My guess is that it doesnt wipe cache /restore dalvik so a hard reset is necessary. To hard reset press and hold the right volume button then press the power button. When the acer logo appears flip the screen lock switch back and forth a few times and the green android should show and wipe out /data /cache and dalvik.
Thank to peporras and crossix for finding how to get hc again

****Follow these directions...its what I did when I first got tired of ICS....I've done it about 3-times...it works great.....
****First...download that rom...unzip...in the folder you'll see "update.zip" ...put that on the root of your EXTERNAL sd card...
***Next...turn off tab....turn it back on holding the up volume button and power...let go of the power button BUT KEEP your finger holding down the up volume button....LET TAB DO ITS THING..
***After that...it'll reboot...hold the power button down until the tab turns off (yes...during the reboot phase)...
***Flip the screen lock switch down...(so you see the red)....turn on tab holding the power button and the down volume button...LET GO OF THE POWER BUTTON BUT NOT THE VOLUME DOWN....flip the screen lock flip a few times...you'll see some writing on the tab (i believe like its wiping the cache etc)...
***The tab will restart...I wouldn't set anything up...because your next step is to UPGRADE your rom with this package
Acer_A100_2.007.04_COM_GEN1 : http://fileshost.fr.mu/download/84/S...l_user.7z.html
***Same procedure as before...put the zip on the root of your external sd....rename it update.zip...
***Flash like you did before...set your rom up....and your done...
***Follow this method to root your HB tab..

its the easiest root solution one in my opinion...hope this helps.

BTW: just so you know, this is the wrong section. You should have posted this in General. Not flaming intended

Link Down..
It looks that vache-android is down D=..
Does anyone has another link to that update.zip file?
--Sorry for my english

I had the same problem when trying to do the hard reset, then found better instructions. When you do the hard reset follow these steps exactly:
1. Place the rotation lock switch in the up position
2. Press and hold the Volume down button, which is located farthest from the rotation lock
3. With the Volume down button held, press and hold the Power button for 3 seconds then release it. Continue holding the Volume down button.
4. Once the tablet vibrates, switch the rotation lock on and off repeatedly while still holding the Volume down button.
5. Release the Volume down button and stop switching the rotation lock once the "Erasing Userdata..." message appears in the upper left corner of the screen
6. Once the factory reset has been completed your tablet will load to the Welcome screen.
7. Your Factory Data Reset has completed now follow the onscreen steps to setup your tablet.

Stock Rom (Update.zip) needed for step one can be found HERE
I have been unable to get my hands on the 3.2.1 update. Still looking. If anyone has it let me know so I can upload/share.
Edit: Both files required for this procedure are now available at the link I provided

Hi Cheeb!
The 2nd file that you provided a link for seems to be an entire image (based on size). Are you sure it is necessary to flash the original firmware first or do you think we can simply flash the 3.2.1 and then perform the Hard Reset?
Thanks!

I've never tried it that way (only because I did EXACTLY as the other post specified)...I think there was some sort of issue with the flashing of the 3.2.1 straight from ICS....either a boot loop or something similar....

I started a thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592993 which some moderator in an apparent moment of tyranny closed.
However, before it was closed, someone had given an helpful answer. So if you run into trouble trying to revert back to honeycomb, flash the ICS 009 leak first and you can follow the other steps as detailed in this thread.
That is the only step that worked for me.

Yes....that is the only step IF YOU UNLOCKED YOUR BOOTLOADER WITH ICS AND NEED TO RETURN BACK TO HONEYCOMB....
BTW...why are you returning to honeycomb?? I have not done the whole bootloader bit because of the large amount of incompatibility with ICS..

I have the ics leak. Would this let me go back to HC and then would I be able to get the OTA? Anyone try? Thanks

What leak? 012?....if so...it will let you go back to HC..as far as the OTA ..well...I don't know...
If you want the "OTA" rom..then the 014 posted in the devs section IS the OTA your looking for...it has been confirmed from people who received the OTA (014) and people who flashed the posted rom (014) that they are the SAME.
As far as going back to HC...my MAIN concern was always having the opportunity to go back to it because of the touch screen issues.....the new STOCK rom that has been posted fixed those issues for the most part...there are still some compatibility issues but that is to be expected when moving to a new operating system....
Just flash the rom...screw the OTA..
OR if you have the 012 leak (or any other leak prior to the 014...and I say that only because I haven't tried to go back to HC from 014) then try this procedure that I've done damn near 20 different times which worked perfectly...

Yes, that is what I did, and I followed the steps in Post #2. The only difference is that I didn't use the 2007.04 zip file since I had already downloaded the 2007.01 download. All that did was ensure that I had one more update OTA to get to 2007.04 but it worked all the same.

