Hello. I have a sgs2 e4gt and I'm running the Zedomax kernel, rooted of course. I'm interested in upgrading to 2.3.6, and know I can't do OTA updates. Any suggestions?

Wow! Some people are still using the Zedomax kernel?
Anyhoo, go here and follow the instructions. Choose the NoData version to keep your data.

He's right. Hitman has too many issues when trying to use with other roms. For example blazer. Gunslinger is good. I just use the stock kernel with blazer..
Where can I find the blazer kernel? Also, what about the LoStKernel? Is that a good one? I've found that sometimes I randomly lose service and have to either kill the dialer app or reboot. Sometimes both.

You don't have to flash a whole rom to get these. just download it in the dev section and flash it. I haven't heard much about the LOStkernel. I'd use a team rogue kernel for sure.

To be safe and avoid bricking your device, your best bet would be the One-Click Odin I linked. It's very easy and fairly quick.

Well I suppose it would be the usual format/wipe then flash. If you have the flashable ZIP Calkulin has made, which wipes everything needed, then you could just flash that right before the GB. It might be safer then manually wiping, but doesn't mean bricking is avoided completely.
You've been warned though, it is not recommended.

Haven't tried that ROM, but maybe if you let the battery drain completely, then wipe battery stats and fully charge it, you'll get good battery life. Possibly try it a couple/few times.

Odin is really not that tough.
I used Rom Manager a lot back in the EVO days, but it is not a good idea on these Sammy phones. The one time I tried a RM flash from ICS to GB I had my phone soft bricked and had to use Odin to fix. Wish I had just done Odin to begin with.
Folks not using Odin will be posting on How I bricked my phone thread, before not too long.

As SFHub himself has noted, among others, doing anything that involves a data wipe based on CWM and ICS kernel - in particular CM9 alphas - you greatly increase the risk of bricking your phone. ODIN and Mobile ODIN, while certainly still having its own risks, is generally viewed as the recommended solution when performing an operation that would include a data wipe, such as nandroid backup/restore.
Again, this has been documented ad nauseum in a stickied thread just for this reason:

Mobile ODIN will let you flash the kernel but not the modem. In this case it should do what you want.
*Edit: Clarification* You'll want to read the EL26/29 ODIN TAR package notes to see how to extract the kernel for Mobile ODIN use. Another great reference for Mobile ODIN is Epix4G when around.
Hellcat's boot-logo changer
Now officially patched for our gaudi_bootimage.jpg!
Two step process after installing hellcats app:
Flash an Agat REPACK kernel. This only works from a Sammy kernel so a repack is necessary.
Then its as simple as cropping a pic!
If I recall cm offers some kind of dual boot into TW option for things like getting a GPS lock or updating prl, I imagine that would work with this as well.
Enjoy =)
HellCats Sgs2BootLogoChanger
Link to AGAT SAFE REPACK which probably the best option available for this.
Says that the kernel I'm using is missing the required file system drivers required to flash the image. I'm running AOKP so that may be why. Once we get a source built kernel then it will probably work. Anyone else running AOKP able to get it to work.

Do have the yellow triangle?
It wont work right if you have a yellow triangle. Ive successfully used it on AOKP back around build 30 and have since used it on CM9 with caymon-islands (sp?) kernel..
I have gotten that mesage before though, i cant why...
Oh well, im any case if yoy decide you want a boot logo just revert to stock. Im pretty sure the only thing that kills one is a full restore.

Thanks for the heads up, it should work on every build as long as long as your build.prop reflects that your on an s2 and apparently there is a kernel restriction of some kind.
I noticed a message in the app saying that if you get "insertrandom_bootimage.jpg failed to draw, you ran into rare problem. Contact me to get it patched in the market"

And with it you can backup current boot.img as zimage, rename it for a moment, flash a samsung zimage, install boot image, reflash the dumped zimage... all without rebooting. I'll post a pack with all needed.
Included is tool, boot logo changer, an agat zimage, and a boot.img just in case you forget to dump current.. I forgot to rename agats kernel so don't dump current until you rename it.

