Hello,
I've bought this phone to my father about one week ago and I've performed the Stock ROM OTA upgrade just after the purchase.
The problem I've encountered with my father's phone is that sometimes it freezes even if I'm not doing anything heavy load. For instance, during a widget change on the home screen or a similar operation.
Then the phone rebooted itself automatically, after a freeze.
Sometimes I have to reboot the phone manually (forced switch off).
Many times Skype FCs also happen.
Sometimes instead, it is smooth and fast...
Before switching to a Custom ROM, I would like to know what the problem could be. I would leave the stock one installed because, just in case of warranty return, I could be not available to reflash the stock ROM and unroot the device for my father.
These are the characteristics:
Android: 2.3.6
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-perf-I8150XXLA2-CL869026
Build: GINGERBREAD.XXLA2
Device storage memory: used: 190MB, Free: 0,88GB
RAM: 151MB used - 139MB Free
Can somebody help me?
Hi.
I had this problem with a custom rom, not with a Stock.
If you like, you could try flash with ODIN a Brasilian Stock 2.3.6. Has English and work good. A had 2 or 3 lags and restart but now its stable.
I recommend a Factory Reset before install other ROM.
if you like, sent a PM and i will sent for you a Google Docs (more fast than hotfile.com) link for this ROM.
Thank you but I need a ROM with also the Italian language this time.
So, if you say you had such issues with a custom ROM, could it be a hardware issue? I know I didn't buy a HTC device like mine ( ) but a typical usability would be appreciated even on this device.
Did you have done Factory Reset before you start to use SGW and install first apps? It is recommended for branded ROM.
I didn't do the factory reset, neither after the purchase nor after the OTA upgrade.
hey... you have some problem with me... it freeze and reboot itself.. now i wait my SGW back from factory... hahaha
Its happened alot to me even after a factory reset and the only reason why (or so i found) is because of low ram (twlauncher(default)is the main ram hogger) but apart from that our phone has no other issues *off topic* but the GS/GS2 has soo many more issues then ours amazingly enough. *on topic* id recomend using something like go launcher EX or spb shell to minimize that problem from happening again. Gmaster out.

Go ahead and use a custom rom. The crashes/reboots wont efect it the only thing that might is sudden battery loss/low battery

Do you mean that changing launcher solves the problem?
Am I correct? And how can I disable the Stock one?

This is the last chance for me. If possible, I would avoid to flash a custom ROM on this phone for now unless I'm "obliged".
I don't think you should have to flash custom ROM...perhaps custom Recovery!!!
Do you still have Stock Recovery?
It is advisable, the get a lot more options, to flash ClockworkMod Recovery....via ODIN
There is an option there called "fix permissions".....
which you can use to literally scan all files on your device, and reset the linux permissions on your apps....these can become corrupted after FW updates....
First, make Nandroid Backup of current ROM in Recovery!!!! to be safe!!!!
allow the script to finish in recovery, then reboot system....
this "may" fix FC and random reboot issues...
you will need Root and CWM....both available on threads in the Forum

Yes I still have that.
Mmmh... file permissions? It sounds like an odd fact that the OTA upgrade breaks the file permissions. But you maybe right!
The problem is that I would like to leave such phone as much Stock as possible, without rooting or flashing anything not stock.
Stick to stock FW n go V6 SuperCharger it will settle all issues coz it will be used by your love one...

Maybe??? There is no doubt, just use Google, and search for Android Fix Permissions....it can fix your problem!!!
It is well known that OTA upgrades only necessary files, not all files, to keep download as small as possible!!!!
permissions can be broken by any variety of reasons, and it don't cost anything to run fix_permissions script....
here is a little description, from Cyanogen, which gives more info....which applies to CM of course....we do not have fix_permissions script in Stock ROM, so no Terminal option.....but the script is available in XDA, which can be flashed through Recovery.....
If you don't wanna Root, or install Custom Recovery, I just don't know!!!
You can keep a copy of everything "as is" with Nandroid backup, which you could restore with Clockwork, then wipe Clockwork by re-flashing Stock Recovery with ODIN or adb.....it's in the Forum somewhere....and then UnRoot...it is also here somewhere......then you would be back to exactly what you have now.....if you are worried or need to return to Sammy

V6 SC will help with Memory Management, which can prevent FC's of Apps by System looking for RAM.....I also would advocate it's use......it's very good.....
but it don't fix everything, it is not some kind of Super-cure!!!
Thanks a lot!
I did understand now!

