[Q] Fastboot - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had to reload my computer, on completion I downloaded fastboot and tried to flash dooms ics kernel, I put in the command 'fastboot flash boot boot.img' after pressing menu and inserting usb cable blue light on, press return I just get 'waiting for device' I have been using fastboot for months, also I loaded SE Updates Services to get drivers installed, I'm sure there is something silly I've forgot to load. Any help would be appreciated. I'm not sure if I have to install Java for this, and if I do which version.
Edit: If you have this problem, you like me forgot to load the fastboot drivers with device manager.

[Q] Can't access fastboot and flash my radio - [SOLVED]

I have a really strange problem here. I've flashed my radio in the past using fastboot. My config hasn't changed.
When I go into the android sdk and run adb devices. I get one device.
When I go to run any fastboot command it hangs at 'waiting for device'
When I put fastboot devices, nothing comes up.
I'd appreciate any help
Hi DarkShadowAy
You plug in the device and go to fastboot?
If yes, then try going into fastboot FIRST. Then only plug in your cable. You will see Fastboot change to Fastboot USB.
From there, flash your desired radio version.
Hi superstick,
I typed in:
PHP:
fastboot flash radio radio.img
Got the prompt 'waiting for device' and I then plugged in the USB. Nothing changed unfortunately.
Just to make sure, did you boot into the bootloader and does it show "FASTBOOT USB"?
Yes that error mostly means that you haven't selected the fastboot option in the bootloader. You have to select the fastboot option before flashing.

I'll take the noob award of 2011 please.
I was baffled as I was in fastboot. When you posted that I thought why doesn't it say USB? It doesn't say USB because the cable wasn't plugged in
My desk's quite messy and I didn't realise the ipod data cable was in.
Thanks

Mac OS X Fastboot Mode <Waiting for Device>

Hi, I am trying to Re-Lock my Galaxy Nexus GSM version, I've downloaded the SDK files (adb-mac and fastboot-mac) and all the image files and I am trying to execute the following commands:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-toro-primekk15.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash radio radio-toro-i515.ek02.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash radio-cdma radio-cdma-toro-i515.ek05.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot -w update image-mysid-icl53f.zip
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot oem lock
With the phone in normal mode I connect the USB cable to the computer, start Terminal windows and run the first command, "./adb-mac reboot bootloader" and the phone will boot into the "Fastboot Mode", then I try to execute "./fastboot-mac devices" to make sure the phone is connected and properly detected and I get nothing.
If I try to execute "./fastboot-mac flash bootloader bootloader-toro-primekk15.img" I get the message <waiting for device> and it will stay there forever.
Do you know what might be the problem ?, is there other method to do this ?, go back to Stock ROM and Re-Lock the device ?, thanks
i use windows but i also get problems when i didnt had a break after the flash parts/ update parts

I know nothing about using Macs but have you installed the device drivers? As you are getting no serial number returned when using fastboot devices im guessing not.
Mark.
On a side note please do not post questions in the Development Forums as that is not the place for them.
Thanks.
The device is being detected while running in normal mode, meaning I do have the drivers, the problem is when I go into FASTBOOT MODE, I can no longer see the phone

But for the simple command ./fastboot-mac devices should work and it's not
in bootloader mode u need other drivers
but dont know how to install them on mac
First thing, make sure your fastboot file is executable
from the folder containing fastboot-mac:
chmod a+x fastboot-mac
You do not need further drivers on a mac. Just make sure you are using the correct fast boot and have all of the images in the same folder. Try using a different USB port. I renamed my fastboot file to fastboot and copied it into usr/local/bin folder so it can be accessed without the ./ ...Hope this helps...I actually just got done restoring mine because its gotta go back to the store because the internal storage is all sorts of jacked up...Since you clearly have a mac, have you had any issues using android file transfer?

I just checked and Fastboot is executable, as a matter of fact it's running, the problem is that the phone cannot be seen from the FASTBOOT mode, and I can see from the phone screen that IT IS in Fastboot Mode, it says in RED letters "FASTBOOT MODE"

Well reboot your phone. Once up, try and boot into boot loader the manual way by powering off the device, holding both vol + and -, and press power... then try your fastboot commands. Are you rooted or no?

