There's a handful of these usb+5-1 card readers on amazon/ebay wherever you look. I was wondering if anyone has one of these, and if so how does it work. If not, i'm planning on getting one (feel like it's a good investment.. especially for 5 or 7 bucks).

I picked this one because it has prime shipping, that's the only reason why. I also ordered another one because it looks a bit shorter. I don't know if it's picture angles or what, but here's the url to that one too.

I'll post back on this. Some are saying it's very delicate, or it gets in the way.. but I don't feel like I'm going to be leaving this in the tab very long. Just to pull things from the SD to the tab. We'll see. Hopefully I can drop a review of what I think.
Hope to get back after testing it a little.
Testing:
Firstly, I apologize if this review isn’t in some sort of coherent format. This is my first review of a product... be gentle.
Here’s some pictures so you can compare the two.
Sorry for low lighting, but i think it's good enough so you can see the difference.
I will refer to the fatter Card readers as the QQ, and the slimmer one as the ATC.
Connection and Aesthetics
Off the bat, the ATC one is much thinner. Both of the readers do not work with the ViperTek case I have unless the part holding the tab is folded back. Not a big deal for me, but I though I'd mention that. I have been treating the connectors like small children. The comments of "fragile connections" has got me worried. I can see fragileness on the QQ connector, but on the ATC one, the connection doesn't move around too much. When I plug the ATC one into the tablet, it feels like it locks better than the QQ one.
ATC connector box : weight Approx 18g - Size Approx 48*30*11.5mm
QQ doesn't state the specs, but it's longer and fatter. The width of the 2 are about the same.
Rundown of the QQ Reader:
The QQ reader has a tiny toggle on the right side of the connector to swap between USB and SD. It comes with a clear cap to protect your connection from bending in transportation.
One bad thing I noticed when testing the QQ reader is, it pretty much eats your Micro SD card when you plug it in. The first time I plugged in the reader with an SD card, I got the message at the bottom. The reader had successfully read the card. After that I didn’t know what else to really check. I popped open a File explorer and noticed a new file in the root called usbdrive. I opened that and lo-and-behold, the contents of my sd card showed up. To remove it... I didn’t know what to really do. There is no unmounting option or anything, so I backed out of the file explorer and yanked the whole connector out. Needless to say, I got an error saying “lost connection” and android.media crashed. I plugged the reader back in to see if it still read, and it popped up like it did previously. This time, I removed the SD card first. This stated that the media is removed, and everything seemed ok. Now getting to the bad part. I swapped the connector over to USB, and plugged it in with a usb drive. I think it read once, then after that the QQ connector was dead. I haven’t been able to get it to read cards or USB devices since I swapped the toggle. I emailed the company and see if a replacement gets sent out.
Update: Contacted amazon and just got a refund on the QQ connector. Marked it as defective, since it doesn't really read cards anymore...
Pros: Comes with a cap to protect the connector
Cons: It broke,
USB to SD toggle is very hard to switch on the fly,
Bulky,
Feels Fragile,
Eats your microSD card,
Doesn’t fit well with leather folding cases
I’d stay away from this one and pay a bit more for a better one.
Rundown of the ATC Reader:
The first thing I noticed about this was the lack of usb/sd toggle switch. I connected it to the tab and plugged in a microSD card (plugs in gold sides up). The MicroSD card sticks out half way, and gives a nice click feel, letting me know it was indeed connected. It’s very easy to remove the microSD compared to the QQ reader, and just based off of that I prefer this one over the QQ one. Plugging this into the tab, it suffers the same out of place symptoms as the QQ reader, but I don’t plan on using it connected too long. I plugged in the microSD card and opened up a file explorer. I was able to see the contents again in root\usbdrive. I unplugged the card, then the connector and received no errors. I plugged the connector back in, and tried a usb drive. Again, the connector picked it right up. I decided to plug in both microSD and USB to see what happened, the connector seems to choose microSD as a default, if both are plugged in. After much disconnecting and reconnecting, it’s still working.
Pros: Slim,
No tiny toggle,
Cards stick out allowing easy retrieval,
Feels more sturdy when plugging in,
Works
Cons: Doesn’t work well with leather folding cases,
No protector for connection
Conclusion:
If you’re looking for a card reader/ usb reader, and you’re not ready to dish out 60 bucks for the official samsung ones, I’d look into the ATC Card reader. It’s slim, and seems to work.
Nice post man i was actually just looking into getting one of these. The thing is i have 2 cameras one uses the normal sd memory card but the other uses the a xD card. Was wondering if you came across any that could read xD cards as well as sd.
the smaller one seems great. too bad i only have the big one.
but i found this today: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Hub-OTG-Conn...Cs_Zubehör&hash=item3cc263be5f#ht_4578wt_1139
this looks awesome and is pretty flexible with that cable.

