Great to hear! Did you have to use the alternate flash method or did the standard flash work for you?

I used your standard flashing instructions. No wiping or anything and it worked beautiful. Thanks again. I've missed this mod since running darkside.

I just double checked all the links and they work on the desktop but I do get a error message if trying to access the website from my phone. But thanks to tdj's new changes, you can change the user agent in the stock browser now. So just set the user agent to chrome and try it then. Or just download it from a computer. Let me know if you still have issues!
Roger that. I clicked from xda on phone and my default browser is dolphin. Thanks for these.

Chrome is not an option in dolphin browser, I tried desktop and that didn't work either.
No, I meant I originally tried with Dolphin and failed. With Darkside 2.5 you can change user agent in stock browser to chrome but it still don't work. I downloaded via PC through the wicked slow host (5-6 KBps) and had to mount data and system in recovery to make it work. Looks good thanks!

Should I try a different host? TDJ used this for one of his darkside releases so I just picked it up from that. I get fine download speeds but if it's a major issue I'll relocate the files. I'll also make the mounting standard because it won't hurt and seems to be more universal
I used skyfire and zero issues downloading.

Yes! All mods work for 2.5. As some users have pointed out, you'll have to set your mobile browser to desktop or download them from a desktop.
Working great... using the Green HoneyComb and must say its pretty impressive... thanks!
Is there any way to keep the existing theme and have this just change the battery icon? After I did the mod, all my other icons went from the candy theme to gray.

Unfortunately it doesn't work that way since both mods replace the systemui.apk and framework-res.apk with their own versions. I'll look into releasing certain mods with the more popular themes but I can't promise anything since I'm new to manually making modifications to the files.
I have actually figured out how to incorporate the battery mods into any theme or mod! It's not quite as easy as flashing something in CWM, but all it requires is just having 7zip and adb and/or ES file explorer/Root explorer. Would people be interested enough for me to post the files and the process?
Yes. That would be great.

To use this battery mod in conjunction with other mods/themes for DW:
You will need:
1) 7zip
2) ADB***
3) A ROM/mod that already uses 1% battery increments (should not be a problem for any DW mods or themes)
***I'm currently looking into how to do this without ADB and just using built in file explorers. I'm not sure if it's possible so I've just gone ahead and posted this first but I've tried it a few ways and the transfer won't complete without freezing the phone. If anyone knows how to replace the framework-res.apk without using ADB, let me know!
Installation with ADB:
STEP 0: ALWAYS NANDROID FIRST
1) Boot your phone to recovery; go to Mounts and Storage; mount /system
2) Plug your phone into your computer; open up command prompt on your PC; type this line of code (this will pull the system file you need to modify to your desktop):
adb pull /system/framework/framework-res.apk c:\users\(YOURNAME)\desktop
3) Download the kit version of the battery mod you want to use
4) Extract (NOT OPEN) the images from the kit (right click on the .zip --> extract)
5) Right click on the framework-res.apk file you pulled and under "7-zip" click "Open archive" (NOT EXTRACT). You'll have a window of the contents of framework-res.apk
6) Follow this file path: res > drawable-hdpi
7) Now take all of the images that you extracted from your kit and drag and drop them into your 7-zip window. (At the confirmation window, hit "Yes")
8) Close out of the 7-zip window
9) Go back to the command prompt and type this:
cd c:\users\(YOURNAME)\desktop
10) Then type this:
adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework
11) Reboot! No need to clear cache/dalvik/fix permissions
*Replace (YOURNAME) with your windows username
*Pay attention to correct use of forward slash and backward slash (forward for linux/unix commands, backwards for windows commands)

This is a basic theme that changes the H icon for HSPA in the status bar to a 4G icon for CM7.0.2 Final and Nightly 41-42.
I've included a Flashable Zip for CWR and an Icon pack if you would rather do it yourself.
Let me know how it goes and if you like the theme.
As for special requests for 4G icons, please attach a copy of SystemUI.apk if you're on 2.3, a copy of Framework-res.apk if you're on 2.2 or a copy of the theme APK if it's a ThemeManager theme. I just cant download or find every rom or theme that is requested.

