i have so far only xUltimate can give me best result for deodex. But to applied to my device in recovery mode i use tool that develop from other member like pratyuse, shuvit_kaskuser, skin, and the newest is marok. Thanks to you all guys and other that i've forget
Sory if this post is annoying you all and thanks to make me more better with this forum.

wow...you're so serious dude. I'm only using CWM, root explorer, titanium backup and a base custom ROM to make my own custom ROM (lol). btw, a deodex ROM will use a lot of internal memory. It isn't a mighty feature that every ROM must have. I thought we should use it wisely.

I just read all bout android and don't know what should i do so i've try all of method for customize my device.
deodex In original stock of course it's will be more use internal memory but i've delete some app that i don't need. only some app can't deodex with xultimate.
I wanna make my device simple n fast. and of course wanna try aroma installer too.

well...this is what I do for compiling a new ROM. I'm definetely not a dev so I can't start with a raw project. I started from a custom ROM (in my case, its myss v.3.4. you may use other one. Repencis doesn't work in my test thought). we need these custom rom only to install our ROM in our device so basicly we can use any custom ROM. after that I customize my stock ROM with root explorer and titanium backup. I use root explorer to put some apps in /system/app and editing script. I like a light ROM which consume minimum internal memory so I use titanium backup to integrate dalvik cache into /system/app. after all customization on my stock ROM, I create a nandroid backup with CWM. extract it. then replace anything in my base custom ROM except /system/bin and /system/xbin. these two folder is related to kernel and the installer script so basicly I didn't do anything on them except removing any a2sd script. the last step, repack all the files into *zip file and flash it via cwm.
for customizing the theme, we can use UOT kitchen or recompile framework-res.apk and systemUI.apk manually via eclipse or just replacing the files inside with 7zip. we may also put another bootanimation.zip in /system/media to change the bootscreen and put bootsound.ogg in /system/etc for the bootsound.
for everything we do, we should make sure the size is fit with our system partition. thats the reason why I customize my stock ROM manually via rootexplorer. I just want to make sure that the my customization is fit with my system partition and work properly. I thought our system partition is 220 mb but make sure you give some space for later modification.
well...thats all. I'm not saying that I really make a new custom ROM. It's more like recompile another ROM with my personal taste. a fresh installation of mine is only use about 3.4 mb internal ROM.

Same case with me, i'm not dev so i just compile any trick from other. But i always start from stock rom (i use dxlb1) then i modified as i like to make my device at least not brick. Anyway your method sound nice just 3.4MB fresh installation in internal and maybe sometime i will try.
I now there's many method to customize device but we (as newbie) still confuse with the step and tools are needed. Some method doesn't work even we doing step by step right because of different case or maybe some forget guide from the source.
In my opinon, can moderator give us guide or compilation how to customize device because i didn't see that thread in sgy forum (hope i'm not wrong) or maybe just link reference. Of course must put in faq or ultimate tutorial because this is just for newbie.

there's also a negatif effect of using full odexed ROM. it takes a lot of space in /system. in my case, I remove all bloatware and useless app and got only 20-15 mb free space in /system. btw, if you want to see which app is safe to removed, you may see hybrid ROM app list. he remove almost everything in this ROM (lol). I thought we can't put a tutorial for compiling a ROM. it would be huge and difficult to understand for a noob (just like me). you should PM'ed the dev to teach you how to make a custom ROM.

Aroma Installer can use on SGY..

download the andriod kitchen.
use the kitchen to extract the files and remove those apks that you don't want.
then repack the zip using the kitchen and flash it.
just do a search on xda and you will find the android kitchen.
i will agree with the kitchen too i am using it today and i am amazed of what you can do....
in addition you can just open the rom in winrar, go to /system/app and just delete the apps you don't want the rom will update itself!!!
then on your phone you should toggle the signed verification and install it

is there any other file i need to delete or just the .apk? and would you mind telling me what addition features does the kitchen offer?
thanks in advance=)
if the rom is odexed you should delete the .odex file too....it should be below the .apk
the kitchen has anything you want to do with a rom.....zipalign, a2sd, busybox and you can edit any file from the rom.....!!!!
Thanks! would def try out the kitchen when new roms are out=)
i really recommend it to you to start NOW you can customize the rom as you like at every possible way.....even ringtones, languages, alarm sound by default, images, colours, apps, bootanimation and everything
you will need much reading though especially when customizing framework

