restoring nv_data.bin on Gnex - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi there,
Just bought from someone a Gnex sim unlock but when i ran *#06# i saw a strange IMEI which is not the box IMEI.
As i had an iPhone previously (shame on me..) i didn't know it's all about a strange soft sim unlock..
I read on xda that a lot of people got that prob after flashing a custom rom but mine is intouch. And in the HOW TO it's all about GS2 and /efs/ folder (/efs/ doesn't exist on the Gnex).
I factory reset it, flash the google image but nothing..
Now i ssh the Gnex and see 2 nv-data.bin file. One in /data/radio/ (with md5) and another in /factory/ (without).
Which one do i have to restore and where to have that phone factory sim locked but with my real IMEI ?
Thanks a lot !

[Q] Can't read SIM-cards | Galaxy Nexus

Hi, I'v just got a Galaxy nexus and after a week with it sittin withiut a sim in the shelf (rewieving Xpera S) I put the SIM-card back in today. But it can't seem to read the simcard, I'v tried resetting, cleaning the simcard and have taken it out and tried again some times now.
The phone is running stock, and is not rooted, and it's a Unlocked GSM device.
Anyone who knows what I should do? Is there anything I could do?

Since you've tried a lot of methods of working with the current SIM, the only other idea which comes to mind would be to perform a factory reset on the galaxy nexus. Perhaps a setting became corrupt along the way. Wiping /data and /cache would be very similar to a factory reset and shouldn't take too long to test if that resolves the issue.
Otherwise, perhaps trying another SIM card in the device before resetting might help confirm if there is an issue with that specific SIM card and the Galaxy Nexus, or if there is an issue with all SIM cards.
Hope that helps add a few more ideas to test!
Galaxy Nexus can't read SIM card
I'm facing a similiar problem but I can't find a solution. Anyone may help me, please?
I bought my GN in France (GSM version) and it was unlocked to SFR, Orange and Bouygues but my carrier is Free Mobile. Trying unlock to the carrier I tried to unlock, root and download a ROM using Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit 1.3 and I probably did some mistake... Every time that I start my mobile it is asked the PIN code (not the carrier code!) but when I type the correct code it always shows the message "incorrect pin code". I've put this SIM card in another Mobile and it works, so the SIM card is not blocked...
I downloaded an oficial version from google and I used Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit 1.3 to download boot.img, recovery.img, system.img and userdata.img in order to try to "restore" the original version. The download apparently was ok, but the problem continues...
The process using the option "flash stock + Unroot" and after "OEM Lock" (in GN Root Toolkit 1.3) works but the message "incorrect pin code" continues.
Any clue to solve this? Thanks a lot for helping!

IMEI repair

Hi all,
I have an I927 with a standard IMEI (0049...) after unlocking it with Z3X box.
The phone is an AT&T I927 and before unlocking I flashed the rogers kernel and then rooted it (as per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1378082) all this worked fine.
I have a back-up of nv_data.bin before unlocking and I have tried placing it back but this phone has some sort of weird extra checks which doesn't seem to exists in other android phones such as I9100 and the IMEI stays broken.
Anybody out there with the same problem and some ideas on about how to repair it?
I'm currently living in Peru and I was using the phone with Claro and it worked for like 2 months but since a few days it seems they blocked the IMEI (can't logon onto the network anymore, and sim works fine in other phone).
Also I've been searching for original AT&T kernel to put that back and then try to put nv_data.bin back to see if that makes any difference (shouldn't but I'm kinda desperate here)
thanks
Did u fix the problem or still have generic IMEI
Could you fix this?
i have the same problem but my phone still on ....im reading ur post it seems like u have root problem (might be mistaken) try to update super user and ur busy box ..by the way what rom u r using.
after u update everything try to put the files u backed up back ,reboot , ...feed back please

[Q]EFS Backup

Hello all
My ATT glider recently experiences frozen screen and Ive heard of reflashing the stock ICS rom may figure this out
The phone was bought from ebay and is now being unlocked on 4.0.4(not sure if its legit unlocked)
But I learnt flashing rom may possibly lead to re-locked of the phone
And found solutions about backing up the EFS files could retrive IMEI and unlocked status (correct me if im wrong)
Not sure which solution to go with
1. spocky12's GalaxSim Unlock here
2. EFS Tool (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2019540)
3. EFS Pro here
please advice

firstly, what are the first few numbers of the imei in about phone ?
Are they the same as the imei sticker inside the battery cover ? .. That is step 1.
If yes, then backup your EFS not using a tool but with ADB. There's a tutorial you can find that will explain how, its the most certain way to back it up.
then, once you have it saved and emailed and archived to your gmail account, google drive drop box.. whatever ... and clearly renamed to WORKING-EFS-GLIDE-(date).zip THEN start flashing.

