All,
First things first:
This is a VERY EARLY ALPHA. It's been ported over from the latest CDMA Sprint Hero, and it's being referred to as a FINAL test build.
NANDROID BACKUP BEFORE INSTALLING
DO NOT FLASH THIS ROM EXPECTING IT TO BE COMPLETE. I'M WELL AWARE THAT IT ISN'T.
Who should flash this ROM?
- Anyone willing to help find all of the bugs/not working HW.
- Any developers looking to help
Definitely Working/Current Features:
- Calls in and out
- EXTREMELY FAST
- Data Connection
- Network Location
- Automatic Brightness
- All apps in market
- Very interesting 2.1 Rosie layout (I don't know if the guys over on the CDMA forums themed this or not...)
- All 2.1 Goodies expected (Friendstream etc)
Known Bugs right now:
- WIFI DEFINITELY DOES NOT WORK
- Graphical glitch when sending contact types
GPS & Bluetooth are untested
I am currently working on the fixes for this ROM. If you're a developer and find the fixes, please contact me...

Awesome! On first boot now, looking good so far.
booting now, takes a loooonnnggg time
booting now..
why the nexus boot?
Hello, this version goes for Spanish heros? gsm?
Thanks
Sounds great, really looking forward to trying it. Think I'm gonna wait to read some feedback from the more adventurous guys before I flash it though
I can't access http://villainrom.co.uk/, get a server not found error. Could someone mirror it?
EDIT: Hm, it works fine from my phone...
any idea how to ifx the wifi? i can try it (maybe you can copy > past the fix behnaam send you?
should I avoid..
Clearly this is a port from cdma hero, I am on v4b2 right now and was not reflecting if it was a port for cdma or gsm, witch one is it ? Am I going to suffer any slowdowns in internet connection using the villain rom series... ? since the gsm radios utilize hsdpa they are suposed to give you quite a speed improvement for the internet connection right ?

This is a GSM ROM. It's been ported FROM a CDMA ROM, which is why there will be some hardware bugs at first, but this is definitely meant for GSM Heros.

Awesome, let the flashparty begin
thank you very much to prove.
Am I being over optimistic, but as this is a Hero build (albeit a CDMA one) does this mean we can use the kernal? Do we final have a kernal that won't kill our batteries?

Indeed it is, and unfortunately I can't edit nathan's post to acknowledge you here. I have done so on the villainrom forums (www.villainrom.co.uk), as this ROM would not have been possible without DamageControl, so thanks

A bit optimistic I wouldn't try it, as it won't work, and it can apparently cause damage by frying your radio.
So don't try it, unless someone reliable can confirm why it would be different, and safe...
How's youtube working for everyone?

It's all good. Just wanted to make sure. I figured you guys could use this and was about to PM one of you, but looks like you figured it out.
Anyone fancy an untested potential (but unlikely) solution to no wifi?
The download has not been tried, will likely bootloop, but if you fancy trying it, nandroid first!
At your own risk: www.villainrom.co.uk/trythis-signed.zip
@damageless:
you got any ideas what could be causing our wifi not to work? Coming up wifi driver not initialised or something like that in logcat.
hello, just a quick message before i go bed
rom is really go so far, only bugs ive noticed are:
already said, no wifi
same gallery rotation bug
and the accelorometer doesnt seem to work
oh yes and i just got a force close on the weather widget.
its totally stable and fast apart from that
cheers and night!
Presenting FroydVillain 1.1.1, TeamVillain's Froyo ROM (Android 2.2)
FroydVillain 1.1.1 INFO & Release Notes:
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
REMEMBER the ROM will only be at peak performance after it's been rebooted a couple of times, and when you've opened your apps once prior.
adb install won't work on this ROM, until you tick "Unknown Sources" in the Menu > Settings > Applications menu.
This appears to be a new security feature. Similarly, apps pushed to /data/app won't work either. You might not notice the issue, but the app does not get any of its permissions it should have, meaning that it is probably useless, and might FC constantly or whatever. So remember to tick the Unknown Sources box
The stock camera doesn't work properly - it takes photos OK, but it doesn't do live preview. The app "Camera Magic", which is free on the market, works fine, so we recommend that.
RELEASE NOTES:
Fixed in this release:
Multi-touch restored to improved touchscreen driver
Applied workaround for akmd running at 100% cpu utilisation (Thanks alankila)
Fixed GMail app resolution
VillainROM Updater now works
Compcache enable/disable script fixed (compcache on by default)
HTC Sense ringtones added
Issues outstanding:
Camera
Notification and chargeLEDs
Autobrightness (only dims when screen is turned off)
INSTRUCTIONS:
Coming from FroydVillain 1.1.0:
Do a wipe of data and dalvik at least.
Coming from any other ROM (Including FroydVillain 1.0.0):
Do a Full wipe, preferably including EXT.
DO NOT POST SUPPORT REQUESTS WITHOUT DOING THIS.