Yeah, that is from Stericson...the guy who has best Busybox Installer on Market!!!
I got it, it is good........but it is only if you know which App(s) are misbehaving!!
And requires Root on device!!!!
He promises to update for all Apps, but has not happened yet.....
Honestly, Flashing CWM Recovery is eezy peezy......and going back to Stock Recovery is just as eeezy!!!!!
You can do with ODIN, no need to Root, and it will allow you to back-up current ROM...which is always a good thing!!!! And, importantly, you can run Fix Permissions in Recovery
Ok ok...
and what about the SDCard issue, since it is not "properly detected" as XXGB ??? I've read that a fstab modification is needed for that. I know it is a little bit OT here, but since you told to make a nandroid backup on SD, I would like to know if there is something to set up with the SD before doing anything.

unless you have custom rom installed, which has implemented mount-point swap in vold.fstab, I don't know what you mean here....
CWM recovery provides for Nandroid Backup to be saved either to:
SD.....[Internal SD/USB].....select backup in Nandroid Menu
or External SD....select backup to external sdcard in Nandroid
Perhaps I misunderstand you???
I'm sorry I made a mistake.... it seems all right now.

yes i do have Clockwork mod
That app, I believe, is used to grab specific versions of the mod for specific phones with specifc ROMs. Unless you're running the rom required, it will lock the phone like that. You will have to restore a backup through clockwork, you did make one I hope, or adb push the original file back...otherwise its time to wipe and reload.

I've had the battery mod cause me headaches before. CWM restores won't work, you'll need to Odin to revert back. Something to do with where the battery mod files write to.

Hi guys, I need a little help if you don't mind. So I rooted my girlfriends Incredible (slcd screen if it matters at all) with Unrevoked 3.32 and I tried to install Rom Manager so I could flash cwm and install CM7 just like I have on my Inspire 4G.
I had to uninstall it because it won't run. Even when I restart the phone Rom Manager crashes as soon as the phone boots up and I haven't run any apps whatsoever.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening so i can get CM7 installed on this phone. I can boot into recovery by cold booting with Volume - pressed with the power at the same time but I'm scared to just flash CM7 on there without cwm in case it bricks the phone on her.
Thanks

You said you can boot into recovery. Look in the advanced options, you'll see it there also.
Cool. I had no idea about that option. Thanks man
Uninstall it and go from there. Its not permissions, though you can run them in recovery too. The most common way to brick a phone is pulling the battery while flashing something. make sure everything you flash is for her phone and always wipe data/dalvik cache, factory reset before changing roms after doing a nand backup so you always have something to go back to

The fix permissions was to try to address why Rom Manager was FC'ing. Fixing permissions often fixes FC's for me so I'm not really sure how you can just brush it off as not it. Perhaps you can enlighten me why anyone would bother running it if it doesn't do anything?
Didnt mean to hurt your feelings also didn't say not to run it. Just went through this problem on my inc and it was not the permissions, it was due to using an incompatable recovery
If rom manager is corrupt what does that make the permissions it contains. do you think the recovery contains diferent ones?

You didn't hurt my feelings. I just thought it was interesting that you shut it down as if it wasn't a possibility. Apps aren't a self contained entity, they rely on other parts of the OS too so the FC on Rom Manager might be a symptom of permissions issues in another part of the OS such as libraries, config files, directories, etc.
He never mentioned being able to even run it after installing it, let alone get a backup out of it.
You don't need to go through rom manager to run a nand backup and no we obviosly don't know all of this guys problem other than I'm sure his girls pissed for messing with her phone when he doesn't know how to troubleshoot

good luck OP
I booted into recovery last night, fixed permissions, reinstalled ROM Manager and it all worked perfectly. Now the only other problem i have is my mobile data on the phone. So we originally bought this phone off Craigslist and found it had a screwed up MEID, so i successfully cloned the MEID and ESN from her Palm Pre to this Incredible. Everything now works correctly except for mobile data/web. The phone, WIFI, and Bluetooth all work great but unless she's on WIFI she can't access the internet.
I have the mobile data option checked in the Wireless & Network settings but it still doesn't go online. Can anyone PLEASE help me figure out why i have no mobile data on this phone??
Thanks guys
Did you dial *228. Option 2 afterwards?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Yes, i did *228 option 1, and *228 option 2 after i did that.
Does anyone know (1) what a PRL is and (2) if PRL's are different for each phone on Verizon's network or if PRL's are the same for every phone on the network?
To my understanding the prl controls how your phone communicates with the towers. I would call Verizon..can't hurt..you may need to ruu.

