Hi all.
As a desire user you're sure to understand what problem I'm talking about. I've tried calibrations and testing but still my phone turns off at 18-20% battery.
Im running cm7r2 hboot with Runnymede&Bliss mix Wmjan Sense 3.5 Rom.
Would anyone please help with some clear cut instructions?
With kind regards.

hello! when my phone turn off on 15%, i plug charger for a while (1-2 min) and turn on my phone. the battery shows 10%. i use them without charging untill he show me 1%. then i plug charger again, wait till it has 100% charging and unplug. after that no more problems - it's turn off on 1-2%.

One thing: when discharging phone from 10% ... Did you let the phone turn off at 1% and then recharged it to 100% on rebooting or the moment it said 1% you plugged in?

Method that is described here is the only working solution to calibrate battery. Deleting batterystats.bin does nothing (because they are deleted every time you plug off your charger when at full or near that)

I've said it before and Ill say it again. 20% shutdown is just a problem with battery calibration, its not a problem with capacity. Even though you phone shuts down at 20% the capacity is unchanged. The easiest solution to the problem is just to remember that 20% = 0% for you and live with it. Going through a lengthy fix is not worth it imo.

Fix is not lengthy. It can be done in one charge cycle plus some elementary math if you know how to read.

Cant remember where I read the original article (think it may have even been on XDA front page) but her is another one I found after 30 seconds of using the google machine, which has some very pretty graphs that may enlighten you.
http://78michel.unblog.fr/htc-desire-battery-shutdown-analysis/
And the conclusion is *drum roll please*
"As the discharge current is constant and almost identical in all tests, it is clear that the old batteries ( Part number xx-01M and xx-05M) have both lost about 15% of their initial capacity as they stop about 15% earlier.
Why the HTC Desire ( and may be some other smartphone ?) is not able to take into account such a capacity loss?"
You are very welcome.
I installed the kernel from the battery fix i think it was version 5. Run the battery calib app. Followed the instruction on the forum. And now my battery shutsdown on 0%. I'm using Seb's Runnymede AIO v6.1 Beta

If I might observe that you're very cocky for someone who failed in his statement and then linked to the article that proves that fail.
Indeed, article is true, up to the point we all know now, thanks to theGanymedes research, why battery percentage and capacity get misaligned, with wonderful guide how to fix it easily, au contrair to what you said.

So I see two possible things at work:
a) lapsus linguae due to lack of punctuation, so even if you thought that the as it's age grows battery looses it's capacity (which is kinda self explanatory), it was not what you expressed.
b) you stated that as battery grows older, it's capacity remains unchanged, and if you can find a proof of that, you should be hired by some of battery manufacturers.
Either way, your rhetoric goes with situations where you are 100% right and can not get disproved, which you have been here. I strongly suggest not to pursue that path any longer here.

Well, making the long story short I decided not to calibrate the battery. It's a long process and terminates if the phone is charged while it is off.
I flashed a different rom and kernel. Getting 20-22hr battery (100%-20%)
My 80% battery provides me almost a full long day. So I'm happy with this. Btw thanks for the help folks.

As you can see from my capture, while on the ac charging, the percentage suddenly drops for no reason...its not like it discharges and charges back up, it drops and stays there...is this a problem with my device?
Was flashed to stock root froyo recently.
Hi,
I have same issue...
It's a rooted Froyo Stock Rom. It drops from 100% to 90% and continues charging.

It is a known issue, acutally many claim it is not a problem. If you leave your desire on ac charge (for ex: overnight) when it reached %100 and stays there for a certain period of time it starts using phones battery. Then it chrages again until it reached to 100% and the same cycle starts. People say it is to increase batterys life because contiues charging decreases battery life.
I believe it started with 1.21 update, when I was on 1.15 this thing never happened. However, since I installed 1.21 and froyo same cycle happens to my device as well.
Thanks for explanation and link!

