Just got my marvelc today and found this guide in the stickys http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19448584 and the latest post is Dec 1st. I tried to post my question in that thread but tapatalk keeps saying "failed to connect" for some reason. So, I had to make a new topic about it. I'm just wondering if this is the guide I need or if theirs a newer method. My hboot is 1.06.
Tia.
That's how I did it and would do again if needed. U can also HTC dev unlock bootloader from their site I believe.

My hboot didn't say "locked", so I would need to update hboot to do htcdev, right? But to be honest, I'd much rather have s-off. My EVO 3d is htcdev unlocked (for now) and I'd like to slap HTC across the face for giving us this semi unlock. I know that something is better than nothing but I gotta jump through hoops to flash aosp. And I simply can't flash a custom splash screen or radio.

Just keep your hoot at 1.06 and do the goldcard s-off method. It's the full unlock and not the semi unlock crap. Seems like a lot of people on here with problems have the HTC unlock.

Ok, I'm new to htc's and don't hate on me for asking this but I've searched here and on Google and am not getting good enough results, I currently have a 2.2 stock ROM with root and clockwork to boot ( just got the phone and it was this way when I got it) I now have to send the phone in for repairs and I was thinking if it would be ok to just update to the 2.3 htc stock update?
Do the RUU's include everything boot, radio and ROM?
I come from the world of Samsung where we have small updates (that don't have boot) and large ones (wich include all 3 packages)
Also if this was posted in the wrong section, mod could you please move it to the appropriate place thank you
Cheers.
A RUU is indeed a complete package. It will return it completely to stock.

Thanks for the swift reply
Just make sure you have stock hboot, the RUU won't fit into CM7 hboot

yes it will, the alpharev overwrite protection doesn't work on the 2.3 update and will update the bootloader also.
Oh thats good to know...

im not sure about this, as some users reported to remain still s-off after the 2.3 ruu (and this should be logic as the alpharev bootloader version is 6.93 (>1.02))
I did the update and everything went great, I also saw that the loader is now S-ON
whatever that means

S-ON means the bootloader is now locked.
i am trying to update my wfs to android 2.3.5 from 2.3.3
i have tried all methods on this forum to no avail.
i have searched and read almost all threads
marvel pvt ship s-on rl ( unlocked bootloader)
h boot 1.08.0099
radio 7.53.39.03m
android 2.3.3
htc sense 2.1
kernel 2.6.35 10-g60b2609
build number 1.33.771.5 cl44680 release-keys
do apologies if i am being a complete noob but anyone able to help
ur still on stock rom?
and got 2.3.3? and want to get to 2.3.5???
just do an update in symstemsetting>aboutphone> system update
you have unlocked bootloader. do you also have cwm recovery?
if yes, you need to reinstall stock recovery and re-lock bootloader before installing official 2.3.5.
if FOTA does not work, see marvel stock rom collection in the dev section
I just got notification of an OTA update today.
So I have two problems...
Is there a link to stock recoveries? I'm pretty sure I don't have any sort of backup as I never messed with recovery till I put CWM on my phone lol.
Also, I know I rooted and S-OFF my phone, honestly don't remember if I unlocked the bootloader, pretty sure I did. (I'm assuming if it doesn't say RELOCKED or LOCKED OOW it's unlocked)
Is there a guide I can follow to re-lock and put stock recovery back onto the Wildfire S (specifically A510C/MARVELC)?

thanks for your reply, yes i have cwm.
and i have tried updating via FOTA by relocking bootloader but when it tries to update it stops with a android in a triangle.
any official htc rom try fails .
try this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445867
afterwards you should be able to flash a RUU.

I believe it means "Firmware Over The Air".
And for the record, the work that you have achieved means NO, you are not dumb.
I was always told that there are NO dumb/stupid questions, only sometimes some answers.

Just finished reading it.
It should be very handy for a lot of people.
I'm no Newbie but I'm also no expert.
I've done a lot of work including learning how to build/modify an existing ROM but for Windows Phone. I've had my WFS since July 2011, so I'm still learning. However, I would love to S-OFF my phone and modify a STOCK ROM. This is beyond me at present but maybe one day I can learn. All I would really like to do is delete application I would never use. Basically just customising to my own preferences.
At least this is a start.
Thank you very much.

It should. If it did, just unlock again as I THINK it may relock your bootloader.
If not, good.
Managed to change numbers and reflash following tutorial. But when I went to flash to 2.3.5 it came up with customer cid error.
Any help please.

