Hi Guys,
about 10 times a day or so, I hear my phone vibrate (phone is on vibrate at work).
When I unlock the screen, I have a "complete action using pop-up" with dropbox, gmail and skype as the options.
Another user did some investigation by clicking on gmail to see what exactly it's sending and it looks to be an error report to google.
Anyone else experienced this?
i've experienced this too, dont know the cause though
BUMP.
Anyone else getting this at all?
Running AOKP Build 26 4.0.3 and Franco Kernel.
Cheers
Yeah its data logging. Caused by holding both volume and power I think it is. You can turn it off in aokp in general UI settings

I got it too..I'm pretty sure it is not generated by holding both volume keys and power.
It appears random. What is that? It's a sort of issue log.
Any way to desactivate it?
I have the same issue running 4.0.4. I believe a program keeps automatically taken screen shots of my GN
This is happening to me... any solution?
Another victim.
Another one here.
I'm on Stock 4.0.4 and Franco's Kernel.
If I stop to think, I guess this started to happen since I started using MoDaCo leaked 4.0.4 that comes with Franco's Kernel.
So I guess it might be Kernel or 4.0.4 fault.
The bad thing is that the supposed error log have nothing interesting.
definitely 4.0.4... I'm running stock.
it happens if u press the volume button in between Up and Down (in the middle) and power at the same time for a second or so
try and u will see the report appearing after a minute or so
solution: when u want to unlock ur phone, just press the power button
Its ICS's bug mailer and is, to be honest, flawed. Its trying to send a bug report to Google. Use root explorer, mount as r/w and rename bugmailer.sh to bugmailer.sh.old, save and reboot. Should stop it hapenning anymore. Its more of an annoyance then anything useful IMO. I used to get 5-6 a day but never saw or come across any crashes or problems. Rename and enjoy the phone

never happened to me..also it doesn't send reports to anyone, because u have to put the email address..its a developer feature to show u a lot of debug information
are u sure u are not pressing both volume (in the middle) and power when waking up the phone? thats the cause

Granted, you don't have to send it to Google, but my point stands. It flares up, on occasions, all too often. If anyone has no desire to read it, disable it. It serves no purpose unless you actively wish to send it to anyone for any reason.

I think that it might be due to the case!
I'll try killyouridols script renaming approach now.

have i got the volume bug if my phone hangs and then reboots every time i touch volume up or down when the screen is on? Samsung insist that its the same thing and i need to wait for the update but i can't see anyone else describing that the problem causes a reboot, and my volume has never actually turned down on it's own as far as i can tell.
That sounds different altogether.

Thats what i suspect. Its just a pain to have been waiting for 4 days for something that probably wont fix anything and then to have to start the whole thing over again with samsung. O well

I'll give it a go. Im guessing they wont do a doorstep swap like i'd get from t mobile though. Hopefully i wont be without it for long. In our short time together i've grown quite attached to this phone (and almost got used to not touching the volume button)
Couple of questions (you may have already done these -apologies if you have)
Have you tried a factory reset? If not, maybe worth trying it, could be an app doing wierd things.
Also, try running a logcat trace when replicating the issue - see if it helps point in the direction of the issue.
Does the phone still crash when you're in the bootloader? (This _may_ help to rule out application related issues)
I have tried a factory reset. Weird thing is that im pretty sure that it didnt do it for the first few hours that i was playing with it. It was just at the point that i had it all set up that i first noticed it so assumed it was a rouge app and did a factory reset. When it rebooted i signed in and hit volume and it crashed so its definately not an app.
I almost believed that it was the normal volume bug because if i go somewhere more remote in the house, away from all electrical stuff, i can hammer at the buttons for a while before it crashes so maybe ive just got a more extreme version of the bug. Just noone else seems to have anything close. Volume control works fine in a call and when the screen is off but i havent tried in bootloader yet. I'll give it a go
Hey everyone, I've been having a little bug that I noticed after I received the 4.0.4 update. I don't know what I exactly do to cause this but my nexus takes random screenshots whenever I press my power button to unlock my phone. I have the pattern lock that I use and when I hit power it randomly vibrates and when I go check my gallery it shows that I just took a screenshot. At times, when my battery is low it seems to randomly vibrate again and take a screen shot and gives me the prompt screen for which app I'd like to use to complete the action... No, I don't press the volume down key when this happens and no I don't have any screenshot apps. I'm stock, non rooted... Anyone else have this issue?