Thanks for the reply, the only problem is in my case, it doesn't seem to charge back up to 100% after the drop. Also mine doesn't seem to discharge; it is a sudden drop from full to 90% while having the fully charged LED green. Do you think its a problem with my battery?
I hope its possible for the developers here ( or maybe at HTC ? hehe ..) to make a fix for this , as some people saying a software update started the whole thing.
and if its a "feature" , people should have the choice wether to have it or not.
I'd rather change my battery after 6 months or something like that then have 92-95% in the morning.
Same here. Not sure if HTC acknowledges this...but it doesn't seem to affect that many desire users apparently so it could be a bug.
I also have a strange problem with my HTC devices (Desire and HTC HD2).Both of them are running froyo. It seems that when leave them charging overnight, the next morning when i wake up i went to check out my phones and they happen to be at 96% charged only.I was pretty scared that my battery's starting to fail me
Found this on another forum, I have done this a few times myself (do it whenever i flash a new rom because i always clear battery stats, can't hurt). Have found that it does top it up a fair bit. Before doing this i find my desire will drop to +-93% straight off the charger, however this keeps it 100% longer and i actually get to see the numbers 99-94%
Worth a go in my opinion because it only takes 5 mins of your time and can't hurt the phone... So any minor gain from this process is a win...
Hi *******, I understand your concern regarding battery life on your Nexus One device. The following steps should significantly extend the battery life on your phone. Please connect the phone to the charger with the phone powered on, and allow the phone to charge until the notification LED is green, indicating the device is fully charged. Disconnect the phone from the charger, and power it off. Reconnect the phone to the charger with the phone powered off, and allow the phone to charge until the notification LED is green. Disconnect the phone from the charger and power it on. Once the phone is powered completely on, power it off again and reconnect it to the charger until the notification LED is green. Disconnect the phone, power it on, and use it. You need to use this sequence only once. If the issue of battery life on our phone persists, I recommend you contact our HTC accessory department directly.
Mod Edit: There have been a few reports of damaged batteries by people on this thread. There is a chance that this MAY damage your battery. Please bear this in mind if you choose to follow the instructions above.

Also wondering about this
You should wipe battery stats after its fully green (when powered off) then boot the phone back up.
You only need to do this once
I.e.
Charge till full when powered on
power off
charge till full again
boot into recovery wipe stats
boot and continue to use as normal
It works!!!
That's fantastic!
I read this topic this morning and tried immediately. Since this morning i only lost 4% until now. That's great news!

Can someone suggest me how should I go about doing this if I use multiple batteries?
I'd imagine the phone can only be calibrated to 1 battery. But if I were to use another battery, would I screw up the calibration to the original batteries?
Right now as it is with moderate usage I need 3 batteries to last me through the day. :S

3 batteries?!
What rom are you using and how exactly are you using your phone?
I have just one battery and it lasts about 2 days with moderate use.
I am using this ROM: (sorry can't post link)
[ROM] Rooted Official HTC Android 2.2 (FroYo) ROM [Market issue fixed]
With my typical usage, I unplugged the phone in the morning from the charger, by the time I knock off from work, I would have left about may be 20%. With stock ROM and a single battery, there is no way that I could last 2 days with one single charge. My main use is web browsing, RSS, Facebook and IM. My estimation of my solid screen time is about 2-3 hours.
So I bought more battery just in case, and played with custom ROMs. I ended up using up a whole battery in 4 hours or so. Definitely something is wrong here. My gut feel is that both the ROM and batteries are suspects. Being a newbie I really need enlightenment.
Is it really needed to wipe the stats? I think I've accidently done this once already... cause the battery life is much better.
since this procedure, my battery stays at 100% since nearly 2 and a half hours now and i did 2 text messeges in between and recently checked the bat about 4 times
this couldnt be possible..
i mean the battery is almost doubled in comparison to how long it lasts before
is this possible??

Exactly. And if it is like that, then use the calibration tool while your phone it on charge.
Again asking for clarifying....is you phone not charging beyond some % or is your phone not showing the charge beyond some %
?
I am having a similar problem but mine doesn't charge beyond 75-80% depending upon when I have plugged it for charging.
If I start charging at say 50%+ it charges beyond 80% but does not fully charge, and if I start at say <40% it does not go beyond 74%.
Now at this level if I restart my willy the battery shows 90+% and I can charge it to 100%.
I have tried everything wiping the battery stats, using the calibration tool nothing's really working. I doubt when I used a Samsung charger for charging that's where the electrical circuit might have got damaged or may be when when I dropped it from 4-5ft.
Since I have already rooted it I don't think HTC service center will help me here with motherboard or electrical changes.
If you guys know any method lease let me know and btw it's >1.5 yr old battery.
Thanks

This issue may have been solved, but I'll post anyway.
You can calibrate your battery when it's lower than 100% using the app mentioned above. There is an option within the app to calibrate it regardless of battery percentage, just click that option then calibrate.

