Gallery App Not Working - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi, it seems that i have installed 2 roms on my nexus gsm. One is the manhattan rom and the other is the Team Kang Milestone 4. Have tried the manhattan one first, camera app lets me take photos, but when i want to browse through the photos, it wont allow me. i use gallery, and it said, "no storage, no external storage available". same thing happened when i install the team kang milestone 4. now im worried, plz help. is it rom problem or phone problem? sry for my bad eng...

Try downloading a file, or otherwise exploring your storage to see if that is the issue. Then go to settings -> apps -> all and clear the data for gallery.
Are you wiping everything between flashing different roms?

Storage no issue. Available 10gb. tried the settings part. doesnt work. Im wiping everything when im installing rom, but after wiping everything i install the milestone 4 and a aokp theme. tried manhattan, also the same problem

someone plz help...

same problem =/ everything works fine except the gallery app, tried AOKP build 31 and Black ICE 31.31...

Bring up the thread.
Stock Gallery app (from AOKP B34) showed "No external storage available" then quitted. QuickPic can see everything, but keeps showing up "unable to open database file" and had to cache again everything. The MTP file transfer isn't working properly right now, everything takes a very long time to show up.
I rebooted like 50 times already. Also tried wiped and reflashed. Already tried Android Revolution HD wipe zip file. No difference.
Anyone managed to fix this?
Edit: Fixed this using the ToolKit, re-locked and re-unlocked the bootloader, everything on the sdcard card folder gone. Must have been something wrong with the partition. Anyway, this is shame. Gotta be some more civilized way to do this.

Same problem here, "No external storage available" when opening the Gallery app.

This does not help for me.
I already did that before flashing the ROM to have a really clean device.

are you guys doing full wipes here?
in cwm
1) wipe cache/factory reset
2) mounts and storage > wipe /system
3) flash rom
4) flash gapps
5) advanced > wipe dalvik
6) reboot phone

I have this same problem, AOKP b36 and franco kernal M3.
Gallery won't open but ES file explorer etc can see the photos fine.
Full wipe did not fix it.
Just backing everything up and will try lock/unlock bootloader
edit: hooray, locking/unlock did indeed fix the problem. Thanks

I also had this problem with QuickPic (on a different device). Solved the problem by formatting the sdcard. I did NOT need to touch the system.

[Issue] Most of my apps can't have access to Internal Storage

Hi everyone, three days ago i updated my Galaxy Nexus to the latest 4.2 version, from the stock 4.2 (the one without december in the people app).
Yesterday i started to realize some weird behaviors with overall apps, and here are some of them:
. Câmera app : Photo is taken, but can't visualize it
. Galery app : Shows ammount of photos in each album, but all the thumbnails are solid gray, and no photo can be selected for visualization
. Swiftkey Keyboard : Keeps raising error related to "Dynamic Language Packs" (since swiftkey stores the dynamic packs in the sdcard/internal storage, this might be another access issue)
. All apps that use camera activity : Camera is loaded but once i took the photo, it does not return to the app, and the camera app keeps open. No photo is returned to the app that invoked the camera aswell
. Dropbox : Can't export to internal storage any file, sometimes it manages to finally "read" the internal storage and show me directories structure, and sometimes it doesn't. In both situations, file "fails to export".
This seems a really weird behavior to me, and i thought that it might be a "Permission" issue, so i got in recovery mode and fixed permissions, but nothing got solved.
Is there any other step i might take before having to actually try a full wipe / factory reset ?
Having to reinstall / reconfigure all the apps is a pain in the butt, and since i can't backup them with titanium because of the internal storage issue, i would have to do it "manually".
By the way : Play store can update and download apps with no problem at all, so this is not a hardware issue for sure.
Try this wipe cache via recovery and dalvik cache and then flash latest root.
This should work.

Wiping cache and Dalvik Cache will not erase all my internal storage right ?
EDIT: Wiping Cache and Dalvik have not worked
Weird Issue:
After booting up into recovery mode, and try to Install .ZIP from sdcard, the CMW does not actually find any other folder in my sdcard than some weird ones like "0", "odb" and "legacy".
What are those folders ?
Why it does not sees the other folders ?

Nevermind, i just reinstalled the Factory Stock 4.2 Android and updated to 4.2.1 OTA
Then i rooted it and everything is ok now.

Did I brick my SGS3 ? ^_^

All right, first thing first. Thanks to everybody for this amazing forum and all support.
Well. Here's my story:
1) Planned on installing CM10 nightly
2) Went to recovery (TWRP v2.2.0) and by mistake wiped everything :/ (Cache, Dalvik Cache, Factory Reset, System Internal Storage)
3) In effect i wiped everything including system.
4) Still have access to TWRP and download mode.
Does anybody have a clue how to fix that and install CM10 again?
PS.
1) internal storage does not mount under system (WIN7)
2) TWRP does not recognize microSDXC (32gbz) formated to either exFat or NTFS. (Tried 4 (four) of them)
Should i buy another micro sd like 2gb, format it to Fat32 and drop CM.zip there ? Or need i do something else?
Very respectfully.
That happened to me I just downloaded the rom to a sd card from my old phone put it in my s3 and installed it.

