Best stable kernel for stock ROM - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Right, situation is my flat mate has his play.
He wants to keep it on stock coz of all the issues with the game pads on custom roms.
Rooting is not an issue.
But we do think that a custom kernel with an overclock will help the gameplay alot.
My question is simply what available kernel is the most stable...... I'm inclined to believe doomkernel. But wanted to ask the ppl using the phone what's the best option
Edit: Are there any problems with unlocking bootloader? Like losing drm?

DooMKernel is by far, the best kernel for stock R800i/a/at/x
Depending on your method of unlocking your bootloader, you could lose DRM.
If your unlocking it via Testpoint method, you will be able to keep DRM.
If your unlocking via http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com will lose DRM

Root and Ram Manager There's a Hard Gaming setting that boosts RAM for gaming.
Overclocking just drains battery extremely fast.
I think the DRM just affects things like TrackID from what I've read. I'm in ICX Beta 3 and haven't any issues with DRM yet

I'm using Doomlord's Kernel v11 and it supports overclocking upto 2ghz. here is the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176502
With regards to unlocking the bootloader, the only problem will be voiding your phone warranty lol

Not sure if this is what you are after, but I use Doomlord's advanced kernel for Stock Roms.

No idea what possessed me to initally download this kernel considering it was a few pages back when I first found it on this forum, but I'm glad I did! It's lean and mean!

i have use custom kernel, but how to use it?
what app that use to make unlock bootloader have an effect?
I'm using TrueAnchestor Rom and I think its awesome.
I use Gin2Ics or well it is now called Gin2JB which is a really nice rom. (GingerBread to Jellybean/Ice Cream Sandwich)
Then I use the voltage control app to overclock, my stable settings are 364-1400 on scheduler bfq and Smartass v2.
hey man
your phone performance is not related to your battery , you just increased your battery life !
all the roms are the same , some of them are a little bit better and some of them are a little bit buggy ! even if you overclocked your kernel , it increase your performance slightly .
be hunest with yourself mate .
I suggest if you want a strong phone to start having it lift weights. Yes it might take a while to build muscle at first but its worth it in the end. And if you are really impatient, you can always give it steroids.

arc s laggy compare to galaxy i9000

hello :cyclops:
i have the arc s lt18i.
in the beginning i flash the official sony ics release and i compare it to the samsung galaxy s1 - i9000 with custom rom (run ics).
the result is that the galaxy s1 much faster and smoother then the arc s. all the menus are much faster and the youtube app much much smoother. - the arc s is laggy and dont smooth in youtube app when i move from comments section to "other videos" section, when i scrolling in the "comment" section or "other videios" section.
i think thatthe official rom is the problem so i flashed ics jj hybrid rom.
now the phone is fast but not like the samsung galaxy s1 :crying:
the ypuyube app is very lag when i play a clip and navigate in the "comments" section, which in galaxy s1 is smooth!
as much as i know the arc s have a 1.4ghz and better specs
so what is the problem? is the samsung galaxy s1 is really better then the arc s?
thanks! :good:

hmm.. so the galaxy s1 with the 1ghz is better then the arc s with 1.4ghz?
because i did not overclocked both of them and the galaxy s1 is much faster.
do you guys have the same lags in the youtube with the scrolling? (while the video playing)
thank you guys for your comment!
Dont Forget
Dont forget that your galaxy S is using a custom rom. Considering if it were on a stock ROM performance would be better on the arc S considering that it is on 4.0.4

ok but i dont see differences at all in the arc s or the galaxy s1.. i mean the ics look and everything is exactly like the arc s jj hybrid ics.
everything is the same!!! like they both based on ics!!!
but the old galaxy s1 wins for sure

Same problem with my Xperia Arc (ICS) ..
I think Sony mess up with ICS firmware. The phone was great and game friendly with GB, with official ICS it's laggy and don't play many games. I'm with a locked bl based on the 431 firmware. I've tried some roms and finally stick with pureness 10 V6 supercharged. Games won't play, but the phone is more reponsive, with less launcher restart. But overall the phone is slower than my old Desire with CM7

Unlock your bootloader , flash a custom kernel , flash a custom ROM ... Then you will see how fast it can perform...
BTW the galaxy s is probably on a custom kernel which is overclocked , running a custom supercharged ROM...

