Does it work if you go to advanced restore and try to flash the boot img by it self?
what all is involved with that?
ive never done that before...
and thanks for answereing my questions, you seem to be the only one

The advanced restore works just like a regular restote, except you can restore your partitions one at a time instead of all at once.

How easy/hard is it to do it? I am currently running Amon-Ra, moved to Cyanogen Mod and want to use Clockwork to grab the nightly builds. Is it as simple as installing it in the Clockwork app menu? I don't want to break anything, so I'd appreciate an answer before I do it.
Thanks in advance!
Not hard at all especially if you use rom manager
Just flash it from ROM Manager. If you want to keep your backups, copy /sdcard/nandroid/ to the ROM Manager Nandroid folder... Which I forget off the top of my head.
I suppose it's easy, but when I tried to flash Amon-RA today, it just booted me into fastboot, and I couldn't get to recovery until I flashed back clockwork. It could also just be because I did something to my rom, and I also can't install anything, from anywhere >_>
but you know, meh

Same thing happened to me w/ Amon-Ra. I guess I'm going to use Clockwork forever.

did you try flashing Amon-RA from ROM manager? maybe it's just doing something wrong with it cause it likes clockwork to much

This is the Amon-RA recovery topic, and near the bottom of his post, it tells you how to do it manually, then you can just use ROM Manager to get back to Clockwork if needed

Thanks for the link, but I still can't get it to flash. I tried fastboot and nothing opens up. I then tried on ADB, but I get the following error: mtd: not writing bad block at 0x00340000

no clue. I haven't tried it myself yet. I was thinking about it earlier... but I'm lazy. Maybe just try again? or do it from a terminal on the phone (using connectbot or something)

Haha. Thanks. I'm done fooling around w/ Ra. Clockwork has worked just fine for me, even though it doesn't wipe dalvik.
I have the same issue. I cant get it to work. I get the Writing... FAILED: (update image error)
Got clockwork to work again. i might download amon again?
One thing to remember though (from what I've seen), is that they use nand differently, so if you back something up with clockwork, make sure you restore it with clockwork or it may not restore correctly. If you backup with clockwork, restore with clockwork. If you backup with ar, restore with ar.
Sent from my blah blah blah blah
when i download anything from rom manager i wont install it just goes the clockwork main menu then i restart phone go back into rom manager and he tells me clockwork is broken not sure what to do
i can still nand back up and restore and install zips it just has to be done through clock work which means i cant do the adons for virtous rom and such any ideas
I would unroot leave s-off alone them re-root and reinstall the custom recovery. that is one program you dont want crashing while a flash is in progress. you may end up with a $600 brick.
i reflashed clockwork and no avail it still says recovery failure in rom manager any help would be great
Try, in ROM Manager, flashing to a downgrade of Clockwork, back up to the current one, and Fix Permissions. That's what ROM Manager says to do, but I've never had it work. I've used Jonathan062 suggestion in the past, and it worked.
works fine for me, i have 2.2 with root and S-off and i just hit install and it worked fine.

Yes, your nandroid will still work. You can actually take your nandroid and restore it to a completely different Incredible.
Are you talking about the Amon_Ra style recovery? I haven't tried it, but from the thread linked here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=758874&page=11 it looks like people are having mixed success.
ok i have a MAJOR problem. im kind of a noob at this stuff so im still learning. i was messing in my system files trying different phone.apk. i think i may have deleted something essential. when i turn my phone on it doesnt get past the boot animation. my phone was rooted with unrevoked 3. but everytime i try to install a new rom using clock work recovery, it gets to the part where it "opens update pakage" and just stops and goes back to the first menu screen of clockwork. i dont have a nandroid backup either so i cant even restore.
Did you wipe everything before flashing?
Which rom did you try flashing?
yes i wiped everything. i tried multiple roms like cm 6, and stock. none worked. also. everytime i try to load up the pc36img.zip nothing happens it says "no image or wrong image"
You should try using Amon_RA instead. Just flash it using ROM Manager. Good Luck.
is it possible for me to change to amon? im not able to get past my boot screen on my phone, so if it requires me to turn my phone completely to use it, then i cant. i dont really know much about amon.
Search for the Amon_RA thread. If you downgraded your HBOOT, you can flash from Fastboot. If not, you can try an RUU.

. I'm using ROM Manager with ClockworkMod, and every attempt leads to the screen flashing code for a few moments, and going right into the ClockworkMod Recovery main menu. it wont let me flash ANYTHING period. I have HBOOT-0.97. i dont know what can be the problem. and Amon RA is too complicated for me to understand right now cuz im still a noob. :-(
I had a nightly running perfectly so decided to back it up in Rom Manager. After backing up it got stuck in booting loop. Couldn't get anything to work in recovery so ended up flashing a stock ROM in hboot (still with root). Now trying to install RC3 but get an error in recovery.
CM report log's last entry says:
line1: unexpected character at 'u'
Syntax error in update script
Any ideas? I'd like to be able to restore one of my older backups (a sense rom) if possible.

Try flashing CW manually and restoring your previous nandroid manually as well
Hope this helps
I always flash using Clockwork. I use Rom Manager to get the ROM but I perform the actual flash in Clockwork. You'll have fewer issues if you do.
Thanks for the replies. I rolled-back to an earlier version of ClockworkMod, then reflashed CyanogenMod. That worked. Not sure what happened to start this because I was just trying to do a backup. I did have SetCPU installed and overclocked so maybe that had something to do with it.

I went to 3.0.0.7 but I'm back to 3.0.0.8 now. And just flashed RC4. Working great so far. Very fast.
As long as you fixed your problem, we're good, right? Also, try RA if you're having too many problems with CWM

I tried to install the INC_signed_4.06_stock_plus, but when i try to install it i get an error "failed: write image" and it gets aborted. When i try to flash my backup i get a "MD5 mismatch" error. when i tried to use different backup that i have used before i get the same error. I'm on Clockworkmod 5.0.1.0. Can anyone help me. Thanks

What exactly is that you're trying to install?
Right away I'm assuming its something not designed to be used on the G2/DZ.
If you created the backup with Clockworkmod 3.0.2.4 then I suggest going back to that version and trying to re-flash your recovery. It has been noted in several threads that Clockworkmod 5 doesn't exactly work right some of the time. Also what is "INC_signed_4.06_stock_plus". I did a search for this and couldn't find anything.
It was a rom that was here about an hr ago, but seems it was taken down. It has a lot of the things i wanted like vol -/+ to change track, data on/off and it was near stock.
How would i revert back to Clockworkmod 3.0.2.4? Also the new back up I made was created in 5.0.1.0.
Thank you, guys for the quick replies.

Easy way to go back to version 3 is through ROM manager, scroll down to all recoveries and select from list,I may be wrong but I don't think you can restore a backup made on a newer version so a backup made on 5 will not work on 3,you could also try to upgrade to 5.0.2.0 but alot of people, including myself have had a problem with this version hanging sometimes at the HTC screen.
Once again thank you guys.
There are other ROMs that have volume button media controls. I know CM7 does.
and if the ROM got taken down that quickly you probably didn't want it anyways...
Yup what they said, plus recovery version 5 gave me problems too, 3.0.2.4 worked where the newer one failed.
