Alright sorry to post this ridiculously noob question to ask, but whats the current word on an ICS port for the Epic. In no way am I asking for an eta, and I'm not trying to rush any devs, I'm just purely asking because i haven't seen much through searching the inter-webs and the only thread on it here got closed due to some arguments.

The inter-webz & general thread aren't the place to look.
Check out the development section for the E4GT. There has been a port of the latest SGSII international ICS but we do not have a working kernel. Dev's are working on it and there is no ETA.
There are a couple of reports of different devs working on ICS but nothing usable yet. We don't even have cm7 do to a mix of arrogance, naivety, and politics.
However, my gut feeling says we are included as part of the official launch of CM9.

not quite true. We have a very well working cm7 kang. Only thing missing from it is GPS and a few minor bugs. It even has 911 calling patch. Just not on xda because of as you said politics. Its up on another big dev board though.

I've tried the kang and I liked it but it was too unstable to be my daily driver. I should say we don't have official CM7 but hopefully the Android community will band to together and give us CM junkies our sweet, sweet fix.
Have you tried alpha 4 that was released today?

Just saw it got posted, i may try it when I have a couple days to really test it.
Sorry if this has been covered. But I can't seem to find a straight answer.
I know the ATT skyrocket has a leak, and the 9100 has an official ICS. Has Samsung come out and said publicly that we'd eventually see an official ICS build? I know Cyanogenmod 9 will eventually be supported, but I was just wondering what kind of timeline we're looking at.
I recently ordered a T989 (in the mail) and I'm coming from a mytouch 4G running ICS pretty stable.
Again, sorry if this was answered before... I'm just new to the T989 forums.
Thanks!
Lots if bugs as well on the mt4g. If you didn't see it we don't have it. No one knows when well see a stable ics rom. Please search before you ask.

I appreciate the info. I did a search, just nothing about the "official" release seemed to pop up. Lots of info about the ATT skyrocket and 9100... not so much about the T989.
Thanks anyways

I'm sure with the 989 having a different processor, it has a different set of challenges for the developers. But there are some awesome developers here, who have made incredible progress, especially considering they don't even have an official 989 rom to work with. I have tried most of the roms currently out, and I would recommend the Vanillarocket... seems to be the most stable for me.

...maybe i am just a silly newb, but for as open source as android is suppose to be, this fragmentation doesnt make any sense.
AOSP should be all it takes, but the manufactures hold things like kernels over our heads, wont release the updates until they crapify the release with there version of a "OMGROZORS" launcher.

Agreed, but more than that it's the carriers who make things so difficult to get updates pushed out. They'd rather make you upgrade to a newer device to get the newest OS and features, so holding the updates hostage makes sense to them

At the IO google said that they would release JB developer tools for JB. So will we have the full potential of 4.1 JB?
I ask this because JB probably won't be released (offically) for our phone.
PS: do you think the performance boosts of JB will have an significant effect on our phone? It seemed to on the nexus.
Probably not. We don't have kernel source for ICS as it is, even though our phone is slated to get it, but I wouldn't count on it so getting JB to work on our phone is highly unlikely.

I'm 76% sure we will get ICS. They have it for the S and they said they would release it at the end of August.
You must consider that JB is just an updated ICS. So we don't need an offical JB to have it running 100%. And Google will have a dev tool out that may help us. Lastly they have a dump floating around. Chances are that we can use that to help us build a 100% working ASOP JB build. But this all depends on when or if we get ICS.
Can a dev jump in and let me know of my logic is correct

And you believe everything HTC and Verizon tells you...? that Dev tool is worthless if it doesn't include specific Dinc 2 files that goes once again back to kernel source. That dump isn't as useful to us as you think otherwise we would have fully working ICS on our phones from ICS dumps. Trust me, if it were as simple as you believe it is, our devs would have done it already. The situation with JB is pretty much the same as ICS if not worse since there is also the issue of resizing XHDPI JB to WVGA because there are no JB phones with WVGA resolution. Don't quote me on that last part, but I'm sure a dev can correct me or explain it better.

