gapps problem (CM7.2.) - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

Hi.
Sorry, my english isn't very good, beacuse I'm Hungarian.
So I want to update my Gio to CM7.2 (CyanogenMod 7.2-GIO-KANG).
I write how I did it step by step:
1, I installed CWM v5.0.2.7 ext4+rfs, and reboot.
2, I made a full backup in CWM.
3, I installed CM7.2 in recovery and I did a wipe/factory reset, then I installed gapps.
4, Reboot the phone.
5, The rom works perfectly, but I can't find anywhere the market, gmail, maps.
6, I tried to add my google account, but it said "Setup could not finish. Unable to open connection to server" The wifi is turned on, so I don't understand why did it my phone.
Please help me. I trying this for two days.
Thank you in advance.

Do you have internal ext4 partition? If no then you need to flash ext4-formatter. And then you must use ext4 only cwm.
Not sure if this helps.

I haven't got ext4 partition. How can I do it?

flash ext4-formatter before flashing CM. If you used previously CM 7.1, then you already have ext4. Read the CWM and CM7.2 instructions carefully.

I used CM7.1 before I try the 7.2, but I don't flash ext4-formatter. CM7.1 do it itself?

It solved. I mount my data and system and voilá I have market
I'm so happy.

[Q] Rom Manager and CWM

Hi, I have my phone unlocked via htcdev. I installed CWM by alquez, but it doesn't detect it in ROM Manager. I have tried going into recovery from rom manager, then rebooting from cwm, still nothing works. Only rebbot to recovery works in rom manager. Any solutions?
The CWM from Alquez is unofficial not supported by rom manager dev i think. The same thing was with samsung galaxy ace , don't flash recovery from manager you can get brick...

1/ Download and put the CM7.2 nightly zip from Alquez on your SD card root.
2/ Go into CWM Recovery
3/ Wipe Data/Factory reset
4/ Wipe Dalvik
5/ Format System from Mounts
6/ Install Zip from SD and choose CM72 Nightly ZIP
7/ Install Zip from SD and choose CM7x GAPPS
8/ When done reboot to your clean CM7.2 install
So, for now, we can delete Rom Manager then?

okay, I just installed cm7.2, android market wasn't there. I installed an apk. it doesn't let me create a Google account, takes me to some exchange account. please help. and why does cm7 use adwlauncher? I thought it was something like sense quick help needed.

It's non sense ROM.
I didn't like it too, so I just flashed sense rom.
Anyway, you can install any launcher you like, and use it as default one.
About google account.
That ROM doesn't have anything to do with google's apps, so you'll have to install gapps.
Find it somewhere, latest version is from 28.8.2011 I think.
It's .zip file, just flash it through recovery.

I like non sense roms.Too bad WS is not officially supported by CM.
But maybe now, when most of us have the opportunity to install custom rom, we get full support.

Can anybody help with CWM7 ?
I've tried to load this onto my phone but I keep failing. The app does not load. I cannot access any recovery, albeit standard or CWM. Everytime I try from the the bootloader screen and enter recovery, The phone gives me a Black Screen with a Picture and a Red Triangle in the middle and nothing else happens. I then have to reboot the phone.
Am I doing something wrong or am I missing something.
Is there a step by step guide to help make this work for me.
I have searched for a couple of days now and I cannot find anything that for me.
My phone is S-ON and Bootloader Unlocked via HTC-Devs.
Any help from you experts out there will be appreciated, even if it's just pointing me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance.

[Q] How to update Gio stock 2.3.3 to CM9?

Hello forum-members!
I have a question I really want to ask: How can I update my Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660 from stock 2.3.3 to CyanogenMod 9.0.0?
With CM9, I mean the version for Gio, as found on this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414173
At the moment, my mobile is like this:
Firmware: stock 2.3.3
PDA: S5660XXKPS
PHONE: S5660XXKPA
CSC: S5660XENKP1
Rooted using the update.zip-methode, installed Titanium Backup
ClockWorkMod-based Recovery v5.0.2.6 installed (But I still have a problem with it, it says things like 'E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command' and 'E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log', no idea if I have to fix this or not...)
So, how can I update this stock 2.3.3 to CM9? I only have a lot of experience with jailbreaking, but not with flashing ROMS and installing special Android tools, so a bit of step-by-step guide.
If you think updating to CM7 is better for me, since that's a more complete ROM, please say it, which CM7 ROM, and how it can be done
I hope someone is able to help me, as I would really like to use a nice ROM on my Gio
You should use cm7.2, its stable and fast..

