I need to flash the stock rom ftf file or try to relock my bootloader so I can go back to stock but either way requires me to use flashtool. Has anyone used it with the S?
It doesnt seem to work for me. It keeps looking for the device.
I'm having the same problem, I don't seem to be able to find the drivers to relock the bootloader.

I realized I did a noob mistake. I was pressing the menu button and plugging the cable in instead of the back button.
Flashed back to stock now.
OK,
after having my Arc bricked and recovered, I had what I thought was a stock 4.0.A.2.368 ROM aboard, but when I connect to PC Companion it says that I have software that cannot be updated.
SEUS gets as far as connecting the phone in flash mode and then it says "checking connected phone" and then it hangs.
How can I get back to a stock ROM that will allow SEUS or PC Companion to do updates?
I am not interested in OTA updates.
I am passing the phone to someone who is not terribly technical and want for them to be able to do the updates via the PC at least.
Cheers,
A
Use the flashtool.

use the latest flashtool and latest stock ROM..!
latest flash tool here :- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000012
Thanks guys,
but I thought that by using Flashtool to go back to a stock ROM, 4.0.2.A.0.386, that I'd be able to then use PCP or SEUS to go to the 4.0.2.A.0.42 ROM, but I could not.
SEUS just hangs and PCP says modified software that cannot be updated.
I have used Flashtool to go to the generic .42 ROM now, but what happens when the next official update comes out?
Thanks
A
lock your bootloader then update
Ah, OK, did not realise that the unlocked bootloader was the problem!
Thanks a million as they they say here!

Sorted! That worked, thanks to all!

stock`s d best
fyi, i always using fxp since im using arc `bout 2 1/2 years ago.. but, suddenlu with fxp215, its getting sucks, sucker n suckestt!! with a f**king lag, camera also, its so frustrated.. since im flashing back to stock 0587, i think its the better choice.. true, its still lagging, but n as lag as fxp.. n the stock camera juz superb.. juz my thought to share..
So originally my phone was on firmware 4.0.2.A.0.42 straight out of the box; it was carrier free too so no carrier bloatware. I had the phone rooted (kept the bootloader locked) but my phone developed a physical fault so I had to send it in for repair. Before sending it off I unrooted my phone via SEUS, which upgraded the phone to firmware 4.0.2.A.0.62.
As I understand, that firmware cannot be rooted. So I want to revert back or downgrade back to the Stock Carrier Free UK rom of version .42. How do I go about doing that, whilst keeping my bootloader locked?
Just flash a generic .42 ROM with FlashTool

Cheers man. But I don't know how to flash (to a locked bootloader phone)
Also, once flashed, can I use the zerGrush tool to root again?
If you use Flashtool it will do all the work for you EVEN with the locked bootloader.
yes you can use ZerjRush

Just noticed, there is no LT18i firmware 4.0.2.A.0.42 for the Arc S, just firmware 4.0.2.A.0.62 which is what I don't want
1) Hey.. If u see.. on the same page, u'll find a pre rooted .62 firmware.. Flash with that.. u'll not need to root it explicitly..
2)to flash any ftf u'll need the flash tool.. if u dont have it.. here is the link...
http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/
Download the flashtool for windows and install.
3)after installation check for the firmware folder under the flashtool main folder(where u have installed the flashtool)
4)now copy the downloaded .ftf file and paste it under the firmware folder. now 5)open the flashtool and click on flash..
6)now a popup window will come, select the first option of flash mode and click ok. the .ftf file will be listed automatically
7)dont change any settings and click ok
8) now flashtool will ask for the phone to be connected in flash mode..
9)so switch off ur phone and connect it to PC via USB by keep pressing the Back button on ur phone. Once it is connected, the flash tool will start and complete it work. after the flashing is done remove the phone and switch it on.. Click thanks if this helps u...

Thanks but I found another way to downgrade to firmware .42. I used the Wotan client, and then used Zergrush method to root.
Hey guys, I have a question.
Right now I'm running stock Gingerbread on my Arc S, with unlocked bootloader ( I tried a lot of ROMS ) and of course root access
If I wanna upgrade to ICS, may I do it the " proper way " via Sony Companion? Or do I risk bricks and stuff? I know I can flash a .ftf but that way I'm gonna lose everything and I have to start all over, and I did that so many times switching roms that I'd really like to avoid it if I can
So, with unlocked bootloader and root access may I use the official upgrade from Sony or I'm gonna brick everything?
Thanks in advance
Sony companion doesn't work. You should use flashtool.
Sent from my Arc S
Relock bootloder and then flash gb rom with flashtool then try pc campanion
If you are rooted on GB and then try to update with PC companion the ICS will unstable... j tryed and many programs crashed.... so bacup your data with titanium backoup and flash ICS .ftf with flashtool that is the best way..
Hit thanks if this post usefull for you !!!!
thank you guys, that's what I thought, now it is confirmed

In HTC devices, they have their RUU (Rom Update Utility) for reverting to stock. The RUU is a single exe file which restores the phone to stock firmware. In Sony, we have the firmwares in the form of FTF (Flash Tool File) files which require a software called Flashtool by Androxyde to flash the FTF file to your phone. Also, flashing of FTF files is done in download mode (volume down and a green led) and not in fastboot (blue led). Hope this helps.