I get a 4G icon until it syncs with google then I get a Green "H" is it possible that it is the androidian theme I am running that is missing the Icon??

You could just use the images and copy and replace them in the apk and adb push. Back up first because playing with framework files can soft brick devices easily (boot loop)

Pull the framework-res.apk from your rom and pm the file and I'll post it up after editing and zipaligning it. Or you can just use ninjamorph and use the icon pack.

I atleast got adb, I tested by pushing a text file to my phone, I dont want to mess my phone up trying to apply this so what would I do to apply the 4g theme?
Thank you!
open up your zip rom folder on the computer, then go /system/framework/framework-res.apk and drag that apk file out, open that apk, best and easy with 7-zip program and put them in there, just close it up after, saves itself.. and adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework
same with Anroidian.apk and Cyanbread.apk

1. Use root explorer or adb to pull SystemUI.apk from the system/app folder
2. On your computer rename SystemUI.apk to SystemUI.apk.zip
3. Open SystemUI.apk.zip (dont extract just open archive) using 7zip and go to res\drawable-hdpi folder
4. From the 4Gicons.zip posted in the OP copy the 8 png's and paste them into the System.apk.zip in res\drawable-hdpi.
5. Rename SystemUI.apk.zip back to SystemUI.apk
6. Zipalign APK(Step not absolutely necessary but optimizes the apk) put SystemUI.apk into tools folder of AndroidSDK. Open compand prompt and run this line "zipalign -v 4 SystemUI.apk SystemUIzipaligned.apk". A new APK called SystemUIzipaligned.apk will be created in the tools folder. Rename it back to SystemUI.apk
7. Use root explorer or Adb to push SystemUI.apk back to system/app folder
8. Using root explorer long press on SystemUI.apk and select permissions, place checks to User: read and write; Group read; Others: read, leave all other unchecked. ( i dont know how to change permissions using adb, this step might not be necessary if you dont have root explorer)
8. SystemUI.apk might force close constantly after copying it back. So, turn of screen of the phone, then back on but dont unlock, then hold power button and choose power off or reboot.
9.And your done
Here's a flashable zip I made you for GingerVillian 1.5 if you dont want to go through all those steps: 4Gicons-theme-GV15.zip

Hi all,
This guide is split into two parts as of now , part 1 is for changing the settings menu background and part 2 is for changing the backgground for dialer and contacts.
Part -1
may be this method is known to few but im posting this to people who dont know how to change the background image of the settings menu and other few.

