I'm not sure if it was Shazam, Soundhound or Musicjunk, but I've recently installed a program from the market and afterwards about once a day get a message in my notification bar pointing to a software like "badoo" (I think) that I don't want to download.
What is the best way to find and remove an unwanted source of notifications?

AirPush Detector

I get this little green + sign on my task bar that leads me to some site thevalidatecheck.com, it has happened a couple of times and I have yet to figure out how this advertisement gets there.
When I drag down the title bar to look and see what it is, it sais on there to Opt out, that's as far as I can see, so I click on it, and it takes me to this site.
At that site they want your phone number to claim a free ipad.
Here's the question, does anyone else have this, and if so what does it come from and how do I remove it.
I did not pay hundreds of dollars and monthly internet fee's to get someone's ad's on my phone.
I started getting them when I downloaded certain apps. The little ads were annoying enough. I deleted said app and it all went away. Can't remember what apps were causing it but if you uninstall your most recents then you should he able to narrow it down.

OK, I got this problem taken care of today.
I guess someone came up with a program that developers can use called airpush
and this is what was causing the ads on my title bar.
Obviously a new update, the program that I had installed and was using was Droid blocker, it's a program for blocking calls with blocked numbers.
After doing some reading I ended up with a highly recommended program caller Airpush Detector, now I no longer have the ads
Airpush apps should be flagged.
Hopefully this will help someone else.
I've contracted spyware that no program is picking up. I get a message about being a winner in my status and notification that link me to some scammer site.

Need more info like what were u doing before it started, what app or apps did you dl shortly b4, did you post your # to any kind of online ad etc? If we can narrow down what may have been infected we might be able to root it out and kill it for you

You could check what services are running on memory and killing whichever seems out of place (Settings > Applications > Running services). The obvious option is to reload a fresh copy of the ROM as last resort.
If you really want to see it you could keep a logcat and watch out for the event that triggers the notification and work your way onto the process to kill it. Another option is to manually block the offending site by getting its IP and routing it to the localhost (127.0.0.1) on the hosts (/etc/hosts) file.
It's Airpush. Airpush is a program that apps can use to put ads in your notifications.
Download Airpush detector to find out which app is doing it, then uninstall the app. There are other programs like Airpush out now, the app should detect those as well.

Was a theme for Go Launcher, thank you very much. I love it when people reply with pertinent information!
Hi everyone.
I recently went to the playstore and downloaded a few applications for my new HTC One X (Which I looooove btw)
Problem is though, I think as I downloaded it, a virus or an advertising program was installed with it.
When I check my notification list once in a while it has a download ready called something like "Miniskirtmania" and as I try to get it away, or clear the list, it starts downloading onto my phone. I clicked on it to see where it would bring me and it seems like its to some website, but my phone is blocking me from going to that website as it is not from the application store or whatever.
Arent there a way to get rid of this stupid thing? I deleted the application which I thought it was, but it still keeps coming. Cant I block the thing or?
I really hope you can help as its driving me crazy
Try logging into market dot android dot com (Sorry, I don't have enough posts on this forum to post a direct link yet ) using the same Google Account as you've used to log into Play Store with and sorting it from there.
Else, go to Settings, Applications, Google Play Store and clear the App Data in there.

I will give it a try!
And what should I do if it doesnt help?
Any suggestions then? :&
Backup everything and do factory reset.
Or there is one Lookout app which tell you what apps are using adds.
Or delete all apps that you installed.
Just in case download some "antivirus" app and scan your mobile, I now many will tell there is no way that virus will be in android, but as you can see here, experts nows their job, somewhere may be one looking for shortcut in underground.
I always check reviews to see what other are saying about any app before downloading.
p.s. sending from my small nexus so didnt see that you already done some steps. Sorry.

Actually many will tell you there are viruses and that these "anti virus" apps are useless. google normally pulls these infected apps way before they get picked up by the apps.

Hi Guys,
I am getting some weird notifications every now and then.
I don't know which application is forcing them to appear but I cant get hold of it, this is really irritating.
Sometimes because of this some application icons automatically come on my home screen and when I open them I am taken to Google Play to install them.
Is there a way I can find out what is causing this kind of behavior..
Check the screenshot.\

Advert. Only one of ur apps would have this. Go through and delete apps (and games if u want but games are usualy ad free unless theres ingame ads) or to save time download trustgo (not by me) it is an anti virus thing but it also detects ads in apps. (who knew some ads could send data)

Thats one thing but the xda tapatalk app push notification is just the xda sign in a speech bubble for subscribed threads only. If you ask the admin or mod or someone who knows the app inside-out they will tell you that xda dosnt do push notification ads. That star is a ad. I realy do recomend deleting apps until it go's or get an ad detector app. They are push ads and ive had them before and i know what they are.

Run Addons Detector, I had a similar problem, Ringdroid used to push ads in the notification bar after which i uninstalled it.
I found an app to take care of this advertisement stuff..
Air Push Detector
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brosmike.airpushdetector&hl=en
Con: You will have to uninstall your beloved app.
It did tell me one app which was using Push Ads, and I uninstalled that, till now no Ads.
Workaround:
Airpush Permanent Optout
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.airpush.optoutapp&hl=en
No need of app Uninstall, this will prevent 'AirPush' only Ads from popping up onto the notification bar, varying reviews for this app so did not use it.
Will keep you guys updated.

Airpush ad opt out
Hi Shingir,
My name is Nick and I am part of the publisher solutions team at Airpush.
To remove our ads, you can manually opt out at airpush.com/optout/, or you can always remove the app that the ads came from.
PM me if you need any more help.
Thanks,
Airpush Nick
