Hello,
I've bought a Xperia Arc S 2 months ago, and now I want to root it.
I've never rooted a phone. So I suggest that my bootloader is locked.
I don't know what I first have to do and what I have to do to root my phone.
My Build number ends with .62 and i've Android 2.3.4.
I hope that's enough information about my phone. I don't know what I have to do now.
Do I have to downgrade to .42 and then root? Which steps do I have to follow to root my phone?
All what I ask is a simple root guide for my situation at the moment, with clear steps
and with links.
Can anybody help me?
I'm new to android too but from I've read on this forum, you can only root .62 if you unlock your boot loader. However, if you wish to retain you locked bootloader, you have to downgrade to .42 first and root with zerg's rush method (That is by far the easiest)
Then you can update OTA to .62 and remain rooted, OTA only !!
I hope all the information I have provided is correct. Good luck
If u downgrade to .42 it will be much easier to root and me personaly i dont really see new new things of improvements in .62 update. If u are using .42 u can root your phone with a program called UnlockRoot its free and u just need to switch the phone to debugging mode and connect it to the pc then u press "root" and the phone will be rooted in like 30 40 secs. You can do that even with locked bootloader that was my case if u want that program google it or contact me ill sent it to you.About .62 update root there are many tutorials about it just search the forum and u will find qite alot

Thanks a lot (Lusterboi too). I've a few questions left.
How you can downgrade to .42? Do you need a program and where can I get it?
And you are saying that this is the easiest way to root your phone, but is it the best too?
I mean, I've heard from 'CyanogenMod' and 'Doom Kernel', but what is the difference between this way and CyanogenMod or Doom Kernel? Or aren't that root programs?
And in ± 2 weeks Android ICS comes for the Xperia Arc S. Is ICS compatible with rooted phones ?

For future reference check the apn settings. Not had problems so far with my arc, but often after flashing my x10 I would have to input apn settings myself.
i found many solutions nd tried but none works for me
m having 2.3.4 (4.0.2.a.0.62)
i read few written there that have to change GB firmware to 2.3.3 then root i didnt understand tht rooting should be easy in every firmware
any other method n i have locked bootloader
Try this -
DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit [v4.0](zergRush Exploit)
If you got .62/69 you will not be able to root using doomLord's zergrush method.
You have 2 options
1 using flashtools downgrade to .42 then root using zergrush then update over the air to latest version this will keep root. Only do this if bootloader Is locked as it will brick your phone.
2 unlock bootloader then install a custom kernel that is pre rooted.
if you search on the stickies all answers are there. Both in general and dev sections

Thanks i flashed cyno n unlocked my boot loder

You mentioned that you have tried many solutions but none worked for you. It would be helpful if you specify which ones it is that you tried and did not work so people don't waste your time or theirs by suggesting the same methods to you again.
Anyway, rooting with recovery has sofar always worked for me. Search the forums for "bin4ry" and "rootxperia"
I also upgraded with the official ICS but soon went back to 4.0.2.A.0.62 for one simple reason. I could not sync my calendar directly with Outlook using MyPhoneExplorer as the local calendar on the phone is just not visible. I dont want to have my calendar entries on Google Calendar so I reverted back to .62 and rooted again with "Root with recoveryLT15i". There is no need to go to .42

Hello Everybody,
I may need your help!
I've got a Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc (Lt15i) with Android 2.3.4 on it. (Stock ROM)
When I got my Arc, I rootet it with the Doomloard tool... it worked without errors..
Then I had to send my mobilephone to the repair center because of a crack in the housing ... unfortunately they reset my Arc to stocksettings, like they ever did.
Then I tried to root it again, but it was not possible to root it one more time.
I installed flashtool 0.8.0.0 to flash the stockkernel once again, but rooting still doesn't work. While the rootingprocess there were errors like .. *failed to copy..* whatever..
When I watch the files on the intern phonestorage through Astro filemanager.. I'm able to see two folders which seem not to be removed through flashing or resetting to default settings etc. *root* and *sbin*
is it posssible that this two folders are the reasons why i can't root anymore?
If it's so, how can they be removed?
But may it be possible that I can only root the LT15i_4.0.2.A.0.42 ROM and not the later versions like .62 or .69?
I'm not able to find a working LT15i_4.0.2.A.0.42 Stock ROM in the internet.. all the ones I downloaded didn't work.. flashtool said flashing failed..
Could anyone post a link to me with a working .42 Stockkernel?
Or could anyone help me to root my mobile once again..
Nice greetings from Germany,
Eric
PS: I'm not very good on this area and my English is not the best, so it would be nice if you'll try to explain it very simple..
The .62 and .69 cant be rooted.
Uf you got unlocked bootloader just boot a gb kernel with flash and install root.zip (download it from superuser site)
There are many threads with roms on general thread, sticked.
Typed down from the sky with sexy LT15i
Thank you for your Answer! But I don't know wether by bootloader is locked or not... Could you post me a link with such a kernel?
I flashed .42 on my arc but the rooting didn't work.. :-(
What could be the problem?
If you don't know whether your bootloader is unlocked or not, I'm fairly certain that it's still locked. LOL!
The .42 fw is rootable with Gingerbreak v1.20. It's an .apk file. If that doesn't work, try v1.10.
So technically, Gingerbreak is all you need to root .42. You don't require an unlocked bootloader just for that.
Once you're rooted, you can upgrade to .62 OTA to still keep root.
(If you really want to unlock your bootloader, head over to Sony's website. Clear instructions are given there. You can do it for free but this voids your warranty. And keep your IMEI at hand. You'll need to enter it on the website).
Swyped from my SE Xperia arc (LT15i) using Tapatalk 2
cant OTA... (error: plz wait a while & try again later?)
cant Update Via Sony PC companion... (dont see the phone, wants me to update software, but already latest version)
cant unlock bootloader (because cant find "Android Boot loader Interface-file" followed this to the letter: http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions )
cant root cuz cant get 2.3.3?
ive literally just wasted the last 4 hrs of my life and i want to pull my hair out. all i want to do is root and kill the bloat. can you help a brotha out?
well you can simply flash 2.3.3 wih flashtool
and as i know you can root all 2.3.2 devices with gingerbreak made by chainfire