Hey I got my phone rooted, so I installed Titanium Backup, and then I uninstalled the stock browser, the download manager, and also android.downloader or something like that. And I broke my phone - now Google Play just crashes instantly.
I've tried reinstalling the firmware, and resetting to factory, but it's still the same.
Is there anything I can do, other than take it back to the store?
Help!!!!!
EDIT: It gives the error "Unfortunately the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped."
did you do a nandroid backup?> if not we need to know the exact application you deleted. future reference DONT DELETE. just freeze then its just a simple unfreeze and a freeze also stops the app from running. you will not get more available memory by doing this because this is on a different partition. Also never delete or freeze anything referring to com.android they are core funtions that are required for your device to run properly.
You deleted a process?!
My money would be that android.download or whatever process you deleted was required for Google Play to work. Hopefully you made a Nandroid before modifying processes. If not, you'll have to flash a stock ROM to get it back.
Alternatively, if you backed up system data with Titanium Backup, you might be able to find the process in there and restore it.
Echoing drksilenc, don't uninstall things through Titanium Backup unless you're positive it won't mess something up. How can you be positive? One, deleting processes always causes problems. Even freezing them can be messy. Don't do it. Two, in the case of an app, you'll know it's ok if you've had it frozen for a week or so and the phone hasn't acted up. Even with system apps, though, I recommend freezing rather than uninstalling. It's safer, and you never know if you might want/need that app again.
It gets worse.
I went down to the Bell store (my phone's actually from Bell, but they're similar to the AT&T ones, right?) and they wouldn't exchange it. So I tried going into the Clockwork Recovery, and wiped all of the little folders in "Advanced Settings." Because I noticed that Bell's add-on apps kept coming back, why weren't the other ones I deleted? And now it's a useless brick, says SAMSUNG and that's it.
Brand new one-day old superphone, totally wrecked. I don't even think there are any stock ROM's out there for this thing yet.
I'm a meathead.
I'll try reinstalling the firmware again that I did before, maybe I'll get lucky.
Nope, still nothin'.
So now I'm going to do something really crazy. Somebody on the interwebs says you can flash the SGH-1317M with the stock rom for the GT-N7105. Says it's the same thing except it's the international version and that it's even better.
I went to samsung-updates.com and searched for the Note 2, and sure enough, it's on their list of ROMs for the Note 2. So I'm downloading the GT-N7105, and I'ma gonna install it, unless someone here tells me different!

Just flash any rom in the android development section usinf twrp or cwm, it will rebuild /system and fix any issues. In the future dont delete or uninstall system apps, just freeze them if you think yiu dont need it. Freezing stops the app from running ans taking up any cpu or memory so its almost as good as deleting (it still technically takes up space but this phone has plenty of space) with nine of the dangers. If something stopped working like play store, youvcan defrost the apps yiu froze easy enough.

I downloaded CleanROM Lite 1.0.zip, put it on the SD card, and used Clockwork Recovery to install it. The installation went without a hitch, but trying to boot the phone, all I get is the SAMSUNG logo still. So I did a factory reset, wiped the cache, wiped the Dalvik cache, and did "fix permissions", but it's the same.
So I'm downloading the other ROM ("Stock Root - De-Odex") and will try that presently.

