[Q] grey signal on AOKP M4? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

i just flashed it today and i noticed that the signal bars turn grey if im NOT connected to wifi or data.. works fine tho just doesnt look good!!

Well if you're not connected to either WiFi or Data, then you're not connected to Google and for that reason the bars are grey.
Normal behavior if I'm understanding your statement correctly.

OH REALLY!!?? aww. it looks much better blue thanks

I mean, this is a feature of ICS, as well as GB. The bars go grey when you're not connected.

[Q] signal status bar showing wrong on 3G??

Hi there, just notice ,if network pick HUPSA,everything seams to be fine, but if switch to 3G mode, signal status bar almost always showing full 4 lines even in places, where is very low reception..??anyone has a same experience??
thanks
Yes i too have this problem.
Me too. It doesn't bother me too much though, but it would still be nice to have a fix for it.

Reception signal LED

Hello guys,
Can somebody help me with something. In the past I used an old Ericssson phone which gave me an indication of a connected network/operator signal through a blinking LED on top of the phone.
At the moment i'm using a HTC Desire and it only lights up whenever you receive a text message/mail/etc..
Does anybody knows if there is an app which will tell me via the blinking LED on the front that I have a network/operator signal connection??
Thanks in advance!
Jeroen
Somebody?
Do you mean you want a bliking light when you have a wifi network available?? If so, in settings you can set a notification for when there's an open network in range and though i'm not 100% sure, probably also a blinking led!
If not, there are many led control apps on the market, some very customizable, maybe you can find one that suits you!
No, I mean the light at the front of the phone, which you will see go flicker as soon as you get an email/sms/low battery etc...the light on the left of the htc logo....
Thanks anyway
Somebody??

Hi EasySR,
thnx for your help. Actually this program won't allow me to do that...only notifications from apps but not for your reception signal....
I hv been using 'LED me know' for a long time with my unrooted Desire with official froyo without issues. But it has no option to use for that purpose.

Sorry, but I'm not 100% sure what you are asking for?
Are you looking for the LED to flash when you are connected to the network, because surely you have signal most of them time thus, the LED will be blinking pretty much all the time. Or do you want it to indicate when your phone is sending data via your mobile phone network?
i think hes looking for the LED to tell him how strong his connection is to his phone company. I have no idea exactly how that would work with a blinking LED. Would it be blinking really fast or just stay on when you have a good signal? Seems like a waste of battery when you can just turn on the screen and see how many bars you get.

Hi Guys,
No, it's not specifically that. I mean, I'm looking for an app which will tell me if I have a signal with my operator, like the good old ericsson phones and even right now the blackberry's have. That led will blink every second:
here's an example (from a Blackberry phone):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbYZFH-0v-c
Hope you now understand what I mean.....it's just a blinking led which will tell me that I have coverage...
Thanks anyways for helping me out!
Nobody else sharing the same thoughts like I have???
I can see what you want, but not why.
You can see signal strength from the lock screen, and the LED is there to alert you to messages (SMS etc)
Not sure why you would want this. I assume you have reception all the time?
p.s Nice name

Hi Lunatic2!!
thnx for yr reply. I usually have reception all the time, but sometimes my signal drops or even no signal at all, (Tmobile/Ben network is bad) so for me it's quite useful....I think it would benifit to all of us, because it saves us from turning on yr device, and just have a quick look at our status LED
haha thnx for yr comment....It's just a random name hahaha
actually we, Desire owners (like other smartphone users as well), are suffering from battery time and such an app that you want to have is an app that will drain your battery constantly, therefore hard to understand why this is so important as long as it is just a button press away (power/unlock button) to see the reception level.