Nexus S will receive the update and it is a single core WVGA phone. So, I'll be looking closely on feedback from Nexus S users. That should give us an idea of the performance gains that we can theoretically expect, if any, over ICS. And there is no need to be overly cynical about HTC and their promise of giving us ICS. They said they will by August end and so just wait for it. Regardless of what may have happened in the past, you will just burden your mind with needless thoughts...

They said to be determined by the end of August which is a big difference. And honestly at this point I don't really care if we get official ICS anymore I'm pretty content with the work that our devs have done so far without it, if official ICS is so important to some of these users they might as well have just stayed stock and waited for an OTA. I don't mean to take this out on you personally, but these threads about JB and "perfect and bugless" ICS roms have gotten ridiculously out of hand. Not to mention the amount of user that lack to read the threads let alone the OP when it comes to figuring out what bugs exist. Its been clarified by reps at both HTC and VZW that what they meant was that the date is to be decided but that we will have it by the end of August. Take that for what you will, as I don't believe there has been anything official that clarifies this. I am pretty confident that we will get it and can only hope that we will get kernel source soon after.
Back to the OP's question, I highly doubt that we will have a 100% working JB rom anytime soon considering we still have issues on ALL of our ICS roms. Once we have official ICS our awesome dev's will probably be able to get JB working well pretty quickly.

HTC has to release kernel source regardless because of the Chinese OTA they released. It might be as late as October, but they have to release it regardless or else they'd be in violation of some law that has an acronym I can't remember.

OTA ICS will (should) help remove many of the small bugs we have with Camera etc... And once we get a hand on our kernel source, I believe devs will be knee deep in Jellybean goodness... The main reason why I am looking forward for the OTA is for the kernel source... Hell no I am going to go stock.. Once the kernel is up, I am gonna go with Nits' Sense 4 ROM!
The To be determined thing is crappy of them... They say on their FB page that the "Release Date" is the thing to be determined, NOT whether it gets ICS or not... which makes sense given it is in the table of release dates and given they previously confirmed to give it ICS... anyway, time will tell... No breaking my head on this...

Yeah, I should try that ROM too, sometime... I was wondering how functional it is... The Sense 4 ROM has some issues with GPS too (if you toggle it, it will not come back on). But I don't like how Sense 3.6 is.
Even if we don't get an OTA HTC still has to release source because of the Chinese and Inc S ICS OTA. That's why I don't understand why some of the other users are so anxious for an official OTA, even with these other OTAs flash timing appears to still have not been fixed, whatever that is I haven't had it happen personally (knock on wood). We all need to relax and just wait for source to be posted and let the devs do their thing.
On a different topic, anyone else thing the default sig on the XDA app is kind of redundant?

In my experience it was bugless (IC 3.6) although it was laggy. It was laggy in the wrong places (homescreen, and scrolling through certain apps) and smooth in the wrong places (app drawer, GP, settings).

I dont get what ROMS people are looking for. You have touchwiz, and there is only so much that can be done with that, and you have aosp...so much can be done with that. ROMS can only be modified so much and still be fuctional. If your comparing it to the epic, or the evo or something, your probably taking about themes. I noticed a lot of the same crap, it just looked different and "dev-c" called it a rom, but it was the same thing 'dev-b" did, that was the same thing "dev-a" did, each one just looked different, or had different apps added or removed.

Well, if you're you're referring to AOSP, then that's correct, because that's what it is. AOSP is stock, barebone google android; no touchwiz, sense, motoblur, etc; those features are tied into the framework of that rom.

Unless it gets pushed back like everything else Sprint has done, this phone should get a JB update most likely in August. Once it's updated and source is released I think you will see a lot more ROMS. I think they might be getting a little bored with ICS (even though there inst much difference between the two)
I should of been more specific. Lol I was talking about my rom experience from the SG2. I have yet to try out roms on the SG3.

I really don't consider myself a dev. Its one of those roms that everybody is saying is not "dev ". I actually agree, but some people still enjoy. But thanks though. But I think we still have some great all around devs in both sections. I'm sure more will come, but I'm definitely happy with what we have right now.