I was curious because he specifically said to make sure to have a safe kernel and then links to the page so i assumed he intended for Chris41g's kernel to be what he had in mind for flashing his ROM, so your basically saying, i'm good to go without installing a kernel for good measure ?

I'm pretty sure the radio won't work as TMO uses 1700/2100MHz and Telus uses 850/1900MHz (like ATT). I have an ATT i957 that I unlocked but initially did not work on TMO with 3G or better. I did get it working with nrvate's CM10 build and a t989 Radio. I get full HSPA+ on TMO. Runs stable for me but there are a few bugs as the CM10 build is still beta. As there was never a honeycomb release for the t989 there are no radios for 3.2.

T-Mobile Radio does work perfectly also with 4.0.4... Using it since yesterday on this rom (dannorom 2.0)... Also worked with stock at&t rooted 3.2 rom... When you flash this rom radio is not flashed... I am still with the tmobile radio that was running in stock at&t 3.2... Just flashed this rom over without any sort of wipe and it just upgraded the os to 4.0.4 and everything was kept... All programs and settings...

Basically you just put the zip file from the rom into the TWRP folder and restore the image via TWRP...

For those of you who would like to run stock kernels with the builds
here is repacked FI27 kernel with my recovery and some init.rc edits.
SD card read speed.
Custom boot animation support
init.d support
Links:
AGAT_FI27_repack.tar flash with ODIN or Mobile ODIN
AGAT_FI27_repack.zip flash in recovery.
Did some edits in initramfs and run some tests.
Moved couple of apps to sd. After 5 reboots apps still working.
Tried to connect to pc in recovery.
ADB shell - works
Mount USB storage - works.
Hopefully it will work for all of you as well.
Links:
AGAT_FI27_repack.tar

Enjoy the kernel.

Agat you're a great dev and although I personally don't know you I know you're also a great guy by the work. Dedication. Passion. And how humble you are. I'm personally not running your ROM or kernel now but I'm sure its great based on past experience.
Can't wait to see what else you get into and develop *cough* jb kernels custom ROMs tweaks and beyond *
Cheers brother

Thus far I made a JB repack kernel with my recovery and it's working.
I made it on Garwynn's request and he has it for further testing.
I guess when JB is officially out and we have the source I can make kernel for it as well.
Why not?
agat, flashing your stock repack FI27 kernel fixed my 4G download problem that I was experiencing earlier. :good: Thanks again for releasing this~!!
On my previous try with the Tersus install, I was running Tersus, source-based FI27, EL29 modem and gettiing ~1Mbps download and 1.4Mbps upload.
With the only change being the stock repack FI27 kernel and keeping the EL29 modem, I now get these speeds.

These speeds are even better than my speeds with the GB Calkulin v3.0 ROM + EL29.
All is well and running very smoothly.
There is, however, one problem. Whenever I try to install the XDA forum app, I get the following error message:xda app couldn't install on usb storage or sd card.
Do you have any tips on how to fix this?

It has been talked about and discussed in few threads.
I never had that problem with app installation and never was able to recreate it.
There are few tips and workarounds like unmount sd card and than install or pull the sd card from the phone and try to install app.
However I can't tell you with certainty which approach will work for you.
Sorry.

Try rebooting then installing it or restore a backup.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I had tried rebooting but it didn't work. However, the xda app finally installed after I shut off the phone, pulled out the SD card, rebooted, then tried installing it. Thank you agat~!
Weird thing now, however, is that when I tap on a post to bring up the pop-up menu, like to give thanks, the screen goes blank & the app force closes. But at least I can read the forum and post by using a different method.
EDIT: Couldn't edit this post from the xda app--had to do it via laptop b/c of the force close issue.

I had the same problem with the mysterious disappearing XDA; it also would not reinstall from Market, but I was able to quite easily restore a previous Titanium backup.

I tried your method too & it also worked. With my sd card still unmounted, I dont have the force close issue anymore when i tap on someone's post.
Edit: I just remounted the sd card, opened up xda, tapped on my post, and now the popup menu appears like it used too~! Yay~ Thanks for the tip!

Repacks are usually just stock kernels with custom recovery.
Agats rebuilt kernels are tweaked and have more governors etc..
