[Q] Notifications only vibrate when receiving a text and or email - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so I have done google searches and looked throughout the QandA threads for my topic and a possible answer and I haven't found anything that quite matches my issue. Here is my weird problem that I have. First off I don't use the stock messaging application. I normally use Go SMS mainly out of personal preference and I just don't like the other ones. I have experienced this intermittently on all of the EL30 roms Sleeper, Clean GB and even Marcusants new V4. When I freshly install any one of these roms if I set my phone to play the notification and vibrate it will play the notification and vibrate as well. In about maybe a day or so or I have seen even two days all of a sudden out of nowhere my phone will stop playing notifications it will only vibrate. I know I'm not tripping because my phone setting are always set to Vibrate and Sound. This doesn't happen on CM9 and I haven't encountered it yet just on the EL30 Gingerbread roms. I know some of you will say just switch to CM9 well I would and I may I go back to that rom. I do switch back to it from time to time bc I just love the features and functionality battery life just isn't where I thought it would be for me. If anyone has any suggestions or help I would appreciate it thanks.

Is the notification you are trying to play on your sd card? If so there may be a delay trying to access the card so it times out and does not play the tone. Try one built into the phone like anticipation short.

It doesn't matter if it's on the sd card or internally. I had Go SMS installed to my sd card. So last night I moved it to the internal storage. Maybe that will make a difference.

I noticed on my GF's phone with contacts with assigned ringtones from the sd card that at least a third of the time her default ringtone goes off instead of the assigned one. I attributed that to sluggish sd card interaction. Maybe it is similiar for you. I reformatted her card once and it was better for awhile, then started again recently.

Hmmmm that is something I will try Kenny. So far so good the notifications have been playing normally. We shall see though usually within a day it happens lol.

So far so good Kenny my notifications have been coming through flawlessly. I guess installing Go SMS pro on my internal memory made a difference. That might be the culprit.

Awesome. Maybe there is a reason why some newer phones don't have sd cards and have memory built in. The interface causes issues sometimes.

Yeah that is very interesting, I hated flashing different roms and themes and such lol and going back to different ones. I am very satisfied now, I finally have my phone at full setup to how I like it and I am getting very nice battery life from Clean GB. I got 19 hours with four hours of screen time over the past day all on a stock battery. I was never getting near that on CM9.

Tmo TP 2 is slowing d..o..w..n...

Over the last week or so my tp2 has been slowing down. Operations that had been snappy when I first bought it are becoming lethargic. I had installed 3 new programs in that time, and have since uninstalled all of them(trying to resolve this). But the problem is still there.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Have you shut it down or done a soft restart in that time?
Hi Yodajm,
Yeah, I have. Several....
Unfortunately I can't offer much more advice on the TP2 since AT&T hasn't got off their butts to release it yet.
Thanks anyway.
How is the weather in LA? Would love to be on the west coast!
Later
Have you cleared the cache and ram in that time?
Way too hot right now haha. Plus smokey cause of the fires.
I hate the summer heat, but otherwise the the weather is great!
Slowing down? My is fast like lightning, maybe cuz im using non stock rom
Even though you uninstalled the programs, whatever changes they made may still be in effect. You might have to consider a hard reset, and then test by adding each program one at a time and checking if you notice any slowdown. If you don't, then you know that program is not the culprit. If you do, then you've found your cause. Good luck!
Hey Yodajm.. yeah those fires sound fierce! Hope you and your family are well clear of them!
Thanks for the replies.
I thought I should reference this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=555504
I then posted this there:
Come to think of it.... I may be having the same problem.
About a week ago I installed 3 new pieces of software. After a few days I noticed that my phone has been feeling laggy. So 1 by1 I unistalled the software... still the problem persists.
Reading your post made me think... hmm about a week ago I also installed a 4 gb memory card! The card works fine, I can access it, and store stuff on it.
Also, come to think of it. I was making panoramic photos last night and my phone kept freezing after the 2nd photos. And would crash- resetting itself. I had the phone set to save images to the card. Setting it to save them to the phone it stopped crashing... maybe my memory card is too slow. Perhaps, there is a setting in the phone which affects the through put from the phone to the card that can be tweaked. I seam to remember see settings for power saving features for the micro sd card.. Could this be the culprit?
So what does everyone think? I am taking out the card and soft resetting the phone to see what happens.
As for changes made to the system, one of the programs was the Advanced Configuration Tool. So yes, some changes were made. But I thought I returned everything to what I had. I only made a couple of tweaks with it...

70-80% of Incoming Calls Freeze Phone

I'm running stock ROM on VZW... Almost every call I get causes the phone to freeze, sending the call to voicemail. It is so frustrating that I can do everything with my phone, except receive calls! I have slide to unlock, and thought the slide to answer was causing the problem... so I disabled it. Still having problems. Any suggestions?