Yes, complete factory reset back to stock.
do you mean to hold the 3 buttons (power and bottom left and bottom right) at the same time???
how to do it, or need 2 persons to do it?

With the device off (it will say it is off)
Push and hold the power button, them immediately push and hold both bottom (left and right) page turn buttons.
When it powers on release the power button and release the page turn buttons when the recovery screen comes up (see attached picture).
If you need someone to help, you have an opportunity to make a new friend
It is not difficult, but as usual with these things it may take a few tries to get the timing right.

Its actually not complete factory reset. I had some stuff in System and Keyboard mods and they stuck when I factory reset. I'm going to be releasing a SD card image that COMPLETELY factory resets the device.
I don't think it un-roots it, unless an unrooted nook has a wireless adb connection. I did this hit yes twice and completed the factory reset and i can still connect to the nook touch via wireless adb I just installed adw again without going through any of the rooting process again.
On the nook color what is referred to as the "factory reset" just resets the data partition
also since i had gapps installed it booted to the android welcome screen on my 2nd boot.
edit: I just "factory reset" again and it boots fine at first but then a reboot brings it to the android welcome screen with the moving hand to the android button and it gets stuck there.
So we need someone to figure out how to do a system reset.
edit: on my defense ^ post wasnt here when i started typing mine.

Actual Factory Reset
Success...kinda, so i got a full factory reset, however i am not sure how. I for the life of me could not get 8 failed boots to work, the thing always wanted to boot regardless of what i was pressing, so i was messing around in adb installing some things, deleting some things and then when i typed reboot it just rebooted to the factory image screen.
I uploaded the actual factory reset screen. If anybody else has success getting it to go to restoring original factory image maybe you can give a more reliable way.
edit: i have been messing with it for a few hours so maybe it got sick of me and was like, eff it i am factory imaging.
I can confirm this works since after i did it the data was still untouched (launchers were still installed but root was lost/ wireless adb no longer connected) after i had the factory reset then i did a data reset that is posted in op and I was back to pure stock files.
I'll confirm that the factory reset listed by the OP doesn't work completely. I would reset the Touch, then power off and on, and then the android screen would show up at that point. This happens consistently.
I'm not sure the Nook Touch is my cup of tea, so I'm thinking it might be headed back to B&N. I'm definitely interested in any clear working instructions for a true reset to factory default that can be conjured by wiser minds than mine.
Sorry, duplicate post.

I figured out how to get a full factory "re-image" of my nook touch.
I followed the instructions for the nook color here:
Method two: Set the Boot counter to 8 by typing
http://nookdevs.com/Flash_back_to_clean_stock_ROM
I rooted my nook touch using touchnooter. Loaded up the amazon app store and played around for a while. But I found after I rooted the nook that the nook store didn't work any more. So i wanted to get back to factory state. I then installed the wireless adb app. I logged in to my nook using my linux pc and followed the above directions. After the re-image you have to do a data reset by going in and restoring to factory settings in the nook itself.
As soon as I gave the reboot command it started the re-image as seen in this link:

[Q] hc 3.2 rom?

I'm currently trying to downgrade my Acer a100 to hc 3.2 from the glitched up version of ics 4.0. I found several threads with a link to the download but the link appears to be dead. When I try to download it appears to try to fetch it but ends as download unsuccessfully. Does anyone have an answer for this? Thanks.

Have you tried just doing a factory reset on the ICS your on to see if it clears anything up?
If you need it, Here<< is the post I used to downgrade to 3.2.1, keep in mind that you will most likely need to factory reset after the tablet reboots. It might hang on the android logo. Just power down then follow the hard reset from the recovery to get it to go.
Yes. I tried the factory reset but it still hangs up when using apps, browser, email, etc. Constant hang ups. Btw, I got the from downloaded but now it will not extract. Any ideas? I've tried win zip, unrar, and archidroid to no avail.

You don't extract it. You need to rename it "update.zip" (make sure not to rename it "update.zip.zip"). Place it on the root of a freshly formatted microSD card. Then put it in the powered down tablet. Press and hold simultaneously the power button, and the volume down rocker (the one closest to the corner), until the tab vibrates. Then release, and you will see the it finding and installing the update file. After it restarts, if it hangs on the android logo (give it 5-10 minutes), perform the factory reset.
Gotcha, so there is noway to load it using the native memory or internal memory on the device? Or would that be a no-no anyways in the case it crashes during loading lol?

You never want to flash from internal memory, if something goes wrong you'll lose the file in the middle flashing right after your stuff is formatted. It may or may not format /data but if it does all of it, there goes internal SD.
Update.zip method is run from external SD I don't think it even checks internal SD when looking.

