I think you mean hspda, wich is the same as 3G and works.

I don't know . may be HDSPA can make your internet so fast
from China

It's HSDPA and HSUPA you're looking for. (Combined together: HSPA)
The Gio's radio supports HSPA and speeds up to 7.2 Mbps. Says so right on Samsung's specifications page.
The 3G mention in the features list refers to HSPA (you may also see the acronyms UMTS and WCDMA, they essentially refer to the same thing), as EDGE is 2G.

[Q] is there currently a rom that supports hspa+ on the G2

hey so i was wondering amongst the plentiful custom roms we have out here for the G2 is if any of them uses HSPA+ speeds or "4G" speeds i got a friend that needs those speed for data tethering and im not sur how to go about the search since im still new to customizing android phones (ive had the inspire for less than month rooted and flashed like 6roms so far) so if any1 knos if there is or isnt one please let me kno
The CM 7.0.3 shows me a "H" symbol when in 4G mode. My phone has been pretty quick, so you might want to start there.
G2 is a hspa+ phone so whatever rom you use will support it. The real question is "is there hspa coverage in your area? ". If you don't have coverage you won't get the speeds.

Yeah, the hardware natively supports HSPA+ up to 14.4 Mbps. Different ROMs just display different icons (H, 3G+, 4G) depending on the ROM.

GT-I9250 Galaxy Nexua - Fido in Canada

Hi,
Might be one of a few having the galaxy nexus GT-I9250 in Canada.. I tuned on the phone and it found Fido and it worked. I get 3g and H on the signal bar. How do i k ow if I have hspa + or 4g lte on the phone? Will it show 4g or H+?
Speed test gets only around 1 meg down...
Fido and rogers are one, according to service map by rogers HSPA+ is in Ottawa and soon LTE. Will they prevent Fido users from 4g?
Any settings I have to enter on phone to get the higher speeds? Anyone in Canada has this working?
Thanks a lot for any insight u might have...
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
forget LTE it will not work (for CDMA networks like Bell/Telus)
get the GSM version to work
The phone doesn't have LTE. It has GSM and HSPA+.
As far as speeds, you're going to have to talk to other Fido users in the same area and see their speeds (or other phones you own with the same SIM card). There may be some changes to the APNs you can do to increase speeds, again you're going to want to ask Fido users.
as for knowing how fast you are going
it's simply a matter of speed
in Canada normal H+ speed is around 8 Mbps down at best
if you seed speed that goes beyond 16 Mbps, you are most likely on "4G"
there's no real 4G if you check Wikipedia
all the current LTE / 4G technology are fake
they are more like 3.5G = H+, so "4G/LTE" is actually more like 3.75G
the real 4G is on WiMax radio which is not very popular in many places and phones
Is there a version that supports lte? All over web they say galaxy nexus lte...
If anyone lives in ottawa and has Fido, please share ur experience and settings.

There is 1 version with LTE. And that is made for Verizon USA. You're probably only going to see the GSM/HSPA+ version in Canada.
Thanks all. OK, so hspa + I will forget about lte..
How do i know if my phone is connected to hspa+?
Will it has a plus sign on signal bar. If i go to settings, then about phone, then status. It shows the current connection, what should it be? Anybody has hspa+ can tell me what they see in status in setting and the signal icon on top?
I will be happy with around 8mb

So under connection it'll say "EDGE" on 2G, "UMTS" on 3G, and "HSDPA"/"HSPA+" on 3.5G/4G/H+ (depends what your carrier wants to call it).
i believe he was speaking about the ICON indicator on the status bar
it'll be either 3G in most areas, and in really go areas you'll see H+ or 4G depending on the ROM how it was coded for the signal quality strength
once you start flashing custom ROMs you'll notice that will change too, depending on the ROM Dev, it's all cosmetic eye candy
if you want to know the real deal install Open Signal from Market
it has a nice widget that tells you the true tower capacity
It fluctuates between
Umts:3 and hspa:11
The reason I ask about the plus is that there is hspa only.. no plus and i am not sure if the hspa:11 means plus or no plus.

