[Q] [Request] Extract Emoji from MIUI? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

As of right now I believe we have bigger things on our Dev priority list, (ahem ICS) but does anyone think its possible for them to extract the MIUI font, or just the emoji from it and create a flashable zip that is compatable with our phones? Not having them gave me a bit of Iphone envy...so I bought a 4 (came to my senses within a week and sold it). I think someone already created a zip but because of the whole sopa/pipa thing wherever they hosted it no longer has it for download. Thanks for help!

Have you tried Go SMS?
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

yeah, use it for emoji for text. I wanted them to be seen in twitter and the stock messaging app

I have all of the emoji png's. the problem is "activating" them. I placed them in the framework-res.apk, as they were in the MIUI rom which had emoji working, but since the iOS 5 update, this method no longer works on any rom.

Makes sense

Really? Didn't know you would have to activate the pngs to see them... Lost cause then? kinda like trying to run sense weather on touchwiz.

[REQ]AOSP Messaging apk

I change themes quite often, but only one theme that I've come across for the Samsung Epic that uses AOSP messaging as opposed the the default "Samsung messaging" (I guess you could call it), is Engraved Blues. I've used that theme for the longest, mostly because it has AOSP messaging. It comes with WAY more user functionality than the limited "Samsung Messaging." Is there anyone that could put AOSP Messaging into a flashable zip? That way, I can use whatever theme I chose, and still have AOSP Messaging. I would really appreciate it if this could be done!
I'd even be willing to learn how to do it. I usually don't request, and tinker with things on my own, but I'd need some help with this one. If someone wants to walk me through the process, I'd be even more appreciative, because I wouldn't have to ask for these kinds of things!
I don't know what you mean by AOSP messaging but Impaler's transparent MMS are flashable zips. They both look and run very well. Give one of them a try. Just download and flash in CWM.

AOSP messaging is I guess stock Android messaging. At least that's what someone told me a while back. There are noticeable differences. Probably one of the most important is the fact that with default Sammy messaging, when messages come in while I'm roaming, they are 4 hours in advance. For some reason, this isn't the case with AOSP messaging. It's really weird. There are also options for vibration types, and you're also able to change the font size of the messages. None of these options are present in Sammy messaging, AND, there are no chat balloons; just color backgrounds.
The MOST important reason I prefer AOSP is because for whatever reason, I cannot pinpoint, whenever I run a ROM with Samsung's messaging app, the phone tends to randomly restart. Ever since I've been using Engraved Blues with AOSP messaging, the random restarts are nonexistent. No reboots whatsoever! My phone has been super stable with SRF 1.1.1 and Engraved Blues. I don't know why it causes those reboots, and I don't have my messaging set to keep a lot of messages. Maybe 50 at the most.
Impaler's transparent messaging is based off of Samsung's Android messaging app and while it looks awesomely sweet, I've had the same unfortunate reboots as it seems to be based off of Sammy messaging.
EDIT: Ok, just noticed this in his thread.
These apps are the 2.2 MMS app, only about 50 times better than Samsung could have ever made it...

Maybe I should give it a try again? I know when he first started posting the transparent messaging app series, I could've sworn it was simply themed Samsung messaging?

I haven't really had any problems with what you mentioned. I would say give it a try. I think you will be pretty happy. His messaging app is always the first mod I flash after flashing a new ROM or theme. If it doesn't work for you, sorry.
I have that same problem with Swype where when I'm roaming all my messages read 4 hours ahead of time. Gets really bothersome. I can't live without swype anymore though.
Alright, here you go guys. Download the attached and flash it through clockwork and you'll be good to go.

Funny thing is that before I installed the Engraved Blues theme, I thought that the Samsung messaging app was standard Android. If I hadn't come across the theme, I wouldn't have known a thing about AOSP messaging. And what's with that roaming problem? Man, that's so annoying! How'd Samsung let that one out of the gate with that glaring problem???

Would it be safe to remove the old apk from system after flashing this? I may or may not be wrong but I seem to remember that caused problems when receiving pictures and the like.
Of course that could've just been on the moment..

The old apk shouldn't be in the system after you flash it.. If it is yes you can delete it.

From what I was told/read it is a Sprint problem with how their devices communicate with the towers used for roaming. So blame Sprint for the problem

AH, zip must only be edify.
All you have to do is go into that zip, take out the mms.apk, and push it to system/app using root explorer.. I've got a video showing how to do that

[Q] SGS2 Messaging app with themes?

Hello,
I just updated my SGS2 to 2.3.4 today and unfortunately, I seem to have lost the part that I liked the most about the messaging app: the ability to change themes. I really hate the way it looks now and would really like the plain look of one of the themes back.
Is it possible to push the older themable messaging app. to this new firmware and get the theme functionality back?
If anyone has the messaging app that supports themes, could you please pull it and attach it here so I can give it a try?
Many thanks.
+1 I miss the black theme as it goes sooo much better with my current rom. I'd be interested to know if this can be done
True. Let's see if someone can help with this
I use GoSmsPro and it has a few themes
I understand that there are alternatives available but I wish to have the stock messaging app back which supports themes I would really appreciate it if someone could pull it from their phone.
I'd like to have the stock messaging app with themes too (I wa addicted to the "funny" style..., I'm a dumbass I know...)
There should be SOMEONE with the older app
Here's what I tried:
I tried downloading an older KE7 firmware from 18th May and extracted the Mms.apk/odex and MmsProvisioning.apk/odex files and pushed them to /system/app and tried rebooting but that didn't change anything
If I try INSTALLING the new Mms.apk file it says Application not installed even if I try remounting the system as rw
Discussed before in this thread, no joy so far:

In that thread, this guy said he had a solution, but never posted the .apk:

For those of you who had trouble with odexed/deodexed, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159920
And get Darky's odex->deodexed converter and install that first using DarkyRom2 Tool (available free on market)
so annoying. i want my old themes back (especially the black one). i'm guessing the app got updated, so i'd be keen to just get the them part back in...
any solution to this?
i want it tooo!!!
there's nothing like this!!
I tried the solution posted above but once you go depdexed you lose hardware acceleration in the browser and it gets laggy as hell. I guess I'm gonna have to keep on hoping for an odex solution
You could go back to 2.3.3 , really what will you be missing out?

[APP][REQ] SGSII Stock Clock/Alarm app apk for Galaxy Nexus

Hi All, I originally had a SGSII and then sold it and changed to the Galaxy Nexus just before Christmas. Now the one thing I absolutely miss is the brilliant Stock Alarm clock, which had the options to do pre-alarms and other stuff and basically just worked and even managed to wake me up which most dont seem to do that well.
Does anyone have the apk that they could point me to as would love to see if it works in my new phone.
Thanks in advance,
GD
Just wondering if there is a way I can extract it if I download a copy of the stock ROM? I'll pop it up somewhere for others once I get it out since I've spotted a number of posts asking for the same apk.
Its good to share
GD
Hello
I was searching for the exact same thing, cause i have the exact same problem! Did you find a way to do it?
I download one other alarm app but i dont like that solution, id rather have a native alarm clock with that integration, pehaps can't we notify android team to put it as a upgrade? Also, the app ive downloaded doesnt bring me the same experience i had with gs2's alarm... I have trouble trying to waking up but that alarm clock seems to resolve it..
Please keep us informed!
=]
Hi vpena, glad its not just me
I've not had the chance yet to work out if there is a way to pull it from a stock rom, but will have time probably Friday to do the leg work. If I get anywhere I'll be sure to post it here for others to benefit from.
GD
Here it is, ripped from the ICS leak. I bet it won't work on a GNexus, since it probably relies on the TW-Framework.
Don't install through ClockWorkMod or open the apk on your phone, the zip file contains an apk which you should push to the system/app folder. You should probably know that already though.

Thanks xethor, I'll give it a shot anyway as there is no harm in trying.... I looked at Gentle Alarm but it was just too much of a faff and over complicated for what I want....
Cheers, GD
Unsurprisingly it didn't work, but do appreciate people getting involved and hopefully someone will benefit from having the apk.

When you say open up a ROM, do you mean this package can only be installed into a new ROM before being flashed?

Before flashing you can add it into the ROM yes.
Or you can just flash it.
So I tried to just take out the gallery and contacts apk's and install them on the device. The gallery worked fine but the contacts says "there's already a package with the same name already exists" or something similar.
If do this by flashing the zip will it overwrite the existing do you think?
Thanks again

What I was saying is.
Delete the same names .apk's in the /system/app folder.
Then just drag and drop the following /apps in my folder into the ROM then flash the ROM.
Aha, got ya. My only worry with flashing is losing what I've done so far as it's taken ages to customise all the sounds, icon positions etc. It's currently in a state of pure zen
Something tells me though, you're about to say "use <some tool> to back up first". in which case, will it remember where all my launcher folders, icons and sounds?

Well thanks anyways, I now have the standard gallery. Only the contacts/dialler remain. Which actually isn't too bad, except the way the Favourites and Contacts tabs swap position when you click on Contacts. What idiot did that!!

Ah!
When I get the phone I'll be working on a pure AOSP clone.
That would be fab, though there are some really nice things about this ROM, which I'm hoping will be installable since Samsung released the source of the ROM. The things I'd like to keep are:
Water unlock and quick shortcuts to phone/camera/browser
Smart alert - phone vibrates when you pick it up if you have notifications
Smart stay - tries to detect eyes just before screen timeout to keep screen on
Turn over to mute/pause (when someone rings or playing music)
Direct Call - Move phone to ear when on sms/contact and it auto dials
Power control in the notifications (better than any I've seen)
Power saving mode (toggles cpu/haptic/etc)
Scan with side of hand to take screen shot
Anyways, look forward to you getting one, both for your sake and mine
I'll be keeping the Stock Samsung ROM w/ AOSP look/apps.
thanks for this. is it possible to get the stock dialer?

Like I said earlier in the OP?
Great work mate!!
I didn't install via recovery but renaming the Samsung apps with a .bak extension and rebooting gave me the standard apps.
The apps you provided are already in /system/apps but you need to get rid of the Samsung ones first (as you said) in order to activate them.
Only thing I'm missing is the phone application would be great if you could upload that??

Try just pulling the MMS.apk from the ROM you like and putting it on your phone ... after backing up the one you have of course ...
Now of course this may not work, if it doesn't you would use something like winzip to open the .apk and pull out the images, and then open the target mms.apk and replace the appropriate images ... now this is a very simplified explanation ... You really should google .. "How to theme android apps"
Thanks watcher. I wish I could do all the things you and the other people do, just looks a bit complicated