I installed CM9 beta 3 on my gio, after flashing the CWM-version phiexz posted here in this topic (http://www.mediafire.com/?3umwbz3gg6oo6c6). I did everything discribed in the topic of CM9 for Gio port.
Flash Special Clockworkod Recovery for CyanogenMod 9:
skip this step if you have special clockworkmod (CM7.1/CM7.2/GM9) installed on your phone
Download: px-CWM-v2.zip
Place it on root of your sdcard
reboot to recovery mode
install this cwm from recovery
I didn't have to do this first part, since I already had CWM installed on my Gio.
Flash Cyanogenmod 9:
Download and copy the latest CM9 ROM to SD Card
Reboot to Recovery Mode
Select Install zip from sd card
Select Choose zip from sd card
Select the new CM9 rom package
Select Yes - Install update
Wait till the Installation is finish
Now select Wipe data/factory reset
Confirm
Now reboot to phone.
Wait and enjoy CM9 on your Galaxy Gio
I did everything just as described here... AND I did not forget to select 'Wipe data/factory reset' as said in this short tutorial, so that's not the problem!

But after all this, it stucks on saying 'ANDROID'. If I turn off the phone, it automatically turns on again. I can still enter CWM Recovery, but if I click on 'restore backup' (because I made a backup of my stock ROM before flashing CM9), it says:
Code:
Checking MD5 sums...
Eresing boot before restore...
Restoring boot image...
Restoring system...
E:format_volume: format_rfs_device failed on /dev/block/stl12
Error while formatting /system!
My question now is:
Is there a way I can make CM9 work on my Gio (I prefer this one), restore my backup, or connect to Kies, so I can place a clean stock ROM on my Gio?
I hope someone can help me!

Note that cm9 is not in beta 3 but alpha status.
You can flash cm7, same instructions as cm9, much more stable.
Try installing a different version of CWM and restore
Or read tutorials how to use ODIN and flash stock rom

I was already planning to flash CM7 now, but there was only one thing I was still wondering about.
The Cyanogenmod 7 instructions topic says:
NOTE:
It's not automatically wipe your data. if you want to install fresh rom, you must wipe data before install it!
If you from stock / custom rom based on rfs filesystem, u must flash ext4-formatter.zip before flash CyanogenMod. link & instruction can fount on This Thread. otherwise you'll stuck on android logo because it cant mount rfs filesystem!
have problem after upgrade from earlier cyanogenMod? you should wipe your data!!

By the way if you used ext4 formatter zip you use an version of cwm wich has been removed back to construction to bugs, so you should use another one, in the same thread

[Q] Installing Arpeggiomod on new 5660m

Sorry if this is a n00b question that has been answered before but I have been reading a lot about rooting/flashing this phone and I am feeling very intimidated. There is a lot of info out there and almost all of it is different in the details.
I will be purchasing a 5660m tomorrow and want to install arpeggiomod and then unlock.
1. Do I have to root the phone before flashing with arpeggiomod? If so can I root with superoneclick?
2. Do I just follow the V0.9 instructions posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1263025 to install arpeggiomod? I flash the zip file using odin right? Do I need to restore factory defaults before flashing?
3. I need to unlock the phone since I want to use it with Rogers. Do I just use the bml5 unlock method?
Thanks a lot.
1. No. Arpeggiomod Rom comes with Root
2. You flash using a Recovery. Backup your Data. You do need to wipe factory defaults before flashing.
3. Yes you can use BML5 Method. Guide Here
Either click on:
EDIT 7 nov 2011: BML5 method guide
or
EDIT 31 aug 2011: Now Supersafe (BML5) method

Flash first then unlock. But if your phone does not say it's locked

Still a bit confused about this step.
So is the following process correct:
1. Format sd card from RFS to ext4 using the ext4 converter on this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1263025
2. No need to run the v0.9 Backup and Restore User Data Scripts since I will have no data on the phone.

4. Wipe factory defaults
5. Use the 0.9 ROM on this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1263025 and flash using the cwm recovery tool.

Welcome on the board, you'll start getting the hang of things in due time. You're researching a good deal, which is an excellent way to do things.
Let me correct some things from Peteragent5's reply though:
1. Flash the CWM linked from the ArpegGioMod first post with Odin. The one modified by Peteragent5.
The ext4 converter does not touch your MicroSD card at all. It formats the internal /data, /system and /cache partitions to ext4.
If you want an additional ext4 partition on your SD card (often referred to as /sd-ext) to use scripts such as Darktremor Apps2SD or S2E, the Phiexz kernel included with ArpegGioMod 0.9 supports those.
SIM-unlocking requires root to read the BML5 partition. Since ArpegGioMod is already rooted, you might as well do it after you've installed the ROM, this will save you from having to root only to wipe that ROM immediately afterwards. (Or do it from CWM, which is also rooted.)
2. Correct
You only need to wipe once in CWM, either before or after flashing the ROM. In the specific case of a new ArpegGioMod 0.9, CM7 or CM9 installation, the formatting of the user data partitions to ext4 wipes them at the same time. To be honest I don't really know where this whole "wipe twice" thing comes from nor what its based on.