if there is no H+, then you are on 3G

Like I said earlier, if under "status" you see UMTS then you're on 3g. If you see HSPA you're on "4g". What that means for speeds is up to Fido.
The ROM just has "H" icon I believe. You won't see H+.
First of all, Bell and Rogers are GSM networks and they support LTE, however the phone itself only supports HSPA+ 21mb/s. Only the CDMA Verizon version of the Galaxy Nexus will support LTE.
Note: This is only as far as my knowledge extends to, and I don't accept any responsibility if anything goes wrong
Thanks for all the replies. I had a nexus one which only supports hspa, not hspa+ and i used to see Hspa there. That is why I was concerned if the hspa I am seeing is using the plus protocol which supports a much faster speed than hspa. This is why seeing an h only, or hspa in connection didn't give me a good feeling as i had it on my nexus one. Its the hspa+ that gives me the extra speed on the galaxy nexus and i wonders if its being used.
Thanks for all your help and comment guys.. I appreciate it
It seems like the Verizon LTE version will not work on Fido/Rogers or Bell/Telus (each of which seems to have their own LTE network)
If you want to do a good speed test while around the BC area, go to Whistler and then do a speedtest.net test (via the app).
I've had 6MB/s down on standard HSPA.
Thanks for the info.
I found that in ottawa if i use spedtest.net app I only get between 1 and 2. If I use open signal, another App on market, I get around 6mb/sec.
Thanks.

Galaxy Nexus works on T-Mobile 3g/4g?

Hi all. I'm thinking of getting the Galaxy Nexus on my Tmobile. Thing is, I have the GS2 and the 4G has spoiled me. I'm in NYC so coverage is pretty good. What I want to know is whether or not T-Mo's 3G works on GN. Reading about it and I have conflicting answers. Thanks.
tmobiles 3g is GSM and will work just like at&t. The 4g is LTE and will not work on the GSM galaxy Nexus. LTE is CDMA based like Verizon and sprint
He is asking if T-Mobile "4g" works and yes it does but it isn't as fast as the SII.

It certainly does my friend. As long as you have the GSM version which is pentaband. You can't use the Verizon or future att one coming out .
Right now its Verizon or GSM and gsm is the one u need.
Its capable speed is 21 versus 42 on gs2 but difference shouldn't be big at all

Yes T-Mobile has HSPA+.
The Galaxy S2 for TMo theoretically can reach speeds of 42Mbps but honestly... you won't reach anywhere near that. The Galaxy Nexus reaches theoretically up to 21Mbps on T-Mobile.
In the end, it does support HSPA+ (4G)

I put both because I realized that T-Mo doesn't have true 4G. So it looks like I will be getting this after all. I had a Nexus S prior to the GS2. Am missing that "Nexus" feel. I also read that there are different builds out. One or two are getting updates via Samsung and not Google. Which build should I be on the lookut for?

I had a Nexus S prior to this phone too.
You would want the 'yakju' build, but you can convert any non-yakju build (as long as its not mysid) to a yakju build.
If you use custom ROMs, then you won't have to worry. I honestly don't know why people want OTAs, but that's up to them. I personally use custom ROMs and custom kernels to get the most out of my phone.

HSPA+ is more like 3.5G than 4G, but T-mobile is calling it 4G.
The GSII can consistently reach speeds of 20mbs, while the SGN only gets speeds between 2-9 mbs.

It is 3.5G but it's marketed as "4G."
Galaxy S2 can reach up to speeds of 21Mbps. BUT the T-Mobile version can reach up to speeds (theoretically) of 42Mbps because it uses a Snapdragon instead of Exynos.
GN reaches 21Mbps. Not 2-9. These speeds are all theoretically speaking as we weren't talking about "real speeds in real time."
Don't understand why you quoted me and reverted everything I said when everything I have said about about Galaxy S2 is a fact.
Sources if you don't believe me:
The magenta carrier is in the process of rolling out an enhancement to its HSPA+ network that will allow theoretical maximum speeds of 42Mbps. The Exynos board in all the other GSM Galaxy S2 devices uses a separate radio that is only capable of 21Mbps. T-Mobile wants to have devices capable of taking full advantage of the newly enhanced network.