Ok. I see. But I'm still a little confused. I've finally got the file downloaded and placed on the sd card. Which I might add was ridiculous as apparently it can't be placed on there manually without placing the file on a pc and loading it that way. Nonetheless, how exactly do I flash it now. I have it named update.zip.
Sorry for the confused remarks and questions. I'm use to Windows and have little experience with Linux based platforms. It seems as if Acer intentionally locked a lot of features on the a100 such as host usb ports, movable file systems, etc. Unless I'm dreaming here lol. Either way I like the tablet for the price.
Thanks.

Omg, thank you so much for posting the links to get the HC 3.2 stock ROM! You are a lifesaver. I had issues after an update where the wifi on this tablet wouldn't connect to any router. I had almost given up until I found your post. Now I have ICS 4.0.3 on this thing!!!
I also have the same problem no one can answer.
OK. Finally got it... I think. Here's what I had to do. Because the rom download kept faulting out randomly on download, I ended up using my laptop to download a program called download accelerator plus (dap) from old version.com. I then used its download manager to complete the download. I know... crazy, but it did the trick. The rest was per the directions given by other users on xda.

Hey, really sorry to post in a dead thread, but I can't find a working download link for 3.2 anywhere; it appears that the site is down. You guys seem to have downloaded it successfully though, so I was wondering if maybe one of you could put it on rapidshare or something? I very much need it, and I would appreciate a working download link. Thanks.

This one is 3.2.1. Remember if you are gong from 4.0 to 3.2, after the update goes through and it reboots, it might hang on the android logo. You need to factory reset to get it back.

It will work on any ROM, its built into the boot process, so yeah, use it on anything installed it'll reset.
Edit: I was assuming you meant the reset thing, not the process of downgrading.

Help installing ICS leak (I'm a noob)

Can someone guide me step by step on how to get ics on my captivate glide? I have absolutely no clue how/what rooting is and what roms are. I have looked on this forum for guides but I can't really understand them. So could someone please help me with step by step instructions on how to do this? Also, if I do this, will I be able to get the official ics when at&t releases it? Thanks
Keep in mind this will wipe all of your data, as well as the internal memory, so if you need to back up pictures or anything, now's the time to do it. This will leave you with a stock recovery, stock kernel, and unrooted AT&T stock rom with the typical AT&T bloatware. It should be fine to update to the official update once it comes out, but no one knows for sure. You'll want to have at least 50% battery, just to be on the safe side.
First, make sure you have Kies installed, so that you have the correct USB drivers. Download the 4.0.4 .exe file from here. Power off your phone, hold Volume Up and Power to turn it back on. Keep holding them until you get a screen warning you about custom software, and release, then press volume up again to enter download mode. Hook the phone up to your pc, and launch the .exe you downloaded. Click the start button, and wait patiently.
You can stop there, or you can root your device and fix the keyboard backlight bug in the leak as well as remove some bloatware if you want. For this, you'll need Odin 1.85, Clockworkmod Recovery, SuperUser 3.2 RC3, and the Keyboard Backlight fix.
Copy the backlight fix and super user zips to your internal memory, and reboot the phone into download mode using the same method as above. Connect the USB, and run Odin 1.85. Uncheck "F. Reset Time" and make sure that the only box checked is Auto Reboot, you shouldn't need to change anything. Click on the PDA button, and load the clockworkmod .md5 file you downloaded, then press the start button and wait for the device to reboot.
This time you'll reboot into recovery. Power the phone off, hold the volume down and power button to turn the phone one. Keep holding them until you see text about entering recovery in the top left, and release. Use the volume keys to navigate and power to select, and go to Install zip from sdcard. Select Choose zip from sdcard, and select the superuser zip you downloaded earlier. Select Yes, and wait for superuser to flash. Once that's finished, repeat the process, this time selecting the keyboard backlight fix zip. Next, we'll make a quick backup so you can restore to this point in case you mess anything up when removing bloatware. Select Backup and restore, and backup. This will take a bit, just be patient. When you're finished, select reboot system now, and you should be set.
From here, you can install something like Titanium Backup, which will use root access to let you remove the various AT&T bloatware.
Remember to hit the Thanks button if one was helpful to you (on the left side)

I love you.
Perfect guide, thanks
bakageta's guide was great!
Being a regular part of the forum means that you get used to the jargon. But for someone starting off with Android ROMs, this is perfect.
Being new to the ics, I currently have my glide still stock, the only mods I have done are rooting, WiFi tethering fix, and gps fix. It still has the e3 recovery. Do I need to unroot, or anything it install ics? Also with the leaked ics, can I still use the WiFi tethering and such? Would it be worth installing considering battery life, cpu usage? How slow is it compared to the stock 2.3.5?
Thanks
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I927 using xda app-developers app
Wifi tethering needs a fix, but there are instructions for how to do it in the development forum. You don't need to unroot or do anything special to install ICS, but you should make backups of important stuff just in case. My battery life is the same or slightly better than AT&T 2.3.5 stock, and the device doesn't feel any slower.