I don't want to unlocked bootloader and lost warranty and drm right And i don't think that putting a custom kernel made such a difference. But why Sony can't simply release a good rom is beyond my understanding. Why with GB i have no problem to play Angry birds and Asphalt 6 and when i upgrade to ICS, i must sometime reboot to play Angry bird because of touchscreen problem and can't play Asphalt 6 because of lack of usable memory. Maybe it's Google fault too, with ICS to big for 2011 smartphone, or bad Sony rom, but the result is here, unhappy customer, who are think twice before buying a sony phone in the future

Yep ! Back to the future is probably the best solution, maybe i'm asking too much to Sony to hope a ICS as good as a GB They now concentrate on lauching too many new phones

which rom is better

i was thinking about it and i wanted your info on it, which rom would suit me better, 2.3.4, 2.3.7 or 4.0.4? which rom has everything working and still plays all the games, which rom has the best space optimized and which rom runs the best. your input is welcome. reason i asked is i want to install something i don't have to worry about having to search for a fix.
I like 2.3.4, good battery and perfomance.
The one you'll try.

As chery2k and I have been rambling on for some time over doomkernels wifi issues. I myself have tried the stock with overclock and I believe chery2k has as well. The wifi is much better on stock with overclock. Problem with that is no recovery. And the app that installs recovery to the system partition is not working, at least it hasnt for me. But to be honest I really want a kernel with embedded recovery and good wifi. If its possible to modify doomkernels wifi modules to work better that would be great. But for now and for many months now myself, chery2k and I am sure many otthers have been having wifi disconnect, drop off, reconnect, and repeat itself about every 2-3 days. For me having to reflash the wifi modules helps for about anywhere from a coupel days to about a week. But ultimately same results.

Yea, not having recovery is a big downer, and for me as well that recovery installer app never worked, I wonder how much time it would take to really add recovery to the stock o/c kernel, I really don't know much about the process yet.

The recovery installer app does work however the latest version doesn't work try finding an earlier version of the recovery app (v1). I am really torn between Doomlord and hatcyl's kernel. I need Doomlord for Ocing (schedulers) and hatcyl has wifi (stable). Ocing on hatcyl's is unstable for me and my R800x gets extremely hot compared to Dooms with the same frequency. I even messaged Doomlord about it but I didnt get a reply and Wedgess keeps pushing me aside when I ask him about a CDMA kernel. I can't believe I'm being ignored at this kind of level. The wifi modules that is in Doom's CDMA kernel is not based on the R800x but another GSM device with .145 firmware.

In regards to your reply to me, yes I did. But as I was not using an older version thats why it didnt work. I guess I will have to test it out. And in regards to your other comment. I also noticed how much hotter the stock with overclok kernel gets. I mean for me it gets so hot I can noticably feel it through my phones case.
Also I have PMd wedgess about how his CDMA wifi modules for his kernel do not work on DHCP, only static IP. Which everything I use is DHCP. His kernel seemed to work great, I mean I saw better performancve with GTA and Max Payne then DoomKernel. But the wifi is a must for me. I am surpirsed nyself at how much our CDMA gets disregarded and or ignored. I mean even wifi modules. Either way once my contract is up in about 2 months I will be getting a new AT&T xperia play and hopefully it will be able to BL unlock via Sony's website. Lots of choices for ROMs and kernels.... but until then.....same story..... Also, if I am coming across as angry at devs please realize that although myself and many others appreciate the time you take for our phone on this forum, its frustrating how much CDMA users are left in the dark with extremely limited options and even more limited kernel choices that perform 100%.

[REQUEST] Gingerbread Kernel

Hi everybody. I cannot understand why this community finally ended developing gb kernels. Yes I know, we like to have latest features, we like to see the number 4 in our build description, but let's be realistic... There's nothing compared to gb in our Arc / s... I have been thinking differently until a month, but now it is impossible to think in another way...
- I go to bed after 18h having 50% of battery...
- With some tweaks I have the same smoothness or MORE than in JB.
- Extreme good RAM usage. Amazing for games
- Gb is the most stable firmware for our device. No reboots, NEVER. a very few fc..
And now think... is there any fw that IN STOCK has all this features? The answer is no...
We have only two kerneles for GB
- DoomKernel v22
- Advanced Stock Kernel (also by DoomLord) v1
I request developers to continue working in kernel development in GB. People still use gb, and u can notice that by entring in the dev section. There still are gb roms and people use them!
Please, don't give up, continue it and we will get the best results in our phone.
Thanks

Sure, I'll start whenever I get a new PC and some free time.

No, I would request a more powersaving kernel. It is battery-stable enough but I would suggest more and more development. Always more if it is possible.
