Okay I have an incredible on the latest ota. S-on and no root. I've been filling the guide that Scotty posted and I get through the unrevoked root process until it says error is your firmware too new. What do I do? I'm lost

Not trying to be rude but just post in his thread. It's easier to have anything related to rooting GB in one location.

i'm trying to unroot
Search bezerker7 ultimate get back to stock thread. It will tell you everything you need. It's in the Development forum.

I'm sure it's a basic/silly question but if I just run Unrevoked3 is it safe to assume I end up with a S-OFF rooted stock phone?
No. You ****ed yourself. Do you know what root or s-off is, or what you've done?
What does your HBOOT say?

Wow that is basically a rude asshole of a response. I have been rooting phones for a couple years so yeah I know wtf I am doing... just never used unrevoked before . if all you were going to do was make rude unproductive responses you shouldn't have wanted your time.

And BTW it's hard to **** yourself when you haven't done anything yet....perhaps u should have read the question more closely....in particular note the use of the word if..

Yes, if you use Unrevoked your phone will be both rooted AND S-OFF when the procedure is finished. Just don't touch your phone while it's running. It will reboot at least a couple of times during the process. Just be patient.

You're correct. And I apologize. I misread your question, and was being a sarcastic jerk. Have you read Unrevoked.com? Not only will you get s-off, it is reversible with a flashable s-on zip. Just don't be 2.3.4 with s-on, or things are tough. AKA accepted OTA.

I had 2.3.4 s-on and he is right took 2 hours and a combination of Adb, downgrade, pushing files, gingerbreak, more Adb, and finally about 20 runs of unrevoked, this phone is unbrickable. But man it took awhile to figure out since after doing Adb you could only do it once, and it didnt work first time so had to just keep playing with it and make smart choices.
If I helped you in any way please use the thank you button

I think if you downgrade hboot and firmware far enough you could use unrevoked. I think captain Throwback has downgrade PC36imgs available for that. He's got links in pretty much all the root tutorials here in the general forum.

You can always get a sd card reader and put any necessary files on it. However any method of unloicking or rooting does require PC access. Google put a stop to rooting apps quite a while back.
Koush, author of CWM, was working on a CM app store that would be able to host all of these kinds of apps... so we just need to be patient and those days will return.
So I had already unlocked the phone using HTCDev's boot unlocker. Everything seemed fine right up until it came time in this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751796 to run Revolutionary. The phone is bootlooping to the point that Revolutionary can't get the root, it fails and says hit almost any key to exit.
Any help would be appreciated, I'm about to throw this thing through the window.
is it GB 2.3.3 or 2.3.4?
try flashing a newer radio

Do you happen to have a link to one?
crap the only place its even stable enough is at the bootloader and adb can't communicate with it. I don't know what to do. This blows.
search this forum for radios. there's a thread on dev section. and what android version were you on when you tried to root? might have to use taco root for 2.3.4 I think
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda app-developers app
Well, if you unlocked through HTC you have to relock in order to s-off. Not sure if you knew that.

My apologies if this has been asked before, and if it has I would love to be pointed in the right direction. But just curious, do I need S-off to flash a custom rom after root, or even have s-off to root to begin with?
Thank you for your replies, in advance.
Well, currently as it stands, there's only one root method for this phone, and it involves s-off. So essentially, yes.

I am currently on 4.2.2, is that currently rootable? or am i stuck? (sorry for the noob questions)
You should be completely fine. Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2473644 and you'll be able to get soff with rum runner when u download the specific app use the version with .15 at the end and follow the instructions. Let me know if that worked I am on 4.3 android so I am stuck just do not accept the OTA update.

If you unlock/s-off prior to the 4.3 update you can take the update after and still get root
Ah, thank you all for your help, it is much appreciated. (Sorry for the change in account (I was able to recover my older account.)