I'm running the PA rom and GalaxSim 2.0.2 worked for me. It's not in the market anymore, but the apk I found worked when I paid for the unlock (after a reboot, that is). I've only had to use it once, but it seems like it'll work as many times as you need it without having to pay again.
There is a thread discussing this at length - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2019540

sgh-i257 Bell receives notifications but no network connection

I'll try to be brief. lol .Before finding this site I brought my unlocked S4 mini to wind to see if it will work. The guy found the 1700 freq in the phone service menu and changed something and said it won't keep on 1700 then he said something about the nv write. After a while he handed it back and said it wouldn't work. I put my bell sim in afterward it said no sim. it won't find any bell sim now. I tried a friends telus sim and it finds the sim fine and shows voicemail notifications but when I tried to call it says not connected to network. I can see the networks but when trying to connect, the signal drops and phone says "network not available try later". After it tries to connect the signal returns to normal.
So I found this site
I successfully rooted the phone with S4Mini_RootKit_v2.zip. It worked fine but had the same network problem. I fully rooted with cm11, then 12. Same problem.
I loaded a pit file gotten gaciously from sammobile. Same problem
I've returned all firmware to factory and undone root but still same issue.
The imei and serial number match the sticker on the back so they are not invalid.
The wifi and bluetooth and general operations are normal.
I'm guessing that the nv was rewritten and to recovery as well? But I really don't know as I am very new at this but have been doing a lot of reading.
1. Is there a way to restore the nv without a backup from my phone?
2. Is there a way to restore the service programming back to factory default? (I've seen this question asked before but only found the answer it is proprietory, whatever that means)
I have qpst and efs professional and a qcn file I was able to download from the internet
3. This qcn file is from unreliable source. Could I damage my phone more than it already is, and can i edit my imei and sn into it?
Thanks very much.

I painstakingly manually edited using qpst and restored all changed setting to a previous copied save.

Note 7 null IMEI, need to write it back. Donation for sure.

Hello dear XDA users!
First of all I would like to give offer to one that will solve my problem, I will send him 30 EUR directly to his PayPal account.
I am Note 7 Lover as I am collector of these phones.
I have many succesful Note 7 phones recovered from death updates which were fully discharged.
But I did great mistake which I can´t live with.
I had one Note 7 , fully functioning with all connectivities. I managed to install HydraRom and Hydrakernel there on my own as I did it many times before. I am an idiot I didn´t make backup of the system and mainy EFS in working state.
I broke display a little on my primary Note 7 so I needed to recover my TWRP backup on another phone but I accidentally checked restore also EFS partion from my previous phone.
So the phone just turned on and No service, Baseband unknown. My great mistake.
Tried lots of original ROM restore, reflashing HydraRom or radios/kernels, nothing works.
I read a lot about what i did, I have no backup of EFS partion from the one that has problem. I have only Samsung Box with only IMEI written on it, back cover is changed so there is no IMEI or S/N.
I googled a lot, tried all the programs (Z3x, Chimera, Octopus) but none of them has capability to write IMEI directly to the this N930F phone.
I finally found a software called SAMFIX V1.3 and after clicking Baseband in the HydraRom phone menu is visible
The phone is able to look for carriers (but only one) but had NULL IMEI.
Wifi and Bluetooth works well, but there is no IMEI when i dial *#06# and imei is 0000000000. And Bonus is that the phone acts as Dual SIM, through it is only N930F single SIM. So the phone menu in HydraRom after dialing says 0000 for both IMEIs.
I tried to write IMEI with software IMEI changer via xposed, but it "writes" it only for the system instance.
Phone is still unable to find my carrier of connect to one.
When i tried to see device info with all softwares it says:
PDA Version: N930FXXU2BPJ8
Baseband Version: N930FXXU2BPI5
CSC Version: N930FOXM2BPI5
Please help me to restore EFS somehow, or at least to succesfully write IMEI and S/N (which i don´t really have) to phone and can connect to my network as before my idiosm I did with restoring ROM from "same" but different device.
Who will help me will get 30EUR from me (student) on his PayPal.
Did you tried stock firmware? If not flash N930FXXU3BPL2, and do wipe. https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-7/help/n930fxxu3bpl2-t3520988/page2
Hello!
I tried flashing oficial firmware, didn´t solve my problem, or something called COMBINATION Factory binary but this failed.
Radio and baseband is all OK, I have two other phones exactly with this firmwares and versions and they work all OK.
Problem is with EFS and CERT, before wrongly restoring this partion with TWRP backup from another NOTE 7 SM-N930F the phone worked all OK.
I managed to do with many softwares to write IMEI and S/N and it succeeded!
It is written in CERT file and not only with some IMEI changer for system run instance. It is readable via ADB.
Phone can unlock the SIM card but is unable to load carriers.
I read a lot of this problem and I compared CERT file of a backuped one and CERT on the restored one after my IMEI repair.
The CERT on the recovered one has it´s own IMEI now but has same ImeiSign,PubKey,PubKeySign as the backuped one from what I made restoration with TWRP.
So these codes are OK for the IMEI and S/N on the working one but they are inconert for the not working one because of encrypting.
I tried to flash CERT from the working one to bricked one but this does not work because of some CPID encrypting or so.
Have you please any solution to
1. Fully restore working EFS on the phone to work as before?
2. Try to make calculation for the right ImeiSign,PubKey,PubKeySign for that IMEI?
i have Samsung note 7 n930f
