use rom manager from the market. make sure to delete dalvk cash

Clear Dalvk Cache, it makes a big difference

ok
1. so first i put the rom file on my sd card
2. then i go into recovery
3. clear dalvk cache, clear battery stats, clear cache partition
4. go to install zip from sd card, chose my rom and install it
5. restart my phone
i think thats what were supposed to do.
But my phone just keeps restarting, and nothing comes on!!

you need to perform a full wipe before flashing a new rom
it's the "wipe data/factory reset" option within recovery. this will format the phone properly. if you don't do this bits of system and data partitions get mixed up hence it won't boot. dalvik cache and cache are just caches...wiping them rarely solves anything.
also check that your SD card meets the ROM requirements, for instance it may require that you have an ext partition, use gparted or recovery for this, but backup your sd card to PC first

You can try this before you install new rom:

Hello,
I have a S-ON phone unlocked with htcdev.
I tried two ROMS from m1ndh4x8r, with or without overclock, but it always failed like you. White screen with HTC logo and nothing starts. I am 100% sure I did everything right...
Then I tried another ROM, HenseMod5, and it worked perfectly at the first try ! I don't know what's wrong with my device (if anything). Now HenseMod6 is out, I am installing right now.
So, try this ROM (I took the stock one):

I am very pleased with this.

thanks alot bro.......HenseMod worked for me too!!!!!!!
although im not sure why the others dont work for me..........maybe because of some of the feature the have and HenseMod doesnt.......

Glad to know it helped you
I don't know either why the others don't work, but I haven't really tried to figure it out. HenseMod is fine and works great for me, so I don't need another one.
By the way, I upgraded from HenseMod5 to 6 and everything's fine.

Phone rebooting and freezing after flash....

Hello,
I think i need some help here....
I have flashed dozens of roms and have not had any problems but i have just tried another there going from LeeDroid to AuraxTSense and now my phone either goes in a boot loop or freezes.
I can get into recovery and have wiped everything and tried to recover my nanadroid backup but it still freezes at bootscreen or loops.
I noticed at the end of the nandroid restore it said MD5 Mismatch.
Can anyone help me out here?
Cheers.
I had the same problem a few weeks ago. The problem came from my sdcard.
After installing a rom try booting without the sdcard/with an other sdcard. You can also try to format the sdcard on your computeur (sd-ext included).
You could also run a logcat when stuck/bootloop, this will give u more information.
Hope this help

i seem to be having the same problems, other sdcard did not help though
Trying to go back to some older ROMS to get another kernel..
EDIT: a little summary:
wiped everything, partitioned the SD card (tried with swap, without swap, with ext3 and ext4 partititons)
-tried both 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2 and 32.48.00.32U_5.11.05.14 radios
-tried switching back to 7.8.1 (worked) and than to 7.9 again (didn't work)
-with 7.8.1 tried to flash the OC kernel alone (didn't work)
What does didn't work mean:
White HTC BootScreen Loop maybe 10 times .. than just stays there (tried to wait for 2 hours - still nothing)
HBOOT version 0.80
Flashing with Clockworkmod Recovery using ADB (maybe i could try a newer one.... any links plz? couldn't google it down)
T-Mobile HTC Desire - unbranded and rooted
16GB Class 2 Kingston SD
The problem came from your sdcard.
You dont need to change the sdcard.
Take it out, format on your computer (use usb format tool maybe better), copy your ROM to sdcard, install it.

Nope any ROM with an overclocked kernel does not work for me - it only boot loops and than freezes at the white htc boot screen.
Wiping didn't help - look up - tried nearly everything....
Sometimes Clockworkmod doesn't format the sdcard properly.
Same problem happenned to some people trying to flash Sense HD rom and getting bootloop.
You can try with adb in recovery :
cd /sd-ext

I have this problem too. And in my opinion - sd card not a reason of phone freeze and reboot. I think here is a problem with kernel. I change 2 sd cards, a lot of rom's and problem did;nt dissapears. After, I flash unroot rom - phone was dead. Now I waiting for the phone , when they will return me from a service. So I think the problem is on kernel, not ROM.
Thanks for the replies.
I formated my card but the only rom that seems to be working for me is Leedroids, nandroid restore is still not working with other backups i saved on my PC.

