[Q] Buy SGN or HTC One X - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is rumored to be coming to Sprint on April 15 but the HTC One X is also rumored to becoming to Sprint in Q2.
The One X is better in over all performance (PCMAG)
What do you guys think? Should I wait till Q2?

Well Q2 starts in 10 days. So you don't have long to wait
But seriously, this is a personal call. What do you think the people in the Galaxy Nexus Forum are going to tell you to get? You won't get a straight answer here lol. Same goes for the One X Forum. You have to decide whether having a Nexus is more important, or having better hardware specs is more important. Most people come to the Nexus for stock ICS and/or great hack-ability. They come here to get away from Sense. They won't want the One X to begin with.

You bring up very good points. I have had CM7 and now CM9-beta on the photon4g I'm using to replace my evo3d that got "lost" and I forgot how fast non-sense roms are. I miss it. I miss my Nexus One and CM on my Evo4g and Evo3d lol. I miss how smooth and fast it was and how I was able to customize everything to my liking. That's like +3 for the SGN. lol
Don't you think CM will come to the One series?

Barring it being impossible to do (locked bootloader), it is almost guaranteed (at some point) that CM will come to the One series of phones...

Ok, jokes aside, you are not helping yourself by simply asking which phone to get. We don't know you; we don't know what you like and we don't know what you want your phone to do.

lol, did y'all see the press release on engadget. the HTC One X might be revealed on April 4th.
I dunno, I could see myself picking the One X for processing power alone (im a bit of a heavy user) but at the same time I could see the slimness of the ICS stock on the SGN being so fast. But that won't even matter sooner or later with all these more powerful devices coming out.
I don't know.

Doesn't the U.S. version of the onex only have a duel core in it? If I'm right I don't see it beeping any better then the gn.

Something like that. Probably don't want to buy from AT&T.
sent from my Terran Command Center.

SGN will always be the first to get updates from Google. So if you want a phone that will always be on top as far as software updates, the SGN is the obvious choice. Although hardware wise, the HTC One X is the s**t

one x its just a beast, but i never liked htc phones, lame soft support compared to a nexus.

The HTC one X is gonna be fantastic!

I'm just so excited about this phone. I'm coming from a galaxy note and a galaxy s 2 before that, both amazing phones. I'm sure the Galaxy SIII is gonna be insane, but i really like what HTC is doing with the one brand. By HTC making the one X their flagship phone, they will give it a LOT of support, it will be one of the first devices to get android Jelly bean after the next nexus. And the dev community is gonna be awesome I can already smell it. And last but not least the hardware of this phone will make this device future proof. I personally don't mind the non removable battery and 32gig is more than enough on my PHONE. Let's GOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

I don't know if it matters wether its future proof or not, seeing that u had an s2 then a note

Cool no worries.

I was ONE click away from the One X but...

I chose the galaxy nexus. And I'm very very very excited. At the end of the day you just have to be happy with your purchase. When the galaxy nexus first came out, I was like wow I want this phone so bad but I couldn't justify buying it since I had a galaxy s 2. Then I wanted a galaxy note but deep inside I really wanted a nexus but went for the note. Loved it a lot! Then sold it to get the One X buy deep in side again the nexus man I'm telling you I had to have it and I was one click away to buy the one x but then I went with my gut feeling and bought the nexus. I think I'm destined to have this phone after all this time. I'm so excited, I could care less about specs right now. I'm planning on getting the Galaxy s 3 when it comes out also and I'll keep both but I think the nexus is a must have. Very excited to say the least. WINNING!!!!!!!!!!! Splash!
nice, however if i was you i would have bought the one X today. sure the Gnex is awesome but its about 6 months old already and the one x would have been a better purchase

Well it is newer, and it is better. I would rather have the One X, as long as it's unlockable/rootable and I could put stock ICS on it. Then it would be a very awesome phone. As we've seen from the Galaxy S (and even the Galaxy Nexus actually), having a Nexus phone doesn't even mean you get updates first and/or in a timely fashion anymore.

Except that when Jelly Bean comes out...we will have it and it will not.
Most people upgrade their devices to get the latest OSes. HTC devices are stagnant.
So that point is moot.