How to add apk files into a rom

hey i want to add some files like htc clock.apk and calculator.apk to N.S.A rom, so how do i go about it. Any help
Thank you.
unzip the ROM, add them to the app folder and rezip it and then flash the ROM (making sure the recovery utility you're using allows non-signed ROMs)
i am using clockworkmod recovery, does it allow flashing unsigned rom??
Thanks

Sorry, what does that means.
Yes, you have to remove the signing checking option in it (under advanced or something, have a play about)

does this work for the captivate
Don't know, go ask in the captivate forum and not the Desire one
Hi all, i'm a new user and i have some trouble adding .apk's into cooked roms.
In particular, i'm trying to add some .apk into /system/app of InsertCoin Gingerbread 1.0.5
I have unzipped the rom, add those apk's, zipped again but when i flash it from recovery it says "Can't Find Update Script".

Don't(!) unzip the rom. Just open the archive using 7zip or winzip (or something like that; right-click zip and choose 'open archive'). Then just move apk to correct folder. If you're taking apk's from another rom, open that using 7zip as well. Then, drag the program from one rom to the other. When you're finished and want to flash the rom, make sure you've disabled 'signature verification' in recovery (it is an option in recovery).
Thank you, i was able to flash my first "modded" version with different boot/down animation, Teeter game (i love it) and Titanium Backup
The only thing i was not able to do was Root Explorer, i tried to put it in system/app and in data/app but when i flash rom it doesn't appear in the drawer.
Any suggestion?

I have been learning how to do this in the last few days and have had similar issues as you. I can get some to install fine and appear in the drawer but not all.
I have only been adding the apk's to system/app and not data/app. Should the apk's be added to one of these, both of them or another folder completely?
Can anyone help the two of us out?
I used apk swapper but all the apps are not working