Hi iLHaNroID,
thanks for your reply. I do agree that we suffer battery drain with our Desires, but do you really think the blinking LED will drain out battery that fast?? I hardly think so anyway, but hey, that's my opinion I do like the fact that you're thinking with me, and I still hope some more people join my question
cheers!
Jeroen
I remember the flashing green led on my old Ericsson phones, so I know what you mean.
You can do something similar to what you want using Tasker.
Just create a profile based on "State > Signal Strength 0-8", and make the action "Alert > Notify LED"
That will put an alert in the notification bar and flash the LED whenever the phone has a signal. You could easily extend this so that it flashes green when you have a signal, and red when you don't.
Worth noting that the LED only lights when the screen is off - I think thats a Desire limitation.
If you don't have Tasker already you can get a 7 day trial from the devs website and see if it works for you.
Regarding reception signal
You can download Lightflow from market, it can change the led color, for almost all kinds of informations..
Ex.sms, email, twitter, facebook, low power, no signal etc..
It works perfect for me

Ways to improve wifi?

I mean is this as good as its gonna get? I got it set to 2.4ghz. Bluetooth off. It still sucks, I can barely go outside of my house without dropping my connection. My iPod and evo3d would go to the edges of my yard and then some. Same at work. IPod (first gen) streams all day long without a hiccup. I can be right next to it with my gn and if I do get a connection it is very short lived.
Are there any kernals or rooms that can help with this? Anything else I can try?
You can try franco.kernel, the control app has an option to increase wifi strength.

Thanks I might give it a try. Wanna make sure its not an issue with the phone before I root
Maybe the Widget, called in the first post in this thread will help...
The franco.kernel option works also very well for me.

It may not be want but I would still like to let you know phones are small so they can never get the same Wi-Fi signal strength like computers do.

I know. But my evo3d and my iPod both maintain wifi where my gn will not.
I don't believe the Franco.kernel will give you better wifi signal.. I believe it's only keeping the wifi from entering low power mode when the screen is off. Hence it saying "useful for streaming media with the screen off".
There is no rom/kernel combination for a wifi deficiency, sorry OP :/

Good to know. Thanks
Just some input here...
I have a Droid X.
And my Laptop.
And my GNex.
All connected to the same wireless router.
I just jumped into my car (where I've streamed netflix before...as I smoked a cig) while parked in the street...same spot as always.
Laptop holds "weak" signal here.
Droid X: One bar.
GNex: One bar.
(All three devices are connected to the same extent that I'd expect them to be)
MAYBE you're radio is faulty.
Maybe not. It's hard to say.
I read somewhere that setting your 5Ghz band router settings to a channel below 48 could help eleviate some connection issues.
Gonna try this myself when I get back home since I´m having a very hard time connecting to my 5Ghz band.
But perhaps experiment with changing channels on the 2.4Ghz band could help? If you have access to the router perhaps give it a go. Might help, might not.
Is there anyway to force roam? When it roams at work I can browse the internet just fine. Problem is it goes between roam and sprint, when on sprint I get no data connection in the building

Thats why i suggest the Widget - it keep the wifi from entering low power mode.
Btw.: there is a "Thanks" button, who can be pressed...
Well I've turned airplane mode on and back off. Seems to be working good now lol

Wireless Signal and Netflix

Hi Guys,
I have noted that when using Netflix on the One V that the WiFi signal seems to improve by 2 bars, can we replicate this and boost the WiFi signal in apps other than Netflix. or is it just an illusion.
Cheers Steve

just an illusion dude, im going to assume your not holding your phone at the bottom when your watching netflix, this is the reason why your not having issues...it's one of our many faults unfortunately

Thanks for that, My connection kept dropping out when held vertically but always watched Netflix in Horizontal mode. Will now use all WiFi tasks in
Horizontal mode...
Again Thanks.

Signal strength bar not showing anything.

So this is now the third ROM I have been on, and the problem is the same. I get 3G, H+ and those kind of signal info in the top navigation bar. But no matter where I am or what I do. There is never any bars showing in the signal. It is a minor problem but a bit annoying still. Anyone have a good idea of why this happens?
