[Q] 1080p playback - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

just a quick question new to xplay can it play 1080p videos that are stored on sd card thanks

Yes, it can with some other player, for example MX Video Player, but its a bit laggy, you need overclock big overclock. I was tested it on 1,6 GHz because 2,0 GHz for me didn't work. Maybe with new DoomLord v11 with graphic overclock it will be smoother, you can only try

I played on my xperia play 1080p videos.

Of course, i forgot, it depents on bitrate

[Q] 1GB or higher movies not playing in ARC S???

hi all,
I have ARC S, only problem with this is I can't watch movies 1GB or higher (any format like .mkv,.avi even .mp4)),
- using Stock player/ any 3rd party player(mx/mobo etc)
- I can view it but It's laggy.
- some people can watch even 7GB without problems.
- movies less than 1GB plays well. (.mkv, .avi, .mp4 etc) on any player
Queries:
Do I need to Repair my firmware? (2.3.4 Build .266)
or
is it because I only have 8GB class 2 memory card (but movies less than 1GB plays well?)
I loved to watch HD movies on my ARC S.
any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Its a problem with memory card i believe. I think it has bad sectors.
may it can happen due to extension of video file
i cant play 1080p & .wmv movies properly
but .avi and 720p works fine
u cant play 1080p videos on arc actually.... limited till 720p...
although 1080p videos open in 3rd party video players but they look laggy always....
Maybe if you overclock your CPU you can play 1080p videos, but it's only my assumption.

Ooopss, I forget it. :S
Thanks guys! I'll try to replace 1st my memory card.
try with MEDIARC app...it faster and stronger than stock media player.
Im using mediARC for videos and movies.
Use BSPlayer lite (free) or DICE Player (paid). These two players uses hardware acceleration, while all other players like mx, mobo, vplayer uses SW decoding which results in lag.

[Q] [MKV] Hardware Accelerated Video Decoding?

Hey guys,
I was wondering if there was a way of making the Arc use Hardware decoding for MKV video.
I've tried every last tip google can give me and every single HW ACC supporting media player in the market but they ALL fail to either enable HW and default to SW or just crash all together when trying to play MKV files.
MP4 files (i.e. Youtube 1080p via WiFi) run perfectly fine with HW decoding on MX Player only if I try to watch a 720p/1080p MKV file, mostly TV shows and movies, it stutters like mad and the audio lags behind on whatever player I grab. Some players work better then others and MX player performs the best but still unwatchable.
I'm running a Xperia Arc with the CM 7.2.0 FXP052 ROM and Kernel OC'd @ 1612Mhz. On stock speed it's MUCH worse but the kernel doesn't go higher then 1.6Ghz nor do I think the phone can handle anything more then that without messing with the voltages.
So, is there any way to make it run HW ACC mode for MKV or am i and the rest of the Arc users just screwed?
Looks like I have to bump it up a bit...
Have you tried other players too?
I've never watched *.mkv files, because I always use *.avi files.
And I never had any issues with watching HD videos.
Btw, I'm using QQ player.
xperia hadware doens't support mkv but you can try another players like rockplayer and run software decoding.

You can smoothly run H/W accelerated mkv 720p videos and other formats on your smartphone using Dice Player or BS player. These players support H/W ACC for mkv, avi, flv and others.
I use Dice player to play mkv videos but not all mkv videos can be played i H/W mode and I think I know why. Developer of DicePlayer wrote in description that Xperia arc can play "720p [email protected]/4.0(some Level 4.0 file have shutter problem)" videos. From what I know scene releases of tv shows and hd movies now need to be converted with 4.1 profile so our arc/arc s can't play it. There is no need to reconvert video to change Profile Level to 4.0 or 3.1 thanks to H264 Level Editor tool. It can change level within 1 second. Tested with justified.s03e04.720p.hdtv.x264-compulsion.mkv. Changed level from 4.1 to 4.0 and still couldn't play it via DicePlayer so I changed it to 3.1 and it worked like a charm.
Don't know why but video still can't be played in MX Video Player.
I just hope this can be usefull to somebody having touble with playing 720p mkv videos.