[GUIDE]How to make your own rom

This is a simple guide to make your own custom rom……..(the other parts will be written…as soon as I become bothered to type for hours again)
PART 1:setup the kitchen and rom
1.Download java(java.com) and install the java JDK(www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html)
2.Download the kitchen(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246) (thankyou DSIXDA for your amazing kitchen)
3.Download Cygwin(Cygwin.com)
3.extract the cygwin file(using winzip or winrar) in C drive only….dont put it into any folders
a.Enter a file called Cygwin(setup file)
b.click next>install from local directory
c.now it will ask you where to put the program….leave everything as default
d.now It will ask you where the location of the packages are so>click browse>click my computer >go to drive C>and you will fin the folder Cygwin-packages>so select that folder and click ok>next.
e.now it will extract the folders>a promt is going to pop up..>click ok
f.now you will see a list>go to the first line and you will see next to the word ALL ,two arrows>click on them so all files can be installed.
g.now it will install the program whick take from 5-10min.
h.when its done …select finish.
i.you can now delete the setup file and Cygwin-packages folder.
j.now enter the Cygwin program and it will create some files..>when its done exit the program….
Now Cygwin program is done installing .
3.To use the kitchen:
a.Enter Cygwin folder>home>your user name>so you will find 3 files
b.in the same folder>extract the kitchen zip file(Android-Kitchen-master.zip)
c.now enter the kitchen folder>you will find a folder called>put rom here.
d.so in that folder>either put a rom.zip file or put a system.img file if you want complete stock…..(which you get from the ruu of your phone)
e.now enter tools folder>edifly_......(something like that) and see if you mount points are in it…
f.to know go to your build.prop file>check ro.product.device>and if you see a txt file under the name of your device …..your device is supported…
g.if NOT,go to the original thread …where the dev has stated a way on how to add your device…..
Now we are done from the setup of the kitchen…..
To use the kitchen:
1.Enter Cygwin
2.type
a.cd kitchen>press enter
b. ./menu>press enter
Now a list of options will come infront of you ……
3.go to the option>setup working folder>enter its number and press enter…
4.now if you go to Cygwin folder >enter home>user name>kitchen.
5.you will find a folder called(working folder_8254897)
NOW YOU ARE DONE WITH SETTING UP THE KITCHEN……AND YOU CAN START PLAYING WITH THE ROM
PART 2:Clearing up the options
Explanation for each option:
1.creates you a working folder, which extracts the rom for you.
2. It gives you super user access aka SU, Some apps require root to work properly….so if your rom isn’t rooted … it’ll be useless.
3. Busy Box is something that you install on your phone to give you some additional handy LINUX / UNIX based commands. You need Busy Box installed because some commands are not available to you and you made need them for some root level tasks.
4.To disable sounds while phone is booting
5.To add you a tethering app…..and allow you do wireless tethering
6. Zipalign is an archive alignment tool. It optimizes the way an app is packaged. Doing so enables the operating system to interact with the application more efficiently, and has the potential to make the application and overall the whole system much faster. Execution time is minimized for zipaligned applications, resulting in a lower amount of RAM consumption when running the app.
7.If you want the rom to do a FULL WIPE while installing the rom
8.To change the name of the rom
9.Checks if the update script contains any errors….because if it did the rom wont be installed correctly, which may lead to a brick
10.To see all information about your rom..ex: if you have root access/if you aren’t using stock kernel/if you have app2sd support etc..
11. Apk files have respective odexes that devs use to supposedly save space. Deodexing means you convert it back to a .dex file and put it back inside the apk. This allows you to easily replace files (not having to worry about odexes), but the main point was to deodex services.jar so that you can change all text to different colors (such as the clock color to white) and to deodex services.jar, you need to deodex everything.
12.To add a task killer….which closes applications to free RAM
13.To add a /data/app folder so applications could be installed their rather than getting installed in system/app
14.To add text editor…for ex.if you want to edit build.prop or any txt file which is in system.
15.To add a command shell which allows you to use in in the terminal
16.To give the option of moving applications to sd card
17. To add /etc/init.d scripts support ….which allow you to add tweaks and stuff for the phone
18.To allow user to put the boot-animation that he desires.
19.To be able to extract the boot.img(kernel)
20.To extract data.img (which I don’t know what it is )
21.check this (http://developer.android.com/tools/publishing/app-signing.html)
22.To covert update script to updater script which is a must before you build the rom.
99.To build the rom when you finish editing and modding.
PART 3:How to mod apks
OK SO NOW SINCE YOU KNOW WHAT EACH OPTION DOES…..LETS START MODDING,and to start customizing, you have to use an apk extractor and zipper because the apks contain all the treasure …..for example:SystemUI.apk(contains battery icons ,signal icons, the location of the clock and many many more things)
So what were gonna use is apk manager, which is an very easy program to use,and helps a lot in apk extracting and zipping and signing.
Here are the steps to use it:
1.Extract the zip file(apk manager)
2.youll find a file called setup>enter it and select option 3 and press enter.
3.folders will be created
4.so to extract an apk>select an apk file and drop it into the folder (put apk here)
5.go into script file>press enter file>and after you’ve put the apk file in the specified folder>select option 2 >so the apk will be extracted
6.after you extract it you will find the extracted files it in the same folder(put apk here) in a new folder under the name of the apk file.
7.edit whatever you want
8.When you finish >select option 3>press enter.
9.then select option 5 and 6 to sign and zipalign the apk…..
And your done ,but to find the modded apk…..go into place apk here for signing and you will find it there.

Hey dude/*****.....
Me again and loving yr tutorial. But do have a couple of questions that I hope you can help with.
Firstly the update version of Cygwin menu is not exactly as yours in the tutorial. Why is the allow Tethering function not there and could this be a problem.
Secondly i am nooooooB and are unsure on how to add remove system apk's from rom. Do I just dig in and delete them from windows. And can I pull apk's from another rom to put into the data app folder which was created using Cygwin.
I was wanting to add aroma installer as well but another story....
Really appreciate if you can advise. If I sound to noooobish then understrand that I am to much work.