Good evening everybody! I have a problem that's been driving my batty the past couple nights. My cousin gave me his old Droid Incredible 2 to mess around with and try to get a little faster. I do have some experience with the phones, so I'm not completely new to this. Here is my problem: I went to look up a way to root the phone and found a tutorial that shows me how to root it and unlock the bootloader from the HTCdev site. I have successfully unlocked the bootloader and achieved root as well. From that point I installed an ice cream sandwich 4.0.3 custom rom. After messing around with the phone and the newly installed rom for a while, I decided that I wanted to revert back to the stock rom and start fresh.
If I understood what I researched correctly, I shouldn't have unlocked the bootloader from HTCdev and just went ahead and did the s-off? This is where I'm confused. I tried to relock the bootloader and it gave me the security warning. When I try to run revolutionary, it tells me HBoot, .98 isn't supported at this time. So...I think I have to figure out how to downgrade the HBoot to .97, am I right? Can someone please give me a detailed instruction guide, or link on how to get this back to normal?
Thanks. Brian
well to get your phone back to stock flash a ruu your bootloader will still be locked but as far as s-off goes read this thread > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1298990

Flashing an RUU is putting the PG32IMG file on my sd card, right? I've done that and it says that "Main version is older". So do I keep the bootloader locked and get s-off? Since the phone stays in the bootloader when I relock it through adb.
Unlock again and keep it at the sense stock and follow the following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28290187

I updated to Kit Kat this morning. What are the necessary steps for me to gain root? I haven't rooted a phone since my Droid X, so I might be out of the loop on some things. Thanks for any help!!!
So why would you take the update before asking this
Sent from my HTC One VZW using Tapatalk 4
You can still root it. If you go into RUU mode, flash one of the older system RUU's, then get s-off before updating. You pretty much gave yourself a **** ton more steps to do it, but yes, you can.
This link has the info to flash back to an older version - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2475216&highlight=s-on
You won't need the s-on / lock part of that, but you will probably need to flash one of those old system images, then use rumrunner to get s-off and unlocked, then you can update to 4.4, then flash a recovery.
Use firewater-soff.com. Use the temp root method.

If you are s-on hboot will not allow you to flash an older ruu version than you are currently on (downgrade). So that wont work. But as stated in the post above firewater will get you bootloader unlocked and s-off.

So Firewater can achieve S-off with completely stock kit kat? I ask because I just sent my One to be repaired (4.3 S-off) but I have this feeling HTC will update me and possibly return me to S-on.

It is supposed to work for the newer versions. The worst case scenario is that it won't work.

Edit: You don't need S-Off to flash custom roms/kernels/recoveriers - it's for people that want to tinker at a deeper level.
From what I remember from my DNA days, S-Off removes the security flag on HTC devices and allows you to flash a different h-boot, change the CID - which allows you to flash firmware from different carriers (BE CAREFUL DOING THIS), and remove the "unlocked/tampered" text from the fastboot menu.
Also, check out the 2nd half of the article in this link: http://www.pocketables.com/2013/04/why-you-want-root-and-s-off-on-htc-devices.html
Again, be careful with S-Off. If you ever go back to S-On and have the wrong h-boot or firmware installed I believe it will brick the device.

Well that's new to me. If the developer of the ROM says to have your phone S-OFF then definitely go with their instructions. I haven't seen the S-OFF method on the forums here, but I'm sure a google search will get you to the needed file(s) and instructions. If I remember correctly, actually achieving S-OFF wasn't too complicated/dangerous as long as you're comfortable using adb/fastboot - it's just what you can do to your phone once you've achieved S-OFF that can be dangerous.

If you fully convert to gpe I think you need s-off because you use the ruu. But with an unlocked bootloader, you can just flash the gpe ROM instead of fully converting the phone.

I'm sorry, but I have to ask...what's the benefit of a full gpe conversion? Does it run faster...Will it update if the HTC gpe edition gets updated and will I have trouble with the T-Mobile bands? Thank you so much
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk
That's exactly why most people do the ruu conversion, when there's an ota they will get the update too as long as you keep the stock Google recovery. Although on my m7 I was able to get ota with twrp. On m7 I kept Google radio and had no problems with T-Mobile. I think it should be the same for m8 since on the play store it says the phone supports T-Mobile. Just go check out the thread for the conversion if you need help.