Hey thank you for quick answer. Do you know if there is any limitation for TWRP? It does not read my 32gb MicroSDXC.
Go into download mode and re flash then stock rooted rom.
Then install your twrp and try cm again.

Personally, I would (try to?) use adb with the phone booted into TWRP to transfer the ROM you want to flash over to the phone's internal storage, and go from there.
If that's not a possibility for whatever reason, you'd be best off starting by reflashing a stock rooted image with Odin and going from there.
Well. First of all thank you all for all your help in support. Got it back to stock with root (Odin flash). However there is another small problem that i can't figure out. TWRP itself seem not to have access to anything. I mean it sees all / but after openning /sdcard or anything else all it sees is empty folders. It doesn't have an access to external sd either (when you check log it sees that it couldn't mount ext sd correctly [even if after boot to stock system it recognizes it witout any issues).
Any idea how to solve this problem? What has been tried:
1) Reflash recovery (TWRP 2.2 using ODIN)
2) moving all files to /
3) RootExplorer see files (cm.zip) after reboot TWRP doesn't
4) Installing GooManager (it crashes after granting supersu permissions)
Very Respectfully.
With all those problems, flash to stock rooted and start over. You will be better off in the long run. You may want to also format your external sd.
Don't flash twrp with Odin.
Rooted stock
Dl and use goo manager to get twrp
What about a stock kernel? Just my chime in

Allright small update.
1) ReFlashed to rooted stock (root66_ATT_I747UCDLK3.tar.md5)
2) Installed GooManager
3) Installed TWRP (using GooManager)
4) Downloaded lastest CM10 nightly (cm-10.1-20121218-NIGHTLY-d2att.zip) using GooManager
5) Flashed cm-10.1-20121218-NIGHTLY-d2att.zip from GooManager menu (FlashROM) - Wiped Dalvik & Cache
Now I'm stacked with CM boot splash for past 5 min hoping it just takes longer that it should.
Any ideas?
Very Respectfully.
EDIT:
Booting into recovery and performing factory reset fixes problem.
Thanks to everybody who helped.

GJ take it sure and slow. Other than flashing stock/rooting form Odin I wouldn't flash anything form Odin. Once you have super user on your phone, leave Odin out and do everything from phone
That's the safest route and it gets easier from here. The countless hours you spent are much easier the more you do it. Shouldn't take more than 20 minute to backup and flash roms and new apps from now on
Oh boy.
Almost done. But here are another tiny problems that just bother me and but I think they're solvable.
1) GooglePlay suddenly gives "No Connection" error, even though every other app that requires connection (Messenger, Browser) work just fine.
Have to mention that it worked for a while, installed couple apps (drop some more to install in queue and when I woke up - FAIL!)
Things done:
-Forced to stop
-ClearedData & Cache
Is there any other solution to fix it rather than reflashing gapps ?
2) The ExternalSD is mounted under PC as Internal Storage and vice versa.
When you click "Samsung -GHS-I747) in my computer it shows both with proper sizes but once you click them it opens the other.
No clue how to solve that one.
Very respectfully.

1. you are flashing a version of gapps that is out of touch with your rom or you did not flash it correctly/cleanly. I remember no matter how many times I flashed gapps I wouldn't get it to sync. Backed all user apps to Titanium backup. Did a clean install from scratch, and wallah it worked. Last sort.
Without doing that though there is usually one that is compatible that is listed on your rom page. Flash that one. For me that is 10/22 but I remember it giving that same error for a while so I ended up flashing the previously compatible version before that which was 7/26. Goo.im might help here, I haven't used it myself. Once you find a working gapps version etc. Store your 'safe' builds in one folder
2. Not sure what you mean. When you click your phone you should see internal and external storage on your phone. They are what they say they are. People tend to piss on not being able to find the right file size and folder attributes on this phones usb mount. It is a common problem. Probably one of the few problems on the phone. Annoying but manageable

1) Ended up reflashing gapps with goomanger (script to TWRP)
2) What i mean is that under phone it recognizes them perfectly. Just when I connect phone through USB to PC, my PC tends to mix them up. Just shows ExSD as Internal and Internal as ExSD. No biggy, just tried to fix as many tiny issues as possible before I hit deployment.

Found CM 10.1 M2 maguro, updated it, with wiping dalvik cache, i didn't wipe data/factory reset.
Then gapps 121212.
Bang. Working fine but with some issues.
1. Clock stop working pop up appears once or twice. But clock is working great.
2. I couldn't manage to find my camera images, whats app images, screenshots, downloads images, Bluetooth images in Gallery.
3. My all audio songs are gone or hidden. i don't know. Apollo stop working pop up appears. Movies were there in Gallery. They seems fine.
4. In file manager, or when connecting through USB, i had quite many folders, like 0, but now 0 isn't there. This mod mixed up the 0 folder with main directory folders.
Please Help. Thanks

My clock app also has this problem. Additionally I cannot access alarms as this causes the clock app to crash.
Clean install means wipe everything, factory reset.?
I am afraid if i do so, i have to install all of my apps again, all accounts and data will be lost. I know i back it up, but the thing is how can i redirect myself to the same page as i am now. Like fb dp sync, skype, blah blah.

