i flashed a dodgy rom the other day , my phone wont boot in to recovery or boot up (actaull rom) . i can acceas boot loader and fast boot ... i think my custom recovery is corrupt etc ....
any ideas what is the best soultion eg ruu etc
do i need a gold card if i wan to downgrade to 2.2 and i am reverting back to stock telstra(austrlaia)
can you flash via the bootlaoder eg update zip ? are there other ways to install a custom recovery ,i think it's called a p811img.zip or update zip can i just zip and rename a nandroid backup and restore that way ...
if fastboot is working and you believe the recovery is corrupt, just try flashing a correct recovery through adb fastboot?
there's a tutorial on that somewhere on the forum, then you can probably try nandroid recovery if you made a copy previously
Don't search the forums for any fixes, you'll never find any.. making a new thread was totally the right thing to do.
Also, don't look at my guide, it really sucks and there's nothing useful for you on it.

Alright I have a problem. I bought a used G2 which had already been rooted. I installed CM7 on it and it worked fine except for wi-fi (little did I know the awful path this was about to send me down). I thought this might be because I was using Recovery 2.5, so I switched to recovery 3.0 and flashed CM7 again, same problem. I found out you have to reboot the phone after your first boot to get wifi working a lot of time so that was my fault, I should have researched that more thoroughly from the beginning and I would have avoided this whole ordeal. Anyway after this I wanted to downgrade to Recovery 2.5 again because there are a lot of zips that can't be installed through recovery with 3.0. So I tried to do that and couldn't, I looked around and found that was probably because I didn't have eng s-off which I didn't, I had s-off but not engineering.
So I tried getting that working, this took forever because I couldn't figure out if I was supposed to use the OTA or preOTA.ko file. I discovered my phone was post OTA so I tried using that file and didn't receive the correct error message (Function not implemented), but instead some other error. After researching this and trying to find out why that could be or what exactly the OTA part of it does without a definitive answer I decided to go ahead and run the terminal command for eng s-off anyway feeling relatively safe. This succeeded and I was happy that I'd finally figured everything out! Wrong. I had eng s-off. Also I was able to downgrade the recovery again through terminal, however after doing this and trying to boot into recovery it would just stay at the white HTC symbol. Fine, maybe I can't downgrade to 2.5 after installing CM7. So I upgraded Recovery back to 3.0 and used it to install CM6.1.
After doing this I went into ROM manager and dropped myself back down to recovery 2.5.1.3. Now whenever I try to reboot into recovery I immediately get taken to fastboot. I've tried searching for any others having problems like this without success and I'm extremely frustrated. I tried using different versions of recovery 2.0, I tried updating to recovery 3.0 all without any success, still just boots into fastboot if I try to get into recovery. Please tell me someone knows what my issue could be and how I can fix it, meanwhile I'll continue trying to work it out and let you know if I do. Thankyou.
EDIT: It appears for whatever reason rom manager may actually not be flashing a recovery, if someone could post the 2.5.1.3 recovery.img that would be wonderful
I dont know if you have Andriod SDK set up and if you know how to use Fastboot, but since you have an ENG. Hboot you can use fastboot to flash a new recovery image onto your phone, you can download the CWM Recovery 3.0.0.5 .Img from HERE. Place the new recovery image into the same folder your Fastboot.exe file is and run this command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery <name of recovery.img>
There is also a way to flash a new recovery using flash_image method from you phone, so you can download a new recovery from the link above and use this method to flash it.
2.5.1.3 recovery is obsolete, the new 3.0.0.5 recovery supports all roms 2.2. and 2.3.