[Q] is my phone brick

hi and thanks for the help in advances.
well the problem is i have intalled on my phone cynogen 7.0.3 and my phone start to acting wierd so and just try to change the rom and i format the phone but when i try to intall any rom and i try to use it and I get a error, it said system no repond and doesnt work and i stil have clockmod working but my phone have s-on so i dont understand can somebody help me please thanks
Come on no one,,,please
What do you mean "format the phone"?
If you are S-On, you can't install any custom ROMs, only the "official" ROM for your carrier/version.
You can try to get S-Off again, or you can try to flash the official ROM.
I try to install the stock rom and its said system stop working,, I don't understand because I have clockmod working like its root cause that's the way the I have it before but it said s-on now...and I don't think there is a way to take s-on by clockmod,,,,at least I need the stock.....I think
And thanks for respond
So you installed CM, then tried installing the stock ROM? And is that when you noticed S-On?
Flashing a stock ROM removes root. It isn't supposed to make S-On. But it appears that might be the case.
No with cm the start acting crazy so I try to put another rom on the phone and I can install any rom but doesn't work...I try to go back to cm and when I notice I have s-on
U think there is a way to install any rom on my phone or root the phone from clockmod
Its very hard to understand what you did. Please list out (as best you can recall), step by step the name of each ROM you tried to flash, and where you noticed S-On.
ok let me explain
first i have cm 7.0.3 and star working weird so i try to put a new rom cm nightly and dont work its said system fc
and then a restard the phone and use volume down and power botton to get to bootload option thas when i notice i have s-on i try to put this PC10IMG and it said is older and fail then i try stock rom
PC10IMG_Vision_TMOUS_1.19.531.1_Radio_12.21.60.09b_26.02.01.15_M2_release_149459_signed
and i got the system error againg its doesnt load nothing,,,,i get the screen when u use the phone for the first time, but when the phone try to go into home i get syste error and doesnt do anything,, i try a couple different rom and the all do the same
i hope u understand
I don't understand how you are flashing custom ROMs, if you are S-On.
Do you have a nandroid you can restore?
Are you doing a full wipe (dalvik, cache, and data) when flashing a new ROM? You might even go into recovery now, wipe each of those, reboot and see if that helps.
cause i was off before, this is what i have on the

I ALREADY DID THE WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET EVERY TIME I TRY TO INSTALL A NEW ROM, WIPE CACHE TOO AND DALVIVK CACHE
i did thar already every room system is not responding i try so many diferent rom,,,and i have S-Off before i dont now how is back on, i even try stock rom is the samething do u knoe any threat for root from clockmod,,i have ver 3.0
You had better try rerooting your phone.
I can't get the any rom working..there is a way to do it by clockmod

Phone hangs after new ROM install

Hello all!
Yesterday I decided I wanted to try the latest RCMix ROM (v2.2b). Usually I do the update from ROM Manager, but it informed me there was a new version to download so I downloaded it.
Anyway, I proceeded with it and installed the ROM and everything went fine, until it rebooted, which it then just hung on the s-off boot screen. I waited for an hour but to no avail so had to take out the battery.
So, I tried to do it again manually by doing a factory wipe/clear cache/clear dalvik cache and flashed again, but again, same thing happened even though it said it had installed ok. I tried doing this 5 times before I gave up (although leaving 20 minutes on the boot screen before giving up each time)
Next I decided that maybe it was the new version of the ROM, so I downloaded the v2.1 of it, but still got the same problem, so then I decided to try my original one (v2.0) because it worked fine previously, but this also didn't work!
Finally, I decided I best try a different ROM altogether, so I tried the LeeDroid ROM (which I've used in the past, albeit a previous version), but this also has the same problem.
So, I'm a bit stuck what to do, hence why I've had to post on here. I've read that the latest clockworkmod recovery has some issues, does this still apply? Could this be the cause of my problem? I've tried finding a previous version of clockworkmod to install via sd card to test it out, but had no luck finding one.
Does anyone else have any suggestions on what I can do? Please bare in mind that I'm not very good with all the technical side of this so please try keep it as simple as possible for me!
My phone recovery says the following:
AlphaRev CM7 r2
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.93.1002
MICROP-031d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNW0101
RADIO-5.10.05.23

I'm going to remember this for the future!
After me being impatient (you'll probably be disheartened to hear) I've decided to go the stock way to try get me back to the beginning. After a lot of messing around (reformatting sd-card and placing files on it via a laptop which had the files put on there via USB flash drive!) I think I've managed to get it down to stock again. The bootloader screen thingy says:
BRAVO UNKNOWN SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.75.0000
MICROP-031d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNW0101
RADIO-4.05.00.11
and when I try select the RECOVERY option it just displays the red triangle (I believe this is because it's not rooted or something (can't currently remember how got it working last time)?)
The problem now though is I would have though I should be able to boot normally now? What happens is when I press the power button it just goes straight into the bootlader screen.
At the triangle, you press vol UP + Power to get to stock recovery. Cant do much there but factory reset though.
did you fastboot flash the downgrader.img from Alpharev before running the RUU?

I've just tried the up + power but when I do it displays the menu options i.e. Apply sdcard:update.zip and wipe data/factory reset; however, it has a yellow message below saying E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command ..... should I be concerned?

I'd be tempted to factory reset then run an RUU again.

I've just tried the following RUU after doing a factory reset:
RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_121865
However when going through the instructions it said that my current image is:
2.29.405.5
I proceeded anyway by pressing Update, and it ended up with the following error:
ERROR[140]: BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR
From what I've quickly googled, it sounds like I got that error because the RUU I was trying to install was less than the one currently installed? If so then how can I get one that is newer as I can't see any newer ones than that!
EDIT: I'll try using the one you suggested again
If it starts with a 1 its android 2.1. You do not want that. It must start with a 2 at least

[Q] Elk759's JB Rom not booting

Hi to all !
Pardon me if the question has already been asked.
I have actually the 0.27 of Elk759's JB Rom installed on my Desire (S-On, no Sd-Ext or whatsoever). I wanted today to install 0.34 every time I get stuck on boot animation. Not even a reboot. Just stay on boot animation. And I had the same problem on versions after 0.27.
I have made all the wipes twice (Data, cache, dalvik) to be sure, but the always stay on boot.
Have I forgotten any requirements ?
Thanks for all !