Back it up and hard reset, see if that fixes it.. If so, you have some bad software.
I had the same problem with my Tilt2. I have tried six different roms. The same problem. I download a program called Gaz TD2 Tools. I used that to disable the default dialer. Since then I don't have that problem. I have a ugly phone pad but I can answer a call. seventeen missed calls in one day was enough.
Storage Card Issue Perhaps
Assuming a Hard Reset doesn't fix this, I have another suggestion. Back everything up as previously suggested. If you have a Storage Card in the phone, pull it out and re-boot. If you've installe dprograms to the card you'll get some error messages - don't worry, they will disappear if the card is good and you decie to put it back in again.
I've had several cards become subtly corrupted over the years of using WinMo Phones. They can often cause this kind of maddening problems with no apparent solution.
If the card is bad, try to copy off all the files onto your computer. Then re-format it. Do this in the phone if it can (don't know about the Rhodium on this) or on your computer using an adapter. Then put back the data files and CAB files for the software you want to install again. Put it back in your phone and boot. If everythig's now ok, go ahead an dinstall the CABs.
If the Card is still wonky after re-formatiing, try going to the Manufacturer's website for help. I had a 16 Mb Sandisk microSD fail in my Fuze and after a couple of emails suggesting I thry to diagnose the card using varioous utilities, Sandisk concluded it was faulty, sent me a new one and a pre-paid return mailer. No problems after that. You can't beat that kind of service.
Best of Luck!

I had similar problem like yours. I've just taken sdcard out and now it seems phone is not freezing. Sdcard was previously used in Nokia phone for a while. Suppose it's not new type, that's why phone was freezing, i presume. Hope i will not have such problem again, because it ****ing irritating...
sounds familiar

I have also had this problem when I swap cards from one phone to another. even contemporanious phones from the same manufacturer. It's o tempting to do it, but I've come to think it's better to copy everything off of the card, reformat it, then load things back up. might just be coincidence, but it does seem to produce less problems.
Nice to know I'm not the only one
Cheers!

Now it resetted itself again when the battery level was %94. There is no sdcard inside. Let's see what's gonna happen... ****!
Installed this update yesterday from HTC. Phone seems to be working better, even with S2U2 options enabled... I'll report back with any lock-ups if they happen.

[Q] Media Scanner

Hey Y'all,
I have an issue the the Media Scanner. It doesn't stop scannig. It runs continuely.
Please see my signature below for info on ROM etc.
I haven't added any new apps, I've tried other SD cards and nothing seems to stop the constent scanning. While that scanning is going on, I have no sounds for anything that is on my external SD.
Sure need some ideas. I even rerooted the phone after 1st returning to full stock.
This is driving me nutz.
Thanks
Rich
Did you da full wipe try a new rom then flash back to blazer? And btw blazer 4.1 coming today.....
Oh do you have any apps for boosting sd reading time? When did this start?
I have tried a few other ROMS and did full wipes before each, same thing, media scanner doesn't stop running.
I have returned to full stock again and the media scanner is still running.
I may have to visit Sprint tomorrow. Only notifications I am getting now is vibrate and phone ringer for incoming calls.
thanks
R
Nope, nothing to increase r/w speed, just running a 32gig/class 10 SD.
Did full wipe with Caulkins Format ALL, wiped cache, Dalvik and reflashed Blazer. Flashed it, not restored for nandroid.
Still the same thing, media scanner still running.
Back to stock now, same thing. Driving me nutz. This happened once before but it stopped running after a few short minutes. Not this time, continuous.
thanks
R
PS, yeah I know New Blazer is coming.
Yea I had a feeling right off the back sprint store best bet =/
I had this scanning issue right before I started getting a 'Running out of room' error. See this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23167324#post23167324 This cleared the constant scanning and freed up space to boot on my internal SD card!
I would suggest that you (if possible) try a different sd card, just for S&Gs before going to the Sprint offices. Sounds suspiciously like a possibly corrupt card (or even files on it)?
EDIT: wooops, just saw that sentence where you tried that.
Disregard.