I've done that, going into FASTBOOT MODE manually and the same result. Yes I am rooted.
I just want to go back to stock and re-lock the phone, is there other way to accomplish that ?
NOTE: I've tried Mac and PC (Galaxy Nexus Root Toolkit 1.3), different USB cables, different USB ports, reinstalled all the drivers on the Windows computer, NOTHING, the phone it's not being detected in FASTBOOT MODE.
Is it possible to go back to stock and re-lock from the Recovery Mode ?, I have ClockWorkMode 5.5.0.2 installed and working fine.
You can flash a Stock Rom via cwm but you can only relock the phone via fastboot mode.
Has this problem only surfaced recently?
You say that you are rooted and have cwm flashed so how did you do that?
Do you have another usb cable that you can try?
Mark.

I used FASTBOOT to unlock and Root, no problem at all, use the phone for 10 days and them decided to go back to Stock and Re-Lock. If I connect the phone in normal operating mode to the computer it will be recognized and I can see the phone from the computer connected via USB, so the cabe, port on the phone and port on the computer are OK. I've tried different computer (Mac and PC), different OS (Mac OS X and Windows 7), different USB cable, different USB port.
Just make sure USB debugging is on...try getting on a PC and running the ODIN file from someone was kind enough to post us...to get into odin mode, just hold up while the phone is off and hit power. You need the drivers installed and the latest version of ODIN on your desktop as well.

Plug your phone in and then turn it off...download the odin file from xda...not sure who posted it...it will be a 7z file...inside there are two separate .tar files. Extract these from the .7z file but do not fully unzip them. Place the one without LTE in the name in PDA and the one with LTE in phone, turn your phone on while holding vol -... there is a box that turns yellow in odin once your phone is connected. then check your screen against the one posted where you get the odin full restore file from and verify it matches, then flash it...

[Q] TWRP flash failed but firefirefire installed, now I can't get to fastboot mode

I've been trying to root my Kindle Fire running 6.3.3. I bought a fastboot cable and got it to boot into fastboot mode to flash TWRP and firefirefire. I ran the commands and TWRP failed but firefirefire installed. Now when the kindle boots I get the firefirefire bootloader but it cant boot into the recovery because the TWRP never installed. Also, I can't get it to fastboot anymore, not even with the cable. Can anyone please help me get TWRP installed? I've read many forums and tried about everything I found.

FFF bootloader supports fastboot commands, but the flash command is now
fastboot flash recovery file name
ie drop the -i 0x1949
Code:
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-otter.img
because the fastboot mode window is short
with kindle connected to pc, power off kindle, enter commands, then power on kindle

I've been trying this for about 30 minutes or so with no luck...I even downloaded a different version of the twrp image. Do I have to wait for the fastboot screen to start the command or do I start the process before powering on the device? I'm not really sure what I'm doing wrong here.

Should be able to do it either way but I press enter, before the power button
This will not work if drivers are not correct
could try
Code:
fastboot devices
as a test should get something like
Code:
123456789 bootloader
back in command prompt
I finally got it to work and I can't thank you enough. You were right. I knew my computer recognized the device with adb in normal boot but my computer wouldn't recognize the device in fastboot mode until i reinstalled the android driver while it was in fastboot mode. Now I have a custom ROM running Google Play apps! Again, thank you!
Hey, I don't know if this will help others, but I had a hell of a time trying to get my kindle to recognize while in the bootloader/fastboot mode... It frustrated me so much that I had to write about it.
I recently switched to Windows 10, so it seems like my computer is relearning drivers and stuff...
My kindle was fine when on, and I could issue adb commands from the main screen, but when in fastboot mode, I couldn't get it detected. I knew the drivers were an issue, but I couldn't figure out how to do it. I looked at Amazon's support pages, went through the SDK route, tinkered with the adb.ini and so forth... to no avail.
Post after post said that the easiest way to install the drivers was through the Kindle Fire Utility, but for some reason, the drivers in the .bat file kept failing and would not load. It took a good few hours to figure out the solution.
When I asked the Web why the drivers kept failing, I came across a post that said Windows was actually blocking unknown drivers from loading onto my system. I really wish Windows had told me that instead of just saying "Fail"...
I had to hold down the shift button and click restart on the start menu, and when the computer restarted, I when through: troubleshoot -> advanced options -> startup settings and clicked on Restart. It eventually gave me the option to disable that signature verification [F7]
My explanation is crude, because I want you to look it up properly. Just search for "disable driver signature enforcement" and you should be fine.
Hope this helps others out. I may have to revisit my own post just to see how to do this again.

