Here is what I did
I unlocked the bootloader
I installed CWM
I used CWM to flash superuser
I flashed a ROM (latest MIUI to be specific)
S is also ON. I know it should be off, how can I turn it off at this point?
I can get into recovery, I can install ROMs but the phone will not boot past the HTC logo... help
got a rom to start but now the keyboard keeps crashing :-\
I am wondering if I can get s-off from here? I'm on bootloadeer .98 btw
So, there's two things you can do. You can go back to recovery and download a ROM that's not the current MIUI, which is really buggy. Then, follow my guide #6 in the directory for how to flash ROMs after doing the HTC unlock.
The problem I am having is that I have a custom Recovery installed with S-ON. I need to turn S-Off before I can do any of that. I followed your guide in 6 which links me to a post on installing the recovery, however those instructions state that S must be off. The only ROMs that work are those that resemble stock or install a boot.img in recovery

I have a Wildfire as above.
I was given it with 2.2.1 installed and have boot unlocked thru the HTC Dev website. The bootloader shows that the handset is currently S-on.
Can I root from here to install a custom ROM? And if so, how?
all you need its here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1145035 ...you will need to downgrade your HBoot first, but everything its explain in the link, its not very difficult but it takes a while and its a bit scary first time haha.
You can follow that guide posted above, or a far simpler method would be to flash a Custom Recovery (Via Fastboot) and then flash the ROM of your choice.
Custom Recovery flashing steps can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21310836&postcount=22
Once you have Clockworkmod installed, the instructions to install a Custom ROM can be found here:

Good Luck
CWM is now installed and backup complete.
Will be installing ROM soon. Thank you all for your help!!
hi Fedrat,
I have followed 3xeno' instructions and successfuly installed CWM, however I do not see CWM as an app or an option anywhere when I reboot.
It doesn't solve my S-ON problem and doesn't root my phone still showing HBOOT 1.02.0000 and cannot move to flashing a new rom until that gets out of the way.
What did I miss? and did you successfully install a new ROM?
Thanks
Cwm is an advanced recovery, it's written to the recovery partition which is hidden so the average Joe cannot mess with it.
Press volume down + power to get into hboot when the phone is off, then choose recovery and it will take you there.
Unlocking the bootloader doesn't give root access but it does set you up for it, most roms come pre rooted so once you get into Cwm first backup your stock rom then wipe cache, data, dalvik cache and flash your new rom from the install zip from sd menu.

Hello guys,
Just got my m9 a few hours ago, decided to root,s-off etc
Anyway, I did something stupid and Im stuck on the android logo.
Here is what I did.
-I updated the device through the stock recovery, there was another update but I didnt install i.
- unlocked the bootloader, phone rebooted and was working fine
-installed costume recovery(TWRP), I didnt boot into it because there wasnt and option like in the m8 to boot in recovery from bootloader.
-I reset the device and installed the update(stupid move I knew the stock recovery is not there)
- I got into TWRP and the updated failed so I had the SUbinary.zip so I plashed it and decided to reboot
-Here I got a note that theres no OS installed so I installed android Revolution, I placed it in the sdcard prior
- after flashing it I pressed on reboot yet I get no OS installed and now im stuck on the HTC logo.
BTW I can boot into boot loader but it says sd card not mounted (64GB)
Edit:
I entered into recovery, flashed AR again, its installs everything normally but I realized on the installation log last line : set_metadata_recursive: some changes failed
still I get no OS installed
I got it working now. Anyone whos having this problem just use the beta recovery because the official one is broken
here's a like https://basketbuild.com/devs/Captain_Throwback/One (M9)/Recovery
just flash it normally and install the rom again.
now i will have to go back to stock recovery and download the OTA the flash TWRP again -.-
will the OTA work on the ARHD and stock recovery or thats not possible?

I dont think the OTA will work.
either find the latest full RUU and flash it, or an older RUU, flash it, then do all the available OTAs.
Then redo TWRP and ARHD.

Thats good to hear, sometimes TWRP will say that there isn't any OS installed but actually there is just reboot the device.
After updating through the OTA I installed ARHD and I got the same error again with the latest recovery. I think its because when I did wipe the data there root directory is changing make the phone unable to boot or there is a problem with the rom although it flashed before the update.
Here is a fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/one...h-recovery-t3066720/post59934542#post59934542
If it didn't work try to format data in the recovery and reboot. Make sure you have a ROM or back up on an SD card.
Since your phone is running I would suggest you to S-off because from what I understand is RUU (for Europe) will only work with S-off

I have a Canadian HTC m9 , bootloader unlock, Twrp , rooted.
i was going to do a OTA to get the fix for the camera and heat issue. however on the process to revert back i end up stuck on the HTC splash screen with recover twrp acess .
what i did is did flash my backup file before the root and tried flashing stock recovery file. but no luck.
i tried flashing again the twrp and still no luck. and everytime i tried to reboot it shows NO OS installed.
any suggestion on what i can do to fix it? im kind new in HTC, i read upon the forum and not sure where to get RUU or the right ROM or if i should flash does stuff..... can i get some help?
I would suggest you flash the latest recovery through fastboot (2.8.6.4) from here https://basketbuild.com/devs/Captain_Throwback/One (M9)/Recovery and try to flash a custom rom or run an RUU if there is any for your variant

you solved the problem at the meantime?
if not.
push via adb a rom.zip to your sdcard and flash it via twrp recovery
yes it did fix it, i was able to boot the phone up again however, can i still flash my original back up so that i can get OTA? i tried using Venon ROM and according to them i can get the OTA but when i tried to update it no update available and i know there is one. i check my build # it still the old one, 1.32.401.17 CL506785 release key.
any idea?
thanks for your time.
i have completely messed up my HTC One M9. My HTC has got cynagen mod 13 recovery and no os i tried to install roms and a stock rom through adb but it keeps on failing and whenever I install a new recovery like twrp it fails to load and my htc is just stuck on the booting screen. I have tried adb, cynagen recovery, twrp recovery (didn't turn on), custom roms, stock rom, adb sideload and it always fails i need help guys.
Download the RUU for your device from htcs website then boot to download mode. This will wipe everything and get you back to stock.
I tried booting my HTC ONE M8 into recovery mode and I got a warning sign on the screen which stayed for about 20 mins before the phone automatically rebooted and it's working fine, does this mean that I don't have a working recovery? And how can I fix it. Screenshots attached.
That's a working stock recovery. Why do you need to boot to stock recovery ? You won't be able to install custom ROM with stock recovery, you need custom recovery like TWRP installed first.
BUT first thing you need to do is update your current firmware to at least 4.21.512.4. If not, no use to install TWRP as most custom ROM won't work on your current firmware.
Go back to your thread and read again the link given to you. You won't accomplish anything without reading