You might have been right. I'm so used to it just freezing up that maybe I wasn't patient enough and just assumed.
But it works now! I flashed the Stock ROM, and it booted up with no problems. Then I flashed the lite one again, and it works too. So now I'm going to try the other ROM on the dev page, see how it looks.
And it's still rooted, so hooray!

you REALLY need to do ALOT more READING, and ALOT LESS Flashing...
Ok so here's my situation, Last night i performed a backup of my current rom (AOSPA) and when it finished and booted back up my phone became unbearably laggy. This isn't a rom specific problem either because i've tried wiping and clean flashing several other roms that hadn't given me this problem. I've also tried the Lagfix (fstrim) app which doesnt seem to work (Gives an error message then grays out the button and says "Not Supprted").The only way to get rid of this lag is to completely unroot and install 4.0.4 then root again. I had this problem about a week or two ago also. i was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. If so, Is there any way to get rid of it without unrooting? Thanks In Advance
have you tried to flash the stock image from google? I had the same issue for my nexus 7, flashed factory image and all lag is gone, feels like a new tab again.
So going to atock 4.0.4 fixes the issue correct? Id suggest wiping the entire phone system and all. If u search my profile i have a one click flash to stock tool. It deletes everything but will put u back on 4.0.4 the day it came out of the box. I think ur issue lies somewhere in storage.
If u have the gsm nexus then uncheck the radio flash boxes if u decide to use my tool.
Also my tool contains the stock image from google. No hackery of any kind.

Thanks for your help. I seriously hope this is the last time it happens. I think I have narrowed down what the problem is. It seems that whenever my internal storage gets below 1gb this happens. I believe that was when it started last time. I guess I'll just have to use less internal storage to keep my nexus fast.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
I guess you still have the lagfix-issue. Normaly LagFix should be able to recover your speed. I sometimes have a problem with lagfix not getting the root-permissions from the superuser fast enough so it considers your phone unsupported. Try this:
1. start LagFix and click on Run!
2. Grant root-permissions to it and save the decision so superuser will not ask again.
3. if LagFix fails with the unsupported-device-error go on...
4. quit LagFix and clear its DATA from app-management
5. start LagFix again and click on Run!. Not it should run OK without asking for root!
Hi Guys,
I'm from India and I updated my Xperia S[LT26i] to JB 4.1.2 a week ago via Sony Update Service. The build no. is 6.2.B.0.211.
The phone was working PERFECTLY till today. It was a joy using the phone and suddenly today morning, the phone rebooted, all the apps and games and tweaks that I'd installed on my phone were gone. The language had automatically changed to Bosnian . All the wifi-passwords were gone. It was as if it restored to factory settings, without my permission in an alien language. I tried rebooting my device several times but to no avail. ALSO, all the data on my internal memory card is lost!!! :'(
There was a lot of important data, photos and files! ALL GONE!
What could be the reason for this happening? Is there anyway I can restore it to its previous glory as it was very tedious and took me weeks to customise it exactly as I wanted it.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Thank you.
P.S. - My phone was rooted before the updated, but it was automatically unrooted after the update to JB.

Settings once lost are lost , thats why everyone recommend to take a Nandroid backup of ROM.
if anything of "this" sort happen, you can just restore the backup and nothing is lost.
But your case is weird bro !!

It's really weird. And BOSNIAN?! I thought my phone was hacked or something. I have the recovery softwares to recover data, I just hope it works on cellphones since I've never tried it before. What I wanna know is, if it's a recognised bug or is something wrong particularly with my phone.

I suggest you reflash the ROM. then use DooMLoRD Easy Rooting Toolkit
Read the instructions carefully
Then Install recovery to take backup.
If this problem happens again, reflash to some stock based custom ROM which is more stable..

I am using official JB from Sony, wouldn't it be easier if I just installed everything like and customise and then take backup instead of flashing the ROM with an unofficial one?

if dont want unofficial , then flash the stock jb.( the rom u using now, flash it again, clean install)
All your settings gone ,right?
try this if you dont wanna flash,
skip the flash , use the rooting kit then install all your tweaks, customizations etc then take a recovery backup. :fingers-crossed:

I shall do that. In the meanwhile if someone else comes up with an explanation as to why something like this could happen, your thoughts are more than welcome.

So, I can't recover the files because the phone is attached as portable media player to my laptop. Recovery works only if I attach it as Mass Storage Drive. Any idea how I can do that? I remember this feature was present in Gingerbread, but never saw it since ICS.

Yes. I rooted the device as well successfully.
The phone connects to the computer as portable media device giving me access to the files but its not quite same as the Mass Storage Device.
Tried certain apps as well but nothing would work. I want to mount my phone as MSD, like a pen drive or an extrernal HDD.
Try go asetting, app, the clear data for the album and walkman app to get back all Yr picture and music. Then the rest is slowly install back
