[Q] Overclocking on the Newest ICS builds? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hello guys...I was wondering if it was possible to overclock on Ics as of yet..Im running Calk's lastest v3 build and its running perfect as can be no issues at all...also Mijjz latest build run excellent for me too but anyway guys just wanted to know if Overclocking is possible yet on ics because I love performance lol....Thanks in advance for any help.

Set CPU and tegrak have screwed up systems causing lots of reboots

set cpu and tegrak work fine for me. But as for overclocking an ICS rom it is not possible yet. This is because your not overclocking the rom, your overclocking the kernel and there isnt enough development that i know of yet that allows us to overclock. However, im sure it will soon be here. I believe they are just working on making everything work and stable before the make everything blazing fast. But hang in there im sure steady Hawkin is working his ass off and going to get us something working soon for a clockable kernel.

You need a over clock kernel. There imply available on 2.1 roms right now
Haterz gonna hate. Just keep hatin. I brush them haterz off. It ain't my fault my epic's e-penis is bigger then the evo's e-penis.
Lol. Evo epenis needs viagra. Nerds over at ppcgeeks banned me for proving evo suxs steve jobs nutsak.

It's not possible to overclock with a DK-28 Modem, you have to be on 2.1 Eclair to overclock.
Can you explain to me how (and where) to find a kernel and install it. I know how to use Odin to get back to 2.1 and I can reroot it, no biggie. But I have no experience with installing new kernels. I'm kinda learning as I go... thanks for the help: )

Here's a OC kernel. Odin back to 2.1 (DI18), root and install the kernel in the provided thread.

This is the kernel I was using prior to 2.2 flash. Worked great! Very fast and stable.
You can also try SyndicateRom with the Xtreme kernel. I enjoyed that before the froyo leaks started.
Yeah those days feel so long ago,I wish we had source for 2.2.1 alreay... Anyway I found Phoenix kernel to be the best, alot less bugs. That with any DI18 ROM was awesome.

Regardless about how anyone around here feels about this gentleman, I would say for a 2.1 Rom your best bet would probably be Baked Snack (1.6). I won't post a link but all you have to do is google Baked Snack Epic4g and youll find it.
I went back and fourth to Froyo leaks a few different times as new ones were released, and I still always end up reverting back to this Rom, it just seems to be the snappiest 2.1 (or 2.2 for that matter) Rom available, It has a well working apps2sd, kernel options for best battery life, (IMHO) and you can overclock to either 1.2 or 1.3 ghz on it. Just my 2 cents. For me the only quasi-important feature I'm missing out on by not running Froyo is Flash, but TBH thats not that important to me. I'm never too far from a computer if I need it that bad.
is 2.1 with overclock kernel that much faster than 2.2.1 without overclock. I like my rooted 2.2.1. not really wanting to go backwards.
a slower chip running a newer OS or a faster chip running and older OS....ya 2.1 OC'ed will be fast.
I hate how everyone listed a different ROM, it's just so daunting now! It makes me afraid to switch from stock!
check this out, list of roms kernels etc/

Overclocking

I would like to overclock my Dinc, I'm currently running skyraider 4.0 and have the stock kernel running right now. I wouldn't mind upgrading to a new kernel.. but all the ones I see give you about a 100Mhz overclock. This would be fine.. however I'm wondering if I could overclock to a potentially more unstable speed for a minimal amount of time.. are there any kernels that allow this? Also, what kernel would you recommend?
Thanks,

No kenel that i've seen on the inc have surpassed the clock speed of 1.2 ghz so no.
Alright thanks.

Isc kernel

So im curious is there an overclockable kernel for ics that i can use with set cpu. All i see are stock kernels. Are we waiting for more development on kernels? On gb i could over clock to 1.7 which was awesome.

im taking a guess here, so someone correct me if im wrong, but i think everyone is waiting for the ics source to be released b4 they start makeing custom kernels.

Use the search function. It's already been posted that you can use Tegrak to overclock the stock kernel, even on ICS

Doesnt work with cm9,miui, and apperently aokp, since im on aokp and it says kernal not available. Custom kernels would be awesome right now
To begin with we don't have the source. It's not as simple as splitting the zImage and typing in some numbers. Also, there's very little demand for OC'd kernels on this phone. Most people that OC do it to increase performance, reduce lag, play games, and a few other things. Basically they do it for a reason. The ones that do it just because or so they can show it off to their friends are a very small group. Since the majority don't feel overclocking is necessary on this phone there won't be too many OC'd kernels even when we get the source.

ICS Kernel OC

Is it possible that we will see an ICS kernel built from source that has been tweaked to support overclocking as well as undervolting?
I realise that source has just came out for our phone but at the same time I find that ICS is rather laggier and has much more latency than when I used GB Juggernaut OC's to 1.73 ghz. Irreguardless of people that will hate on me for saying I experience latency with stock and custom ICS Roms, I am still just wondering if we will be able to OC again one day while on Android 4.0+.
Additionaly,
I know that TheDerekJay has a custom kernel called "Venom" but I do not believe it has OC capabilities.
Does anyone have information pertaining to this subject. All help will be appreciated and thanked

If your talking about his latest build with the Venom kernel, no OC built in yet.

But I think it has undervolting.
Give 'em time. Faux is working on one, but asks for patience. I'm sure MrX is too, but is probably concentrating on CM9, since he's part of that team.
Sent from my beastly Galaxy S 2.
I'm patiently waiting. Got rid of the lag by backing up stock rooted, eiping everything/factory reset/Darkside wipe...then restoring. Now stock is smooth as silk, and I use Nova Launcher Prime. If this helps at all.

Overclocking

How can I overclock i'm on CM10 and don't want to lose anything but get 1.8ghz cpu!

CM10 is currently beta so it is not possible until someone takes the kernel and then modifies it to OC. Besides, AOKP and CM9/10 will run faster than overclocked stock ICS. Overclocking IMHO isn't worth much other than bragging rights....best thing is to undervolt and keep smoothness but increase battery life.
Well the thing is on ICS stock I was getting upwards of 5000 now on cm10 I'm getting 4100-4300 (quadrant standard) also my wifi is way slower for some reason not sure to blame cm10 or something with my hardware
Just got 3894 something's wrong!

Ktoonez made a Jelly Bean kernel that supports overclocking and undervolting. I've been using it on TGFY's AOKP ROM and it's been great.

For some reason that kernel isn't playing nicely with CM10. I ran CM10 and KT's JB Rom and both were super fast. Quadrant and Bench scores aren't that reliable. Anything JellyBean is new territory so don't expect it to be as good speed and stability wise as ICS or CM9 yet. I bet in a couple weeks we'll all be over clocking jelly beaners flashing new updates daily!
If your willing to use cm9 faux123 has an excellent kernel for overclocking to 1.8.
The ktoonez kernel is rockin cm10 at 1.809Ghz for me!!