Enjoy, and be sure to leave any feedback
Thank you,
The VillainROM team.
dam gonna have to try this!
Sounds awesome. Just out of curiosity, is the fix for the camera live preview planned at all?
Mind making a quick list of the differences over 2.1? and is flash 10.1 planned for the near future? i remember getting it to work (pretty slow mind) with a .apk someone made.
Thanks anyway, great job guys!
How does the apps on ext work? Do widgets and apps stored on ext show on home screen? Been using the test alpha as this problem occurred in full alpha.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
Nice. I've been waiting for a fully working froyo port. The camera issue was the last big problem for me. Will probably try this out tomorrow and report back (it's late here in the uk)

Thought that with the official 2.1 out and most ROMs being based on that, I'd thought that that I would stop playing around with new roms for a while...
Well that's gone for a toss now - thanks Villain team - downloading now...
Jep TeamVillain did it again, they make my heart beat faster! Thanks again guys!

Anyone have a mirror that isn't being battered?
great stuff, worked fine off first boot, coupel more, ran even better ..
one thing ...
the phone, when a call comes in, no slider for pick up/ignore ??
you have to use the phone hard-button to pick up ... how do you ignore call ? aside from turning volume down?
aside from that, camera magic is amazing, much better than stock camera anyways, even supports burst photos... amazing!! ...
but, if an update is made, a slider on the calls coming in woudl be sweet!
love this ROM so far, very snappy, and much better than the ezhero ROM's i've been using ... although, ezhero is 2nd best .. so no offence xenoside ...
i'll defn' donate when incoming calls have slider
worth downloading this ROM ... really well done, thanks villainrom.
Are my eyes deceiving me? Holy crow 2.2 for my Hero? DOWNLOADING HELLO!
just about to install after wiping everything fingers crossed!!!
hi! like many of you i have been waiting for a clean aosp rom and it looks like we get some first taste of the forbidden fruit there. i found the following in the vibrant forums:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=757000
remember it's for the vibrant and it's alpha (no radio & other things) but i guess it should work for the i9000 as well. it's just a start but finally things are happening . i will give it a try shortly
thanks to eugene, barak and possible others i don't know of!
just flashed it and played a little bit and here is my report:
* wlan works but is slower than stock
* calling works but 3g-data doesn't
* camera doesn't work
i didn't test:
* bluetooth
* gps
everything else seems to work and is quite smooth!
quadrant-score: 859, 875, 845
very nice work for an alpha version! i'm quite excited for what's to come
edit:
* after sync and reboot wlan seems to be as fast as normal...maybe my isp f***** up (again).
* after moving /data/data to /dbdata/data (dbdata is not used by this rom) this thing is FLYING!
* everything seems stable so far
i think i will keep this for now even if data is not working. awesome experience to have stock android (again)!
Very nice to see a asop on the way. Lets hope some I9000 dev have the time to adapt this for galaxy

nope. just flash the zip with clockwork over an existing firmware (in my case JM2). first boot will take a littel longer because of odex-ing.
Great to see some work on AOSP for the Galaxy S series. I've been surprised that no-one's done anything on it before, but confident that if the right people turned their minds to it they'd be able to get it running (even if all the drivers aren't sorted at first).
I don't really have a problem with TouchWiz, considering that I'm actually using LauncherPro and like the notification bar toggles etc. However, AOSP builds make me confident we'll see Gingerbread (and beyond?) because we won't have to depend on Samsung.
Wow, this is good news! I'm looking forward to having a stock Android. Although I want to try Sense more!
Im guessing once this becomes more stable, Sense is not far off?
wow, very good news.... when 3g-data will be fixed, surely i'll try this, even if i like touchwiz, i think that the sgs will be smoother without it....
hoping also in a AOSP FROYO ROM
report after ~17h use:
* gps doesn't work
* wlan works well and fast (i had 18-19mbit before with speedtest.net, same as my pc) but the driver seems to have some stability problems when it's idle for some time...
* short radio problem before, restart fixed it so radio probably is a little instable in the long run as well
quadrant scores of ~950 but linpack of only ~6.5MFLOPS? strange! everything is running very very fast and responsive (only fix aplied is: moved /data/data on /dbdata/data) and it boots faster. both definitely better than stock!
i am wondering why almost nobody seems to be interested in this. i had the feeling that more people wanted an aosp rom since we had a thread about that almost ever 2-3 days ...
I tried this asop for few hours: slower than best sgs rom's , no data connection, wifi slow, some app errors. Still not good enough for daily use but a very promising start.
Sounds really great, but I'm on JP3 right now and it seems to have less bugs than this :-/
This is only an alpha. I'll be more inclined to test when its in beta, as will many others I think. Especially as there are some troubles with core drivers.
Does this already run on a different file system (instead of RFS)? If not, will it be possible in the future to do so?