Tied everything to root swift, cant get past initial fastboot stage

hi all, sorry if this has beeen posted before but its bugging me as i spent literally 4-5 hours lastnight trying to sort it, i havee rooted 4-5 android phones in the past but im just having no luck with this one
i installed adb / fastboot minimal, enabled what needed to be enabled in developer options on the swift, booted the swift into fastboot mode, then when i run adb on my computer, the first command works 'fastboot oem unlock' but after that its constantly saying 'waiting for devices' whenever i try the next phase of commands ie. fastboot -i 0x2970 oem unlock-go etc it just wont detect the device at all in windows on adb, is there any suggestions anyone could throw out there before i end up sending it back and getting an alternative android phone thats easier to root? the only thing i can think off is its a usb driver issue? but i installed the gloogle usb drivers and it picks up the phone for file transfer etc so im not sure if this is the issue. many thanks!

Hi,
I had the same issue. When that happens, do commands without the -i 0x2970 bit. So for example:
fastboot -i 0x2970 erase recovery
becomes:
fastboot erase recovery
Hope this helps

I tried this but it still says 'waiting for any device' My initial command worked for fastboot oem unlock, but then I just couldnt do the following commands, and as a result whenever i tried to install a custom recovery / rom it gave me the error along the lines of 'unable to verify....'
edit: when i missed out the -i part, then said its already unlocked. however i still am not able to install supersu or the recovery as it still gives me the error 'signature verification failed'

Hi,
OK, what recovery are you trying to install? I would recommend TWRP 3.0.2 by Beroid (in the development section) because it's easy to use and it works. Get the image and put it in your adb folder is. Make sure you are in fastboot. Then run commands
- fastboot erase recovery
- fastboot flash recovery (name of file).img
Disconnect the device from your computer. Then remove the battery. Then replace the battery and press VOLUME DOWN and POWER to rebbot in to recovery mode to verify the installation.
You should now be in the recovery. You can flash custom roms and supersu within this new recovery.
Hope this helps

problem with fastboot twrp flashing

my device came with unlocked bootloader, so I tried to flash twrp but every time i type "fastboot flash recovery C:\adb\twrp-3.2.1-3-whyred.img" and hit enter, the device seems to disconnect from pc and there is "press any key to reboot" in fastboot on my phone.
How can I solve this issue?`
Phone gets detected by adb/fastboot tool so its not a driver problem. I tried different cables and usb ports aswell.
Firmware is latest global stable.

Well if you already had adb in your pc, rename the twrp file to recovery, you don't have to move the twrp from download folder, open download folder press shift and right click then select open cmd here, on cmd type "adb device" to see if your device connected, then after that type this "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" press enter than after that type "fastboot boot recovery.img" TEAMWIN logo should appear on your device and then you can unplug your device. Hope this useful
i am trying to flash twrp there is no folder called adb i have installed the 15 second adb and all so i have got this minimal adb flashboot and i tried with that and got this ---- FAILED (remote: Flashing is not allowed in Lock State). i have granted all usb and oem unlocking. please help with this
Phone shows unlocked during the boot?
I had the same Problem, after a Factory Reset works for me.
I am on Miglobe-Rom Miui10 8.6.28.
Minimal ADB is enough.
Or use this from Attachment.
Unpack with Win.zip and copy Twrp in this Folder.
Conect the Phone with your Pc ,boot into Bootloader and click "cmd-here.exe"
Use this Command
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.2.1-3-whyred.img

If you have made sure that you have all the drivers installed and still have not solved, you need to use an Intel-based PC / notebook and use a usb 2.0.