I have had it happen 4 times in less than one week... occasionally my device somehow does a HARD-RESET by itself!!!
One time, I slightly shifted the device while it was just sitting in the cradle, and it did a HARD RESET!!! The other times it just happened when I was inserting it into the cradle or when I was removing it from the cradle.
Any ideas? This is a HUGE pain-in-the ...ASK me if I really like setting-up the device features over-and-over again. Aaaaargh!!!!!
i had this problem once... when i changed the sim card..
just make sure that the battery latch is secured properly.
Have you checked that the connector, or especially the pins on the pda2k are not bent/damaged? The design of the dock isn't great (unlike Toshiba pda's where the dock cradle is so high and good quality metal design with slide rails that you can drop the unit in perfectly and quickly) and if damaged could be shorting a power line. A collegue had this problem with an XDA and it was a chargeable repair as they say it is deemed user negligence! So be very careful docking your device!
Thanks Sunish, the battery is secure... don't think that is the problem in this instance.
lx_t ...I checked the connector on the cradle and the pins on the device and everything looks good.
Maybe I should get a new cradle? Do you guys know where I can get one of those newer cradles that allow the sync AND the recharge using the USB connection. I saw them on eBay (UK) but they were silver color and I'd prefer a black cradle to match the device. I'm in Canada though, so it's not that easy to find these things locally.
dunno if it will work, its not really fixing the problem, but try and upgrade your active sync, to v4 i upgraded to this and it seems faster and fixes a couple of fixes i had.... its only a suggestion tho..
Due to an upgrade to a Kaiser, I have the following for sale:
TWO O2 Branded XDA IIs - One complete, one lacks stylus - Both are UNLOCKED.
One, my spare second one - the battery *may* be faulty. The reason I have two is that I had issues with it rebooting when i first got it, O2 sent a replacement and neglected to send a return bag . It ended up that it seemed to be the battery, so I used the original handset but the replacement battery, and I slung the replacement handset and original batt in a drawer. After rooting it out of the drawer (where it had lain for a couple of years) the battery seems to work fine and power was still over 84%. I will run it some to check. Maybe I was just being a noob or the backup battery hadn't charged.
Both handsets have some minor wear on the corners but otherwise are fine. No loose sliders etc. The rubber cap over the headphone socket on the main one is starting to split.
Also, there is a GlobalSat BT-338 SirfStar III Bluetooth GPS unit. I should have the wall charger lying around somewhere lol, I never used it though, I always used the car charger (Which I definately have and is included). A really great unit.
Also, there is a windscreen sucker mount for the XDA. Just a cheapo halfords one, but it fits perfectly and doesn't obstruct power or headphone sockets.
Also included is a retracting mini-sync cable - USB one end, custom XDA connector the other. Get a car lighter -> USB adapter (No! You can't have mine!) and leave that in your car, then you can use the mini sync you keep in your pocket with any PC or in your car to charge or transfer files.
Also included is a 1GB SD card. It is Integral branded card, it shows no speed but it seems to have enough bandwidth to play DivX off the card
Also included are two cradles - one for work, one for home
There should be two holsters, but I mislaid one the other day, I am sure it will turn up lol.
Would anyone be interested in the job lot? May split the 2nd phone off for a spares sale, but would rather sell the lot as one.
I can provide pics, I will need to bring the 2nd cradle from work, and see if I can find the missing holster / GPS wall charger first...
I live in the UK, but I suppose I would consider sending elswhere in europe. Would be unwilling to send to Nigeria even if were is for £10,000
Offers please
I think you will get your best deaL on on ebay here.
I suggest you list them separately
Might be interested in bidding on the spare one...