Having to jump through loops to unlock/root it and not having a pure stock ICS ROM available for download is a pretty big point not making it better in my book.
Sure it looks nice, build quality seems very good, too. Quadcore is probably not yet the wisest choice for a smartphone, as it is not really necessary and eats a LOT of battery.
Just because we had to wait a few months for the update this time also doesn't mean it will be always like this in the future.
First gen dual cores blew.
First gen anything has issues. Time will tell with quads, but it will not even remotely shock me if issues show up.

And then the devs struggle to figure out how to get AOSP to work on the phone while they wait for manufacturer's source: the months of waiting for AOSP to be (fully) functional on a non-Nexus device are enough to turn me off "upgrading" no matter how good a phone looks. The fluke/perfect storm of getting AOSP to run so easily on the SGS likely will never happen again.

And it wasn't easy at all for the Fascinate. jt1134 had hell with that device. I know you were speaking of GSM devices, but I figured I would toss that in there because anything CDMA or LTE is going to be 50-100% longer than it takes the GSM counterpart.

Well, Just bought myself a Galaxy Nexus

Finally. I ordered a Galaxy from EBay and now I have to wait 5-6 days for it to come. So I was wondering what has happened in the Galaxy Nexus community.
Oh I got the Sprint Galaxy Nexus (Toroplus I believe)
Also I was wondering if there were any good fast and stable Jellybean Roms.
So glad to become part of the Nexus Family.

Make the switch, you won't regret it. The specs on the Nexus are not only better (aside from camera and lack of sd slot) but development is light years ahead of the Amaze. There will of course be a new Nexus in the next 3-4 months, but it won't be $350 that's for sure. I came from an Amaze, and a T-Mo S2 and don't regret it one bit.

ugggghhh its just so irritating. they release phones with awesome specs but then you cant developed for it....
i hate it when people say "oh we'll get the latest update from cyanogen xx.xx...."
which is BULL****... considering half the time cyanogen wont ever be as refined or close to being complete on said device considering the lack of kernel source/lack of support from the manufacture... people buying non nexus devices are just being delusional. i have come to that conclusion. maybe manufacturers need to beef up the specs of their nexus device in the upcoming years
i believe the only non nexus device that i believed had a blossoming of development is the T-mobile G2\htc vision (i personally had that phone and had lots of fond moments flashing roms in)

Have to disagree with you on the "blossoming of development" part.
Have had the captivate. Which to this day. Is still going strong. And had a jellybean port before the gs3.
I had the epic touch 4g and the att gs2. Which are both still amazing phones going strong. And I am now onto the gs3 which isn't even 2 months old. (U.S release) and the number of ROMs and support for it is overwhelming.

I actually am getting a nexus on Tuesday, coming from a Droid Incredible which has working ports of - Jelly Bean, Ice Cream Sandwich and Sense 4.
Its a device that won't die with great devs still, sense 3.5 roms were last developed by Newt/Joelz/Wildstang/Puremotive.
We had an amazing dev and community spot, its dying down as others are upgrading.

High development and seems to be a great and strong community plus the nexus will be my second android phone.
I don't wanna say the nexus is the pinnacle of android phones per-say but its the one fellow nerd lovers and rioters alike will rejoice in a happy community thanks to Google and Samsung.

+1 on that bro, I can't wait for it to be here. And for fun's sake I even spent all night watching an Unboxing video. The only time I have ever touched the Galaxy nexus was in a Sprint store. I looked at the Gnex Screen, then back at mine. Mine looked ****ty compared to the Galaxy Nexus' Gorgeous Screen Resolution. It looked so beautiful. Messed with the UI and felt so smooth. And that was ICS. They say Jellybean is 5x Better than ICS. The moment I get the phone I'll root it and install a good JB Rom.