@Monkeypox95, in the OP of the thread it says, YOU NEED GAPPS TO USE THIS ROM, have you flashed them straight after flashing the rom.zip?
also, if you start to install apps, you'll run out of space quite quickly without sd-ext partition. i recommend s-off, install 4ext recovery, backup sd card and partition using 4ext. enable a2sd using instructions in first post.

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention that I am on stock hboot AND that I have flashed the Gapps straight after having flashed the rom.
Hi all,
I am new here and new to flashing phones with new rom's. I rooted my desire with the package: revolutionary-0.4pre4.zip
that is successfully installed. I can boot in to the recovery mode. After that i made a backup and did a full whipe. I installed the 0.34 rom (without a2sd). And directly after that (no reboot in between) i installed gapps using the link provided in the dev thread.
I have the same result, phone hangs on the CM bootscreen.
I will now try the latest update with a2sd and will let you know if i have a better result.
Thnx in advance!
~Spud
EDIT1: Got no luck with the a2sd version.
as mentioned above i think i should look at the hboot for this problem.
I am currently on hboot 6.93.1002 S-off.. is that bad for this rom?
EDIT2: So,... after doing some more reading i reformatted the SD card. with the largest available size, for swap and data. After a reboot and hanging at the bootscreen for a couple of minutes the phone has booted!
Hopes this might come in handy for some of you folks.
Thank you Elk759 its running very smooth at this moment. Did not really expect this performance from this old phone

[Q] Stuck in the process of getting more space for app's

Hello XDA members
This is my first post. I've read all the rules and mantra's and watched the video. I hope someone can help me. I've read a lot of threads prior to posting, but i'm stuck. The thing is, i'm not quite sure where i am in the process of rooting my Desire and freeing up space. This is because it's a couple of month's since i began the process, and i stopped because i got stuck back then. I should have posted right away, having everything i've done fresh in memory, but i didn't. I now understand that i tried to do a lot of technical stuff before actually knowing what i was doing. Noob!
End goal: more memory
My Desire runs Gingerbread 2.3.3
This is the guide i was using: techspalace.blogspot.dk/2011/10/perm-root-htc-desire-gingerbread-233.html
My thinking was, that i needed to root to be able to run apps that i can use to install app's to SD card.
I don't think i've rooted the Desire yet.
Well today i followed the guide in the link, and i tried to get into recovery mode, but i couldn't.
When i start in boot mode, it says:
-Revolutionary
BRAAVO PVT4, SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.93.1002
MICROP-051D
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.17.05.23
AUG. 10 2010, 17:52:18
What to do...?
Thanks

Yes, you should. Flash this file from recovery:
http://download.chainfire.eu/315/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.25.zip
After that, follow the partitioning guide in my sig.

Then flash a recovery first. The partitioning guide also has a recovery flashing tutorial. Use either the fastboot method, or the pb99img method.

Ok, I've partitioned the SD card. (BTW, good guide you've made)
- should i continue and install Mounts2sd or CronMod? - but I need to be rooted to do this right?

Thanks.
Now i recommend you to flash the supersu zip i linked earlier, backing up all your apps with titanium backup, and installing a custom rom. A custom rom, besides probably having an integrated a2sd script, is a lot faster than the stock rom, and it doesn't have bloatware.

Ok, ive flashed supersu, i don't think i need to backup any app because i ran a fresh recovery before starting this thread - or do i? Installing a custom rom you say...does this mean it's rooted now because of supersu?
can you recommend a custom rom?
You backup your personal apps, like.. i don't know... a game with a highscore. If you don't have any, then you don't need to backup. Maybe only contacts, and sms. Check the play store apps that do that.
I recommend starting with MildWild Redux, the one i'm using now.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2031467
It's fast and stable, and easy to handle, plus you get low battery consumption.
If you want a sense rom, try RSK. It's fast and stable as well, and you can tweak it from the RSK settings.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431908
Steps to flash:
1. Download the rom zip, and place it on your sd-card.
2. Backup your apps and contacts (optional)
3. Boot in recovery.
4. Select the "backup" option. This is a nandoid backup. If anything goes wrong with the rom you're trying to flash, this will restore your previous rom entirely.
5. In the wipe menu, select "wipe all partitions except sd-card".
6. Install the rom.
7. Wait for it to boot (first boot up to 15 min).
8. Enjoy.

Yes, you are now rooted, as you have supersu :good: Now you can mess through your system files :silly: Or, you can follow abaaaabbbb63 reccommendations and try some custom ROMs.
Mildwild cm 8 is also good