THIS! THIS IS IT! I spent a couple hours poking around for the answer and found thread after thread of people suggesting 'hey have you tried this player yet?', but THIS IS THE ANSWER!
Thank you so much!
Hi all, I wanted to ask if anyone found a way to play 720p .mkv files (mainly TV Scene Releases) on our Xperia Arc and with what settings (ROM, Kernel, CPU Frequency, etc) and which Video Player.
I've read that you can do it with changing Profile Level of the .mkv but I am a Mac user and can't run H264 Level Editor. Can we do it perhaps with another mac-compatible application?
Thank you for your time.

Hi Nikos, could you mention again the "suitable program", because you must have deleted it by accident.
Thank you.

Best Video Format for arc S

Hey, I'm not sure if I had already posted this before but it didn't show up under similar threads.
What is the best setting to convert videos so that my arc S can play it flawlessly?
So far the settings that I've tried always makes the video a little choppy here and there. Any help would be appreciated since I really want to use my arc S to watch movies on my travels.
The settings that I need would be
1) Resolution Size
2) Frame Rate
3) Bitrate
4) What file type and etc.
Thanks
P.S. If you can share what program you use and put a download link that would be great.
i used to convert videos using these settings
resolution: 854x480, must fit arc's screen
frame rate: 30fps
bitrate: >1.5Mbps is fine to me
encoded in H.264, mp4 format
audio: AAC 128Kbps
i was using cyberlink media espresso
for freeware try http://www.hamstersoft.com/free-video-converter which supports hardware acceleration
how was the quality when it played on the arc?

Yes, you will have the best quailty playback if you set the resolution as 854x480.
Because the full resolution of arc is 854x480. If you have a video which the resolution is 1280x720, it will only play as 854x480 on the arc's screen.
mp4 is a good format of video to play on arc, too. because it can decode mp4 video using the hardware but not the software, so you can play mp4 smoother than other formats.
If you aim at best quality, then set higher bitrate say >3Mbps, but not too much because it will cause lag
I tried 1280*720 with 10Mbps @ mp4. Worked fine.
I've been using MoboPlayer and it works well. It's been playing all files that I've thrown at it without hiccups.
Today I tried to play Game of Thrones 720p.mkv video on my arc S, and it was't really smooth. It lagged a lot. I tried vPlayer and MoboPlayer, and neither of them worked.
So, what can I do, exept thah I convent video?
Sorry for my bad English.
EDIT:Nevermind, just tried DicePlayer, and it plays very well.
my xperia arc s doesnt support h264 video. is there any mod for that

i tested it on official ics and ultimate hd both rom.
many thanks

Playing Youtube HD & 720p videos on Defy+

This is for those who have issues in playing Youtube HD files and 720p files on Defy+ and to find the best tweaked settings (CPU Freq, Voltage, memory, settings etc) that enables us to do so.
I have found some interesting facts.
1) Youtube HD (1080) plays without any lag when media.stagefright is enabled.
2) When it is disabled, HD shows black screen
3) All mkv files play on the Defy+. I tried 720p, and it plays sometimes (not always...sometimes it lags and audio/video has sync issues)
Just fyi, HD enabled in YouTube isn't 1080, it is probably 480p as that is the native res of our phone (854x480).
I have found that for Other HD files like MKV and MP4, they play fine as long as the bitrate is low. Higer bitrates and weird things start to happen, like video lagging or not playing at all.
Your facts aren't valid for all roms.
E.g. on CM10 you can't run 720p yet.

Videos not working

I tried installing crdroid 3.8.5 with bfr v3 under clocked version the ROM is working fluidly but I am unable to play any video from gallery and YouTube. In YouTube only audio is Working I think the kernel messed up with my GPU drivers or video drivers because when I use MX player the video is working but only with SW codec HW and HW+ are not working as they use high resolution and and GPU but games are working fluidly only videos are not working I recently recorded a gameplay video but in kinemaster and video players say can't play video but in MX only sw decoder is playing the video
I reinstalled the ROM without bfr kernel videos are working but again smoothness is no more the games are lagging can some one share me drivers which are deleted because of kernel or it is happening because of other reasons?