I'm having doubts that it would be that...sometimes it does it even when I don't touch the power off key..
I have this same problem. I decided to find out what was going on when it asks what app to use, so I selected google drive. It uploaded the screenshot and a bug report to google drive. The bug report is a 3mb text file. I can't upload it here.

Do any of you guys run a rom that gives the ability to use the volume rocker to take screenshots? Have you tried reflashing your roms since you updated?

I am about to try flashing the 4.0.4 update again, as I just downloaded the zip of it.
Screenshots are Volume Down + Power. Bug Reports with screenshots are Both Volume Keys + Power. Do you have a case on? I've seen many people having these issues that were due to a tight fitting case.
Case
I do have a case on, but I know that's not the issue, as the power button is not covered, and this often occurs without me being anywhere near the power button. It can happen in the middle of typing out a text message. A prompt appears asking what application I'd like to complete this action with, and if I check the gallery later, there will be a new screenshot of my messaging app.
Slightly tangential - but is there any ROM or setting that will allow you to use a softkey to take screenshots? Or do I need to just search out an app that'll do so?
I find it really awkward (at least with my case on) to take screenshots and wouldn't mind the ability to do it with a softkey instead.

I have the exact same problem! No clue what's causing this. I'm on AOKP M5 on rooted Galaxy Nexus. I can't find any setting to disable bug report creation, nor can I find anything about bug reports in the settings at all. I really hope someone can figure out what's causing these spontaneous bug reports (plus screenshots) to be generated.
Same issue
I just received my 4.0.4 update on Galaxy Nexus, and I am having the same issue. It randomly takes a snapshot of the lock screen and generates a bug report. Have they added some new hardkey combination that is too easy to trigger? I do have a case on, but I have always had it on, way before the update.
This is a manual bug report triggered by pressing both volume keys and the power button at the same time. It will vibrate once when you do it and then it takes a good minute or two for it to compile the report. The phone will then vibrate 3 times quickly when the report is ready, but only if the phone is awake and unlocked. So, for example, if you hit the power button to check the time and happen to press all three buttons or your TPU case (just an example) is holding down your volume buttons, then it will trigger then. You won't actually see the results until the next time you unlock the device. They are addressed to your default email address unless your ROM developer adds an email to them. Obviously being stock this would not be the case.
If you want to get rid of this feature, go to /system/bin and rename bugmailer.sh to bugmailer.sh.bak or delete it. Then reboot and no more bugmailer.

Also of note for those having the issue on the 4.0.4 update, disabling USB debugging should now also disable the bugmailer.

No offence to you. Seriously.
was annoyed with this issue, google searched it , opened a lot of tabs, found many posts never had answers,
I agree it was copy paste, sorry for not mentioning the source.
I edited them and linked it to your post on rootzwiki,
I was in a hurry then and rushed up and pasted on the threads where there was no proper answers.

See my full explanation here http://rootzwiki.com/index.php?/topic/18671-Disable-bug-report-error-messaging?#entry488123 (last post on the page). Simple answer, something is pressing all three buttons at once, be it a case or whatever. Either disable usb debugging to turn it off or see my link for instructions to disable just the bugmailer.

I just receive random bug reports when using the phone. Nothing crashes. I just receive pop up with the bugreport.
what rom what kernel .......
Everything is running the standard 4.0.4 yakju. I wiped and cleared my phone yesterday.
However the Bug Report is still appearing.
There are various 'beautiful widgets' exceptions, do you believe that it could be causing it.
Did you manage to look at the attached Zip bug report.
Like where it pops up with an email addressed to yourself? That's Bugmailer. It is triggered by pressing both volume keys and power at the same time. Some custom ROMs allow you to disable it or have it disabled by default.
Really. I don't know how I'm pushing all the buttons. But you are correct it pops up with an email addressed to myself.
Anyway to disable it on the standard rom?