I have a touch HD for the past 2 years and still have at present.
Anyway Orange offered Mozart as a new 18M contract as it was up for renewal.
First impressions are:-
BAD.
1) No standard Mini USB connection.(I though all phones were standardizing)
2) Why have said connection in side off phone. (This means no neat cradle on desktop)
3) No Mapping software. Also my Memory Map will not work.
4) No easy way to SD card.
5) Contacts transferred but lost pictures?
GOOD
1) Screen and colours are excellent. Better than Touch HD.
2) Software is brilliant so fast and slick. I really like it. (Wish my PC had this front end).
3) Zune works OK.
Nice to have:-
1) Memory Map.
2) Windows 6.5 apps could be recompiled to run on Windows 7 phones.
3) Clock was bigger on front screen say a block with a clock.
4) Enlarge text option.
Will I keep it?
Still thinking of trading both in for a HD2. But if software I need was coming I would stick with it.
PS Anyone know how to get video recorder just keep getting camera.

Standard is Micro-USB which your phone clearly has.

i assume he means the USB connection is either on the top or bottom of the phone as opposed to the side. therefore, a phone cradle for the phone is unlikely of being produced since it can't be slid into the cradle sideways............is my guess.
Don't see how this is a phone negative...someone will make a cradle for it eventually

Ah...okay...the Xperia X1 also had the USB port on the right but there have been cradles eventually. There is an extra cable to plug into the USB port after sliding the phone into the cradle. In my opinion this is a benefit because I do not want to charge the phone everytime I place it into the cradle and with this extra cable I can decide if the phone should be charged or not.

If it's anything like the HD7 he means that it isn't in the centre of the phone which means generic cradles can't be used.

Yes; annoyingly, even though Mini-USB emerged as a standard over the last few years, and even though the reasoning behind the formal standardisation was to reduce the number of chargers that had to be produced and which ended up in landfill, the companies involved decided to use variant of the standard Micro-USB instead; dismissing the opportunity to gain a head start in their quest by utilising the enormous number of phone already out in the world towards their goals.
And that was all one sentence.
However, the decision was not voluntary. It was requested by.. I forget who. Some governments I think. So, why would they want to use an existing standard when they can sell more accessories by using a different one? Apple are in on the deal too, so the next iPhone should have a Micro-USB connector.
In their defence, Micro-USB is probably a better choice than Mini-USB as devices are sure to get thinner and the Micro-USB socket has a narrower profile.
My Samsung Galaxy S II (SGH-T989) phone will not detect my sim card. This started happening after I opened up the phone and nearly broke it trying to remove the "motherboard"? I know I caused it, but the problem is I don't know what it is I have to replace in order to fix it.
Below are some photos that could possibly help. The first photo, the part highlighted by the yellow circle, that part was bent off when i tried removing the board. Don't know if that would affect the sim card or not
The next photo, this cable I'm not absolutely sure what its purpose is for. This is not the original cable, the original cable was broken off somehow so i bought a different cable off ebay. Not sure how this affects the phone.
It could be the sim card and memory card part entirely except its hooked in fine and I have no other reason for it to stop working.
I don't mind buying parts except there's not much for sale. The only parts for sale ANYWHERE is the sim card and memory part and the usb port.
So my question I guess would be what exactly could be causing this sim card issue considering the actions I've taken with opening my phone?
If you're not familiar with what error I speak of, it's when instead of the bars you see a BLOCKED icon.
Any help would be great, thank you.
So I got one of the Meenova microSD card readers, and I am finding it works pretty well. I have a 16GB Nexus 5 so don't really have alot of room for media, and I have a very large offline collection of video and music files, and needed some way to use them with the phone without using up my app space. The Meenova fit the bill.
The unit comes with a USB interface that essentially turns your microSD into a USB flash drive. It also comes with a keychain latch so that you can keep the unit on your keychain, and simply pop it in when you need it. It is quite small and doesn't protrude to the point that the phone is difficult to handle. Much better than an OTG with a cable.
I am using Nexus Media Importer since I am not rooted, and am using a 32GB card in it. The website says that if you are rooted you can use StickMount and access SDXC 64GB cards. My 64GB card wouldn't work with Nexus Media Importer as is, as it only supports FAT32 and not exFAT. That's a software issue, though, not a hardware issue.
This little unit solves a big problem for me and gives me at least a reasonably sized media library on the go that I can't have due to the phone's limitations. I can now carry a dozen or so HD movies along with a pretty decent music library and not eat into the phone's storage at all. For the price you can't lose; it is possibly the best $12 I ever spent.
http://www.meenova.com/
already 2 threads about it here and here
Yup, I have one and it's pretty awesome. It works on my Moto X natively, but works just fine with stickmount on my N5. One of the best accessories I've ever bought.
Yeah there's already two threads about this. But just so you know you can format the 64 gb as FAT32 and according to other people that works.