Hi everybody... I have purchased Xperia Z1 Compact few day ago and this is my first ever experience with any SONY SMARTPHONE device in this Android era. Before this I had Galaxy SIII and I learnt how to Root, Flash, Custom OS, and Reseting Counter on my own through different sources youtube videos. But regarding my sony xperia z1 compact device, I have been searching for the last 3 consecutive days on how to ROOT and get CWM on my device but all i get in return is total crap. I know about the official Sony Way of Unblocking the bootloader but then again I dont want SONY to know that I tinkered around with their device in the form of Unblocking and/or Rooting. There is 1 website which demonstrate how to UNLOCK BOOTLOADER in 2 different ways. 1- Official. 2-Unofficial. The unofficial way is very easy through FLASHTOOL but my device is running 4.4.2 kitkat and yesterday I upgraded to even more latest 4.4.2 build number 14.3.A.0.757. I think flashtool is not yet compatible with the 4.4.2 line for UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER in UNOFFICIAL WAY. When i recieved my device it was running on Android 4.3. So please kindly tell me how I can UNLOCK the BOOTLOADER in unofficial way and also root the device. I dont want any suggestions regarding OFFICIAL WAY UNLOCKING.
Oh yes one more thing. If i want my regional dedicated Android FTF file, from where I can get one. My location is SAUDI ARABIA.
Samsung phones have the best solution for providing regional dedicated OS files through samfirm ware, but about sony I have no clue.
Kindly help..... Thanks to all in advance. Waiting eagerly. I want to restore my apps and data which run on ROOTED device.
Regards.:good:

I was just wondering why you didn't want Sony to know that you unlocked your bootloader? If it's a warranty concern then when you send it back just relock the bootloader. I did that with my XPERIA Z when I needed to get it repaired and there was no problems at all.
You mentioned you want to restore your apps that need to run on rooted devices... You only need to unlock the bootloader IF you want to use a custom kernel. For example if you want to use DoomLords kernel then you need to have your bootloader unlocked or if you want to flash CyanogenMod ROM to your phone you need to unlock your bootloader (because it flashes a custom kernel to your phone as well)
If you ONLY want to use apps that need root then I suggest you follow this guide which has worked for me:

About region FTF's, the ONLY difference as far as I know are the apps that come bundled with it. I've flashed many FTF's from many countries and the only difference between them is the bundled apps.

Oh really? and how will I relock the bootloader then as I dont know the whole process..... and you mean I just need the ROOT access for my apps and not the UNLOCKING OF THE BOOTLOADER in order for the ROOT ACCESS to work... But many websites and tutorials were saying that you must first have to UNLOCK the BOOTLOADER.... and also how can I be so sure that different region TFT will work on my phone. I once saw RUSSIAN 4.1.2 on GALAXY S3 in my friend's phone and it was working fine except we didn't know RUSSIAN LANGUAGE.
So can you please guide me all the way on ROOTING and then also RELOCKING the BOOTLOADER.
Many thanks.

What are these files? Do I have to download all of them? I mean these are 2 different TFT files? What's the scope of having two?
There is no mentioning what should I have to do? What key combination do I have to make and which mode do I have to enter for FLASHING like FASTBOOT mode or FLASHING MODE?
No nothing blatantly explained. Not Noob Friendly. If you can guide me through these mysterious Steps. It'll be helpful...
And also do tell what version will this TFT be? 4.3 or 4.2.2 or what? is it compatible with Xperia Z1 Compact????

Yeah you JUST need root access, there is no need to unlock the bootloader for root access. You definitely do not need to unlock the bootloader. I don't want to unlock the bootloader because on my old XPERIA device when I unlocked the bootloader I lost BRAVIA engine.
Yeah, the default language might be different but when you start your XPERIA for the first time it will ask you what language you want. From this menu you can pick English, Arabic etc...
If you don't want to flash custom ROMs then you don't need to unlock the bootloader. If you just need root access then just follow this article (It'll teach you EVERYTHING you need to know):
