Yes, I am a noob. Yes, i did look through other posts for an answer.
Here's the situation, I have a T-Mobile Sgs 2, I need to unlock it for a different SIM. The phone is rooted, the superuser app is there. I would download an unlock tool, however, whenever i try to "Add a Google account" to get to the Market, I get an error "Can't establish a reliable connection with Google servers" (did this on a WiFi connection, many many times). So I'm left with one option, to get the code myself from the nv_data.bin. I have the UnlockCodeGen program, but I need to get the nv_data.bin somehow, and i can't find the efs folder in any of the phones directories. How do i extract that damn nv_data.bin? Any info is greatly appreciated!!!!! please, get back.
try 7zip you may also need to try unyaffs app for your OS if it is a partition image.
Both apps are free and easy to Google

Also some roms don't come with gapps pack. Visit goo-inside.me to download gapps zip and flash using recovery menu. Then try logging in to Google.

Could you provide further info on that second post? I didn't quite understand what to do. Thanks
Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the method of unlocking older Galaxy class phones by editing the nv_data file would not work on the SGSII.
If thats true could you provide a different way to unlock it? :/

Okay, you will need to contact T-Mobile and ask them for your unlock code. None of the programs out there work for the Qualcommâ„¢ based Samsung Galaxy S II variants. If T-Mobile doesn't give you the code, because you passed the 90 days, go to an unlock web page and pay them. They will give you the code.

Good evening gentlemen.
The Galaxy S and all its variants have an unlock tool, working on a simple method of fetching the code from one of the files on the phone.
I have also seen that some folks who couldn't quite get the easy method to work would actually change some things in their nv_data.bin, which also allowed them to unlock their phones.
I was hoping that some kindly dev, with far too much time on his hands, would figure out a way to unlock the Galaxy Tab in the same way (seeing as both machiens are so similar).
I will help out with whatever I can - files, adb commands, logs, etc - because I want to give my Tab as a gift to a friend, but the damn thing is locked up tight to Vodafone
Galaxy TAB unlock
I tested variant unlock process from Samsung Galaxy S by generating unlock code but didn't work. Process is based on sgux.exe tool that extract code from nv_data.bin file.
I am waiting for an alternate method to get unlock code for this exciting device.
Thanks in advance
there is a person at android.modaco.com who will get the unlock code for your device if you send him the IMEi no. (he tells you how) and your carrier and location... for a fee... 19 UK... fyi
It's in the sticky post at the top of their Galaxy Tab forum
Is there a free way to do it?

I prefer to use a confirmed procedure for using with TAB because I tried some working methods for SGS without results at TAB device.
Thanks
I can confirm that this unlock method works, see the link posted above (I even included some screenshots).
I confirmed this method works fine, my Galaxy tab (SFR reunion island) unlock great, thanks again
Yep, it works, I have my tab unlocked a few weeks ago that way but the serial number of the device on the about turn s into 00000000 .. Only problem I have found. Been using it without any glitch so far but I'm still looking for a way that does not mess the device serial number..

Thanks smithdc and helroz! This method worked great for me on portuguese GT! And it's really easy too...
Especially smithdc's guide is very easy to follow!
One thing though: don't bother to buy Root Explorer just to move/copy/delete files. A little linux command line knowledge (easy things like "cd, cp, rm" or even "mkdir" - google it if U don't know what I'm talking about) will do the trick using terminal emulator (check out at market). Also I'm using an amazing little proggie called WiFiKeyboard (market again) to use my keyboard to write out the commands on the GT!
If U want your GT rooted and unlocked this is the way to go! Thanks to all the people who have worked on this!! Cheers!
It unlocked mine but I cant get it to work right wit ATT.

Yes, I does change the serial numbers to all zeroes.
You could probably just roll back your nv_data.bin file/you have the serial on the back of your Tab and there should be a way to just edit it back in, in the future.

Well none so far, or that I can think of.
Even with warranty you could just restore the original files. Or if you had broken it so badly that they couldn't load it up then it wouldn't matter anyway.