no, it does not repartition anything.
yes, if you repartition the nand and have a kernel with e.g. yaffs2 support.
should both be possible atm with some effort...
i'm really interested, although Wiz notification bar is handy (but i could manage with standard power control widget)...i'm not able to program or do other too technical stuff, but i'd be happy to check for bugs (when it'll become a little more usable,i'm on h3g and i absolutely need 3g )
yeah, they are working on it and will soon release the source on github. i use it for almost 2 days now and except the missing data it's working fine for me. really fast and sleek. i guess that we will soon have a beta version with most of the stuff working....i think it's just amazing that this rom is only about half the size of the samsung firmware even with gapps!
although i like stock android more 2 things i already miss are the notification bar and the movie player which can play so many more formats than the stock one, but thats a small price to pay.
Can't the .apk's be ripped and installed anyway? I'm looking forward to try this when data is working!
Is this 2.1 or 2.2?

it's 2.1
hm. the apps could probably be ported but it would be more complicated than installing the apk. they rely on libraries, the custom ui stuff and probably other apps like content providers etc. the only thing i REALLY want is the movie player! it's just very comfortable to just copy some movies/series onto the device before a train ride without the need to transcode

Interested, yea. As in "interesting to follow and see if it becomes functional." At the moment it's an alpha with no 3g data, wifi issues, bluetooth issues, no camera, and no GPS.
What more do you expect with it in its current state? Sheesh.
Note: laidaxin has since released his CM7 rom over Here. It's further along and stuff, so this will probably won't change anymore
Sneak peak of CyanogenMod 7 ported to the Motorola Flipside!
Using this recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22073717
Running pretty smooth..
What needs to be fixed before an alpha release:
- Phone network
- Sound
- Backlight won't turn off
A few other things don't work yet (such as camera, GPS)
PS: I'll probably re-use this thread for release

Great! here wait so long for a Dev that could help with the FlipSide... after months of use it I am amaze about the specs (have a 720mhz cpu that could be OverClk to 1Ghz, and with a rom with system clean may I suspect that it may could have around 256Mb of ram taht with apps2sd make it a very descent droid with keyboard! )and the confidence of the harware components of the FlipSide, is amazing how well works the 3g Networks on this... really deserves a better Rom and a CyanogenMod version will be AWESOME and for sure will make the Flip shine!
Thanks for take time to dev for our humble Flips, and waiting eagerly for your release... The screenshots seems very nice and promising.
Thanks again and best regards!
Overclocking needs a custom kernel (AFAIK), and that can't be done on this device (for now).
The Defy has some sort of overclocking though, so it's possible...
The Flipside I'm using isn't mine (yet) so I can't work on it every day. Also depends on if I want to or not
I'll try to work on it tomorrow
Hi,
I had an old desire and a car head unit that didn't support BT streaming via ad2p, so when I got my new OneX, I quickly sold the old head unit on ebay and replaced it with a newer model that supported streaming. I am now able to stream over BT which is fantastic as my plays are now recorded on the phone (i use player pro & mediamonkey desktop pc to organise my collection). Plus now I can also scrobble to last.fm, which is something i've not been able to do since time began (in the car).
but now there's one thing that's quite annoying, the lack of info being sent to the head unit (track ID, etc). I did a bit of research and it turns out that the BT stack used in base android doesn't support AVRCP 1.3, which is the version of the protocol that supports track ID. Then I found that cyanogen started supporting this....
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_vendor_cyanogen/blob/gingerbread/CHANGELOG.mkdn
Is it possible for this to be included in the custom roms? I'm asking this in general first before asking a specific ROM dev to attempt to implement. Will this need an entire cyanogen base?
I'd love to see this implemented if at all possible
EDIT: oops, i think i've posted this in the wrong place as it's a question?
did u manage to find more info about this? Anybody else knows some more details? 10q