}
Like it?
here is the method to do proceed with.
Software needed :
1.7zip (to replace the image)
2.android sdk(to use adb commands to push/pull the files)
How it works:
We are modifying/replacing an image called "background_holo_dark.png" in the "framework-res.apk" which is responsible for displaying background images in menu.
Step 1:
Use the following adb command below to pull the "framework-res.apk" from your mobile to pc.
Code:
adb pull system/framework/framework-res.apk
Step 2:
Open the framework-res.apk via 7zip and navigate to the following directory
"framework-res.apk\res\drawable-nodpi\", you will see a file called "background_holo_dark.png". Delete the image and dont close the 7zip.
Preparing your own image:
Now use any png image you want to set as background , resize it to 512 x 512 via mspaint or any other image editing software and rename the file to "background_holo_dark.png".
Drag the newly created image file back to 7zip(to the same directory where the old file is deleted) and close the 7 zip .
Step 3:
Now its time to push the file back to mobile, type the following command in the same command prompt
Code:
adb remount
now type the following
Code:
adb push framework-res.apk system/framework
Step 4:
Now reboot your mobile, you will have the new background image enabled
Part-2
Wanna change the background of the dialer and contacts?? well read below,
Step 1:
Use the adb command (or u can use root explorer) to pull the "Contacts.apk" from your mobile to pc.
Step 2:
Open the Contacts.apk via 7zip and navigate to the following directory
"Contacts.apk\res\drawable-nodpi\", you will see a file called "background_dial_holo_dark.png". Delete the image and dont close the 7zip.
Drag the image (similar to the one created in part 1 of the guide) file back to 7zip(to the same directory where the old file is deleted) and close the 7 zip .
Step 3:
Now its time to push/copy back the file back to mobile. Copy back the file to the same directory from where it is copied.
Step 4:
Now reboot your mobile, you will have the new background image enabled
Your dialer and contacts shortcut may be missing from your launcher, just drag it back to the homescreen from the app drawer.
Step:5
This step is optional!!! If you do not get those shortcuts, enter cwm and wipe cache and dalvik cache.
Note:
For users who know how to use root explorer (or other file managers) can use the same to copy/paste the framework-res.apk before and after editing.
Sample images are taken with multi dpi, this mod will work with all dpi.
Instructions:
1. Download the zip from the download section below and open it in 7zip.
2. Navigate to the following directory "\mode\system\framework\framework-res.apk\res\drawable-nodpi\".(Sample images on post 2)
3. Change the images "background_holo_dark.png" and "background_holo_dark.png" as per your wish.
4. Flash it

a simple google search will give you those.
here
you can also simply copy past via root explorer if you are not comfortable with adb commands. just dont forget to set the permission as
XX0
X00
X00
I see alot of ppl asking how to do this so I will give an example. It is quite easy, after you do it once, and the process will work for any images you wish to include in your theme. So lets get to it!
I only have windows computer, so that is what I will describe. You will need to install 7-zip http://www.7-zip.org/.
ok step 1 is downloading the theme you wish to edit, and the softkeys you wish to insert.
Step 2 ( extracting the theme)
Find the theme on your computer and right click and select 7-zip / Extract Files....
Do the same for your soft keys if they are zipped and locate the softkey images.
Step 3 (extracting com.android.systemui)
In the theme you are editing find the file labeled com.android.systemui and repeat the extraction by right clicking and selecting 7-zip / extract files...
step 4 ( inserting new images)
select all of the soft key images that you want to use and right click / copy they will be labeled eg. ic_sysbar_back.png and so on. there will be images for portrait and landscape, copy them all
Open the com.android folder that resulted from extracting com.android.systemui and there will be two files (res and theme_values.xml). Open res and find the drawable-hdpi and drawable_xhdpi folders and paste your softkey images in both. If the theme already contains softkey images it will ask if you want to overwrite, select yes to all.
Ok we are almost done. Now to repack the theme so it applies properly.
Step 5 (repack the theme) Warning: Do not zip the main folder you are trying to modify, this will result in the theme not applying your changes. Only zip the files/folders that are on the root of the main folder, this applies to all archived files Or in pain english, all the archived files in the theme, and the theme itself are archives of the contents of the extracted file, not the extracted file itself. Once you understand this, this is very easy.
Repack the com.android.systemui folder by selecting both the res and theme_values.xml and right clicking selecting 7-zip / add to archive. name the resulting file com.android.systemui.zip
Copy this zip back to the main theme folder where all the other com.android.xxxxx files are.
Delete the old com.android.systemui and extracted com.android folder
Now you can rename your new zip com.android.systemui you will get a warning about instability, go ahead and rename it anyways.
Your extracted theme should now look the way it did when you first extracted it.
You have to select all files in the theme and right click select 7-zip / add to archive.
You can go ahead and rename your theme at this point to whatever you want. You can even give it the .mtz extension. Click OK to zip.
Step 6 ( load your edited theme)
Now you can Cut/Paste your theme on to your phone. I typically put it in the download folder and test it from there before adding to MIUI/theme.
Remember that you may need to reboot for all the theme to apply!
Enjoy your new softkeys!