Thanks a lot for the details.
I see that you have posted detailed instructions for the n00bs in your master arpeggiomod post. Should I follow these? It seems like it because what you wrote above complies with your instructions.
Either. I answered your questions more directly here and figured the first thread post could use some clearer instructions, which I did afterwards.
Complete noobie here. This thread saved my life LOL thanks Shado and Furious. I DID brick my phone, trying to Odin flash a ZIP file (smart one...), but got unbricked just as quickly... it wasnt like this in the PSP Homebrew and CFW days LOL
Just another question for the Droid Gurus: How do I get a2sd up and working on ArpegGio? It seems like a very useful and simple app but I'm having trouble finding specifics... I read somewhere you can only use upto 1gb for apps, not to mention I have Windows 7 so I don't know if I am able to format in ext4... Thanks in advance for anyone who points me in the right direction!!

Oh. It seems like you can just install DT's A2SD right away cause of the kernel right? So just download Dt's A2SD from his Facebook page or somewhere in XDA Forums if you find the latest... Then put in root of SDCard and install from Recovery
I just about asked "where's the thanks button" ... why did it take me so long to convert from Blackberry? I'll never miss BBM... XDA rules and can't wait to stay tuned for future progress

Hello all.
I've been lurking on the forums for over a week now, reading tons of stuff, and learning all I can about my new Android phone. I'm a "Windows guru" but new to the 'droid scene. I think I'm ready to flash my phone and really start delving into the custom goodness available to us.
I've read almost every post by Darkshado and Peteragent5 about the Gio S5660M, and would like to try out ArpeggioMod until a version of CM is out of development.
My big question is which CWM Recovery do I flash and how. Instructions say to use Peteragent5's modded CWM, but there are 4 versions in this thread. I have a rooted stock phone on the Solo network. Do I use the Odin version, or one of the other ones via Download/Recovery mode? I'm a little paranoid about bricking my phone.
Thank you in advance for any info provided. A huge thank you to Darkshadow and Peteragent5 for their ongoing work for the Canadian Gio!
Usually you're gonna have to start with the Odin version.
A more "unorthodox" method that should also work would involve flashing the recovery.img file directly to bml9 with the dd command on a rooted phone.
I did not include an assert line to check the model of phone reported in my updater scripts, so it shouldn't matter which version you flash. As long as that recovery supports etx4 properly. (Not all do, such as the older builds by Hyriand, which were configured for RFS only.)
In the case of Peteragent's ROMs, his scripts check for the presence of a 5660M and not just a 5660 from the build.prop included in the recovery ramdisk. Hence the need for the modified build prop compared to Phiexz's original builds which report as 5660.

Use the "My ROMS" ODIN version. It should be the same as this link http://www.mediafire.com/?uxzesrnfswxxwes but don't use this link forever because if the file gets updated you will be using a deprecated version.

Thank you. I have spent most of this day playing with flashing and formatting.
This is the file I used to get CWM installed. From there I used Darkshado's directions from Arpeggiomod. I found that if I run the re-odex script, several apps force close on boot (like the CPU clocker and samsung.singin(?) ) so as long as I don't run that, everything works great.
I then installed darktremor's a2sd after partitioning and formatting my sdcard. When I load dt's A2SDGUI it shows 24MB sd-ext (even though i formatted it to 1GB). When I load Titanium Backup it shows the 1GB /sd-ext but none of my apps got installed there. I'm not done playing with this part yet, lol.
I'm wandering how to remove ADW Launcher, since I prefer GO Launcher, but that's just a preference.

1. Install Root Explorer.
2. Go to /system/app
3. Mount filesystem as r/w (in the upper right corner)
4. Delete ADW Launcher (Make sure you still have TouchWizLauncher)
5. Reboot and test.

Would you mind clearing Dalvik cache and then running the re-odexing script? See if that still causes force closes?

[Q] Upgrade to CM7.2 problem

Hi there,
I am currently on CM7.1 and wanted to upgrade to 7.2. The CM forum said one can just flash 7.2 over 7.1 without wiping anything but for me that didn't work. After update I am missing everything which I had on my ext3 partition. I use S2E. My layout, background etc is all there just no apps/widgets. It seems like 7.2 does not recognize my ext3 partition.
Any idea how to solve this problem? Do I need to set up S2E after flashing again so that 7.2 "finds" everything on the ext3?