Thanks, it all sounds good. I'll look for the fix, I just dont want to loose what I already have! but on the other hand I'm ready for a change, ether a new phone or loading a new rom! I know the official update has just been released from att, I'm not sure if I should just wait for it to be offered here rooted or try the leaked version!
You can use any free or paid tethering as well.. I haven't run the fix because my foxfi still running fine.
Current System:
CWMR Touch 6.0.0.1 (Stable)
i927ruclg9 ICS 4.0.4 stock

Thank you so much for this, it worked exellent, I didnt need the leak version, att had sent me a text that this upgrade was avaliable....I just wish I knew my backlit keys would not work. I am overly excited that my lights work now, and to be rooted also is awesome!!!

Thank YOU!!!!
Thank you so much for the help on this, extremely straightforward and thorough, A+++
Thanks bakageta for a great walk-through. I just picked up this phone for my better half who's used to having a keyboard (BlackBerry Pearl user) so I wanted to get her onto ICS and get the keyboard lighting issue fixed. I had an account on here previously but I hadn't logged in for over a year.
Cheers!

Thanks SO much - what a thorough, step-by-step and easy to follow explanation. So very kind of you! :good:
PS: Kies just would NOT connect for me, but if Odin recognises the phone, it should work.

[Q] Oh God :/ Please help. My phone turned to... NOTHINGNESS.

Yeah hey,
So I was running Trinity kernel and noticed a lot of random system freezes and so I reverted back to stock kernel through this thread I just made. I flashed the 4.1.1 stock kernel zip over the trinity kernel.
My phone got stuck in Boot Screen (Didn't see a boot loop, just stuck there while the Animation plays for infinite time) I took the battery out, then rebooted... same thing.. So I was gonna wipe and reinstall the whole thing through recovery (CWM), I pulled the battery, held Power + Vol down.. I was expecting recovery, but then I saw a Fastboot screen ("Odin Mode" as labelled in the top left corner) with only one single option ("START") and a label that says "Downloading..."Then system info ("Tuna" and the other stuff)
Now MY MAIN QUESTION:
Did I lose my CWM recovery system restore zip?? The one in the virtual "SD" Card?! PLEASE SAY I DIDN'T!!!
Now second question, how do I get things back to normal?? :crying:
Vol up + vol down + power :highfive:
Then use the volume key to select Recovery

Oh, Thanks.
Just tried that and DID get recovery as an option, clicked it, and just *poof*... Nothing happened..
I think the battery was 11% when it all started so I'll give it 30 minute and try again. And update this accordingly.
If you were referring to your clockworkmod folder in the first post, would be wise to pull it via adb in case you have to completely wipe your phone.

Could you please guide me to somewhere where this method is explained? I really want to pull that file any way possible.
I'm not the best in using adb..
But I'm now about to install Win7 or Linux to be able to use adb.
This is probably the easiest to follow initially: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058431
If in doubt there are dozens of other adb guides/tutorials on XDA and elsewhere. Just take your time.

Thank you for the help. Recovery just worked and my restore file is still there.. So I'll try reflashing and if it failed I'll wipe and reflash.
I can manage on my own when recovery in intact.
Thank you -and people like you- for making this forum such an amazing place.

[Q] How to - Factory Reset (AT&T)

Hello All,
Well I pulled the trigger and purchased a GS3. While at the store the rep did the OTA Update and I now have the LH9 update installed on my phone.
I would like to root the phone and I noticed the line in red bellow...
AT&T Users The last full ROM that was released was LG1. The latest OTA update is LH9.
After following the steps outlined below you should then head over to this thread if you want to apply the OTA updates and retain root.
Note: if your phone shipped with LH9 you will want to perform a factory reset in stock recovery before performing the below otherwise you'll get errors when you boot into your system.
If you've had your phone and have a notification to apply an OTA update you can use something like voodoo OTA rootkeeper to retain root through the process.
I have no idea how to perform the requested action. If someone could, would you point me in the right direction for a TuT on how to reset the SG3?
Thanks,
-NJ
Just a bump - hoping someone will answer me
you dont need to factory reset to root go here and download and follow the directions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746665
It just means that wherever in the guide this step is you power off your phone, hold vol up+home+power until you see the splash screen with the blue words in the upper left corner then release....careful the screen passes quick. Once in recovery look for the factory reset option and choose it. In recovery I think its volume up and down to navigate and home to select. When done reboot phone and continue on with the guide.
