Is there anyway someone could make a mod that makes the search button into a multi task shortcut like in ICS. Like hold it down brings up the multi task but just tap it and its a normal search button

Hi,
I have been looking for a way to assign a custom app to launch when I press the search nav key. In my case, I want to bring up the google search (in all apps and not just the home screen).
The best I could find was long pressing the search key which introduces a delay that I don't like.
Since I lack the knowledge to do this myself, I was wondering if one of you awesome developers could put together something.
I'd greatly appreciate it!
Thanks!

nope that's for holding (long pressing) the search key. that's a standard ics function. there is even an app in the market that allows you to launch any app when you long press the search key.
Since in JellyBean android 4.1 google now utilizes the home button when long-pressed and displays a google search shortcut, why not utilize this even further by adding a shortcut option to the left and right.. one being a Lock Screen shortcut. I bet this will be implemented in a rom in the future.
Well, you don't have to long press...just slide up on the navbar and it should come up. That would be really cool though for someone to do that. I'm sure once its in AOSP, it'll be implemented into roms.

Any more than just a tap triggers this... and I imagine it will be built into the CM10/new AOKP/other JB roms over time. I'd really like to put a voice search button down there to save the screen space from having it in a search bar.
Bump!

I would be interested in this as well. I would like to be able to double tap the home button to launch an app.
Bump.
It would be nice if someone could add some apps on hold home button softkey or add camera on left, lock on right and search on up.

hi this is my first post. I know how to change the touch menu key to do something else, however how do I re map the functionality of the long press home button? I want to make it so that long press home key gives menu, and the menu key is recent apps. Is this possible?

true, However is it possible to make double tap function as the menu button?
You can't change it on stock TW Launcher. You would need a new launcher or the app mentioned in post #3

I am running apex launcher
I've been using this mod on a touchwiz based rom and it's amazing. Search Key goes right into recent apps.
I just switched back to AOKP and although the mod works, it is very strange. It brings up the gingerbread style recent apps rather than the switcher that holding home key brings up.
Does anyone have touchkey.kl files for this mod on an aosp rom? I'd be much obliged. I was spoiled by the mod and hate the delay when holding the home key.
Thanks

If you are using the STOCK rom then it's not easy to change the action of the long press home button.
But by flashing many of these custom roms available here in this Tmobile S3 forum you will find many
custom roms which have options and features which allow you to change the action of the home button.
nova launcher or other launchers is a way too.
i mean how can i change the action when i hold the menu button to CLOSE an app.
im on wicked rom
You should be more specific than, look in the mods list of stuff around the forums. Might be available in the rom already. Did you look in the OP and see if it is an option? I don't see why it wouldn't be. Search in the thread, you have enough post to ask there and get chewed out instead of asking such a vague question in a whole new thread...