Not to point out the obvious but, it seems like you are the only one taking offense and creating a "fire storm". It didn't read to me like he was putting anyone down but, asking an honest question. The devs we have are great. Wouldn't trade them for anything. We are lacking in quantity though. Rather have quality than quantity so I'm perfectly ok with that. I guess I'm just confused by your comments though because I was looking for the trolls and flames and didn't see anyone taking offense to his question. Either way we are all entitled to our own opinions. I agree with both of you but, not your particular attitude. *shrug*
I just got a sgs2.. and well the aosp game is kinda ridiculous on this device... props to the devs who's provided the options they were able to on this device but where are the rest of the roms at?

EDIT
JUST SO EVERYONE KNOWS I MEANT NO DISRESPECT AT ALL.. I EVEN CREDITED THE DEVS WGO BROUGHT SOME GREAT ROMS TO THIS DEVICE.. I just want people to know I'm here to bring more to the table.. I'm guessing there is a major hurdle to overcome to bring aosp to this device since I'm not seeing a lot of it.. but I'm up for the task.. and I'll simply let my work speak for itself..
If you have an issue bring it to my attention but please dont harass me for stating that I wanna contribute to this device.. I don't want a bad rep at all and I hope you all will enjoy the work I produce
Only complaint on AOSP roms is that data speeds don't seem to be up to par compared to stock Touchwiz. Hopefully once Samsung releases the latest ICS source things get better since FI03 fixed the slow 4g speeds that haunted previous ICS builds.

3g speeds are the same on aosp and touchwiz. Its 4g that's different. I would suggest sbrissens build.

Everyones different though, just for me I tried them all (ran AOSP roms for the last 3-4 months), 3g seems a lot better on Twizz especially at work where it's a very low signal area. And 4g is no contest between the two.
So since my post mysteriously vanished... I'll sum it up for those that missed it.
Our devs are working hard to get us official cm status, we have many aosp options to choose from already, we have many more roms coming with all the work chris41g is putting into development for our device.

I dont release half of my roms because I focus more on one but show me a sprint device with more recent aosp than us besides the flagships that are basically included in aosp to begin with. think sprint will let you exchange your device for one with a community you can respect for a few months til you're ready. Maybe including some aosp options will provide somewhat a better understanding of ur purpose for this thread.
AutoBotNot! Not Even Cybertronian or Intergalactic in scope!

Vanilla Android is okay, but I far prefer Cyanogenmod and the variants based off it.

I deleted your post due to it being very rude and flaming another member. It was reported and it was removed. I will continue to do this if I see fit. On another note if you are producing or friends are producing roms then I'd suggest you let you works speak for themselves and not sit here and continue to act the way I have seen in this thread.
With that I will be locking this thread and ask that another like it not be made again
Thank you papa smurf.. no pun intended

Evo 4g, evo3d, epic 4g ect ect...
I respect you as a fellow dev. I'm actually using your ROM right now.. I'm a hardcore aosp guy and I was just expecting a device with a lot more options coming from the last two outdated phones I was on..
I was expecting to see some kind of positive feedback to see how interested people were in seeing more aosp not people trippin the EFF out.. I have a feeling that this is gonna be like the og evo threads all over again.. everyone's on such a defensive stand point!

I want to apologize for my first post earlier, I just woke up after passing out watching a movie and I took this thread as an insult to our developers.
Yes, I did go a little overboard with what I said. I know that this does not change what I said. I hope to see what you can bring to the table.

I didn't even see what you said but no harm no foul.. I didn't mean to insult anyone I even made sure to throw them some kudos I just had a feeling either aosp wasn't hot on this device or that it was hard AF to bring over

You should see if you can work alongside sbrissen. JB aosp/cm10/aokp/PA are all pretty stable just a few kinks here and there sbrissen has done a FANTASTIC JOB ON JB! Just throwing some ideas your way

I second that
Sbrissen has produced some of the memorable stuff during last year and a halk for various devices
I'm not sure what you mean by not enough AOSP roms. Every major one has been released for our device and theyre all pretty stable.