But I am kind of little lazy, i mean if i clean install my gnex, then from play store i have to install all my apps one by one. Then enter credentials one by one in each and every app. Then joining contacts. O god

You don't have to do the factory reset from the settings menu if you do it through recovery.
In recovery:
factory reset
wipe data
wipe cache
wipe dalvik cache
format /system
flash rom.zip
flash gapps.zip
fix permissions
reboot
If you use Titanium Backup to backup all 'user apps' just before you install the ROM, and then restore 'user apps plus data' after you install the new ROM, all of your user apps' credentials, logins, etc will be restored. Just don't backup or restore any system apps or system data.
Contacts allows you to export contacts to the sdcard and restore them later.
If you also want to backup and restore phone log and messages, there are umpty-zillion apps to do that.
You should wipe system, cache, dalvik, and factory reset in your recovery before installing the new ROM.
Thanks guys, for the help, anyways M2 is working great, Battery time is little low, Cant found the option (dont lock phone after ending call).

If it's not under the "security" section in settings I would check the settings in the "Dialer" or "Phone" app.
Nopes its not there, not in security, dialer or phone.

AFAIK my phone has never locked after a call ends.. Maybe you have an app that is doing that for you?.

Q TWRP Cannot wipe data/factory reset due to multiple lost+found folders

Using TWRP 2.6.3.0, I'm unable to wipe data. Every time I try, I get
"wiping data without wiping /data/media
E: error opening '/data/lost+found'
done."
I excluded the nonessential bits, if anyone wants a full log (something something partition details), I can make one.
I using ES File Explorer with root explorer on, I checked out /data and found two lost+found folders, which I think is causing my issue. I've tried deleting just one, but a second one is automatically generated. If I delete them both, then they're automatically recreated as well. If I delete them both and then remake one immediately after, another one will be remade.
I also checked the rest of the /data folder, and I did not find any lost+found files, so I'm pretty sure it's just the folders messing things up
I checked this thread, but I didn't find anything useful
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39497772
I ended up here after I accidentally wiped my internal storage with TWRP. I went from a 4.3 AOSP rom to 4.1.2 stock (HD RLS16). I wiped the 4.3 rom, but I think I accidentally wiped internal storage then as well, or maybe something was messed up with TWRP because the storage folder for 4.3 isn't in data/media (or at least not for the rom I was using). After that I used hyperdrive, which was super buggy with Gapps and didn't work at all. After adding an account, everything kept force closing, and things were extremely slow and took minutes to open, even after removing the account and wiping cache+dalvik.
I thought it had to do with the rom, so I went and wiped stuff, then went to CM 10.1.3 stable, but that didn't boot at all, so I tried wiping again and going to liquidsmooth 2.9, which is where my problems started again. I attempted to wipe again and go back to cm10.1.3. The wipe failed, but cm10.1.3 worked.
any ideas on how I can fix this? I was unable to find help on google.

This has happened to me twice and the only solution i have found was to wipe internal storage. unfortunately i wasnt able to backup my internal storage before wiping so eveything i had on my phone was erased. Everything in your external is safe you dont have to worry but if you had important files or anything that you wouldnt erase on your internal storage then that is very unfortunate.
As for me, i now backup everything maybe like once a month or so, just in case something like this happens again.
Its happened to me also and I could not resolve it without the wipe, that was the only viable solution that worked for me.

Although if you're using twrp I just found out you can still save some of your precious files.
How? Simple
You can go into recovery and into the file manager. I think it's in settings or advanced I'm not sure. But I know that is built into twrp. So then just go into your internal storage and select the files and move them to the external storage.
If it's your first time using the file manager then you'll have to get used to it because it's not 100% noob friendly
And remember the bigger the file the longer it'll take to move so just be patient.

Everything is working fine save from the little issue that I'm not being able to write to the internal storage. For example, if someone sends me a picture via whatsapp, the phone can't store it. If I use ES explorer and try to make a folder, I can't.
I've tried wiping everything, and problem persists.
Can you help me?
Did you format internal storage when you switched from cm to touchwiz? Not just a wipe for a clean flash, the format data where you have to type "yes" to confirm.
Permissions problems are not unusual when switching between cm and touchwiz, but typically touchwiz just refuses to boot up at all.

Yes, I have done that exactly, but not sure whats going on as I can't write to it.
I have restored my CM11 backup and I can write to it no problem.
What else can I try ?
Thank you!!
edit: Typo
You could try the fix permissions button in twrp.
I'm not sure that will help. Format internal in twrp was my goto for this sort of problem.
Ye I've tried that too.
Thanks!!