I'll have a quick go at answering, If anything is wrong then please correct me
HTC have written their own Bluetooth stack that doesn't support AVRCP 1.3 (stupid really if you ask me). This stack will be found in the stock rom, as well as all sensed based custom rom's and possibly in some unofficial AOSP roms.
The Official CM roms should have the standard BT stack with AVRCP 1.3 drafted into it, meaning that it should push the track ID's to all receivers that support it.
To answer your question: Unless HTC's BT stack can be dissected and modded to support AVRCP 1.3, or the CM BT stack can be ported over to sensed based roms (both highly un-likely as HTC's BT stack is closed, and CM's BT stack wont work on sensed based roms) then this is not possible, unless you flash a CM rom on your One X
teky.co.uk has it covered above.
the htc BT stack is (as you would expect) half complete and doesn't support anything but basic connectivity and streaming. The cyanogen mod team added this functionality around cm7 (i think). so for phones that are supported by CM, you can flash a rom built around Cyanogen and you will have track ID.
Because we cant get S-OFF, we cant flash a pure CM mod, which presumably explains why there isn't one available. There is a port in the works by TripNRaver, however the last time I checked the BT streaming was on the issues list as not working, so regardless of it using AVRCP 1.3 or not, it wouldn't work anyway.
I'm quite frustrated by this. I bought the One X thinking it would be the best (and most up to date) Android phone available. Instead i'm stuck half way to removing the HTC crap from the phone for the first 3 months of owning it. I was able to get this functionality on my ageing HTC Desire (with custom rom)...
If you can get something to work, the music player pro application has recently added support for AVRCP 1.3 on phones that support it. So when we eventually get someone to implement a new BT stack in a custom ROM, or when HTC decide to support 1.3, we can actually use the feature!
This has been bothering me for some time; I actually sent an email technical support request to HTC for followup regarding this issue.
Maybe this will be fixed by the time Jelly Bean comes out? Or possibly that could be too adventurous.
I will reply back to this thread when I hear anything from the other side. I actually submitted a link to teky's great informative post in the ticket.
This is the response from HTC when I contacted them about it.
Thanks for your patience.
I can sadly confirm, after a long discussion with a senior technical agent, that Google have not yet implimented AVRCP in there Android O/S. It would seem to be avaiable for Windows based devices, possibly due to the amount of time Microsoft have been in the mobile firmware market. But, sorry to say, it is not yet part of Android.
The only advice I can offer, would be to post on the Google official forums about this as I'm sure you will not be alone with your requirement.
Thanks for your time and for contacting HTC.

help us cm9, you are are only hope.... bzzzzzzt
maybe a ROM developer could help re: porting the BT stack to a custom rom?
Here's what HTC sent to me, I have since followed up.
Thank you for contacting HTC.
With reference to your query, currenty we AVRCP 1.3 is not supported by One X. If you see that some of the function on your bluetooth is not working its because of the compatibilty of the phone and the bluetooth.
Sincerely,
Sammy
HTC
This is the best I could get out of them.
Thank you for contacting HTC.
With reference to your query, yes, HTC is looking forward to this. However, we cannot provide any definite detail at this time when will this be available to the phone. That is the reason why as well we are creating new and improve phone here for our customer. Plese refer to our website for any update to our product and service and we do apologize for the inconvinience.

if someone created a universal zip file to flash to any android phone, that would be awesome. How in the world did cyanogenmod do it? maybe if someone asks, they can tell you how to code it into any device's rom.
some further info on this.
tbalden's CM9 port works with avrcp 1.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1706001 this rom is reasonably stable (battery drain is quite bad so far, the worst rom i've tried) BUT! it works fully with ACRCP 1.3
the CM10 port by tbalden does not work. I've posted many times in the thread and even messaged him directly, but nobody ever responds to my questions.
Given that Cyanogen mod supports 1.3, i'd expect this functionality to be added soon as the rom develops. I hope so as it's a fantastic rom but it's a bit flaky at the moment (as it's alpha)... if you really need avrcp 1.3, the the above linked CM9 is a decent compromise.
I'd still like an answer on how this works? is it a driver? can it be packaged and added to any rom? I think not to be honest but would still like to know.
Really can't wait for this feature!

Yes, agree with u guys and really need a package that supported to install to stock ROM
Tks and appreciate for any Hero help to do this!
this functionality is now in CM10. i dont think it can be ported to other roms as i think it has some dependency on the kernel? (but what do i know?)
I've been running tbaldens CM10 for some weeks now and it's very stable
I also would like to have AVCRP 1.3.
As far as i understood the bluetooth stack must be compiled with the kernel. The blueZ stack does support AVCRP 1.3.
But we need a custom kernel compiled with it?
I now also wrote a support inquery to HTC. Perhaps they will implement the complete bluetooth stack if enough customers ask for it.
Regards
Kai

its in the main CM10 roms now.
Sorry to dig such an old topic. But has anybody been able to find some patch to get this feature on sense 5. I feel sense 5 is awesome, (sorry to sound selfish) cannot switch over to CM10.. is there anyway I can get it .
on ARHD 31.2
If HTC has been blaming google due to this feature not being available in android itself, I feel cheated.. because have seen this same feature on all other android devices.
Also this feature is there in HTC one , the current flagship with sense 5.. One of my friend has it. If only some dev can compare files and bring out some patch for OneX.