I tried putting in the zenith keys, but it didn't take. After reboot, the soft keys flickered a bit and disappeared, but then the original keys reappeared.
Any suggestions?

Give me a few to look at them. Then I will offer suggestions.
OK. It looks like those are xhdpi images. If your theme doesn't have a drawable_xhdpi folder you can create one and put them in there also. Let me know if that works.

I'll try it out tomorrow at work on my PC. I only have a Mac at home. Thanks

Well I tried it on my Mac but still couldn't get it to work after adding the images to an xhdpi folder as suggested

I went ahead and put them in both folders drawable_hdpi and drawable_xhdpi and it work for me
If you didn't try that, maybe your are zipping the file or theme incorrectly. that will prevent it from applying, even though it says it did.
when zipping the com.android.systemui file you need to select the res and theme_values.xml and right click, 7zip add to archive. or since you are on a mac, maybe there is a comparable program to 7zip.
then when zipping the theme, you select all files on the root of the extracted theme folder and right click / add to archive
OK. I'll try that on the pc

Edit: I tried it again and this time I kept the files in both folders and it worked. Thanks again!!

I don't know of a way to change nav bar height using themes, I will see if |0xD34D| can maybe include a setting in the miui.us toolbox in the future.
I can't post the modified theme, because it is not my work, and I haven't asked permission to do so. I used BlackAndroidTheme as the base and just replaced the softkeys, and also some of the status bar images came from another theme I found. I will however send it to you via PM, for your use.
Hi everybody
Since I learned how to use ZipThemer in order to change and apply mods with my Nexus 4, I've made a little How To, it might help some of you. ZipThemer is a very simple app that allows you to create theme files (.zip), ready to be flashed with your favorite custom recovery. It supports ZipThemer and Metamorph files and it is very easy to use so let's start!
As always, you make those changes at your own risks. I can't be responsible for any brick or death of your phone. Be sure to make a Nandroid Backup before any changes.!

Be sure to have :
- A Rooted Nexus 4 (or any smartphone)
- 5 minutes
- The .zip files of the update from 4.2.1 to 4.2.2 that you can download here :
OR
- The .zip files of the update from 4.2.2 to 4.3 that you can download here :
OR
- The .zip files of the update from 4.4.1 to 4.4.2 that you can download here :
(be sure to know what version you're using, it's in red :laugh
- The theme you have choosen in a .zip file
0- If you're using a KitKat Rom and want to instal SoftKeys, go to that step that @bigwavedave25 showed us, else, continue to step 1
1- Begin by downloading Android App ZipThemer right there or directly from your phone.
[font=Arial, Verdana, sans-serif]
[/font]
2- Right after the installation, launch ZipThemer for the first time
3- A little window appears, asking you to Update Edify (the window is missing in the screenshot above because that's not the first time I launch Zipthemer.). For this, simply press the menu button and Update Edify
4- Press Browse in order to find and select the convenient file chosen in this thread above, that you have downloaded and copied in your phone. Then press Configure, wait a moment (few seconds) and then go back to the principal window by pressing your "Back" button.
5- Pick a theme you like in any website/forum and copy it to your cellphone, and then select it by pressing +Theme and choosing it in the file explorer (I use here a new lockring found in XDA). It appears now over the menu and, you can choose its destination with +Output and then press Build it!
6- ZipThemer is taking care of the file, usually not very long, and will notify you when it is done !
7- Flash your theme with your favorite Recovery (there are many How To to learn how to do it ) but don't forget to systematically Wipe Cache/Wipe Dalvik Cache (recommended !) and reboot your phone. You just have to enjoy the result!
If you have found that useful, don't forget the
button
Remove gradient..
So if I wanted to flash something that removes the gradient in settings/menus/etc, so it's all black, how would I do that?