Ayyy take it easy cun*
I'll update the tutorial because I made it from a long time and posted it now
For the apks you just enter the rom.zip system>app and you'll find all the apks there..
The data folder cygwin creates is that when you use the Rom ..the apps won't be installed in system>app anymore, they will be installed the folder the kitchen created data
And for the aroma installer, leave it for later ...your still not ready for it ...
no signature....problem ?!?!?!

I was going to ask you about signature but didnt want to over do it. I am guessing you need to sign it after the 99 - Build ROM from working folder?
I have proceed with the Build rom and are at the recomend to sign rom stage. Its some thing I dont understand. Is it ok to proceed without?
Cool I have noticed the roms produced by dev's here xda are not signed so doesnt seem to matter for this purpose. I have hit thx ***** 5 or 6 times.
I will hit 500 s****y if you give share some knowledge in installing arroma installer. or do you recomend just trying things....cheers anyway its been awsome.....:good:

Wifi Tethering on GB27 rooted without flashing?

Is it possible to have WIFI tethering on GB27 rooted without having to flash it in? I have the stock but rooted GB27 on my Sprint Epic 4G touch and would like to occasionally tether my tablet to my phone mobile data.
I did some research in the forum but haven't found one that did not require flashing it in and I have had trouble in the past with this way of installing it.

Hi. When you say you've had trouble in the past, do you mean with crawrj's hotspot mod, or is flashing anything in recovery the problem? I only ask because if you're not comfortable doing anything in recovery, I wouldn't want to suggest other root actions really, because I'd always preface by saying to make a backup... And if you're not comfortable making a backup, I would be concerned about your modifying system files to begin with. Not saying this for any reason other than caution, bud... making a backup and flashing tested mods are your safest approach.
If you must:
I need to be clear that you make any system file changes with a risk, minimized by making a backup first.
What the flashable mod does is replace two small, important files in your framework folder. (Make a backup first?)
Download the correct mod. It will be a zip file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1879140
Don't extract the zip, but dig into this folder: system\framework\.
There are only two jar files in there. You need to copy them into the corresponding folder in the file system on your phone. So copy the services.jar and wimax.jar you just got from that zip and paste them into system\framework\ folder on your phone. You'd do this using a root browser such as ROM Toolbox or ES File Explorer.Paste those two jar files into the framework folder. Long press on each and verify/change the permissions to be 0677 (or RW-R--R--). Reboot.
Thanks for the option and advice. I used to flash my Nexus phone all the time with no troubles but ever since I came to the Epic 4G Touch I have had issues in flashing. A couple times I came close to a hard brick. I am used to using root explorer or ES File Explorer and could easily backup those two files. Since settling into GB27 I should probably look again at putting AGAT's recovery on my phone. I will look at the info in your link.

How to mod custom ROM ?

Hello, I was browsing through Desire ROM section and found Marius.a ROM which I liked , apart from its phone dialer ,that not good for me as I like MIUI dialer. I wonder is it possible to mix apps from different ROMs. So I need some guide how to mod a ROM.
Basicaly ( as far as I understand) there are two processes :
1. How can I extract application from ROM ? Is it only a matter of extracting the apk file from the source ROM and putting it in the targer ROM? or there is some extra work to be done?
2.How can I edit the ROM zip and replace the dialer ( and other applications if needed) and have a ROM that will work?.
I will appreciate any help .
Double click (do not extract) the ROM.zip with 7zip
Then try drag / drop between ROM.zips. There's no guarantee it will work with all apps. In fact with dialer there is more risk as it's a core system app. No harm in trying though. As always, have a nandroid backup before you flash.
Your modified ROM.zip must also fit into whatever hboot you have, in other words the extracted /system size of the ROM.zip must be less than the hboot's /system size.
I've posted about it before here, have a look

Nope. All applications in the /system folder will be installed as system apps.
