My last ROM had it so the volume rocker could be used to power the phone on, and I downloaded a app to turn the screen off. I do this cause my power button on the DINC crapped out. But the ROM I'm on now doesn't have that feature (Anthem 3D). I just wanted to know is there a universal download for all ROMs so I can have the volume rocker my new screen on? Cause my optical pad takes a couple presses to turn the screen on too.

Hi,
I have a AT&T Tilt2 on which suddenly the volume rocker up button stop working as volume button and then brings me to the home screen from within any app!! I am unable to figure out why this would happen - its a stock AT&T ROM with some apps that I installed like - OperaBeta, HDWallS, Resco.
Even when I hold down the call drop button for sometime, the device does not lock! It vibrates but does nothing - just shows me the home screen.
Any idea on why this would happen ? has anyone seen this happen to their cell too ?
Thanks
Dhanvi
My volume buttons occasionally acts up too. They suddenly act as up and down keys rather than volume up and down keys. Very rarely though. A soft reset makes it go away each time.
...guess it was having an identity crisis...
I've been having problems with my volume buttons. And soft reseting doesn't solve the problem. The volume buttons work in the lock screen. But when i'm at the home screen they just open and close the volume screen.
I have a tilt 2 with the stock rom.
Hi all,
does anyone sometimes have to press the power button (when phone is completely turned off) twice (2 presses to turn on) sometimes?...
so just to confirm
- handset is off
- push power button once (sometimes doesnt come on
- push for second time (and powers up)
im defiantly pushing for long enough
iv have no issues with the button at all when in the UI or when locking/unlocking display
iv done a few tests where i have turned off. then went to switch on, with the same pressure and sometimes it starts with one, sometimes it starts with two presses,
do u think this is a fault? anyone experience this? normal?
just checking...
thanks heaps!
I had the opposite on my first one. When I pressed the power button to turn screen off, the screen went black for 1 sec and jumped back on lock screen.

I don't think many people would turn their phone completely off so haven't found the issue.
When you power off what will be happening is the phone is off as much as it can be, but these buttons are soft off, the battery is still connected and some power must be drawn to run the power circuitry to detect the button being pressed again to signal to power back up the phone, in the same way when you turn your TV off by the remote, power is still drawn to run the remote sensor on the TV.
To keep the drain on the battery as low as possible so the battery isn't completely discharged over months of storage I suspect the power chip waiting for the on signal again is only sampling every so often to save power so it can be in super deep sleep state. This means depending on where in this cycle you are when you press the power button it might seem like it isn't responding, so typically you have to leave it depressed long enough for it to be "seen".
The better option is to just to put your phone into flight mode if you don't want to be disturbed or want the phone off. I do this overnight and lose no battery power by the morning, so it is as good as off. You can add a button to your home screen to do this quickly, widgets are included already for that.

Phil
Mine does the same thing.. Sometimes it does it with waking up from sleep also.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
So I have my htc one x for a year now. Rooted and custom rom, all worked fine.
The keypresses of the power button will be simulated very fast with no actual pressure on the power button. So after some minutes off locking and waking my device I pressed volume down and power button. Now sometimes it simulates the volume down and power button.
So sometimes it shuts off the device.
So I opened the device and there appears to be nothing wrong with it. I turned my HOX on and quickly unplug the ribbon cable from the power button off. But the power button is still pressed really fast, like 2 times a second.
I can't even go into recovery to backup, restore or flash anything because it will press the power button really quick and after 10 seconds it turns itself off.
It happened before on Slimbean rom. But the problem went away after some days. Now i got MIUI and the problem is back. So I don't think it is rom related.
My solution:
Is there a way to disable hardware keys in the recovery? Then i can try to restore my official RUU nand..?
So, my phone's Power button and volume button doesn't work. Didn't really have an issue since it never ran out of charge and I could just tap to wake. My phone went out of charge last night. Now I am unable to figure out a way to switch it back on. I thought charging it would switch it back on..but nope..it just shows the battery meter. Is there a way to switch the phone on? I have also tried to teardown the phone and check the naked power and volume buttons..but none of them work. I might have to change the cable tomorrow. In any case, is there a way to switch the phone on without using volume and power buttons?
Hi,
My Pixel 6 Pro screen went black, but I can still hear and feel that the phone is working. I used the volume up + power button to reboot it and now I touch the phone and I feel it vibrate as it's registering the touches. I also see at the bottom of the screen some white stripes flashing. It seems that the screen is damaged and I need a replacement screen.
Now my issue is that I can't seem to turn it off. As the screen is black, the only way to shut it down would be with hardware keys. But up until now, I haven't been able to figure out a way to turn the phone off.
Does anyone know how I can turn of the phone?
To replace the screen, obviously I need to turn it off first...
Usually long pressing the power button, but it may be different. As long as it gets fixed within a month or so it you can let it discharge until it auto shuts down. If more than a year old replacing the battery when repaired is a good idea anyway...
I tried long pressing the power button with no luck.
I tried volume down + power button for 20 seconds, didn't work either.
I tried volume up + power button for 20 seconds, this I think reboots the phone.

Power button only might take 20 or so seconds.
Otherwise just like it sit until repaired.
Power button + vol up + vol down. Keep holding down once you feel the phone vibrate. Takes you to the bootloader screen
The battery died.. so that's good!
Thanks anyways
