Does anyone know if the power hdmi connector is a mini or micro usb connector? I thought it was a mini usb like the original evo, but if it is also used for hdmi, I am not sure.

I remember reading that the evo3d is using a "mhl" port that will charge and be HDMI out at the same time, not the micro USB that the evo has.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
So I just received my Samsung branded mhl adapter and tried to use it but I can't get it to work. I have the HDMI cable plugged in (and it works) I have the original power cable plugged in to the mhl adapter. I plug that into the phone and the most I get is that the phone stops playing sound. The TV sees nothing... I'm sure everything is plugged in right. Does this not work on a dlp TV? Is my adapter bad? Or did the unofficial stock update break it?
Tried another HDMI port? Cable?

Yes and yea.
I fear the update or adapter. My buddy has a et4g. Ill try again at his house with another TV and another phone.
Are you rooted? Did you try flashing another ROM?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
not rooted but did the update.zip for the ek02 update.
Can anyone on ek02 confirm mhl still works?
even worse than I thought. My 2 Mitsubishi dlp TVs don't work for some reason.
That means no more Odin, and no more USB drag & drop transfer
tried in CWR mode mount
tried mounting normally
tried on several Win 7 machines (comes up as Unknown device)
tried on several Linux machines (it no longer gets detected)
i'm unable to do USB on the Go anymore, it was able to before
the problem started after i pluged in MHL adapter to HDMI
it still works on HDMI if i plug in the MHL
but, i can't find a way to reverse it
i tried even Wiping Data, Wiping DalviK, and Wiping Cache
i even tried flashing a new ROM in CWR
Dude that sux. It still charge tho? And computer?

i know a few guys had similar issues here before about losing USB or it not longer being detected
i just wanted to compare notes, and see if they also had this happened after doing something with he MHL adapter or something else.
yeah, it kinda sucks now, i won't be able to depend on Odin to save me any more

the Note is not stable in Tmo, i can't use it as a phone yet, not reliable enough
i also had the same problem on the Note after trying the HDMI on it
however on the Note i can still do USB on the Go
Yesterday my computer was not reading my device either, but after a reboot it was good to go.

that's definitely not it, as i'm in a computer lab, i have access to over a dozen computers & laptops of all sizes to test, and i pointed that out already on the OP message
try with different usb cables, it might solve that problem.
Did you super wipe? Also, try a USB jig to get into download.

i've no problem getting into Download mode
but the computer wont detect it when it's plugged in
as in, it does not turn yellow or green in Odin
on the USB driver it doesn't change to the ADB something something (forgot the full name)

that is the next thing to try in my list
unfortunately, i do not have another USB to microUSB cable at my disposal, nor does any of my co-workers
i have a good collection at home, so... i'm hoping one of them can save me else the USB port really got damaged by the HDMI thingy
Good luck with that...hopefully all u need is a cable

hopefully it's just the cable. Also, if you have spare Nokia CA-101D usb cable, try with that. It might work.

Hopefully, that's what it is. I had the same problem with my Transformer. It would charge, but comps wouldn't recognize it through USB. It was solved by purchasing a new cable.
While not exactly the same, since the Transformer has a proprietary port, it seems to be a problem with integrated charging/data cables being used today. The internal wires that carry the data fail, but the power wires remain functional.

are you using the official mhl adapter or something cheaper from ebay?
Sent from my SGH-T989
I had the exact same thing happen. Mine was also the USB cable. Go to ebay and order a few. I paid 10 bucks for 3 OEM samsung cables

Update
It was indeed the HTC USB cable that decided to quit on me
the faithful servant has been with me since like forever... oh well, at least it still can retire as a charging only cable. (gonna sort out the pins to get it to be detected as AC cable instead of USB csble)
tried the original one from Samsung and another one from BlackBerry and they both work fine, even the cheap generic ones from China

happy to hear

Good to hear it was the cable. Definitely better than something else being wrong.

I had the same problem with my HTC cable and I called HTC and they replaced it with another one without asking me to return the old one..I was still under manufacturer warranty.. I called Samsung the other day and asked if my cable died on me will they replace it.. They said yes, but I will have to send in the old one first so they can check it before sending me another one.. See how different company do things..crazy.

Inspect your USB pins, could be dirty, or bent. Clean/realign with care if needed.