Hi,
Yesterday and today I was trying to unlock my AT&T Note II, first, I tried by this method (bit. ly /YSiR0M), but it didn't worked, so I decided to call AT&T to see if they could give me an unlock code. As I expected, I got it, so when I went to unlock my Note 2 the phone told me "Network unlocked successfully" but kept saying in the notification bar that was blocked and could not call, send messages, nothing. I thought it was software problem, so I upgraded to the latest official samsung ROM, but as I suspected, did not work, the message was appearing again in the notification bar. Then I decided to rooting my Note II and install a Recovery to see if a Custom ROM might solve the problem, but again, nothing. I tried everything, software, unlock code, the tutorial above, and nothing. My carrier is Movistar Venezuela and bought the phone in Miami, from AT&T.
Thanks for the help, Daniel Arocha

At the moment this mod is not sticking after a reboot. I'll keep working on it to see if it can be fixed.
This mod will enable your I747 or I747M to connect to Tmobile's AWS 1700 band. You are doing this at your own risk, and none of the parties involved with creating this mod are responsible for any negative results you might have. If for some reason something does go wrong please post in this thread, and I'm sure plenty of people will be willing to help out. Follow the instructions and enjoy!
SETUP
1. Download one of the NV Data backup files from one of the links below. (Mirrors are welcome if you want to add one.) Thanks to MotoDefier for supplying and editing the T999L backup.
2. Download and install: QPST v2.7.378.zip Thanks to lyriquidperfection for keeping this handy and giving me an already great guide to quote.
3. Dial *#7284# on your phone to access PhoneUtil and select 'Qualcomm USB Settings' at the bottom. Now select 'RNDIS + DM + MODEM' and press 'OK' to return to the previous screen. Now press your 'Back' key to exit PhoneUtil. Your phone is now in DIAG Mode.
4. Connect your phone to your computer via USB.
5. Start "QPST Configuration" and select the "Ports" tab. Then click on "Add New Port".
6. Select the COM Port that has "USB/QC Diagnostic" next to it and click ok. You should now see your phone in the "Ports" tab.
7. Click the "Start Clients" menu at the top and choose "Software download". QPST software download application should open.
NV DATA BACKUP
1. In QPST Software Download select the "Backup" tab.
2.Press the "Browse" button next to the QCN file pull down and choose a save location for your backup file.
3.Press the "Start" button and wait for it to finish. Once it's done you'll have a backup of your phone's NV Data and IMEI.
Write NV Data
1. In QPST Software Download select the "Restore" tab.
2. Press the "Browse" button next to the QCN file pull down and locate the NV backup you downloaded in the setup section.
3. Press the "Start" button and wait for it to finish. If QPST says that it failed to restart your device just reboot it yourself manually.
4. That's it! You're done!
Restore USB Settings after Backup / Restore:
Dial *#7284# on your phone to access PhoneUtil and select 'Qualcomm USB Settings' at the bottom. Now select 'MTP + ADB' and press 'OK' to return to the previous screen. Now press your 'Back' key to exit PhoneUtil. Your phone is now back to default USB operation.
If you'd like to make sure you are able to use the 1700 band.
1. In your dialer press *#2263# (*#BAND#)
2. Press WCDMA Band Preference then WCDMA 1700.
3. Press the menu key and then select back. You should have an asterisk next to WCDMA 1700 now, and after a few seconds your data connection should start on that band. Enjoy!
4. To revert to full bandwidth: Press the menu key, select back, and then in the service mode menu select automatic.

Thanks to everyone working on this and the guide. I have a couple of questions. This requires a stock touchwiz rom? The other threads leading up to this one says yes but I didn't see anything mentioned in the guide. I have a unlocked phone via a code from AT&T customer support. Should the unlock remain intact after the qcn restore is done? These might be stupid questions but it's safer to ask now than be sorry later. Cheers.

Stock Rom? I don't think so... Although, I think I've read in similar threads that having a stock dialer is important for the ussd code that lets you get to Qualcomm settings. Good catch! I'll have to look that up and add it to the op. I'm pretty sure there's an app you can dl for a workaround. Both phones I did this on were running rooted stock, so I didn't think about it.
You should not lose your unlock. I unlocked with this method and did not lose it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2176721
If somehow it goes away, the above method has worked for me 4 out of 4 times already on 4 different phones.

