Hello
I have a small problem to get to the Recovery, every time I try to get the Recovery mode, it keeps getting an error, I want to upgrade it to android 4.0 for HTC Desire, and I have Android 2.3 on it now.
Could anyone please help me.
Thanks in advance
Jaxa
Get s-off and flash custom recovery (4ext)
In short. You don't have recovery, it's not an error.
Guys I have a similar problem (i think), I bought this used. I have an s-off boot screen with the Joker on it and have clockworkmod 5.02.. recovery plus a .90 Hboot on. It was on cm7 or sth and when ive tried flashing ics sense and supernova, Im stuck on that screen.
I've to take off my battery then insert it back to go to recovery. Volume down+power aint working for me, looks like the whole (-) button is messed up.
Kindly point me in the right direction. Thanks

Where should I get that recovery.img from? Also, isn't htc fastboot a terminal on its own meaning a program?

Usually from the recovery-thread.
But if you want to flash 4EXT-recovery, you do not need an img-file. Just download the 4EXT Recovery from thread (free) or from Play Store (paid, for donation), start the app and follow instructions.

After downloading the fastboot-files, you can extract them and then start CMD in Windows, switch to the extracted folder and you can run ADB / Fastboot just fine [at least for Windows, for Linux / Mac it's a little more complicated (see the guide jn my sig)]. So it's not really a "stand-alone"-program.

I spent all night downgrading to froyo, when I was finally at 2.2 I used the visionary method to get temp root, that worked fine, when I tried to get permanent root I couldnt get s-off so I started following another guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835777
I followed all the steps and when I typed in reboot the phone rebooted and got stuck at the htc screen. I tried to turn it on with vol- and power and go into recovery but I got a black screen with a phone and error message, then it rebooted back to the htc screen and is still stuck there.
Please help! this is my only phone and I need it fixed asap
Thanks in advance!
can you enter bootloader? what does it show?

There have been numerous warnings over the past year about Visionary that I have to ask this question: Why oh why did you use it? Rage is a much safer method than Visionary and won't brick your phone at all (rooted three G2's with Rage/Gfree).

by the time i got back to 2.2 it was almost 4am and i just wanted to get it done i followed the first thread i found.
Yes i know i made a mistake but any help would be apreciated
what is ?
what is your main problem
the problem is it wont load past the htc logo screen
Get a copy of the 2.2 PC10IMG.zip and reboot into your bootloader (Vol. Down + Power). If the bootloader can flash it, you should be able to boot normally. Go to the CyanogenMod Wiki and root using Rage/Gfree.

is there gonna be a problem since i have s-off
I put the PC10IMG.zip in the root of the sd card, turned the phone on (vol- and power) it found the image, there was a loading bar to the right, and then nothing happened after the load. Im still at the same bootloader and if I reboot it is still stuck at the htc screen

Okay, go back into your bootloader and flash the latest ClockworkMod recovery via Fastboot.
I assume I can find the directions on how to load clockwork through fastboot on here. If that does work and I can go into recovery would I be safe to flash a custom rom at that point

Since I will only have time to work on the phone tonight after work and I need it for tomorrow are there any other possible solutions to my problem or would flashing clockwork through fastboot be it?

For fastboot to flash recovery, the image needs to be on your comp. Open up your computer's Terminal, cd to the directory it's in, and type "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" (without the quotes).
Sent via smoke signal.
nevermind got it
for people that are curious:
have the recovery.img (correct one! this was my problem) in the tools folder of the android sdk, open command prompt from that folder (hold shift and right click)
then run this command
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
also phone has to be in fastboot (vol- and power, then select fastboot)
I finally have recovery!
Im gonna try to load a rom now!
It worked! my phone is alive!
Thank you all for your help!
Hi there,
I have been battling (and learning) for now over 4 days with a mate that has succeeded installing Android 4.0 on his HD. We are having difficulties on a few points. I have some part of answers I found here and there, however there are still a few dark areas in my research at this stage. I have looked up the sticky one and have not found any answer that suits my issues.
I am at the point where I'm trying to S-OFF the phone, I wish to make a system recovery first. I have tried to reboot to recovery with the help 4ext and Rom Manager and getting a red triangle everytime.
My set is an Autralian HTC Desire from Telstra.
Thanks in advance if you wish to help us.

You can´t install 4Ext recovery if you aren´t s-off...
Go to revolutionary.io
This will S-OFF and if I recall right also install a recovery.
Okay I've used the revolutionary tool, I am s-offed, thanks for that, now how can I make sure recovery went okay
Well... try it?
Press volume down + power to get into bootloader, then launch recovery.
You navigate the menu with volume up and down.
FYI this is the desire not desire HD forum.
Thanks to the s-off I was able to install original HTC rom of froyo, this way I got rid of this evil Tesltra rom thing, that was possibly being the spanner in the works.
Thing is, revolutionnary was supposed to create a recovery file, and I'm still getting red triangle when launching recovery from bootloader.