If you're rooted I think you can go into system/bin and rename bugmailer.sh to bugmailer.bak. If you're not rooted I'm not sure that you can. Do you have a case? Many people get it often because they have a tight case that presses the buttons.
Alright, so my girlfriend's Samsung Galaxy S II started to go through these weird partial reboots several weeks ago (maybe even months). The phone would randomly go black, play the stupid shutdown/startup (dont remember which) jingle...then just simply be at the lock screen with a crossed out circle where the signal bars would be (for just a couple of seconds). When this happened, I used to just tell her to shutdown the phone, take out the battery, and let it sit for about 30 seconds, then put everything back together and start it back up. This seemed to work, which made me think it might have just been a software or at worst a memory issue of some kind.
This issue was always intermittent, but now, no matter what I do, it just keeps looping this "restarting" problem. I can't access any internal memory space from my computer because in the time it takes to connect, it just "reboots" again. I made a logcat of the phone up until the "reboot", and in doing so noticed that when I would browse the phone via adb shell, I saw no mount for the sd card...which then lead me to believe maybe it was an issue with that. I checked the sd card for corruption (and prior to even using it, checked that all blocks were read/writable (legit)), but that led nowhere.
Anyways, not having any idea where to go next, nor where to begin or what to look for in the 5000+ lined logcat, I turn to xda with hopes of getting some sort of help. Thanks in advance for any I get!
EDIT: Oops, some other important notes I didn't mention (other than in title); this is running stock firmware, only OTA. I tried once to upgrade her to ICS via Kies, but the upgrade would never complete. She also refused to let me root her phone...so unless there is a stock recovery mode, her phone has none...
bump, as its been a week and no responses. If anyone has any ideas or can figure out whats wrong from the logcat, please help.
Almost 3 weeks...no answer...isn't there at least 1 person who has an idea or can deduce one from the logcat? Pretty soon I'm gonna have to tell her to give up and get it "fixed" (ie, swapped for a refurb with most likely all her data lost)...

Looking at the logcat if it is accurate the problem is overheating and it is shutting itself down. That's why it keeps rebooting from I read but I could be wrong. Also looks like it has wakelock issues. Lot of wakelock errors in logcat. Some app or apps are causing the wakelock issue find them and remove them that might solve the problem.

Idk how to read logcats but another idea could be you have the sticky power button issue. I think if it was overheating u would feel it and mention it in the op.

Thats what I thought, because it seemed to get exceptionally hot before "rebooting"...at first...then I was noticing it "rebooting" when clearly cold. If it is indeed overheating like I had thought in the very beginning, is there anything I can do about it? What does it use for heat conductivity and displacement? And for that matter, I would think if it was overheating though, it would actually reboot, not the half-ass semi-reboot its been doing...
And what is wakelock exactly that it would cause an issue? Only apps I see using it are WootWatcher, KeyguardViewMediator and PowerManagerService.

I would use odin...but the phone doesn't stay on long enough to do much of anything before "rebooting". Also, she is already using stock firmware + OTA updates. And her contacts are not what I am worried about, its her photos and such. This is the very reason why I hate internal memory for phones...
And I'm pretty sure its not a sticky power button, I had seen that being a common issue when researching before posting. And again, if I have not been clear, its not exactly "rebooting", just semi-rebooting; phone starts up, crap starts running, a min or 2 later, phone acts like its restarting (plays sound and all), then just comes back to the lock screen immediately...I can't really describe it much more than that.
And no, I'm not familiar with "download mode"

Ya, like I said in the reply above this, I don't think its the sticky power button problem...but I could always be wrong. I only didn't mention over heating because I felt I did a good job of ruling it out.

I wish I could help you further but i can say one thing, the rebooting that your describing is called a "hot reboot". I know what ur talking about and others will too if u use that term. Good luck.

Hello,
Ever since the update to 4.3, the home button is absolutely annoying. Everytime I need to get back to the home screen, it opens the recent tabs list. Anyone who knows what I am talking about knows how extremely frustrating this is. So, is there a fix?
Sounds like it may be sticking. That's what its supposed to do when you long press home.

Definitely not sticking. It seems once upgraded to 4.3, it started happening. I was reading a lot of people were having the same issue. But they were old posts, so I wasnt able to find a resolution. Its really annoying actually as it slows things down quite a bit, like a major time stopper.
Never had that happen for me. Have you disabled double press for svoice? If you flash an older rom does it fix it?

Yes I have disabled that. No, I am completely stock refreshed from samsung after sending in to fix cracked screen.
Did you get the same one back, or a refurb? Id contact them either way if they caused the problem.
Or try reflashing your firmware.