It happens to me as well, but only if I turn on WiFi and let the phone use it´s online services.
Hoping that the Jelly Bean update with Sense 4+ brings some kind of optimization.
I have my HOX configured pretty much like my SGS3 and my S3 lasts 20, 30% longer and about 7ºC colder.
Same here, kinda want to change my phone again if HTC doesnt fix this problem.
do a battery calibration, app like this works https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration&feature=search_result
before the app 1 day usage = 60% of power left
after = 85% left
HTC made too much of the safty triggers for the battery if u use it lightly every day its minimizing side effects by making new one (less charge)
How long have you had your One X, OP? It takes several full charge cycles for the battery to calibrate, it's one thing about One X that's weird. I remember being completely disheartened with battery life when I first got mine - and it was horrible, pretty much like you've described it, 1% every minute or so - but only kept it because my mobile operator wouldn't replace it before making sure there is a hardware malfunction, which could have taken weeks, and I was impatient. Then I learned from xda that this slow calibration phenomenon is a thing with this phone.
I hope you're right svucinic811 I'm really getting worried here

Will this work even without rooting my phone? I'm running on Stock Sense 4.1, but this seems like it would help a lot.
As well, if you (for a couple days) go without charging your phone in the middle of the day and let it run down until you charge it again I think you will see some results in the battery life. My battery would die everyday before school ended for me (Wake up at 7:00 AM, Phone dead by 5:00 PM). Unless it was just a placebo affect for me, its worth a try.

What's forever? 3 hours is about normal, unless you're heavily using it.
You don't have to calibrate Better Battery Stats. Just charge it up to full, then wait for it to happen again. Open it up, choose Since unplugged (obviously you should not have plugged it in at any point of time since the full charge), then take a screen shot of Kernel Wakelock, Partial Wakelocks and Process.
@Rohin, USB Cable quality plays a big part as well. A cheap rubbish USB cable even connected to the wall socket charger can only charge at 300+mAh, while a good one can charge up to about 750+mAh. About 85%-90%, charging usually slows down to about 200-300mAh, then slows down even more as it approaches 100%.

Hey there guys, fellow developers, I have a problem with my battery. To be honest I can't really tell if it is slowly dying or whatever.
I bought a used HOX and I am having weird battery behaviour. As you can see, I can get these stats over a day. (see attachment)
The battery percentage often jumps over time. When I'm multitasking/playing a game/surfing net, the battery often stay for example on 62% and after 5-10 minutes it immediately jumps down for example to 50% without showing proper battery percentage.
And vice versa... When I reboot phone with 30% it will reboot and then I'm noticing battery percentage jump but to the other side. (for example to 35%)
Today it jumped from 4% to 61% when rebooting. Lol?
By the way, charging is too slow and when I'm using the mobile at the same time it doesn't even charge up.
Sorry if this is solved somewhere else on forum, but I could not find that.
Thanks in advance guys. :fingers-crossed:

I am also expressing the same battery problem.... Does replacing the battery solves the problem because this will be again 1800mAH battery???
I kinda have the same problem. With "kinda", I mean the battery meter will sometimes drop down in 4% or 5% increments (ex. from 56% to 51% immediately).
Thinking of changing the battery too. If you did change yours, be sure to let us know if everything is back to normal.

Yeah, I am experiencing same issue.
Well I did not change it yet, but I am thinking of changing it tho. Will give it one more week or two to see if it gets better or some miracle happens. Hehe.
Anyways, I will update this thread when I will change the battery to let you know.

Okay, hope you fix your problem. Be sure to let us know.
As for the slow charging, if you're using a USB cable, you could try a custom kernel and enable "fast charge". The phone will charge with the same speed and voltage as an AC adapter. (It will disable access to your USB storage though until you untick "fast charge").
Even with fast charge I'm facing same problem like all they do ...