If you can now boot into android I would recommend the 4ext recovery (see my sig). Download the app from the market and use this to install the latest Touch recovery.
yep 4ext is good can also solve usb bricks although i solved mine with a simple adb command
sure... but why sould I use 4ext since revolutionary was doing the job in the first place?
anyway I ordered 4ext 4hrs ago and i'm still w8ting for notification and still got nothing

Your syntax makes it difficult to understand. I will try this but in the future it would be good if you could improve it.
Shall I extract the img files with an ISO reader or shall I open them with my phone system?
hi,
use 7zip to extract the img file but don t touch the file img... this is the one to flash into your device by the command
Code:
fastboot flash recovery c:\wherethe.imgfile.isonyourcomp
i would advice to do first a
Code:
fastboot erase recovery
in a cleaner way but not mandatory.
have a look in this following link everything to know to install and use adb/fastboot
look to my signature there is a link to the 4ext dev's thread. he s really aware and give a best support for his work. what i ve seen, i advice to have a look and post your experience. once u got the app 4ext running on your device it becomes really easy to flash recovery (and his is really rockin')
hope this help

Hi,
My understanding was that you could not get into recovery.
My suggestion of 4ext was due to the fact that is is (IMHO):
- the easiest to install as it can be done directly from within an app
- the best currently available
I was not suggesting that you needed the paid version (which has more bells and whistles). The free version should so the job just as well.
Okay so thats an attempt to use your tips, the phone is connected via usb in charge only mode and here is what I get on CMD
C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools>fastboot erase recovery
< waiting for device >
Are you suggesting me to post on the EXT4 post as well?

That's okay mate, thanks for your concern.
What do you suggest if 4EXT is not getting me anywhere and I get the red triangle no matter what..?
Okay so I am trying to install the jdroid rom, btw first time ever doing this so bare with me, anyways I can't boot my phone stays at HTC quietly brilliant screen with some writing underneath it red. I can get into the bootloader menu, where I am rooted and says my bootloader is unlocked. I can also get into clockwork mod however I messed up when transferring the rom onto my phone. I unzipped it and put it there instead of leaving it in the zip file. I can't mount to my laptop through clockwork mod, is there any other way? Again I can't boot my phone. Thanks
EDIT: Now whenever my phone boots, it boots into the clockworkmod and keeps rebooting I can't do anything, cant mount my phone at all

What you need to do when flashing:
a) CWM recovery
fastboot flash recovery xxxrecovery.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot erase cache
b) Flashing a ROM
extract the boot.img from the ROM.zip
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot erase cache
enter recovery
install the ROM.zip
reboot

as long as you can get the correct RUU and flash the correct stock recovery, RUU will defo work, then you can start again from scratch. I've done this myself
edit: AT&T????? Are you even in the correct forum using the correct files/methods??? HTC One XL is different forum, different files!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alright I got out of it using the st&t ruu, though I live in Canada and on Rogers. Data doesnt work but that is not surprise. Gotta wait for a root access and/or bootloader unlock for 1.85. will be patient.
Hi,
I've looked through a lot of threads but can't match the symptoms to mine (this could be a lack of knowledge on my part) so any help is appreciated.
I've previously flashed ARHD a number of times successfully including a new boot image. I flashed 9.2 today with CD Tools Suite and this was fine. I later decided that I wanted to re-flash without the CD Suite Tools and did this by going into recovery and re-flashing the ARHD zip.
The update ran successfully (per CWM) but I can't boot into it. All I get to is the HTC One white screen with a beats audio logo beneath it. I also can't get the phone to reboot into flashboot / recovery so that I can do anything with it (I've tried holding the power button and either vol up or down but this just reboots the phone and it goes back to the white screen again).
I'm sure there is a way out of this. Could anyone please help me?
Many thanks.

Did you use fastboot to flash the correct boot.img file first? It's my understanding that anytime you flash a rom you must flash via fastboot the correct boot.img file for that rom followed by erasing cache before entering recovery and flashing the rom.
Didn't someone say holding volume up & power can brick your phone?
Fastboot is volume down & power.
Press them at the exact same time, keep them held till fastboot loads up (even if it does another reboot)

Reflash the recovery in fastboot. Get 4EXT Touch recovery, boot into fastboot and write in cmd
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
u can get latest 4ext tecovery in my sig, just click PB99IMG 4ext recovery and extract the zip file then put recovery.img in ur c:\ drive on ur computer, put ur phone into fastboot (with ur phone off hold back button + power) and plug it into ur computer (so it says "fastboot usb") then open fastboot command window and type -
fastboot erase recovery
(then type)
fastboot flash recovery c:\recovery.img
or... u could just do it the PB99IMG method, instructions in that link.
ps: next time post problems in desire Q&A

Damn. It's not working - neither ur way, nor the alternative solution.
When i type fastboot flash recovery, the console says "sending recovery <3784 KB>...." and then it freezes. There is a greeen rectangle in the left corner of the smartphone screen, but nothing happens.
When i tried the alternetive way (with recovery.img on sd card) HBOOT hasn't seen the image.
EDIT: I put ZIP on sdcard, HBOOT installed recovery, but it still freezes on HTC logo screen.
when u used PB99IMG to install recovery did u try enter recovery or just reboot?

i couldn't install recovery fom PC.
When i installed it form bootloader, i didn't reboot. I tried to get into recovery immediately. No dice. So i've reinstalled it, tried to reboot, and then get in the recovery - still nothing.

1 more thing, Have u got HTC Sync installed? i think that it interfere's with fastboot n that. u only need the drivers installed.
U can get bootloader so it should be fixable, its just nothing is working lol.
The only thing i can think of is going back to s-on :crying:
you would have to flash alpharev downgrader, flash stock hboot and then run the 2.3 upgrade from bootloader. this is last resort so maybe someone can confirm first before trying. if it went well then u can just use revolutionary to gain s-off and instal CWM recovery
i wouldn't mind going on s-on again. But can u do that without ADB mode available?

not 100% sure but u can do it using the PB99IMG method. Basically u have to extract the rom.zip and rename it to PB99IMG.zip, put on ur sdcard then hold volume down + power then bootloader will ask u to update. The same as before. just make sure u flash Alpharev downgrader first. (i know this works as i done it myself 2 month ago)
if u want i can post both downgrader and rom zip files if u want as PB99IMG?
Do u have stock hboot?
i guess stock hboot.
It would be very kind of you if u post both files here - i don't want to download any wrong files....
Thanks again!
