I need to return it to Verizon since i have their replacement in hand already.
I am running Cyanogenmod 7x

I am very new to rooting, this was my first try. But now I need to unroot before i sent it back

Hi Guys,
I have to return my phone to sprint in exchange for a new one. Can someone point me in the right direction to get it back to stock? I have a rooted Evo with Damage 3.2
Any help would be appreciative. I've read a couple of threads on restoring, but it's really confusing. Any volunteers?

1) Install HTC sync
2) Run the RUU.exe (find link on forum or shipped roms)
Wrong section. But might as well answer. Just accept the over the air update from htc and your back to stock. Or use the search bar ,its quite a useful tool.

I've got my G2 rooted and running cyanogenmod. My phone needs to be returned for a hardware malfunction. Is it in my best interest to un-root the phone, switch back to s-on, and reinstall the stock tmobile ROM? Has anyone else had this sort of situation arise? Thanks for your replies in advance.

Here's the easy way.
Thanks for the replies. I'll probably end up going back to stock just to be safe.
Hi,
Sorry if this has been asked before but I plan on selling my EVO and want to unroot the phone before selling it. I just want to make sure that it is rootable for the new buyer if they decide to root the phone again.
Yes you can un root again.

yep they can follow the same method to re root.
You might want to leave it rooted... a rooted phone might get you a couple extra bucks...
Hi, I sold my EVO on eBay and I need a way to return it to stock software. Thank you!
Download and flash the ODEXED version of the stock rom from here. Remember to do a full wipe/Factory reset prior to flashing. NOTE: The EVO will still be rooted.
Can I unroot it?

Sure you can, but why? You are selling it, right? It will still work normally and if the buyer is into rooting, he or she will be grateful and if the person is not into rooting, the device will automatically be unrooted when he or she accepts an OTA update from Sprint.
UPDATE: follow the steps here to unroot.
In the meantime, I don't want a problem with an inaccurate item description, as they make take it into Sprint for something.
I understand and updated my previous post to include a link to help you unroot.
Thank you 10char
You're very welcome. Enjoy the rest of your day...
How do I eliminate or decrease the possibility that it can't be rooted after O di this?
I'm not sure I follow you. I mean there is nothing you can do to prevent the buyer from rooting if he or she wants to do so.

Ok please help let me know what you guys think...
In theory could this same thing work given the following situation. My phone is rooted but the power button recently shorted and stopped working. Sprint didnt flag my phone as rooted but said get it back to stock and we will exhange it. Do you think it could work if I flash the odex using Rom MANAGER which ive never used to flash but im useless flashing through recovery with no "power button" to use as enter. Once I flash the rom using rom manager it will be back on sense from there can I then unroot without using the power button though bootloader or even HTC Sync because at that point I think HTC sync will recognize it? I hope all that makes sense im just trying to get my phone replaced. :/ Thanks!
**UPDATE** Scratch that Rom Manager took me to clockwork
My usb port broke on my beloved evo (literally came off the board and took the traces with it), unrooted to take it to sprint, including turning s-off. Sprint wants to charge me a bunch of money to fix it, regardless of it being a known problem with the evo's. I decided to keep my evo for a little longer, I can't stand the 2.2 rom I rolled back to. I can get root on my evo I just need to turn s-off, but without a usb port, I don't have any connectivity.
Is there a way to turn s-off without debugging it via computer? Any help is encouraged and very much appreciated.
Thanks, and I am sorry if this is a repost.

I did a little researching on adb wireless, apparently it's for phones that have already been rooted.

Then you either need an SD reader or put your SD card in another phone and place the files you need on it that way.

If you're s-on and don't have a recovery, then you're probably screwed. You can unroot without a usb port, but I don't believe that you can root without one.
If you're still on 2.2 then you may have some luck depending on your hboot version. Search around for some of the older root methods. If they're compatible with your hboot then there may be something that you can do. Considering that z4root will give you temp root, there may be some way to get s-off from there.
If you have insurance on your phone then you may want to try another store - you may get someone that'll give you a refurb. If the port was just loose then you would be in good shape, but since it's broken off they usually won't replace it without charging the $100 deductible.

I have 2.2, and I am bootloader 2.10, I was thinking about doing z4root to get temp root, then trying and pushing the unrevoked3 package through via adbwirelesss. I have my whole phone setup on my sd card, I just desperately need to get s-off to be able to fully root. Are there any utilities to flash in hboot to give you s-off?
I have insurance on the phone, they didn't enter anything in the system about me breaking my phone, I am just probably going to tell them someone stole it and trade them the $100 for a refurb.

I have all of the files on my sd card already, unfortunately I can't flash them without a recovery, cant flash a recovery without s-off. The unrevoked3 is an .exe meant to be used by a computer via adb. They did have an .apk that they have since stopped supporting, it errors out when I try it that way.
Shameless self bump, my efforts have failed, and I have explored multiple avenues, but I have yet to solve it, any help is still much appreciated