I agree. I don't understand who would be rushing to import a non-subsidized GSM Galaxy Nexus and not plan on immediately rooting it. The Verizon phones, ok, someone walked in and walked out with the "latest Android phone". Still, the vast majority of the nexus owners, especially anyone who visits xda-developers.com will be rooting and flashing if not true "you need a 12 step program" crack-flashing.

Enable 3G on this phone?

I really just don't understand why T-mobile wouldn't include the ability to connect to 3G as well as H+ with this phone. It just sucks because you literally can't do anything on edge and it's pretty much useless. Is there any possible way to enable 3G and H+ through the APN's or something. (I did search around for this but couldn't find anything) Also it can apparently connect to AT&T 3G so wouldn't that show that it might be able to connect to T-mobile 3G in some way? (unless I'm completely wrong in assuming this lol)

All of tmo's 3g is H , you just can't connect to AT&T's 3g unless you have an AT&T sim card and are unlocked ...
You will just normally get an H instead of it saying 3g, IF you can't get H then you are not in a "Tmobile 3g area" ...
TMO H+ should show as 4g, but that depends on the ROM you are using, I don't remember what stock looked like .... I know mine says H when I am on tmo 3g and 4g when on H+ ...

Actually I believe if you check the ITU standards H+ qualifies for 4g so it can be called 4g , really when it was released 4g did not even qualify as 4g ....
When you are using 4g you will see both data and standby as 4g only when on "3g" will it show "3g" during non-data usage and will show H during data usage ... (or it should , might be different if using a non-stock ROM)
EDIT: 3g/H/4g/H+ , really when it comes down to it the name does not matter, the speed of the network is what matters, they can call it "BubbaSmith" band and I would not care, it is the speed that makes the actual difference ...
and in my "4g" area, TMO currently smokes VZ/AT&T "4g" ..

I have seen those reports as well, but the ones I have seen are always theoretical speeds ...
I know in my area where VZ has LTE, and I have H+ I still get better speeds ...
One of the things, not all CPU's regardless of the radio, have the chipset support to reach the maximum, but ours is one of them that does, as does the Skyrocket ....
Where I actually live I have crappy service , but next time I am town, I will try and remember to save a screen shot of my speeds, last time I was getting in the high 20's without any issues, but I do average around 18 down and 2.5 up ....

I'm on the same boat homie. Can't figure it out. I guess it's just another amazing T-Mobile limitation.
Tmobiles 3g and 4g network are the same the 4g is actually just 3g with better antenna technology and I think a power boost. The 3g network is called hspa and 4g is hspa+. That is why att had 3g 3.5g and 4g att considered the hspa+ 3.5g because they launched their lte network as 4g. So technically when tmo launches lte it will be tmos 5g. They changed the definition of the whole thing a while ago. G stands for generation. So that is why tmobile is allowed to call it 4g because it is their 4 generation of high speed internet. There is no actually standard. like edge being 2g hspa being 3g lte 4g the way it should be.
For the roms that use the h, h+, 3g format usually 3g actually EDGE or 2g. H is 3g and h+ is 4g So the net is probally not broken it is just ridiculously slow. I hope I explained that right. That is what it seems like to me from GOOGLEING it.

Hey thanks for that info. I tested out all networks again...
4G = Fast Data.
3G = No Data AT ALL.
Edge = Slow Data.
If T-Mobile's 4G and 3G networks are the same thing, why don't I get data when the phone says it's connected to a 3G tower? I had 3G service with my previous phone and it had decent data speed. I could stream music and browse the web easily. Now... 3G just doesn't work at all.
