[Q] automagic backup of specific sd folders to a network share - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to be able to select specific file folders on the sd card to backed up.
I would like the app to automagically connect to a network share (my home network) in the middle of the night and copy the most current on the sd to the network.
I know there are apps like titanium, but from what I can tell, they backup to the cloud, and I dont want that....any suggestions?
thanks for your time

Is there any new updates on this?

[Q] Emails go to phone memory

Hi everyone,
Hope you can help me out how to move the emails to SD card because my email app is linked to microsoft exchange and all of the emails along with the attachments go straight to my phone memory. Is there a way to move or permanently re-direct the emails to SD card
Thank you XDA.
Hope I can get a good soul to help me. Thanks in advance.

Move the email app to SD card?
It's the stock email app. How can it be moved?

Owh I thought third party email app. Seems like there's no other way. :/
If you have root you could link2sd i think or convert to user instead of system app and move it then i think but not sure.

Phone is already rooted. Haven't tried link2sd though. I think link2sd is just sharing some part of the app from phone mem and sd card but it doesn't link incoming files/data to sd card.
Hope there can be a work around.
I usually check pdf and ppt files before I go to sleep and do some gaming for awhile. the phone runs slows because of incoming emails that potentially fills up the phone memory.
As a solution, i restored factory settings first and have a clean run of phone memory and not synched my email yet. I have tried different apps such as maildroid but they all save data on phone memory.
It was nice getting response from you guys. hope there is a solution for this.
Please advise.
Thank you.

Is there a way to set default media storage to ExtSdCard for all downloads?

Hi
I'm sorry if someone already asked this (tried searching but didn't find the exact same question).
Is it possible to set a default storage location for all apps downliads/pictures? I know how to do it in camera and some apps have a setting option for this. But I've uninstalled many apps (wallpapers etc) simply because I'm too frustrated with transferring files manually.
For example, my instagram saves pictures to device memory and it really bothers me...
Thanks a lot!

Here's a link to the one I use. It applies on boot. Works great. Haven't had a single issue....

Thanks so much for the link. However, I'm not trying to move apps to sd card because I don't have that many apps. And I don't really want to root my device.
I want to set all app downloads to sd card. Some apps have a setting for that but some don't.
Thanks anyway!

You can use directory bind, but sorry still you needs root to use it.

Ultimate Backup app from Play store

Does anyone have any experience with this app? Its free with a pro version from the Play store like Titanium Backup, but I ran into a lot of problems with TiBu freezing. So anyway, I know if you format parts of your card the back up is lost and I know you can move the storage place, but it gives the option for free to store backups in DropBox. ( Something that is only in the paid TiBu.) The thing is I can find no way to restore from DropBox. All the apk's are there in the folder I created, but the app doesn't seem to be able to access it. Just wondering if anyone uses this app in this way or has had any better success with this over others.
Does it need you to download from dropbox before you can restore?
I dunno, just wondering. Hope you figure it out.
It just doesn't give any option to restore from drop box. I just thought it was a nice alternative and a free one that used drop box too. It also restores apps pretty quickly...more so than Titanium anyway. I guess the work around is to just change the save to the external sd for now.
I have it, works great. I got the pro version so i could backup up data too. Saves everything to ur memory card.

[Q] S Note Sync Loss Data

I did factory reset and setup everything from scratch again.
I just noticed that when I sync the S Note from Samsung Account, only some latest notes got sync, while the older are gone. Is there limit capacity for Samsung account S Note?
There isn't.
Welcome to the world of Samsung.

So, what is the best and more safe way to backup the snotes? Dropbox or something else? Did anyone use dropbox fro backing up snotes? It may backup one by one or all together? Any proposal for this matter?
I did restore few times before and successful. Just this one fail me.

Απ: [Q] S Note Sync Loss Data
Thanks for the tip. And when I need to restore I just copy back this folder to thw phone memory? Do you know if this method keeps except the files also the folders and general all my creations (drawings, memos etc)?
Yep everything created with s note is stored there. Just move that folder back and forth roms.

I don't trust S-Note at all, one time I opened it and it said syncing, it then proceeded to delete one of my notes. Samsung support said they will look into it but have'nt heard anything further. Now I back up my snote folder regularly just in case.

Sorry, my english are not perfect. What do you mean with "and forth roms"?
I mean if I wipe internal memory as well while flashing and then copy over my s note folder to a different rom then it works perfectly.

[Q] best way to back up personel

before i take the red pill and flash the wicked rom, what is the best method to save personal data phone #,contacts, calendar appointments, email passwords, alarms, etc.?
the wicked rom says not to backup system apps, does that include app data?
thanks
Titanium Backup. You can restore app settings, say alarm clock settings, Temple Run accomplishments, etc.
I just export my contacts to my sd card and import back on a new rom. You can also link your contacts to a Google account.
I run Wicked, never had any issues at all.

Don't forget to make a backup through recovery just incase something goes wrong. You'll have something to fall back on.

Like said, make sure you make a backup through your recovery as well! Something unexpected might happen an it will save you much time.

well all would have been well, but apparently titanium did not know that i was using an s3 and must have saved back up to internal.
all i could find was my old backups from my old phone.

Search your internal storage, it shouldn't of been deleted. Go through a file manager and if you can find it, go to titanium >preferences >and restore location.

yeah, you have to change backup location in titanium settings. In the S3, it uses your internal memory as an internal sdcard. That is where it saves all your personal junk by default. When you wipe though, it is possible to wipe without wiping that data, a factory reset should be enough. If you change in settings though, you would need to configure it to use your external sd card.
