i was just wondering if anyone knows if its possible to change the splash screen on the galaxy nexus.
I have tried the "fastboot flash splash1 .img" that i used on my nexus one, to no surprise it didnt work, there isnt a 'splash' partition on samsungs as far as im aware.
If i remember correctly on my mates nexus s, he managed to change his by flashing this kernel he found. If it is in the kernel, could anyone tell me how to change it?
cheers in advance
Anyone? really want to change it ...
Bumpppppp.

It's in /system/media, but that will be wiped out every time you flash a new ROM. /data/local is where it should go for a permanent fix.

I appreciate the reply, but what you posted was referring to the bootanimaion, i want to change the splash screen, thats the "Google" logo screen, the first thing you see when you boot your phone

I can't give you a complete answer, but I could maybe point you in the right direction.
Look in /dev/block/platform/omap/omap_hsmmc.0/by-name. That is a list of all the partitions on the GN. We know it's not boot, system, user data, cache, efs, radio, recovery, sbl and xloader. That leaves param, misc, metadata and dgs. Maybe try dumping these and see if any of them can be converted to images (using nbimg.exe).

Try to look at ramdisk, but i think the nexus has a different approach.
Bump, still wondering about this one...
Splash Scren
I came across with your question now!!!
The command is not "fastboot flash splash1 .img" but is "fastboot flash splash1 splash1.img". I hope that helped. If you have tried this please let us know!
I'd suppose it's in the param partition, or better I used to use the param.lfs in a tar, flashed via Odin and did it that way... I'll give it a try and see how that works out...
On second thoughts, I haven't got Windows, I'm running Ubuntu and that usaually has problems with Odin, I'll still try, though!

So, I'm attempting to create a custom bootscreen for my EVO, and was trying to find out if anyone knew how to get a copy of the initial "htc EVO" logo with white background that comes up? I've gone through the file system a few times, but haven't managed to find anything in there (and I've read from other phones that it's some strange hidden file that can be changed, but I'm not looking to change it, merely to a copy of it in a readable format to incorporate it into my own bootscreen animation). Is it hard coded into the phone itself somewhere magically? Any help would be great.

Yeah, that makes sense. I managed to find instructions on how to change it here:
source.android.com/porting/customization.html
But that's not necessarily so helpful in getting my hands on the original image.
It's the splash in the Rom.zip I believe. Or like said above it part of the bootloader
Thread moved to general
Edit please move this to evo general. I accidently moved it here. Sorry

2 years and that question is still not answered.
Still curious.
Hello all,
I have a rooted HTC Droid Incredible with the latest version of the Stock+ ROM, and I personally dislike the green overscroll. I am wondering if there is a way to change it to, say, red; green goes good with the Sense UI, but it doesn't compliment the phone like red does. Aside from that, I'm wondering if there's a way to possibly add an overscroll action that Samsung phones include. I know that CyanogenMod does all this, but the blue theme doesn't appeal to me.
I've read many other threads about re-coloring the overscroll, but all I get in return is UOT Kitchen, which never seems to work.
If anyone could help out with this it'd be greatly appreciated.

UOT is the easiest way to do it. The manual way takes a lot of technical steps. UOT is really very easy to use, you can get instructions here http://uot.dakra.lt/how_to/. If you cant get UOT to work you will never figure out the manual way.
If you cant figure it out you can grab these files from your phone and zip them up, and post a link to them, and i will do it for you. Also tell me the # code of the color red you want.

You can try this even though you dont want my help.
1. Reboot into recovery.
2. Make a backup if you dont already have one.
3. Wipe dalvik-cache from recovery menu - advanced
4. Manually mount /system and /data, and format /cache from recovery menu - mounts and storage.
5. Flash this file Stock+ Red Overscroll.
First boot will take a long time due to wiping dalvik, just be patient.

No problem its all good, sorry if i offended you.
I just got my gnex today. I had a epic 4g previously and flashed roms constantly so Im not a total noob as far as that goes. I used gnex toolbox to unlock bootloader, root and flash cwm, and then I tried first rom which I like which is miui. It would not boo, it just stuck on the splash screen. no biggie so I flashed factory image back and redid cwm and then flashed aokp and right now I have been staring at a unicorn head and animation for about 5 minutes with no end in sight. Am I doing something wrong? I also flashed franco kernel right after flashing aokp. Do I need to boot into rom first then do kernel?
funny that happened to me too, the first time I rooted and flashed, I fixed permissions and it booted,
Try pulling your battery then rebooting. Sometimes when flashing it will hang in boot the first time. If that doesnt work try flashing the rom only. Im no expert on the nexus but my friend's did that and it worked. Sometimes my i777 does it also but rebooting always has solved it for me. I juat happened to see your post on the main page hope it works for you.

Ok fixing permissions didnt work, or reflashing. So I decided to reflash factory rom and it has dissappeared from both my downloads folder and gnex toolkit folder so I have to redownload.
Make sure you are doing a proper full wipe. See my signature.
And above all, make sure you are flashing the correct version or rom for your gn. So many versions out now that who knows.

You said that your nandroid disappeared? Sounds like your bootloader may have locked again, this causes a full wipe, explaining how your nandroid disappeared.

Am I the only person that finds it amusing that someone says "I'm not a total noob" and "I used a toolkit to unlock, root, and flash..." right after one another?
For the problem at hand, have you tried to just wipe data after flashing the ROM/Kernel combo?

actually its more like people dont understand the basics of how to root/unlock phones and then create threads going "HALP i borked my phone!!?!?!"
if you had taken the time to use and learn fastboot, or even how to properly flash a rom, this thread wouldnt have been created.
Hi,
My nexus stop at the booloop so i decided to flash the stock rom with nexus root toolkit but after i tried but is stuck on the part of "writing the system".
Someone know how to solve this?
Have you tried doing it manually from fastboot? If so, does the problem persist?

That's good. In general, if you do use a toolkit and it doesn't work as expected, give the manual method a shot. Toolkits may be more convenient for some people, but they simply can't always be as reliable as the manual method.
I updated my rom this morning to the latest pure. everything went fine. i then rooted my device again everything went fine. i tried to sign into snapchat and forgot i was rooted so i used the toolkit to unroot and when i did it sent me to the no command mode. i hold power and then press volume up and get to recovery mode however i cant get the phone to boot into regular mode. i do the wipe/factory and it wipes but nothing else happens. please help me i am stuck and a noob i use the tool kit to do everything. Im willing to bet it's a issue with the AB system images. If I'm right, you just need to manually flash system_a system.img and system_b system_other.img (flash the vendor, and kernel) but the factory A slot is filled with apks, B is filled with odex files. At least when I last looked, when it first came out. Anyway, your probably trying to boot with half a system. Hopefully for your sake I am right, just try running on all 8 cylinders and see

I remoted into his PC and in fact did get it to fastboot to format it and switch slots because the active slot wasn't taking the image flash. After slots switching it ran the flash all script. Even got him decrypted rooted and running PN.
I knew the issue with his description and found it easier to show rather than explain. But I agree, it needs a wipe.
