[Q] S-Off Desire completely dead, safe to send back to reseller? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
While I was using my mobile it switched off and I couldnt open it again. I tried everything, battery pull and all kind of boots but nothing..
Even when i am connecting it with usb for charching the light doesnt turn on.
Did you heard any similar issue?
My phone is S-OFF but there is no way to connect to phone and restore it for warranty purpose... So if i send it to reseller and the phone is completely dead there is any possibility to find that is S-OFF? (I will try to format the SD Card.)

noones help? :S

You can't access safe boot and boot loader?

happened to me, it's dead. Call HTC and claim warranty.

no fastboot no recovery no blinking lights nothing. I will call HTC. I think that is a short circuit or something. It doesnt even blinking in charging mode. Do you think that is possible for HTC to check that the phone is S-OFF ?

they can see if it is S-OFF if they want.

So do you think that I should recover it back to S-On ? If yes is it possible? From what i read in Q/A Thread there is no way..

Don't be stupid, if the phone is dead, it's dead. My phone was S-OFF w/CM7 when this happened to me, and HTC sent me a replacement.

There IS no way.. if it doesn't turn on, don't worry about it and send it back. As I've said before I'm speaking from experience here...

Don't see how I'm being a ****, all I said was don't be stupid - since there's no way they could tell what software the phone is running if it's broken.

As long as it is not due to a bad flash and is faulty hardware, you should not have an issue

[Q] Desire Dead - Oxygen RC7 - Anything I can do?

2 Questions:
Can my phone be revived?
If no, is there anyway HTC will be able to tell that it has been rooted thus voiding my warranty?
Apologies if this has already come up and been answered but I did search the Q&A and dev forums first.
Background:
Today my Desire died. I am running Oxygen RC7 (have done for a couple of weeks now)
At the weekend I had trouble unlocking my phone. I pressed the button but the screen stayed black. This was resolved by removing and re-inserting the battery. However, today, when the same thing happened, the battery trick didn't work. Tried leaving the Desire batteryless for an hour or so but still no joy.
Connected the phone to my computer by USB and no activity (no light on phone, no recognition on PC).
I would really appreciate any suggestions.
Oh and while I remember, I cannot even get into boot mode by pressing the top button and volume down.
Sounds like phone is dead DEAD!

Thanks, I'll look into these options tonight. Any thoughts re warranty? Will HTC know it was rooted?
Have you tried leaving it plugged into the charger for at least 10 minutes to see if you get any life?
Have you tried with the battery off, and just the charger plugged in to see if the LED lights up?

No I haven't tried these yet. Will try when I get home. I did try with two batteries though (1 fully charged, 1 about 90% charged).
It didn't appear a problem on software anyway, it appears a issue on hardware (if it was a problem on software, your phone would at least boot HBOOT).
Answering your question, yeah, they will probably discover that you rooted your phone. Don't know if they will void your warranty for this, but probably yes. Anyway, you can try at least.

Yeah, guess I have no choice! I'll try looking at some of the options talked about in this post but looks like I'll just have to chance it with HTC. Wish me luck!
My phone was rooted and I had CM6.1.1 on it, my phone died like yours so I sent it off to HTC and they didn't realise it was rooted. If you think about it if the phone is completely dead and doesn't even turn on there is no way for them to find out. Simples

Can you boot into recovery? Hold down power and volume down whilst phone is off.
Does it go into recovery when you plug in a USB cable or charger? If you can you try plugging it into your computer, and if you have ADB installed, type
adb devices (your device should show up)
adb reboot

Phone will not turn on

I am not sure if I bricked my phone or not. I was trying to install CM9 on my phone it got before the install got going it got stuck. I pulled the battery and tried to turn the phone back and now it isnt doing anything at all. If i try to turn it on, the blue notification light comes on and stays on and thats all the phone will do. It will not let me get in DL mode or recovery. If i plug the phone up the blue light comes on and stays on too. If you guys have any input I would appreciate it.

To carry on Epix4G's comment, this is why there is a "How Not to Brick Your E4GT" thread stickied in General.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525495
I know readers of these forums have gone even as far as cross-posting on other sites like Android Central.
There's a reason why this info is here. If you're new to the E4GT - or Sammy devices in general - don't assume it's like your old device. Read up on the issues and be informed or end up with a $550 paperweight. It's sad to see another brick that could and should have been avoided.
Yep, you f*cked up. Too bad you didn't search before you messed with it, you'd still have a working phone.
yea sorry man your phone is gone just like windows BSOD, your phone got the BLOD

Desire GSM bricked

Phone got bricked. Only when removing battery and inserting, then plugging in charger ... The led lights orange. Or else, when turning on ..no screen, no vibration. Only the led turns of when in charger.
No fastboot. I have tried RUU, but its just searching for device. Then an error massage. Because it can't find the device.
All drivers are installed on computer.
Phone is rooted and s-off.
Any help will be much appreciated.

Well... you somehow burned your motherboard. No fix with adb for that.
Indeed... Had the same problem after a while with random reboots and stuff. Last 'solution' for me was to put the phone about 15 minutes in the freezer, after that I was able to flash the RUU. Next morning it was dead again.
The phone got a new motherboard, no problems anymore.

HTC One M8 bricked

My HTC One M8 got bricked while updating to android 4.4.4 (eye experience). According to futuretel, the warranty is only active for three months without a receipt. I tried locating a reliable phone repair shop in Toronto and its been a nightmare. HTC has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. The phone still contains my data. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.
please note: the power button is broken

Bricked how? Like, it won't turn on at all? I've seen a lot of people on this site say "hard bricked" when it is something that can be fixed with some guidance.

There's a lesson here, always keep your receipts. Also if it was broken already then you should have had it replaced. Unless you caused the damage then they won't replace it regardless because you could be the reason why it bricked

He has two posts, which doesn't really tell his experience with rooting and "bricks", but is usually a good indication. I have a feeling he can fix it with some help.
I could be wrong though. No answer on the "will your phone turn on?" yet.
EDIT: no power button. not bricked. hardware issue. should read the whole post instead of having another sip of beer.

No, the phone won't turn on. However, my computer picks up the device (connects then disconnects). I'm heading to a repair shop just now.

Learnt the hard way. The phone was working perfectly fine except for the power button. After the update, the phone was stuck in a boot loop between update symbol and low battery. I pulled out the sd card and now its just showing a flashing red light. I am going to get the power button fixed just now and get the technician to diagnose any other issues.
Did you happen to buy the device with a credit card? This almost always will suffice as a proof of purchase or receipt.
If your phone was in a loop when the battery died, its not bricked.
update
The phone shows up as QUALCOMM HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (com 3)

Its technically bricked but there are tools that you could use to fix it, but I doubt you want to take that much effort in fixing it.
So what was the point of this thread? You obviously don't want to fix it. So you just wanted to whine about it? Good luck on your next phone, don't brick that one too.
Pretty sure my m8 is bricked
Hey i sort of hi-jacked this thread , however it relates to my matter. I tried to convert my HTC into google play edition, I s -off, unlocked the boot loader and rooted it. Now for the fun part I went to flash a google m8 rom and BAM boot loaader came up with tampered and not only that the rom didn't work and now the htc boot screen (the white one) has a lock on the bottom and i can't do anything. I can access TWRP and have flashed other roms to it but it keeps denying them and going to the same htc boot screen with that lock symbol. Anyone please help I just got this phone and feel like I should never gotten myself mixed in this modding business lol . Thanks for anyone that can help me resolve this.

The only viable solution I came across is JTAG. Can you please share those tools? Phones shouldn't be bricking when updating on stock