Just change the background_holo_dark.png in framework-res.apk/res/drawable-nodpi to black.
I tried this method on my Gnex (you posted over on this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1413582), but I still have the boring white stock softkeys. I downloaded the zip file from here https://www.dropbox.com/sh/eglqkhlw33clfhz/FQ7oMslrI8/Softkeys/Airbrush Blue and did the edify part, then configure. Then I did unzip part on a MMZT file. After that I went into recovery and flashed the new "update" zip file. Did I miss a step? I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Nothing stopped working which is good, but not nothing changed either.
Which zip file did you use to 'Update Edify' ?
The zip file that was provided in the first post from the dropbox link. This one: de8b8d101614.signed-occam-JDQ39-from-JOP40D.de8b8d10.zip.

I've just try with my nexus 4 and it work perfectly...
I'll reupload as soon as I go back from holidays.
This exactly what I needed. Big thanks mate! Very good job!
EDIT. I tried, but when I select the theme it says:
Can't find a theme control file in /storage/emulated/0 in Nameofmytheme.zip
Any ideas?
Yes, I think your .zip is already a theme file. Try to flash it directly
is there a place to get themes in .zip form? I cant find any.

Need ZipThemer. Also, most of the mods available in this section need this app
I am not really sure why in the instructions it says to use that zip file from his box.net account. You should be able to simply use the exisiting rom file that you are on to update edify, then follow the remainder of the steps to build a flashable zip. I personally used my nightly for linaro tackleberry rom to update edify and then built my zip worked great and no need to download an additional file for zipthemer.

Yes it is quite easy to update edify with a custom rom because they are all .zip files. When you're are stock, the rom files are .tar.gz (some kind of Linux) files. So I decided to test it with an update file (from 4.2.1 to 4.2.2) for the Nexus 4, which is the .zip file in the Box account (this Box account t is mine and I use it for all my Android files)
That's why the title of the thread shows it as a tutorial for stock rom
Sadly enough I get the following on CWM 6.0.3.1

WETA is a rom for Music geeks like me, though because we are still waiting on TWRP to become available i'd thought i'd make these MODs to flash in the meantime.
How to install...
This method is redundant from V2.0 forward
1. Make sure you are on Stock firmware and have rooted device
2. Download mod zip
3. Install this app "Root Browser"
4. Extract the zip (click and hold, select extract) using Root Browser directly into Download folder. (you should have /sdcard/Download/(zip name) as folder with files in it)
5. Go into Download/(zip name) folder and select script for desired Emoji.
6. Tick "Execute script as root"
7. Then select the Execute button
8. It will say "Executing script"
9. Once complete you should have a popup box with no errrors.
10. Device will reboot automatically
V1

Looking at the script and files, it looks to be the same font name, so no. It would take some trickery to have multiple emoji sets available on the same system.

I tried running your script and it did not work. Well, it appeared to have worked, rebooted, but all the emoji's are the same (not iOS 10).
I'm contemplating on manually doing it, as I've replaced system files in the past.
Edit: Just moved the file manually and changed the permissions to RW-R-R and it worked like a charm. I don't think your script is moving the file correctly ?
Anyways, thanks for the font packs!

I did both of these things, but okay.
I re-read your instructions and it appears that you're assuming there will be a folder with the name of the zip file under Downloads with the scripts in it. I extracted the zip contents into downloads and it put the scripts in downloads, and the sys folder in there as well. Perhaps this is where the confusion is? I see your script has the following path: /sdcard/Download/WETA_Pixel_emoji/sys/ios10/fonts/, where the bolded folder is the difference. When I extract your zip to the Downloads folder, it doesn't create this folder automatically (perhaps your version of Root Browser is set to do this).
I'm sure this will help anyone in a similar situation.

Root browser is not root explorer. Root browser extracts to a folder of the same name as the zip. This is why I link the app also. All I'm trying to do is make it as simple as possible for people who don't even know what a script is. If root browser is not extracting to that named folder then I'm sorry I got it wrong. I don't want people misled by any of this. Please confirm what root app you are using
Use root browser peoples just like the OP stated.