Flash the S2E script you used with Cm7.1 and it should all be back.
Hey thanks for the amazingly quick answer!
So just to clarify the steps:
1. Nandroid backup
2. Flash 7.2 without wiping anything.
3. Reboot system into 7.2 - all apps are gone, even gapps.
4. Install S2E apk
5. Set up S2E
6. Reboot
7. It should all be back?
By "flash the S2E script" you mean install the apk via a file manager, right? Not anything via recovery?
Sorry for all the questions, I am fairly new to all this

Unable to flash radio

Hi guys,
I have a wildfire with hboot-6.01.1002 S-off and radio 3.35.20.10.
I had the gps bug, so I tried all the ways to fix it but without success. So I tried to reflash radio and just trying to flash older versions I found out that the radio doesn't get flashed.
I tried laptop method too but with win8 is impossible for my wildfire to get recognized and all the tricks seen on internet or on this forum don't work.
Ooops I forgot to say that from RomManager I downgrade to cwm 2.x, then I reboot the phone, but in recovery I see again cwm 5.x, so everytime I install from there the 2.x version and I flash radio, but at system reboot I find 3.35.20.10 radio again.
Could you help me pls?
ps. sorry for my bad english.

You can try to use a temporary 2.x flashable cwm zip file and flash it after a cwm recovery reboot: I have cwm 6 installed and reflashing the radio in this way I usually fix GPS and WiFi problems (I have to do it once or twice every time after I install a new ROM).

Hi, could you explain me the procedure?
Where do I find a temporary cwm?
--- do you mean install a cwm 2.x in recovery mode? It doesn't work, I wrote it in the first post too.
mate, you don't have to flash a new radio to fix the GPS issue.
Here's what I do,
#Turn GPS on in your current ROM, and wait for a stable location fix,
#while GPS is still on, power off the phone.
#Now boot into recovery and flash your new ROM
#now after flashing and booting into your new ROM you'll be able to use GPS again.
You'll have to do this everytime you flash a new gingerbread ROM or above..
if your current ROM doesn't have working GPS, just flash Sense ROM, the GPS will work. then do as I said.
I always though flashing radio's are a little risky, as this is a risk free method, I think everyone should use this instead..
cheers ...
upon latesxt
Every time I try a sense rom at installing point I lose screen, just some colored strips, do you remember 80 cabinet game before loading? if yes ... those ones
But that's really strange that i'm not able to flash radio anyway.

I'm guessing you're referring to RemPuzzle ROM which has Aroma installer.
yea Aroma installer does that on cwm5.
only way to fix that is to revert to CWM4 permanent ( untill you decide to go back to a higher cwm version.)
anyway try another sense ROM, like DK's custom ROM or similar ..
cheers..
I was just reading about DK roms, it has to be installed using a temporary cwm.
Just a curiosity: all newer roms are cyano based?

Yes, most gingerbread and up roms are usually bases on CM.
About the temporary cwm. Just flash it as a normal zip and you'd get temporary cwm2.5 , flash DK with that, after reboot you'll be back on your current cwm version.

Just a thing, I flash a sense rom, after that I wait gps fix and then I install cyano rom. But without wipe or format?
I ask that cause before I use Mtd partition procedure to have more free space, and without any format and wipe I can't do that.

No no... just wipe everything. And also the Dalvik cache. Then install the new ROM. After rebooting to your new ROM GPS would work.

Ehm .. dkmod roms failed to install cause "installation aborted", 4.6.2 and 4.7.
I tried joyOs but gps doesn't start. With Rempuzzle I have screen problems.
It seems I have to forget gps.
Flashing a radio requires at least 30mb on cache, so make sure you aren't using a custom mtd setup.
If its not the case, try flashing a 2.x permanent recovery and then flash the radio.

you got installation aborted msg with CWM 2?
Mate, then try CM6. its a froyo ROM. and can be flashed with any CWM version. and as I remember GPS works without any issues. get it from http://get.cm/?device=buzz
then try again my steps.
hope it'll work. Good luck
cheers..
Thanks, cyano6 works.

are you using custom mtd partitions?
if yes, there is an additional zip file to flash after flashing a new ROM.
I tried with higher mtd values but nothing, without mtd no problem, but without mtd this phone is useless for me.

If you have followed all the steps.correctly for custom mtd partitioning, it should work.
If it still fails, try link2sd, its an app. It moves apps to a separate partion in SDcard and saves internal storage.
But you have to partion your SDcard for that.
I suggest you should recheck if you followed all the steps correctly for mtd partioning. And remember to flash the bravo-boot.zip ( I don't remember the exact name) after flashing a ROM..

I'm sure I followed all the steps, but I'm gonna try again.
Further jellybread is now on (without mtd) but without gapps too and they're integrated in the rom.
Android is trying to make me crazy