Thanks, I tried 3 different good SD Cards, Reformated one of them and left it void of any files or data and media scanner reacted the same.
Anyway,
after the media scanner ran for what seemed like hours, it finally stopped. I rebooted, it ran again and shut off almost at once. This mornings boot did the same so I think it just had a brain fart. All is good now and thanks for the help.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus freezing

Hi,
I recently bought a Galaxy Nexus and rooted it right then and there. A couple of weeks later it went into the bootloop (disease) and I had to restore my phone from scratch (loosing all my SD card stuff as well ). So I decided to go with AOKP M4.
Again a couple of weeks later AOKP just freezes while I was trying to access Maps. No buttons work and the screen stays ON. Had to pull out the battery to bring the phone back to life.
This time I said, let's go for ARHD 3.0... all works fine and I flash to ARHD 4.0 with complete superwipe. Then last night it freezes again when I was trying to access GTalk. Same thing, had to pull the battery out to bring it back to life.
Now I'm wondering if there's a problem with the GAPPS on the GNex? Or there's something else brewing in the background while I carry on my daily tasks. The phone is great, but this freezing is making me go crazy.
If you guys have had similar issues before, and have found any solutions to those, I'd appreciate your help in that.
Thanks.
could be one of your apps
I had a few lockups on stock 4.0.1 when I first got my phone, but after it updated to 4.0.4, and my subsequent move to custom ROMs I haven't had any issues with my phone freezing.

This. Were there any shared circumstances between your lockups? I noticed that my phone lockups on 4.0.1 all occurred under the following circumstances: I was listening to music and writing a text message when a new message was received. Every time.
I definitely haven't had any freezes like that so far for the life of my 3 months. It certainly sounds like something unique with your setup is following you around. An app most likely.
Hmmm ... thanks for your help. I have seen the phone freeze twice in two days. Battery pull restores it every time however.
I don't have anything installed which plays around with my settings (ex: setcpu etc.) Except Tasker!
I can try disabling the app for a week to root cause it!
Thanks.

[Q] Rogers Galaxy S3 4.3 issues

I am curious if my hardware is the issue or if it's the 4.3 update and Samsung screwed up yet again.
I have several issues I have noticed on stock, unrooted S3 (I747M) only since 4.3 was released.
1) random (but rare) it will popup an error saying the carrier cannot set the date and time (or something to that effect) and disables the "Automatic Date & Time" option in settings;
2) Occassionally I get an error popup saying "Unfortuntely, the process com.google.process.location has stopped.";
(BOTH those 2 issues showed up from clean install with no other apps installed)
3) my phone reboots once when I reboot or turn it on but this ONLY seems to happen when an SD card is inserted. I use a Sandisk 64GB class 10 as my main but I also have a 32GB Sandisk in my tablet I tried and a PNY 32GB in my gf's camera and no matter what card it always does this but if I remove the card I have no issues. At first I started uninstalling apps 2 at a time to see if it was an app but then I tried removing the SD card and when it's removed I have no issues.
(error 3 has only started since 4.3 and it seems to happen within 2-3 days a clean install. I updated my phone on the 26th when the update went live and noticed it on the 28th so come the 29th I decided to do another factory reset and try again so by yesterday (Dec.1) it was doing this again. It also does this if I boot into safe mode with the SD card inserted, and if it's not inserted then safe mode is fine as well).
So, my main concern now is whether this is the firmware causing these issues and typical Samsung screwed up or if it's my phones hardware? These are just on top of the very laggy experience I get with TW, message notifications on the lockscreen are ridiculous it was better on 4.1.2 and older just showing a number of how many notifications because this widget is ugly as hell now showing in big my text message(s). i like to have the preview option on for when I am using the phone and a message comes through I read it in the notification bar sometimes, just to name a few annoyances outside of the bugs I am curious of.
I noticed I cannot revert back to 4.1.2 either and it seems no matter what rom I would try my battery life was great at first then within 2 weeks went to crap with almost no apps installed because I was trying to troubleshoot the battery life a while back. Just to note, it's not the battery because I am getting better battery life right now on stock 4.3 than I was on any rom lol.
I'm having all the same issues with mine....It's not your phone. I have a thread on here asking the best of the best how to change back or go custom

Ah ok, thanks for the reply and glad to know it's not my phones hardware coincidentally dying on me at the same time 4.3 was released lol. I didn't think it was but the thought was still there you know.
I wish Samsung would get their acts together though. The delays to get the updates to North America are ridiculous and then on top of that they are buggy as hell. Never again am I buying Samsung products after owning my S3 and a Note 10.1 (2012) and seeing how bad they are for supporting older devices and getting working updates released to customers.
Well i have rogers s3 too and I dont have any of those issues. No lag no glitches nothing. But I do agree with you about lockscreen widget for messages. Its ugly as ****
I think if you root your phone and uninstall all the bloatware it'll be a lot faster. Thats what worked for me.

I was going to root and I did the first time but I wasn't sure if the root and cuz of Knox being a piece of crap caused those issues so I went to stock unrooted completely clean so I could troubleshoot and of course that didn't help so ya if I am going to be stuck with this crap I will at least root again and get rid of all that bloatware.