Thanks, yes I know how to use fastboot, and I did install the 3.0.0.5 recovery earlier, the problem with recovery 3 is that a lot of older zips don't support it and I'd really like that functionality. Any idea on where I might be able to find the older recovery? Thanks in advance
I have a copy of the 2.5.1.3 recovery, I put it in my dropbox for you:

Heres a MD5 checksum for it:

Update for anyone else frustrated by this, I found a tool that will attempt to update your zip to the new edify format. I've tried it on a couple zips so far and it worked both times, they just added support for the G2. Here's the link

Apparently you don't have custom recovery installed, flash it first.
fastboot flash recovery *name of the recovery*.img
After that you can boot into custom recovery and start flashing stuff Make sure you do a nandroid backup

I have a Canadian HTC m9 , bootloader unlock, Twrp , rooted.
i was going to do a OTA to get the fix for the camera and heat issue. however on the process to revert back i end up stuck on the HTC splash screen with recover twrp acess .
what i did is did flash my backup file before the root and tried flashing stock recovery file. but no luck.
i tried flashing again the twrp and still no luck. and everytime i tried to reboot it shows NO OS installed.
any suggestion on what i can do to fix it? im kind new in HTC, i read upon the forum and not sure where to get RUU or the right ROM or if i should flash does stuff..... can i get some help?
I would suggest you flash the latest recovery through fastboot (2.8.6.4) from here https://basketbuild.com/devs/Captain_Throwback/One (M9)/Recovery and try to flash a custom rom or run an RUU if there is any for your variant

you solved the problem at the meantime?
if not.
push via adb a rom.zip to your sdcard and flash it via twrp recovery
yes it did fix it, i was able to boot the phone up again however, can i still flash my original back up so that i can get OTA? i tried using Venon ROM and according to them i can get the OTA but when i tried to update it no update available and i know there is one. i check my build # it still the old one, 1.32.401.17 CL506785 release key.
any idea?
thanks for your time.
Hey guys, I just recently got some parts for my old One X to start playing with it again (bored with ios). I was running an older version of ViperXL and wanted to get lollipop so my goal was to put CM12.0 on my phone. My recovery was twrp but a version that was older so I had to update it. The in app update wasn't working so I updated cwm instead. When I did this I tried to boot to recovery and it would attempt to go to recovery but then boot back to the os.
Then I was trying to flash the recovery using fastboot which resulted in the same problem. Somewhere in there I flash the recovery.img as my boot image (sudo fastboot flash boot recovery.img) This made my phone repeatedly try to boot into recovery. I tried flashing new ViperXL boot.img as well as a couple others but none let me get into my os again. Now it is just a bootloop trying to start my phone up.
When I try flashing a .zip I get the error 'FAILED (remote: not allowed)'. Flashing recovery and boot images work though.
I've tried a lot and done a lot of searching but nothing can get me into recovery or even out of any sort of bootloop.
I'm using Ubuntu and my phone is S-On if that means anything.
Thanks!
Try restoring any backups of old roms from the recovery. Make sure Recovery is written properly in recovery partition. If this works fine , the appropriate boot.img shud be automatically flashed , i guess.
If u dont have a backup , try finding another one x user using a custom recovery, create a backup from his mobile and copy it to ur sd card by mounting it thru recovery and restore it.
If it doesnt work , wipe all the partitions - System , cache, boot and recovery.. then try flashing a Recovery and then a Boot.img and a rom.
I havent faced such a situation. Just my suggestions as no experts have responded.
Cheers if u have already sorted it out !!!
hello I am trying to fix this old phone which keeps bootlooping. I can't get to the OS, and the bootloader won't show. When I try to go to the bootloader, I get to the recovery screen. I tried looking for an answer on google but all of the ones I found needed me to boot to the OS first. please link me to a tutorial for how to fix these, and explain like you would to a complete newbie. Thank you
This what you will flash the stock recovery of your phone since is booting into recovery. Now have in your sdcard the stock firmware renamed to whateva your line of desire is 0pjfimg etc. Now when your reboot your phone it will boot into the stock recovery there is an option for bootloader/hoot screen. The phone will see the firmware when it boot into bootloader. So and let me know ok.