First, yes stock rom is required, or at least one with the dialer codes in it which are touchwiz roms. Not being as familiar with samsung touchwiz I could not tell you if there are roms based on it that would still have the dialer codes.
Second this will not change the sim lock statues of the phone, I am glad that you linked to the unlock thread though, might want to add it to the OP because really if you want to do this mod its because you want to run on tmo right?

As long as your not flashing a modem, and most roms do not have a modem included, there should be no problem, it should stick after the new rom is running.
I dont have mine yet to do testing but I like stock like roms, such as cm roms, so I will be testing this extensively when my phone gets here, probably wed.

Hello users I have recently bought a new T-Mobile LG Optimus F6.
For those of you who may have just purchased one or need one rooted and or unlocked here is how to do it.
Root:
Download MotoChopper.zip that is attatched at the bottom.
Then place your phone in Debugging mode. Also check unknown sources in security.
Unzip the MotoChopper and look for "run.bat"
Once that is all done you should have root access.
Unlock:
I use Blowfish Unlocks. You can use who ever you prefer.
Dial *#06# and that will be your IMEI number.
Next submit for the code and wait.
When it comes back use: SIM_UNLOCK=00000000000000
Now to enter the code you have to put in a non supported sim and dial 2945#*500#
Then choose Network Unlock and enter your code. If the first code doesnt work do not panic.
You have 10 attempts and you usually get back 5 different codes. Try them until one works. But to be sure double check that you submitted the right IMEI to begin with.
Enjoy
works

Is the rooting all that is needed to enable tethering without the paying of an additional fee to T-Mobile? Basically being held hostage....... and will the phone be capable of OS updating in the future?

what's the difference T-mobile v MetroPCS
Metro sold me the F6 based on the fact it works on the T-mobile networks LTE. However, I am having a hard time living with an unrooted phone so I'm hoping to use motochopper to root. But someone said it will not work. Is there really that much difference between those sold by T-mobile and those from Metro?

You can root with the vroot method.
There's some questions about what it does exactly but it does work. I should point out that the program and its cousin program are under community investigation due to possibly shady dealings with pulling and pushing files. Its cousin program (kango or something) Has been shown to pull imeid off phones and apparently send them, unencrypted, to a Chinese server.... but it's the only thing I've found to be a proven working root.
Can't unlock boot loader so no custom roms but you can debloat.
I've discovered that both my l9 and my f6 hold onto the storage allotment for moved downloads...
Not sure if you get my drift...
If you download a file to internal and move it to sd it still shows up in "downloads" when you check the storage in your settings.
To solve it open settings/storage/unmount sd and then open downloads under internal storage and delete files you know you moved.

I know that vroot works. I've been told cydia works. You need to manually install superuser though

Hey guys,
I've been talking to Sprint recently to get my phone unlocked, the problem is I don't have any idea who this phone last belonged to (i.e. Who's account to which the phone was last registered to) as I bought this phone from Pakistan. I was wondering is there any way I can dig out the account authentication pin codes, numbers and security questions of the last Sprint account of this phone? I don't want this phone to get locked and I'm looking forward to update to 6.0.1 as well.
Help is highly appreciated.
Regards.
Hey man... I don't think theirs away to hack into sprint to get into an account... But theirs away to unlock your device without contacting sprint & without paying early termination.. Search for galaxy tools apk v3.1.5 & galaxy tools apk v3.1.8.... I think you can figure out the rest.. Plus in addition to that.. You will get your msl code to be able to reset your network without needing sprint to give you the code..

Are you talking about following this guide?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...de-success-sim-unlock-sprint-samsung-t3130294
And btw, I'm running completely stock because someone told me installing a custom recovery will reset your KNOX and that's not good. And I believe this requires root right?
Yep thats the guide I follow to unlock mine... & yea man... U gonna have to root it first... I don't think phone providers look into knox unless you send the phone to Samsung for repair...
Other than that.... You can just root it with odin.... & u be good to go..

So, I can manually clean flash the MM 6.0.1 update through Odin, then install custom recovery and root, then work from the GT app method to unlock the network and I'll be good to go?
Yes sir.... Now i haven't try the GT app on MM but doesn't hurt to try.