Of course you should root! The development is astounding I personally have spent many hours molding and tweaking mine and loved every minute of it. We have some of the best and most generous devs in the world

buy a new smart phone

Hi friends
now i have htc hd2 and i want to buy a new phone, and now the two handset doubt one x and nexus 4. If you help me?
Compare them on internet, go to a phone store and put them next to eachother. Decide which fits you the most.
This is a personal opinion. Nobody can decide what phone you should buy.
You can add HTC one in that list as well.
If you want fast updates and good custom ROM support, go for the N4.
HTC is not particularly good with those two areas.
This is not a personal opinion, it's a fact.
Sent from my One X using xda premium
I used to use a HTC HD2 from 2009 Nov, still have my hd2 in good working condition. Upgraded to HTC OneX in 2012 April.. no regrets yet.
I'm not sure about N4, pardon my ignorance.. but I do have friends with latest android devices from samsung/ motorola etc. I always do get the most awesome roms/tweaks/themes thanks to the wonderful community at XDA.
I personally love Sense and HTC One X lets you run the latest Sense with its full glory without any lags, if you ask me having an option to run Sense is itself worth selecting HOX over N4, you can always switch back to AOSP if you ever dislike it.
Additionally the image sense chip on HOX is awesome.. I can always vouch that I get the best pic with my slim mobile
Only the single issue with HOX is it doesn't have S-Off yet, that means once you unlock, no way of going back to a state where you can proof that you haven't unlocked your phone. That might be the only reason, why my next device might not be a HTC. But honestly, I'll miss sense.

Samsung/Sony next for me...
Really want one of the new xperia's !! TAKE IT IN THE BATH !!!
Apart from nexus devices, most carrier upgrades leave a lot to be desired timescale-wise. Wouldn't recommend sony for quick upgrades, or customer service(talking from experience...).
It's fairly straightforward though. There are no high-end phones from 2012/13 that will disappoint performance wise so try them out and see which you prefer.
samsung has maybe faster updates, problem is they are so bad that instead of that i wait some weeks more for htc updates and get best out of the phones htc is still the best in all
As a nexus owner I can say that nexus experience is unparalleled. It represents absolute customizability and control over how you want your device to be. Then again HTC and Sammy has better cameras, possibly better displays. You can calibrate nexus 4 display and make it look as good or better than one x or s3.
Ultimately like the previous comments I'd suggest try before you buy.

one x display is the best which was know where seen before...also the n4 can't be better as the one x screen...and s3 screen is bad like sh*t from a dog with unlocked bootloader we can also customize our phones like we want...but only if we knew what we are doing like for the n4
I am using One X now and will upgrade to another HTC phone because the company is in a bad condition financially and I want to support the it. If HTC hoes bankrupt where else would you get skins as good as sense I don't wanna live with crapwiz stock android is good and fast but it gets boring pretty quickly sense is fast too and beautiful.

Only the single issue with HOX is it doesn't have S-Off yet, that means once you unlock, no way of going back to a state where you can proof that you haven't unlocked your phone. That might be the only reason, why my next device might not be a HTC. But honestly, I'll miss sense.

I have returned my one x twice under warranty with just flashing a nandroid of stock and relocking the bootloader. Device shown the security alert but no questions asked. First for the WiFi squeeze issue for which they fixed and replaced the back case. Looked brand new. Then I just fastbooted the unlock token and rooted again. Second return for signal / no imei number for which I got a new motherboard. Both jobs took 5 days - send and return. Very pleased with customer service of HTC. I'm in UK if that makes any difference.
AW: buy a new smart phone
What you like to pay for a One X? Getting a replacement in 2 days Form Vodafone and like to sell it.

HTC One X won’t receive any further updates

So guys finally its official:
HTC OneX and OneX + will not receive any further updates.
Its officially announced by HTC now.
"We can confirm that the HTC One X and One X+ will not receive further Android OS updates beyond Android 4.2.2 with Sense 5. We realize this news will be met with disappointment by some, but our customers should feel confident that we have designed both devices to be optimized with our amazing camera and audio experiences. -HTC"
Update: the only HTC One X variant that will be updated to Android 4.3 is the HTC EVO 4G LTE on Sprint.

