CDMA vs GSM - HTC Wildfire S

Please talk here about GSM and CDMA:

What would you like to know? GSM phones have SIM cards, CDMA do not.

He doesn't need any advice, there are some guys flooding his rom thread with a fight about which is better, that's why he opened this one.
But thx anyway

Its pretty harsh really. From what info I've gathered the CDMA WFS is easy to S-Off, no XTC-Clip needed, but then harder to code custom ROMs for or something like that so they get less options. Brilliant idea by HTC[sarcasm].
It's like, they dangling a carrot in front of CDMA users but inside the carrot is super-aids! Not cool HTC, not cool at all!
Anyone know if there are any other advantages to the CDMA version other than you can S-Off without the Clip. Does not having a Sim-Card make any big difference? GSM/CDMA for battery life?

I have a cdma phone and I heard its slightly smaller than the gsm so we need smaller cases

What I've always wondered is - do CDMA owners have a choice before they buy? If so, why didn't they go for the GSM option?

No, Verizon and Sprint are only CDMA carriers. They do not offer a GSM service.

How pathetic. That explains a lot now. (I never knew why Sprint & Verizon & At&T had their own models).

Very good to know.

Anyway, to sum things up:
GSM = Good Sized Mobile
CDMA = Crazy Diabolical Massive Android

US Cellular HTC Desire converted to a GSM phone?

Could someone answer a novice question for me? I'm kind of confused.
Can I get an (unlocked) HTC Desire originally from Alltel or US Cellular (CDMA) and convert it to a GSM phone (for T-mobile)? If so, is rooting required?
Thanks a lot.
No, different hardware.
You would have to find a suitable CDMA antenna, and even then it probably wouldn't work properly. Carrier is differentiated, for the most part, by the phones physical antenna. That's what dictates which carriers network the phone will work with.

Thanks. I think the CDMA version does not even have a SIM slot.

Verizon to T-Mobile

So I have the CDMA Verizon version of the GNEX and I was wondering if I can unlock it to work with T-Mobile, I know I'll probably have to cut my sim but what else do I need to do to accomplish this? Can anyone point me to a guide or something ? Thanks guys

No it will not work.

Not gonna happen - Verizon is CDMA and T-Mobile is GSM. Different radio bands, different cell technology, etc.

What they said. You can however sell your Verizon Nexus and buy an unlocked GSM one. That's the route I went.
How many times must this be answered
It won't work. Just sell yours and pony up a few extra $$ for the difference to buy a GSM model.
Just curious, but were your CDMA GNex's having problems? I've tried about 4 of them (via VZW customer replacement policy) and keep having one way audio dropouts. This combined with Google's decision to remove CDMA devices from AOSP support has me thinking of selling mine and getting the GSM version.
If I may, how much were you guys able to recoup by selling them? Is there a market for these CDMA versions?

On the XDA marketplace the CDMA Nexus is going for $400-$450. You could probably expect about the same on Craigslist. I have the GSM and got it for $565. As far as your bad handsets, it sounds like you have just been unlucky. I wouldn't sell just because of Google dropping AOSP support. I don't think it will affect the Galaxy Nexus very much if at all, and it is still going to be the most dev'd phone on Verizon. I do think it will affect future Nexus devices making their way to Verizon though.

My statement is 100% true.
"No CDMA devices are supported." and "Galaxy Nexus is supported only in GSM/HSPA+ configuration "maguro"..." via http://source.android.com/source/building-devices.html
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/02/07/google_android_cdma/
http://slatedroid.info/2012/02/google-clarifies-cdma-debacle-still-supporting-developer-phones-not-publishing-aosp-code/
And while this decision may or may not have repercussions for us down the road, it still doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling

Will that change any of the specs, unlocking it? Since it's not intended for verizon's network

I found this on Google in less than 20 seconds...
Thinking of unlocking a Verizon Wireless LTE phone for use on AT&T's network, or vice versa? Think again. Verizon Wireless confirmed today that its LTE phones will not "be compatible on other LTE networks in the U.S." because "the phones will be on different frequencies," according to Verizon spokeswoman Brenda Raney.

Can you guys get to the Phone Info screen with the radio menu's? I heard they were taking that out of Sense 4.0, but if not this might be worth looking into. Rezound dev's have it working on GSM now with S-Off running MIUI, If this phone has "hidden" CDMA radios we could have a lot of cross platform dev's without them all having the same phones.

It doesn't. Nor does it have LTE. thus phone will never work on Verizon save someone opening it themselves and transplanting some CDMA radios into it using sorcery.

The AT&T model won't work on Verizon either. The Rezound is a world phone that's why it works on GSM.
Nice insult though.

GSM on Verizon Galaxy Nexus???

trying to get a Verizon Galaxy Nexus to work with a T-Mobile sim card
is it possible? what are the steps?
thanks in advance
No
Sent From My Toro+ via RED Tapatalk
The steps are:
1. Put T-Mobile GSM SIM card into your CDMA/LTE only phone
2. Cry and wet your pants because it didn't work.
just to be clear, tmobile uses gsm technology and verizon uses cdma. those two are different so they are not interchangeable.
Step 1: sell your Verizon Galaxy Nexus
Step 2: buy a GSM Galaxy Nexus.

thanks for the explanation
This isn't a dumb question BTW... There are several CDMA phones that support gsm .. Rezound for example... No need to be cruel

Arrrrrghhhh!!!! I may have to go with the I-phone 5...barf ...why oh why don't these phones have that option? I understand Sprint is CDMA, but it should no be that darn difficult to include the GSM (Sim card) option for those of us who travel.

quit complaining. if you need a cdma/gsm phone then go buy a motorola photon or some crap. better yet. get an isheep. that way we never see you again. you'll never see cdma and gsm together on one of those.