The guys at pocketnow mentioned it too. Kinda sad but I don't care that much as I would use CM11 instead of the Sense KitKat anyways.
But this just confirmed what I expected and so this will definitely be my last HTC device. Too bad I liked the build quality.
Nexus 5 here I come <3

Well. Its a quad core it could not handle android 4.4. Wait cm is running great. Well they would need a big team to update to kk. Wait thomy updated to cm kk all by himself.
All these just proves that htc did not learn anything. thought they could be it you know the company that cares trying to give out the best for the lowest price and keep it updated as long as possible. Instead they are just like everybody else.
My dad bought a samsung tv today. It could not run the youtube app no matter what. I called samsung and they said it is not a problem from their side but from the developers of the app. Ok so f off and tnx for false advertisement (for 2 months). Then the wifi would not work. Called them again they said if it isnt 5m from the router (visual distance) it wont work. Which actually means hey you have a really crappy wifi chip so thats how we protect ourselves so we dont need to replace it.
Dont know where im going with it? I think that if we dont stand up to the industry and demand changes like i dont know a htc xda program for example or everyone slaps ceo of samsung for everytime youtube wont start, we are going to end up in a ditch from where we will not be able to come out. For christ sake i cant even connect a htc phone to a samsung tv anymore. And that should be normal???
Sorry bad day big rant but i am worried.

the OEM will only update if the SoC manufacturer is updaeting and still supporting the SoC...so because nvidia won't update our kernel htc wouldn't update too ...and to fix most issues we need newer kernel from them,..atleast 3.4.x so that really ALL will work fine with sense and even without...really bulls'it

Its a hard lesson learnt, only buy Qualcomm based chipset phones from now on. nVidia gives fancy names to their chipsets, however they are pathetic when it comes to supporting their chipset.
I think it has to do with HTC also.. Dont blame just nvidia. if HTC wanted they could have updated the phone as fas as i know. Thomy's ROM is working fine on hox and so does slimkat. Why don't HTC discuss it out with nvidia and both could have worked hard to give an update.
But see they both (HTC and nvidia) dont give support to old devices and try to work hard on throwing new devices every then and now. If they would have worked that hard (or even less than that) on giving support to hox, it might be a good decision..
Hox is a solid performing device which HTC d#tched early..

I bought this device to HTC, not to Nvidia. It is HTC responsability to update it.
Google nexus 7 has the same tegra3, and is perfectly working with kit kat.
First months, HTC also gives lots of updates to the oneX, saying they had changed its updating politic. Now, they said this. To bad, HTC. This is my 5th device, and I cant give you anoother chance anymore. I love all of my HTC phones, but this is my last one.

But on the other hand, they're really working hard to quickly update the One. It even has kitkat. The only thing HTC currently needs is more money to provide support to older devices...

The only giveaway on how htc will handle updates is when the new phone comes out. Our hox was perfectly supported till the one came out dont you remember?
And thomy did the update to kk all by himself so i dont think money is the problem here.

It's not enough to look good for the first year until the next device comes out and then suddenly drop almost all support. What happened with the Desire models, Sensation models and now HOX models will also happen to the One when the next "flagship" is announced.

They sure as hell aren't getting that money from me.
I see a main cause that HTC decided to not update our phone anymore in the fact that 90% of the users of a phone are just the basic users, who just leave everything on their phone as it was delivered. Only thing I see my friends changing on their Android phones are the wallpaper and their app shortcuts. Some of them change their widgets, some don't. And out of my whole circle of friends I am the only one who knows what a custom ROM is and what the most up to date Android version is. So why should HTC Update our device any further if the only people really concerning about these updates are "those geeks over at xda developers". If things were the other way around and 90% of the HOX owners around the world would trample HTCs HQ for not updating our phone and would take the same step as me and were not going to buy any other HTC phone anymore they would sure as hell update it to KK.
But as people dont do so, why should they update it.
The thing is that old versions of Android also mean more security concerns and possible app compatability issues in the future. Things like this are a concern for the average user and not so much us who know how to tinker with custom roms.
And my friends who have Android phones and who I'd call average users complain about lack of upgrades just as much as me. They still want their phones to have the newest features, up to date looks and all that. HTC being so horrible with updates means that people recognize then as a company with lack of support. And people don't pay hundreds of dollars/euros for just more than one years worth of support.

It's not like that. You don't see Samsung or Motorola not updating their old devices just because 90% of the users don't complain.
Samsung is going to update S3 to kitkat. and motorola has already confirmed that old devices are receiving kitkat. those devices don't even have large user base like that of HOX.
